Amazing hotel. We got an upgrade without asking. Beach amazing. Only thing I would have changed was the early evening entertainment. In Cuba we are used to hearing Cuban talent in the lobby and dining rooms. Loved that in the past. This was the only resort where the talent was poor and very little of it
The food was the best I have had in Cuba. Sunning rep great.

Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites: Good resort
Stayed in Iberostar few times prior to the last visit. In time of booking requested room in the building 62, upper floor, in the wing facing Grand hotel. On arrival was given room on the upper floor in the building as requested but with balcony facing towards the pool (room 6265). Next day found out that even with the balcony door closed there was quite a bit of noise coming from the pool area. Concierge in the building accommodated my requeast and transferred me to the room facing Grand but on [... read more]the floor bellow (room 6247). It was a mistake on my part: I could hear everything coming from the floor above, furniture moving, steps, doors etc. It was the most unpleasant experience during my stay. The concierges in the building did the excellent job, trying accommodate my requests.
Especially want to mention: Claudia, Elizabeth, Alejandra, thank you all. One minor detail: there was no bottle opener in the room.
Rooms are in good shape, very good cleaning staff, mini bar was always full.
Good selection of international and local drinks at the main bar, JW Black Label, Don Julio tequila, Spanish champagne and wines etc. Main bar (I call it Pyramid Bar, but proper name starts with K), bartenders Johny, Alberto and others are very efficient and trying accommodate your requests in no time at all.
With exception of noise (it could be just me as I spend a lot of time in hotels world over while travelling on business and very sensitive to the noise coming from outside) you are getting good value for your money.
Good selection and quality of food in La Marina restaurant, La Tapia(?) during lunch, very good service.
I corresponded with Tripcentral about Sunwing representative in the hotel. I brought back the card for requesting return transfer to the airport. Shall be happy to scan and to E-Mail it on your request.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: A Memorable Holiday
My wife and I along with our son stayed at Iberostar Daiquiri in Cayo Guillermo for 2 weeks from January 12 to 26. We had an ocean view unit on the second floor of Guadalavaca building. It is a quiet place with plenty of coconut trees and lush vegetation. The view of the ocean from our balcony was spectacular. The unit itself was quite spacious with a king sized bed and a roll-a-bed. It came with a good sized TV (about 30") and a fridge which was replenished with soft drinks and water on a dai[... read more]ly basis.
The bus ride from the airport took only about half-hour, which is a welcome change from the one and a half hours we had to spend on the bus going to Cayo Santa Maria last year. An additional bonus associated with the bus ride this time is that we were able to see beautiful Flamingos at close range in a lagoon close to the causeway. Actually, the lagoon is within walking distance from our resort that we were able to go and see the Flamingos again.
The check-in was pretty fast and hassle-free, thanks to an efficient and friendly front desk staff.
The food in the buffet restaurant was fairly average, if not boring, during the first two days. But after my wife complained about it to the guest services manager, there was a dramatic improvement. In fact, the hotel was so obliging that we were treated to a free lobster dinner. The breakfast was very good and covered a wide range of items such as eggs, sausages, ham, fresh fruits and juices. For lunch, there was fish, chicken and other meat. The dinner was also very good with a wide variety of items. In addition to the buffet restaurant, guests could make reservations at 3 other restaurants-Mexican, Cuban, and Italian. We visited all of them and found the Mexican to be the best. On the whole, the quality of food in our resort was very good and we have no complaints.
The beach is by far the main attraction. The water is so clear and shallow that one could see various kinds of fish without going too far into the ocean. One other point is that unlike in the past, the beach has now been expanded quite a bit thereby making it easy for people to walk several miles. We saw people flying kites, paddle boating, kayaking and fishing. Just a short distance from our hotel is Playa Pillar, which is believed to be even nicer than Guillermo. It can be reached by taking a ride on a double-decker bus for 5 CUCs. We did not go there but our son did. He was highly impressed and feels that it is one of the finest beaches he has ever seen.
On balance, it was a great holiday and we have nothing but high praise for Daiquiri as well as for Cuba and its people. The country is extremely safe and relatively clean. This was our fourth visit to Cuba (although our first visit to Daiquiri) and we hope to go to the same resort next year too.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Gorgeous Resort, has a few issues.
“The Goodâ€
The hotel and grounds are gorgeous.
Checkin/Checkout were simple and fast.
We had a suite, and it was spacious and very clean.
Beach is absolutely stunning.
Weather was amazing.
With a bit of experimentation you can find food that is good. We preferred the buffet to the ala carte restaurants.
Buffet dinner on New Years Eve was excellent.
Restaurant staff was all very helpful and pleasant.
Night time entertainment and shows were great and lots of fun.
Sunquest staff on-s[... read more]ite was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
“The Issuesâ€
The beach chairs were extremely uncomfortable. Lots of people mentioned this.
There was an occasional smell of sewage in our room and in the open air theater for nightly entertainment.
Room and beach towels are in scarce supply and sometimes not available.
Extra bed brought in for our daughter was extremely uncomfortable.
A few problems in the room indicative of shortages: burnt out light bulbs not replaced; showerhead holder broken.
We focused on the amazing beach and lived with the shortcomings and had a wonderful time.

