Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Beautiful beaches!!
Just returned from club amigo. It has a beautiful beach! The snorkel which is quite close to shore was fantastic! The fish were outstanding! There is lots to do at this resort, there are 4 pools the main pool close to the beach is were most of the action is but each pool has a bar and snack bar.
The grounds are well taken care of and there is always someone taking care of it!
This is a three star hotel and if you are looking to relax and enjoy the sun this is a great place! The food is what it i[... read more]s on Cuba but you can always find something to eat. The best a la cartes were the Italian and vegetarian!
All in all a great vacation!!

Playa Costa Verde: Fabulous resort
Our stay was very enjoyable. We stayed for 9 days early March 2015. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with mature flowering shrubs & trees. The Cuban staff were very friendly and the food was good. I would have preferred a beach grill avail for lunches but the buffet & pool side rest were okay. The lobby is one of the most beautiful I have seen with the ivy cascading down to fountain pools below. The birds singing in there early on the morning we left was truly amazing! The convenient layou[... read more]t of the resort allows one to a access everything without having to walk forever. The beach is fabulous with clean areas for swimming as there are areas with coral - super walks on the beach but the beach chairs are not very comfortable - our king bed had a hard mattress not the most comfortable but we managed. You could not use Wifi unless you bought a 1hr card at the front desk for access & be sure to sign out when done or your time will expire & you need a new card. The evening entertainment was limited & there was no dancing in or near the lobby which we've enjoyed at other resorts but for the price those things can be overlooked - we would definitely go back to this resort :)

Brisas Guardalavaca: Enjoyed the ocean and waterfalls
The hotel was average, had to wait for our room to be ready when arrived, but the beach was excellent, lounge chairs fairly accessible, pools and bars were great. But the best feature of this resort is snorkelling right off the beach - lots of coral, fish and sea urchins (water shoes is a must!) - my 10-year old had a ball. You can also take a peddle boat further out and jump off to do some snorkelling (one of you must remain in the boat!) Also loved the excursion to "Salto del Guayabo" - 2 wate[... read more]rfalls in the mountains. The trail goes down to the base of the waterfalls in the tropical rainforest - lots of wildlife, - but the hike back up is challenging, won't recommend for unfit people. I believe they offer an easier option, you can ask. Be prepared to spend whole day for this (lunch is included) because the drive to this National park is about 2 hrs on bad Cuban roads, but you will pass through lots of fields and villages and you can observe some real Cuba. So if you are not too fussy about the Hotel accomodations, I highly recommend the resort

Playa Pesquero: Very enjoyable famly oriented resort!
My wife, little-one, and I stayed a PP resort for 7 days during March break 2015. The first impression of the hotel lobby is spectacular. This is a HUGE resort. It has 1000 rooms. The highlights for me were the lobby bar, which is pretty happening at all times of the day, but especially after dinner. The entertainment shows were very good, and they have earlier shows for children as well. Another highlight was the beach. Crystal clear and perfect turquoise water. A bit chilly in March, but very [... read more]very enjoyable. Lots of shade also. Rooms were clean, big and well air conditioned. Food was very good for Cuban standards. We all enjoyed their desert menu the most.
The resort is a bit pricey, but if you're looking for a very relaxing vacation in a beautiful resort with awesome beaches and pool, then look no further. PP is that resort. Go and Enjoy!

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: We like it, but villas are worth the extra $
This was our second trip to this resort. Last time we got villas, this time we tried the gardenview section. They are cheaper, very old and dated, tiny, dark and not all have balcony access. Get a villa, if you can afford it. If you really don't care where you lay your head, gardenview will be fine. But be prepared for lesser accommodations for less money! The rest of the resort is great, lots of pools, AMAZING snorkeling and food is decent. Beach is not great for long walks, but bring snorkel g[... read more]ear and you won't regret it!

Paradisus Rio De Oro: FANTASTICR ESORT
We were there for a week during the school March Break. So, the place was full. We didn't feel the crowds were an issue though. We had absolutely no problem getting dinner reservations for our restaurants of choice. There were plenty of beach chairs. However, if you did want a specific area, you did have to do that early rise and secure with your personal items routine. This is an issue everywhere you travel to. It is not easily resolved.
The cleanliness of the resort is excellent. In and outsid[... read more]e of the rooms. The staff are super friendly as we find all Cubans are. Very warm and wanting to practice their English with us.
The snorkeling was spectacular. We have taken snorkeling excursion offsite at other resorts. This was far better than any of those and you could just walk right of the beach to the reef. It was beautiful!
Even though I am younger than many of the visitors to the resort, there are concerns regarding some safety hazards around the resort. Many areas are not well lit up. We met several people who had fallen and were bruised and scraped from tripping over small ridges, etc. Lights at the base of trees in the major traffic areas would be beneficial.
The major complaint that I had, was with our hotel transfer at the beginning. We knew that it was supposed to be a 50-60 minute drive. We love that, as we get to see a bit of the countryside and information from our guide. We were with Air Canada Vacations on this trip. When are bus started out, we found out that we were stopping at four hotels. Ours was to be the last stop. Almost two hours later, we arrived at our destination. It would have been professional to be made aware of this before booking so that we could manage our own expectations of the holiday. A few days into our trip, we spoke to the Air Canada rep. He was sorry that it worked out that way and explained that it would be better on our return to the airport. We were to be the last picked up and therefore our departure time would change. We were to check with "the book" the day before our departure that would show our change. We did that. But, no change was made. So everyone was waiting at 7:05 am for our 7:15 am pick up. Our bus arrived at almost 8:00 am. It would have be nice to be notified about this pick up time and perhaps had some breakfast before we left. So, poor communication on Air Canada's part.
This is not reflection of the hotel at all. Our disappointment was with Air Canada Vacations.
The Paradisus Rio de Oro was a great holiday in a beautiful location.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Not very good
The Standard rooms are really bad, the tap and sliding door are not working. Food was almost the same thing every day. Some days the ran out of food at the 24 hr snack bar. We had to upgrade for more $$.

