I have never make comments about others hotels we have stayed before, but this hotel is the worse hotel, Just the workers are very nices and the beaches. Washroom flooded, plug with excrement, no water, able to get Clean beach towells after 2 days. The food was the same for lunch and dinner every single day. some over cook, others almost raw, flies where complement to our food. Melia Las Dunas: Our room was excellent
The hotel, grounds, staff were all exceptional but the dining experience has certainly gone down from our previous visit 3 years ago when it was excellent. If you want return customers I suggest you look at reviewing your meal plan. I was not feeling well and my husband could not take anything up to my room as dishes could not be taken from the snack bar or dining room.. My husband asked if we could see someone medically and was told I could take a double decker bus to a medical clinic, I was co[... read more]nfined to my room with bowel issues and could not leave. I think that the resort should have someone that they can call on.

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: Beautiful resort
This a is great resort. This was our ninth trip to Cuba and by far the best. Great staff, grounds, beach, pools, and entertainment. The only challenge we had was the a la carte food variety. The bus ride was a little long 90 plus minutes but once there you see why it is worth it.It was very quiet at this resort and had no issues with night noise. We were in building 4 which is pretty much central with easy access to everything

Grand Memories Santa Maria: Great stay
Enjoyed my recent stay at Grand Memories at Cayo Santa Maria. Incredible beach. It is literally breathtaking. Our maid was fantastic and provided top notch service. The restaurant, front desk, bar staff and groundspeople were all very helpful and courteous. The buffet was a little repetitive but very delicious. The evening shows were delightful. There was a nice selection of a la cartè restaurants to choose from as well as a good variety of excursions to enjoy. We had a bright, clean room with [... read more]a great view of the ocean. Grand Memories Santa Maria: Beautiful Beach
The resort was so-so. The rooms were clean. The bathrooms outside of our hotel room were rather dirty. Not all toilets worked. Very friendly staff. We had a pair of shorts and a backpack stolen off our balcony. We were on the bottom floor but it still would have been a workout to get the stuff. Make sure you take your stuff in at night. Hugh buffet. Same thing mostly everyday but lots to choose from. The beach was the nicest I have ever seen.

Roc Lagunas del Mar: Amazing Resort
This is a very nice resort. All staff was very friendly. We were close to everything. There was enough areas to sit where you didn't have to look for seats. You didn't have to wait long for drinks as there were many bars you could go to get a drink. The beach was the only disappointing thing about the hotel. Lots of seaweed and rocks. There was just a small area where it was nice but then not much shade there. But there were 3 bars on the beach and waiters came to serve so that was good. Roc Lagunas del Mar: Great Resort
This is the third resort i have been in Santa Maria and the Warwick is one of the best. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The other resorts we felt like we were bothering them if we asked for something. The food wasn't bad either considering it's Cuba. They didn't run out of things like most resorts do. They had mojitos for the whole 11 nights were were there lol The only downside is the beach. The beach is very rocky and only a small spot where the sand is smooth to go into the ocean bu[... read more]t then the palapas were broken so not too much shade. But there were three bars at the beach and all of them made food on a grill so that was a plus.
I would say that for sure we will be going to this resort again.

Sanctuary at Grand Memories Santa Maria: Just the right resort for a restful holiday
My husband and I felt we needed one more trip to Cuba before the country becomes as popular with Americans as Canadians. This resort did not disappoint. It has the best beach we've been to in Cuba and really does feel like a sanctuary - peaceful, uncrowded, with rooms very close to the beach and the pool. There are several 'minor' issues that need to be addressed, for example, very poor wifi service, public washrooms in poor condition, and unclear/questionable role played by butlers. But ove[... read more]rall we enjoyed our stay and would gladly return.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Enjoyable Resort
Lovely rooms with flat screen T.V. frig, coffee pot, safe, iron and ironing board. Good food in buffet restaurant and at 24 hour snack bar. Delicious specialty coffees at the coffee bar. Staff friendly all over the resort. Beds and pillows are rather hard but we took our own pillows so no problems. The shows are always entertaining and the disco is great. You can dance until 2a.m. Lobby bar is nice place to hang out and chat to other guests. There are 2 sides to hotel, one side having the quiet [... read more]pool and the other side is where all the activities are going on. That side can be noisy if you have a room over-looking the pool. Overall we had a lovely 2 weeks vacation. We flew with Cubana who gave good service, on time both ways. They served a delicious bagel with ham and cheese, juice and coffee. Roomy seats on plane but no movies. It didn't bother us as time went by quickly. We booked with Hola Sun and had no problems what so ever.