JOIA Paraiso by Iberostar: Wonderful staff and restaurants
This is the adults only Iberostar hotel in this resort
It was a great hotel in its time but since we started staying there it has got "tired" and is showing its age.
The staff are very attentive and the choice and quality of food is A1 but there are areas where maintainence is clearly required
We had internal room problems which we identified to management every morning and nothing was fixed for the whole week

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Excellent staff
As a repeat client, we were treated with exceptional care. We received a welcome bouquet of roses & a bottle of rum. Food was great and the staff at this resort go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. Will return once again in April.
The staff and facility is amazing. The grounds, rooms and restaurants as well as recreation areas and beach are spotless. Cleaned constantly. The food was excellent and plentiful. The best was the friendliness and spirit of all the staff. Thanks Pariso Beach for the memories!

Iberostar Waves Quetzal: Amazing resort is right!
to whom it may concern; I will speak/write on behalf of myself in hopes that Robert will write his own review :o)
First of all thank you for offering such great giveaways. We were fortunate enough to win and for that I am grateful. The experience was a most wonderful one.
The flight down was a little chilly but I managed to cover up quite well. Upon landing we were received at the airport by your representatives with signs, well dressed and TRANSAT logo well in view. The drive to our [... read more]hotel was a pleasant one.
As per hotel: WOW! I have never been to an all inclusive resort that had SO much to offer. The service (always right there if you needed that little extra bit of wine etc), room (very spacious and clean), surroundings were all above and beyond expectation. I enjoyed the location so much that I will be returning to this particular Iberostar with family. I have been talking about my surroundings non stop to everyone since I got back. And I haven't touch on everyone yet! Let me expand! The animal life and beautiful plants were everywhere. The flamingos lively colour, the monkeys nest right outside our bedroom window ( we were on the top floor) the lizards basking in the sun by the pool we frequented ( they did not bother a soul and were not intimated when walking right by them or taking a close up pic), the peacocks (did you know they could fly? We did not until one was posing for us on our balcony--did I mention we were on the top floor), the beautiful waterfalls, landscape, numerous birds, and other little "rodents" (can't remember their name) just meandering about. I JUST LOVED BEING THERE!!!!!! For me it was not just basking in the sun/drinking and having a good time (too old for that now I guess) I go for the warmth more than the sun. So you see all the extra nature like activities were for me two holidays in one. The weather was great and I must say I had a very relaxing and most enjoyable week.
A great big thank you to whomever is responsible for putting out TRIP TRIVIA and very glad I/we came across your website. Telling my friends about that as well.
At this moment I am feeling a little greedy because I hope to win another one :o)
tu amiga Cecilia
P.S. I must tell you that another highlight of this trip was, after taking a year of Spanish classes I was able to practise the language and the people there were VERY receptive to helping me with pronunciation and vocab.
MUCHAS GRACIAS TODOS AMIGOS A TRIP CENTRAL!