Playa Pesquero: Play Pesquero Exceeded Expectations
My wife and I have been to Cuba have a dozen times and this was the first time in Holguin. On par with the best hotels in Cuba for food. This is the best hotel in Holguin, with others somewhat lacking their own beach.

All round excellent resort. I give everything 5 stars with the exception of the food which I would rate as still good. Some public areas could have been slightly cleaner but this was only a minor thing.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Solid Choice economical vacation
Very clean, more traditional Cuban resort. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Food was average, but better than other Cuban resorts I've been to. Pools are very nice, five to choose from including small kids pool. Never an issue finding chairs, but ones in shade a little more difficult. Beach itself is ok, some seaweed to deal with for sure. Pizza and Burgers at beach hut were great. Rooms are average, clean and a decent size. Would definitiely consider returning, value is hard to beat. H[... read more]olguin is also a very nice area, with a small easily navigated airport.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Club Amigo was okay
The food was good, but the rooms were mediocre. The bed killed my back and the toilet sang every time it was flushed. Power was lost a couple of times, and there were many beach chairs broken. You get what you pay for!

Brisas Covarrubias: Great trip! March 5-12 2015
This resort has the most amazing staff. They deserve a huge MUCHAS GRACIAS for all they do and for making our vacation to Brisas Covarrubias an awesome experience.
The start of our trip began at the airport where we were met by the Air Transat crew and boarded our flight. My 10 year old daughter and I had a great start to our week away from the frigid cold. Flight was smooth and crew were great!
The shuttle from the airport in Holguin was long but entertaining and lasted about 2.5 hours. Stopp[... read more]ed for bathroom break and so we could by beer. Not my daughter, of course, just the adults. Haha.
We arrived at the resort and it was beautiful. Lobby very nice and very open concept. Nice bar right next to their and great service and drinks. Cristal beer is on tap here and very nice to drink. Rest of resort has Bucanero and a little stronger, but still nice too. Buffet was large and had decent food. I can't criticize, food was good for Cuba and yet again amazing service. Try the lobster...fantastic and cheap. May be included if you buy VIP package. A la carte was nice and great view. Right beside beach bar and food was very good. Live entertainment even the night we went.
The beach is gorgeous and definitely the highlight. A little coral and some rocks but very visible and avoidable. Spots with none and you can walk out very far. Very good for children and safe. Bring water shoes if you like to explore as will help you walk over and around a bit easier, but not a necessity. Beach bar is close and very good bartenders, William is great! Lots of snacks here at lunch and nice change from buffet which was a little repetitive.
Pool was nice and large with salt water. Very safe and clean. Swim up bar is nice touch but not tended well. Pool bar was good and easy enough to get out and walk around it really wanted something. Raul was a great bartender and always willing to make a drink of any kind for you. They serve snacks and drinks at pool bar at night after 11pm. Amazing cheese and ham panini sandwiches. Disco until 2 am most nights was an option for some nighthawks as well. I went twice and it was actually fun. Not corny like some resort discos can be. Good music and lots of people dancing. Good mojitos!
We went to Puerto Padre excursion and it was a good choice. Went to a farm and got to eat fresh bananas right off tree and fresh peanuts from gardens. Had a tour and a fruit buffet. Toured a cigar factory. We had an hour to walk around and shop and do our own thing and then a fantastic lunch in a restaurant overlooking the waterfront. Highly recommend this tour. $38 adult and $24 child.
This place has a store, bank (say hello to Janet, she's a gem), a decent kid's club and medical clinic if you need it. The gym is rough if you like to exercise, run on the beach and give yourself a strength training break, as gym wasn't great. I don't want to be negative, this was minor to me and I am big on exercise. But don't go expecting a good life fitness or anything even close. Haha.
I would go back if got a good deal again. These people try very hard to make a great time and deserve positive feedback. It's Cuba and don't expect 5 star, but they are fantastic for what they have to work with. We had a beautiful second floor oceanview room and there were minor things but not a trip spoiler in the least and always tried to correct any issue...
Thank you, muchas gracias to Brisas Covarrubias!!! We miss you!

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Perfect trip
From the moment we arrived at the resort I was very impressed being met by one of the hotel staff and a glass of champagne. We sat in the lobby while he checked us in, we didn't even have to go to the front desk. Everyone was very friendly, our room was clean, the entire resort was well kept up and the food was excellent. I would definitely return.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Wonderful Family Vacation!
Grounds:Well kept with beautiful vegetation. The layout worked fine with us but it may be an issue for people with small children or for people with mobility issues as there are many steps. We were located in the 500 block of rooms which were centrally located.
Rooms: Very clean and well kept. Lots of water pressure and hot water. Mini bar is restocked on a daily basis, and liquor dispensers are restocked as well.
Food: Was repetitive every night but always found something to eat.
Beach: The [... read more]beach at this resort is man made and was just OK... Lots of slimy grass when you walk out into the water which I didn't care for much. On the plus side there was a lot of places to get shade at the beach if needed.
Pools: Although I love the beach, the pools at this resort are phenomenal and made up for the less desired beach.
Service: The service at this resort is top notch and they go above and beyond to make their guest comfortable. The employees at this resort are very hard working and always trying to please their guest.