Melia Buenavista: Wonderful resort
We adored the resort: beautiful location, beaches, lovely landscaping with a variety of flowering tropical plants and palms, beautifully designed spacious apartments – very clean, well maintained, we had a gorgeous view to the ocean, lovely balcony, comfortable king size bed, exotic big outdoor shower, Jacuzzi bathtub. Reliable fast internet, no limit, included at no extra fee (at the lobby). Lovely live music: piano at the bar in the evenings, jazz at the pool, guitar at breakfast, violin or [... read more]clarinet at Sunset beach at 5:30, different live entertainment every night: excellent traditional Cuban music band, water ballet, etc. We enjoyed observing many different kinds of birds and fish. The food was good, even very, very good on several occasions. Courteous, friendly, professional staff, excellent service.
Just one serious issue: The resort (otherwise pretty much spotless) must adopt and respect a strict policy about the disposal of compact fluorescent lamp (CFL). We saw such light bulb (not broken) thrown under the vegetation next to rooms 1021/1022. All members of the staff must be made aware of the importance of proper disposal of these light bulbs, and of the harm that the mercury content can do to human health, in addition to contributing to water pollution.

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing Vacation!!!
The Melia Las Dunas was a great hotel with a spectacular beach. The food was consistently good and the service was top notch. My family has vacationed at Club Meds in the past and this hotel in Cuba was comparatively as good if you filter in the cost which would have been one third the price of a Club med. Would definitely go back and book with Susan Snider, Trip Central

