Starfish Varadero: Pretty good!

12th trip to Cuba, first at Starfish. Stayed in bungalow section. Room was large and comfortable. Close to pool and buffet which was very practical. Service was exceptionally good. Food was above average.

Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Everything is perfect in this hotel

Everything was perfect in this hotel!The rooms were clean,the food was perfect with a varaity of dishes,the staff were very friendly and willing to serve you with a smile on their faces and the best of all..The beach was fantastic!!it was like heaven!For sure we will be back soon!Asta lavista!!!!!!!!!

Melia Las Antillas: Not a 4+ star resort!

Hotel needs renovating - rooms all need some tlc and the lobby leaks, a lot, when it rains (which it did for several days). Smoking seems to be everywhere, especially at the entrance of the hotel. Had to change both rooms as one A/C very loud and door not locking in one room and toilet not working in the other room. Had to justify why we wanted to change rooms but persisted and got it done. Food at the Mediterranean restaurant is hit and miss but service very good. Don't bother making a reservation for the Cuban restaurant - not worth it! A long walk to the beach but once there, no problems getting loungers. Not all staff happy about you trying to get a clean beach towel even every couple of days. The staff in all areas, for the most part, are very friendly and try their best to make your stay comfortable. The entertainers were very good and the shows enjoyable.The courtesy room for changing in between checking out and leaving is a joke - the worst I've ever seen - just gross! We were lucky to get clean towels only because we were quite friendly with one of the cleaners who happened to see us going to the room. Would recommend it but only after letting everyone know what they can expect. If I do stay there again, it would only be because of the staff as they do try their best.

Blau Varadero: Nice surprise

Just returned from Blau Varadero and was pleasantly surprised.we actually could eat the food! Pizza was amazing Rooms very clean and roomy. I liked the lay out of the resort everything close by. Only down fall was the drink selection but always seemed to find something. Staff were extra friendly and spoke great english. Plently of lounge chairs to put your towels on but found not enough shady areas for those of you needing some shade. Roc Barlovento: Needs work

The resort overall was ok. The bartenders and buffet staff were great. Maids never changed bed sheets, swept floor and disregarded do not disturb sign. Sliding door for balcony wouldnt close so bugs in the room at night were horrible. Rain leaked inside the room as well as the ac. Food was good but very repetitive. Reception staff were quite rude.

Los Delfines: So sad

Dinning room was small &, dark very very dirty table clothes every day. Food was usually spilling out of there very small warmings trays. Flies always on the uncovered bread ..fruits and butter. Most of the serving staff very unfriendly. Most of the staff just didnt seem to really be very interested in there jobs. I encountrted littrtally one if the worst front desk. Vhevk in clerks ive ever had in all my many travells. This Guy behaved as if he was massively constipated and speaking, movng a [... read more]nd looking at U was a tremendous burden. My room had hige amounts of water seeping in 4 nites in a row. No one came to assist. I had to go hunting for help. Got a houskeeper once. By the fourth nite of rain I just gave up and let the room flood. No towels all week..None...until the nite before I checked out. Fortunatly I always walk with my own to Cuba. Everyone smoked while on duty. The maids..sécurity..at the excursion desk...etc Best thing...I got lots of great Sun. The sea was fantastic. And I met some Awsome folks.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Best resort ever

It was my daughters first Cuba experience and my second. We had the time of our lives. The Roc Arenas Doradas resort was a beautiful well kept fun for all experience. The staff and activities were next to none. Beautiful people with the biggest smiles every day. I would highly recommend this resort to all for the best Cuban experience. Melia Internacional: Not Worth The Price!

Rooms could use an alarm clock and maids didn't thoroughly clean our bathtub and didn't change bedsheets. Unless all their bedsheets have stains... We knew coming into Cuba to keep our expectations low for food. We found this resort's food was utterly terrible. Food was either overcooked or undercooked. We ended up eating mostly from the fresh cooked pasta station. Chef's there were great. It was a hit or miss with the waiters/waitresses. Possibly because they are all over the place rather the [... read more]n focusing on certain areas. Ice cream shop called Fragola was fantastic as well as the employee who always smiles in there. Special shout out to Bryan at the Blue Sky Bar who always took great care of us. We ate outside resort and food was excellent so I do not think this is a Cuba thing but more a resort(s) thing. Not all the restaurants/establishments were open at the time of this review. The a la cartes that were open were utterly terrible. And the design does not fit with the theme of the restaurant. They are not strict on dress protocol as a lot of men came in with shorts and sandals. Beach was amazing. I would not recommend this resort.