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Three Stars
The staff of Iberostar Playa Alameda were amazing. Could not do enough for you and always had a smile on their faces. The rooms were clean but there were plumbing problems with the shower and the towels left something to be desired. There was not enough storage area for clothes and accessories. We were not impressed with the A La Cart restaurants and after trying two of them went to the buffet for the rest of our meals. The beach was lovely and lots of activity around the pool area. The [... read more]nightly entertainment was excellent. Again, it was the staff that made our vacation enjoyable. More upgrades required to make this a lovely resort.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Our family vacation
They have a very clean resort. Lots of activities to do. Easy to book excursion with. Book your all a carts right away as they book up. Personally my daughter and I really enjoyed the brazillian restaurant while my hubby and son loved the Japanese. The dive staff were amazing and fun to dive with. Very professional. Only issue was people putting towels on chairs to hold them. That you never saw anyone use. So our theory was if there was no one in the ocean and seat were empty for 30 minutes we m[... read more]oved the towels and used them. Evening shows were entertaining. And entertainment staff worked hard to involve everyone. We feel it was very good value for our stay.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: First time at an all-inclusive resort!
Overall pretty good resort! Clean and well maintained. Good service from all staff; very friendly, entertaining and welcoming. Food was good; lots of variety and the cooks grilled fresh meat/ seafood right in front of you every meal. There were also 3 a-la-carte restaurants that were decent. Rooms were mediocre. Pool was fairly big and clean. Beach was a little disappointing as there were lots of patches of large rocks in the water and the water was darker and at times more murky than the pictur[... read more]esque clear blue-green water you see in pictures. Mixed drinks were fruity and delicious, not great for beer or wine as they only have one local beer on the resort "el presidente" and a local red and white wine. Careful of the locals though! They're very good at hustling tourists!

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: Playa Blanca but no playa
This is a spacious resort with large open common areas and friendly ,curteous and attentive staff. (Esp. Carlos at the front desk)AC was working,we had no water issues till the last day when it was off for 12hrs, our room was a good size with a good bed, new flatscreen TV, working safe and hair dryer but poor lighting in Bathroom. There are no radios, alarm clocks or coffee makers in the rooms but the coffee downstairs is great. The pool area is large with plenty of chairs though bech towels are [... read more]not always readily available. There are daily activities and nightly entertainment.
HOWEVER: There is no longer a beach at Playa Blanca due to high winds, waves and erosion. The nearest beach is a 10min walk and is clothing optional. Many of the beaches along this coast appear to be at risk. The resort provides free train service and transfer by boat to Sirena beach which is beautiful. You can also take a cab (availability varies) for 2CUC to Paraiso(great for little ones) or Sirena.
FURTHER: The food is what you expect in Cuba. Mediocre and never at the appropriate temperature. Very little in way of fresh vegetables,no bacon, no ice cream.Very repetative and generally boring except for our a la cartes. We did have amazing lobster on our optional sunset cruise.
We did speak to a number of people who needed to change rooms for various deficiencies. This was readily facilitated. There are definite accessibility issues. There are no elevators in the main 3 storey building and the handicapped washrooms are poorly designed. There continues to be room for improvement.
That all being said, we tend to be fairly easy to please and we did have a lovely week with great weather and great people.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Very nice resort
The hotel, pool , grounds were beautifull very well located with perfect access to a beautifull beach. The rooms were very nice .. there were a few kinks eg, our safe did not work some of the lighting was off or on according to its mood.. We were with our daughters so we were able to share their safe in their room with them. Dining was good in the buffet and the grill restaurant by the pool. We were very happy with the food tasty and lots of choices. We have been to a few all inclusive resorts[... read more] in other countries besides cuba and we are still trying to find one in which we can say that we loved the a la carte restaurant and here in cuba I have to say the same... After trying a couple of the a la cartes we much preferred to eat in the buffet restaurant.
The entertainment was very nice ... I was disappointed that there was no dancing especially with latin Cuban music. We had been to a different resort last year in cuba and there was always some opportunity to dance before dinner and after the entertainment show Mainly to latin music and I did miss that in this resort. But overall it was very good.

Grand Memories Cayo Largo: Love Cayo Largo
Well the resort is acceptable for Cuba but that's not the reason to come here. This trip is about pristine beaches, amazing sun, sand and fun. The beaches offer something for everyone from waves to calm waters, snorkelling to long walks. It's a place you can turn off the outside world and just enjoy the sounds, the warmth and your partner all day long. If you need a place that's get rid of the daily distractions than Cayo Largo is the place for you.