Roc Lagunas del Mar: "Warwick DISAPPOINTINGâ€
My wife and I travelled to the Warwick in cayo Santa Maria Feb 12 - 26 2017 I had read the reviews and thought may be some people were exaggerating but no I can tell you now that they were probably holding back I will tell you from beginning to end
We left early Sunday morning on a SunWing flight it left on time everyone was excited the flight was quick arrived at the Santa Clara Airport passed through Customs and we were on our way to the Warwick by bus for our 2 hour + ride the bus had no to[... read more]ilets on board so we had to make a stop along the way no problem we are not in a hurry we got to our hotel after dropping off other passengers, proceeded to our lobby reception for our check in fairly quick procedure we got a nice room on the 3 floor partial seaview which we had not paid for I said thanks and tipped her a ten she quickly called on the "maletero" bell boy to bring our luggage to our rooms we are now on our way to Bungalow # 1 room 143 average room tipped the bellboy off he went we looked at the map of the resort and started to venture we went to visit the beach which is one of the main reasons for coming to Cuba and the hospitality of the people, the first surprise was the ROCKS!!! rocks everywhere, very difficult to walk along the beach we did finally find a patch of sand about 40 yards with 6 umbrellas. Went for dinner at the buffet everything fine so far get up the next day go for breakfast and we found attitude which was strange I hadn't experienced it till now but I asked the staff member if everything was alright they nodded fine and they went to get coffee for us and orange juice "tang" no worries add the bubbly and make a mimosa and keep going, we finished our "omelettes" breakfast which was always good and walked around got more familiar with surroundings went for lunch at the 24 snack bar and again more attitude from servers actually "the worst" of all of the restaurants was this one it looked like we were disturbing them no worries I said let's move on still tipped (did I mention I'm in the hospitality industry for over 30 years so I tip regardless) moving along we went to the lobby to await for our relatives coming in from Havana and Varadero we greeted them and arranged for a room next door to us which was a plus we got them settled in and we treated them to a lobster dinner 100 CUC in total for 4 of us at an "all inclusive" resort no problem great experience the 25 CUC per person is standard in all of Cuba I charged it to the room and off we went 9:30 pm the night is young we were heading towards the lobby and that's when disaster happened it was quite dark very difficult to see my wife missed step between the walkway and the grass and felled down twisting her foot.Next day we went to the international clinic and found out that she had a hairline fracture on her right foot they put a cast on her foot "Thank you" International clinic we tried to arrange a wheelchair and crutches but none were available at the time. We payed 101 CUC for the visit and went back to the resort another 10 CUC by taxi, we went to reception to try and resolve our problem with the wheelchair they gave us one but with a broken wheel that's when I lost it and said to them that this was unacceptable that a 4+ star resort did not have an adequate wheelchair and her response was they did have one but it was in use you see someone else had fallen not in the same spot mind you but nevertheless fallen, uneven walkways, rocky beaches and very poorly lit resort are all common denominators she told me to talk to my sunwing rep (ANOTHER BEAUTY) they said that they didn't have one and asked me why I didn't rent one from the clinic I was visibly upset and asked to speak to her supervisor and was told that she was not available at the time but that she would be informed, I also went back to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager they were also not available recap this place runs with no one at the helm, next day Sunwing rep informed us that we were in luck and a wheelchair and crutches were found and would be at our disposal for the remainder of our trip "how thoughtful" 7 days of misery with no access to the beach because of poor, uneven and broken down walkways went by now, with no one from the hotel approaching us to see how we were doing, (Nobody Cares!!) we finally tracked down a supervisor Michel and asked if this was normal no to have a manager respond to a request from one of their guests and he of course said no and asked what the issue was I pointed to my wife who was in a wheelchair told him the story above and he seemed genuinely sad about our ordeal and proceeded to call on his radio for his superior she came and listened to our story and asked the big question what would make us happy "read" (shut us up) I told her in my 30+ years of hospitality I have never witnessed such disdain towards people and made sure that upon my return I would write my review on the Warwick.
Well I'll tell you, PEOPLE if you are thinking of booking here save your time spend your hard earned money elsewhere they don't care about your loyalty to their brand they just want your money.
This resort has a lot of potential
It's not that they have to spend millions to fix these problems how much would some pole lighting to have better illumination at night cost, and add some dirt or sand to even out the sidewalks and fix broken pieces of wood that impede a safe passage to the beach and also do a board walk on the beach so people can admire its beauty really it's not that much
As for the attitude of the staff it all starts with proper leadership and this hotel has none
BOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK
some hotels look at the reviews and respond I will be waiting to hear from the Warwick

Roc Lagunas del Mar: A week in paradise
I can't say enough good things about my experience at Warwick.
The grounds were absolutely beautiful, they were tended to all day long by very friendly staff. Colourful flowers along the walkways and planters throughout every building. (Late night walks from the room to the hotel bar are a must! The number of stars is breathtaking)
Every building at this resort was designed to really showcase the gorgeous landscape. Seeing the ocean from the lobby as we first arrived was absolutely thrilling.[... read more] My girlfriend and I knew right away that this was the perfect resort for us. (Three bars in the main hotel with the snack bar and pool bar practically a minute away let us change up the scenery a lot and every sitting area was wonderfully furnished)
The pool! Really should be called pools, multiple huge swimming pools with varying depths with most connected for easy access to deeper water. There's also a valley ball and basket ball net, but we mostly stayed to the chairs around and in the pool. (The pools are so refreshing after just a few minutes in the sun and the swim up bar was a favourite spot of ours.)
The beach and ocean view really are incredible. Gorgeous blue waters and the warm white sand make for an amazing sun bathing spot. There's also lots of shade for laying in and multiple beach bars with great fresh sandwiches that they'll bring right to You! (We spent our time by the middle section of the beach and it was very quiet. It's the rockey portion so flip flops or shoes are recommended but the staff still come over to ask if you want drinks or sandwiches, have I mentioned the sandwiches? Seriously the ham and cheese was a life saver after a night of indulging)
Now the food was an interesting experience. We'd heard all the warnings about it being bland or just plain bad so I went in with very low expectations. Now I totally disagree after experiencing the cuisine for myself but I can see where some people might get that idea. The alacarte restaurants were incredible and totally blew me away so I can only imagine the complaints are from the buffet. The buffet food is definitely filled with a few very odd things but like with any buffet you just have the look for the diamonds in the rough. Lots of great meats and cheeses but where the food really shines are the stations! Pasta, rice, seafood and meat for dinner with omelets for breakfast. (The wait can be a little long for the seafood but they give you a mountain of food. Every night was something difference but the mussels, lobster and tilapia were our absolute favourites.)
I could rave about this resort for hours but I'll leave it there. Thank you Warwick cayo Santa Maria for an incredible week and a lifetime of memories.