Melia Las Americas: Good Resort, Dated Rooms

The resort overall is good. If you get an older room, the room is very dated. The food was good for Cuba and the staff were very friendly. The pools were not busy, you were always able to find somewhere to sit to eat or sit on the balcony.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Sleeping beauty? No, sleeping duty!

We've just back from the resort. Spent 10 days there with our friends. It was our 11th visit to Cuba, and 6th in Varadero. We choose Iberostar because the name, and very positive experience from our previous stays. At this time resort was filled for 40-50%. Half of premises were closed. On bright side, we had a plenty of sunbeds on the beach, at any time. About Iberostar Playa Alameda. It use to be as great resort. Now it looks dying. 60% of outside lighting are off. Working lights i [... read more]n dining hall and bars are dim and depressive. I've seen a numerous signs of improper maintenance: fallen light bollard with exposed wires, broken switches, unprotected pits beside walkway, uncleaned beach, uncleaned pool floor... We occupied the building #17. On the second day, the glass sliding door in shower cabin slipped down when I was trying to close it. I was able to catch it and put back. Next day the door fell down and broke on hundreds of sharp pieces when my wife was taking shower. Fortunately, no major injures. Reaction from resort? They just changed door, and hung it on the same unsafe way! I'm not a picky person. I would forgive some imperfections, especially on Cuban soil... What really irritates me is the amount and repetitiveness of those little problems. Every day (yes, everyday) as we return from the beach, we had to call to reception. The reasons may vary: could be uncleaned room, or lack of soap/shampoo or toilet paper, insufficient or ripped towels... Two times they made the bed with the same linens. But, what is most annoying is the mini-bar. And I'm not talking about beer. The water! Everyone knows that tap water is no-no, only bottled one is drinkable. But, this was the first resort when we need to fight for any bottle! You can not find it anywhere. Neither at lobby nor in the bar. We had to call to reception 3-4 times and only listen to their promises. Finally, I solved the problem, when start buying water from some service person. Can anyone imagine that? We are back and we are happy. The ocean was great, rain was falling mainly on nights, and we had a good time with our friends. And we lost weight, too! Because the food was eatable only two times per week.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Not as good as before!

Some of the hotel staff like the one's we used to know from previous visit on the same resort is still awesome!!!, but most of them they don't even give you the time of day. The rooms are still the same but need some updates for sure. The pool are disgusting!!! There's plastic cups everywhere looks like they haven't clean it so we didn't spent anytime in the pool, I wouldn't even dip my feet in it Food at the buffet and specially at the lunch area by the pool side is disgusting!!! We order hot d [... read more]ogs and it looks like that they literally just roll the hotdog on the grill just to grab the grease of the grill and serve it to us, the hot dogs were pale and not even cook at all. When it comes to alcohol beverages they run out of beer and white wine at the front lobby and even some liquor too J&B to be exact. The food was so bad that we had to reserve Japanese food for dinner 4 nights in a row because that's the only decent food you could get. So to some this all up I wouldn't go back to that same resort ever again.

Iberostar Selection Varadero: Good resort

Grounds maintained very well, but several ornamental ponds attract mosquitoes. Our room was very clean. Food was very good, but flies were everywhere in restaurants. Night entertainment was OK, but not excellent. Best night show by far was the one called something like Stone Rock. For the other shows, the singers group was better. It would b [... read more]e even better to start at 10:30 pm, easier to leave early and to wake up next morning. People employed by the resort are friendly. This is also valid for most of the people at the restaurants and bars. Best part of the resort is the beach and especially the sea water: water is crystal clear, warm, with shallow entry.