Melia Las Dunas: Melia Las Dunas was a Beautiful Resort
We can not compare this resort to any other as this was our first ever all-inclusive trip.
Upon arriving at the resort, the people at the registration desk , promptly got us registered with no issues.
They were very friendly and helpful.
The room we booked was exactly as requested.
The resort site was very clean and well maintained.
The food was very good and tasty, with a large variety. The 4 course a la Carte's were excellent.
The ocean colors here were amazing - the gorgeous blues [... read more]and greens.
The beaches were very clean. The sand was very fine and white.
All resort staff, anywhere on site, were very friendly, courteous and helpful.
Very nice resort, clean, bright, lots of variety and space to roam or just relax. Great sand, good beach depth for scuba diving and the Hobie cats are cool. Nice rooms, great showers, Only downside; my toilet leaked clean water all over the floor.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Beautiful Resort
The resort is very new and it was gorgeous. It wasn't super busy so we were able to choose where we wanted to sit at the pool, beach, dinner, etc. The beach was the most beautiful beach I've ever been to. The food was mediocre but travelling to Cuba that was an expectation. There was quite a language barrier which was difficult at times but the staff was clearly trying to accommodate as best they could. The only downfall was the "disco" which is a little bit off the resort and costs money to get[... read more] into and is not unlimited drinks. It was $10 and you got 3 drinks with that. Every resort I've ever been to the disco has been right on the resort and included in the "all inclusive" part, so I would not recommend going to that. Valentin Perla Blanca: Surpass all expectations...
This was our 3rd time to Cuba, second to this location and first at the Valentin. We had a specific list of needs for this 7 day vacation and we were not disappointed. The resort was clean and with lots of options with how you want to spend your days. The beach was beautiful, the pool areas perfect and the food was impressive. The rooms were exactly what we needed as far as what we had chosen with pool view, location and room type. We had no issues all week. Did I mention the weather was almost [... read more]perfect for the week as well....Entertainment in the evenings was very good and the shows were enjoyable as well. Who doesn't like live music?
Lastly, the staff that makes the Valentin work must be commended. They try so very hard to make sure everything is pleasant and you are satisfied with everything....
If they could build a airport closer the area and omit the 90 minutes transfer, you would have absolutely nothing to complain about. Remember this is Cuba and you are on vacation. Enjoy!...4 star for the Valentin.

Royalton Cayo Santa Maria: First Impressions Count
As soon as our bus approached the hotel you could hear everyone on the transfer bus saying "Wow this hotel looks so beautiful, we tried to get in and it was fully booked, no wonder!"
As we entered the open air lobby we were amazed by the backlit alabaster seating area, the smell of fresh flowers and the friendly reception we received. Check in was fast and very efficient. We did a quick tour of the grounds . It was jaw dropping beauty, the 2 infinity pools, the landscape lighting and the spect[... read more]acular lush gardens.
Shortly after arriving at our room our luggage arrived. The room was nice and quite large and very quiet. It was an ocean view room with a balcony .
The beach at this resort was the biggest and best we saw in the area.
The food was quite good , the variety offered was good and all our dinner reservations were booked for us by our two personal butlers. Most of the wait staff were very professional and provided us with excellent service.
Our maid, Dayami was such a joy and left us an assortment of towel sculpture every day. We looked forward to seeing her every day. The entire resort was very clean and well kept.
The beach was a pristine white beach with plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas for shade. The water was crystal clear and nice and warm. This is the most beautiful beach we have been to in Cuba.
The entertainment staff were amazing. They led beach walks, stretching on the beach, games on the beach, dancing lessons and water fitness classes. The evening entertainment was something we looked forward to every evening in the lobby. The variety and high standard of entertainment was the very best we have experienced on any holiday we have ever taken and we have travelled a lot.
The gardens are spectacular and hats off to the entire team of gardeners who keep this resort so spectacular. I speak Spanish and they even answered gardening questions I asked.
This is a very well managed resort. It has made a lasting impression on us and we look forward to returning. We would definitely recommend this resort.
Our only complaint was the Sunwing flight being delayed and the poor quality of food offered, and the cramped seating on board.

Valentin Perla Blanca: Pros and Cons
We visited Valentin Perla Blanca in Cayo Santa Maria from Feb 17 – 24th. Mixed reviews with pros and cons. I would go back to the region again, but likely not the same hotel.
PROS
Food: Snack Bar was great. Same food on a limited menu but it was reliable. Servers were great and always smiling and willing to serve you. We went daily for breakfast and lunch. Omelettes and chicken fingers were great. Beer and wine were very good.
Beach: The beach and views of the ocean were fantastic. Sand w[... read more]as soft and white.
Nightlife: Entertainment at the theatre was okay. The Michael Jackson show was amazing. Every night there was something different, but not well attended. I would recommend having the shows at the same time each night so guests could plan their evenings. We enjoyed the entertainment in the main lobby (but there were also many smokers there too which is a con). There was one entertainer that was amazing – but he was only performing one evening.
Staff: Servers in the snack bar, cleaning staff, gardeners, and attendants on the beach were very friendly and always willing to assist (for a tip). They were always grateful for anything they received. They work long hours and try to make your vacation as enjoyable as possible.
CONS
Arrival: We departed from Montreal; our flight was an hour late, but was a good flight. At the Santa Clara airport, we were greeted without delay and led to our coach bus. The representative on the bus only spoke French. We speak English and language or translation was never discussed. We missed valuable information tied to hotel policies, checkout, etc. We were not the only English speaking tourists on the bus and we just assumed translation would be provided. This was unfortunate as Cuban history, landmarks, and information was not available to us. We will be sure to travel out of Ottawa next time.
Check-in: We were traveling with another couple celebrating 2 separate occasions (anniversary and birthday). I had read on the hotel website to email special requests. I had done this 2-3 weeks in advance and tried the 2 email addresses listed, but never had a reply. I had also requested King or Queen sized beds. On arrival, our friends were provided a king sized bed and we had 2 small beds. We tried to change, but on 3 separate occasions, were repeatedly told to keep coming back every couple of hours to check. The front desk staff were not accommodating and rarely smiled. We were told to go to Guest Services, and still no change. Also on check-in, we were shuttled to our room. The attendants took our keys but they did not work. They had to use a master to let us in. After we gave them a tip, they informed us, we would have to walk to the main lobby to get new keys.
Room: Mini bar fridge was rarely stocked. We had to repeatedly ask for bottles of water, but a few days passed and they did not stock. Also, in room coffee maker was great, but coffee only provided on 3 out of 7 days. Our friends had coffee, but did not have a coffee pot available to make coffee (despite requesting one). We had asked for a bottle of wine to enjoy on our balcony, but this request was not even considered.
Food: We attempted the buffet, but it was so-so. Lineups and some foods were without labels so you could not identify what the dish was. Lots of pasta and French fries, so we did not starve. The a la carte restaurants were satisfactory. Would not recommend the Seafood Restaurant. Some items not available (still early at a 730 seating). We had to pay 40 Cuban dollars to have steak and lobster. Lobster was tough and inedible. The Spanish Restaurant was good, but again, many items not available for mains and desserts. The best restaurant was the Italian Restaurant. The lasagna was amazing. Definitely a must!
Check-out: Our flight was later (8pm at night) and we were leaving our hotel by 4pm. Checkout was for 1200. Our friends paid 20 Cuban dollars for a late checkout (10 dollars/hour). We spent the morning at the beach and had anticipated all of us showering and getting ready to depart. The entire hotel did not have water. We were unable to shower, but rinsed off in the pool; bathroom facilities not available anywhere. Very distressing for new guests coming and the many leaving that day. They did reimburse the 20 dollars after we complained.