Roc Barlovento: Great Hotel

5th trip to Cuba, 2nd stay at the Barlovento. Food was good and plenty for all. Room clean, mattress comfy. Pool area clean except late Friday to Monday as well as when people came in with day passes. Staff amazing - Osmany, Madelin, Deisy, Joel, Joseph, Migel, Reinier, Livan and everyone else. Need to improve monitoring people smoking and drinking in the pool. Put ashtrays of some kind at beach - people putting their cigarette butts in sand for others to step on. More ashtrays and garbage co [... read more]ntainers in and around lobby and pool areas. Staff could be educated to tell guests nicely to pick up their garbage. I don't mind telling people to clean up their mess as this affects everyone. Lovely hotel, will return. Thank you to everyone for a relaxing week (June 10-18). Would rate 3.5 - 4.0 stars.

Occidental Arenas Blancas: Amazing resort

the service is great, it’s been my fifth time going and I would definitely go back again. It sits on a big land with lots of greenery(palm trees, cactuses, tropical plant). Almost like a botanical garden.

Iberostar Origin Bella Vista Varadero: Not as good as the first time...

This is my second time at the resort, in a span of 4 months. I enjoyed it so much the first time because of the customer service and the beautiful grounds, that I decided to go back with a group of ten. Honestly it wasn’t as great as the first time. Customer service was horrendous from the beginning of check-in. The attendant at the front desk was full of attitude and gave my group some serious side eyes because maybe she didn’t want to deal with a group of ten! Who knows?? The room was dirt [... read more]y with stained sheets and the house chamber maids did not replenished our water and some members of my group also had the same problem. The dinning area (buffet) was not maintained quickly to service the next customer sitting down, so you had to call them over to clean the tables before you can actually use it. There was always a shortage of something, such as plates, glasses, napkins etc.. I don’t think the pool was clean, there were lots of debris, bugs and clear plastic cups. On the other hand, the beach is awesome and gorgeous. The front office personnel’s are all rude with a side of attitude and provide no apologies or compassion if you had a complaint. They would tell you “there is nothing we can do” my room door was broken and instead of them looking after it, they made me walk back and forth 3 times to test the door, I had to do this along with my four year old son! And we were not close to the front desk. After pleading my case that it is not the key but the actual door it self, they sent a mechanic to fix it - only to be broken again the next morning. I had to repeat the whole ordeal again. Such a waste of my afternoon. Again, no apologies or compassion. The bartenders and waiting staff on the other hand are super nice. On the last day, let me remind you that check out time is 12p. We had 6 rooms in total. Out of the 6 rooms, 3 rooms got a call at 10am saying they had to check out of their room by 1030am. My family did not speak English so well and it was their first time, so they evacuated the room by 10:30am. I was not aware about this situation until we left the resort, otherwise they would’ve heard it from me. The reason being was that there were new guest checking in. Anyways, I also found another fellow Canadian who found the service terrible and she quoted “I will not be coming back here again” she too also visited the resort twice. I am very embarrassed to bring my family here because for most of them it was their first time. With that being said, I too will not recommend my friends or family or see myself back here again.

Playa Vista Azul: All we hoped it would be

The rooms were clean, the ocean and beach were gorgeous, the pool area was amazing. The food was also very good. Would be happy to return. The staff was very helpful and kind. The pool and snack bar were also excellent

Starfish Jibacoa: Lovely Staff, Very clean, Beautiful location

This is our second visit. The fire ant infestation was awful. All around the pool deck and beach we were getting eaten alive. They do not spray for mosquitos so that was also a problem. Because of the two problems we will not return.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Awesome Vacation

This was our 3rd visit. The staff are amazing and ratings are not overstated. This property is perfect for those who like small intemit surroundings, under 300 rooms and a short walk to all amenities. The coffee bar and mornings in the garden were so relaxing. This review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the beach, fantastic!

Starfish Varadero: Back to paradise!!!

This was our third time at this hotel, as always the most amazing group of people working here that makes this place so special. One of the best beaches in Cuba, good value for your money. Don't hesitate to book here, you won't regret it!

Playa Vista Azul: Awesome Resort!!

My sister and I were at this resort from June 10th to 15th. We absolutely Loved it! The Resort is beautiful, very clean, the staff were super friendly, the food was great, and the beach was beautiful! We were a little bit hesitant to choose this place because we thought the beach would be rocky, but they have a beach on both sides of the resort. The beach to the right is big, sandy and gorgeous! There was a big selection. The beef was my favorite. Very flavorful and tender. Their bread was amazing too! I must say that this is the best resort I have been to and I can't wait to return!!
