This was our first time in Cancun and at this resort. It was a bit disappointing.. not at the same level as other Secret resorts we stayed at.
The pros are: nice beach, clean and ocean is warm. Just a bit rough to swim in but otherwise beautiful. Pools were nice. Veronica and Luis at the pool area were great and super attentive with getting you drinks. The room was Oceanview which was lovely.
For the Cons: I was a bit disappointed with this resort. Some staff were rude and expect [... read more]you to tip them. I don't mind tipping staff at the restaurants etc but don't demand it. The driver from the airport demanded a tip. Food was average, nothing special. I expected better options, more Mexican cuisine and it was mostly things you can eat at home. ALa Cart restaurants weren't very good. Long lineups too. The Steakhouse was the best one. The little shop they have in the hotel for souvenirs is way over priced. Price gouging. Make sure you bring pepto, immodium etc from home. The Lobby stunk of sewage. It was absolutely gross. Not sure how the staff cannot smell it. It was pretty bad. Rooms were ok, nothing special. They were very clean though.
Overall a disappointing experience. Not at the same level as the other Secrets resorts.

Hyatt Vivid Playa Del Carmen: Barcelo is better in every way. Love trip central, love air Transat, despise Hilton playa del carmen
Thank you trip central for booking this for us through air Transat. As always air Transat is amazing and exceeded our expectations. Nicole Kirk at trip central is awesome.
Hilton plays del Carmen is the third worst place I have ever stayed. The first two were Covid stays. This is the worst place outside of COVID.
You are a cash cow and this is not all inclusive. A romantic dinner for 2 is $150us per person. Yes $300us for a dinner. To get a steak is $90 US.
There were not enough beac[... read more]h or pool chairs. I literally needed to hover over the pool chairs for an hour just to get one. They was at 10:30am. Wasted sometimes 3 hours, in the sun, just to sit down. To get a cabana was $119 US. IF you get a beach chair, no shade. Expect to pay for shade.
If you want booze that does not run you to the bathroom, pay. If you want anything, you pay.
I was offended at how much we had to pay just to avoid a bathroom trip. Too much sun puts me in the bathroom, bad food, bad booze equals bathroom.
This hotel is small. Anyone that says it is good remembers it when it was the royal. When it was managed without paying extra for basic amenities.
We upgraded our room to an ocean view. That was laughable and the biggest rip off. We were on the top floor and the ocean was across the resort. I mean, the furthest room from the ocean. We could see a scuba diving tank, every other room, the garden, a gazebo, then the ocean. If I squinted I could see it. I was extremely upset at this upgrade.
Do yourself a favour, avoid this hotel. Go to the Barceló adults only up the road, it’s cheaper and better in every way.

Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach: Beautiful resort
This resort was very fun with lots of attractions and entertainment! Beautiful beach & pools! Monkeys and other animals were all around. Amazing lazy river runs through the hotel. Perfect place for a family vacation.
I liked the staff, the beach, the ambiance, the scenery. I liked the staff and the entertainment programs. It was a great time to reboot my energy and feel like I had been away for a month in one week.

Just returned from a week at Hotel XCaret in Mexico. It was our second visit and was wonderful. The resort is beautiful, the pools, the food, the selections of restaurants are all incredible. We booked with Candice Anger at Trip Central and she was fantastic, so helpful and approachable. We’ll absolutely return and will only book with Trip Central!

Breathless Riviera Cancun: breathless didnt take my breath away
The hotel was extremely clean in restaurant area hallways, and common areas, well staffed and everyone was attentive. SPA WAS AMAZING
Food was quite good. except for sea food - im a seafood lover it was extremely fishy i couldnt finish any seafood plate
We had a swimout swim which was quite musty, beautiful room but smell was off- also no fitted sheets on beds only use a flat sheet ontop of mattress that isnt large enough to cover the mattress which has no cover on it and was dirty looking.[... read more]
The loudness on the energy side is beyond normal if you are on that side of the hotel book a different room you cant nap in your room before 6pm as you are basically in a night club
the quite side of the beach was nice, the swim up pool is nice but the hot tub should be hot not same temp as pool.
Water activities were included except their employees was charging people - brought this up with management and they dealt with it but told me a few times no way and i was mistaken - which i wasnt.
i did have a fun time but i wouldnt stay at a breathless again its really for college spring break kids 24/7

Marival Emotions Resort and Suites Riviera Nayarit: Excellent stay (and some not so excellent points)
We travelled to Marival for my daughter's milestone birthday. It was the first time to this resort. My husband and I occupied one room in the resort section, my two adult sons shared a room in the resort section and my daughter, husband and granddaughter had a one bedroom suite in the club section. The resort is beautiful, the service for the most part is excellent. The food in the buffet restaurant is not the greatest, edible but very bland with the exception of the turkey night on Thanksgiving[... read more]. The breakfasts in La Pergola were very good, much better than the buffet.
When we arrived, the check-in experience was not good. The line was long and the staff had difficulty allocating our rooms. Then the front desk ran out of room key cards and after waiting for 90 minutes to check in, we had to wait another hour before they found key cards!! Just very strange that a resort should run out of key cards! Then when we got to our room, they had mixed up our room with our adult sons' room. After changing rooms twice, we finally ended up with a very nice room overlooking the family pool and a view of the ocean. The balcony was nice. Our room was lovely with a very comfortable bed. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and looked after very well.
We spent most of our time at the family pool and my granddaughter enjoyed the slides and just having fun. It was great that the beach is so close and easier to find lounge chairs on the beach. Hotdogs or hamburgers for lunch were good at La Bamba, followed by an ice cream cone.
Pro's
1. The Mexico fiesta was amazing. The food was so-so (excepting for the delicious churros, yum!) , but the atmosphere, the setting, the view and the mariachi band was fantastic.
2. The Michael Jackson tribute show was absolutely fantastic. Very professional and the lighting was amazing. Very impressive
3. Nice music in the Club lobby - we even danced. It was fun.
4. Honestly, the staff were amazing in all the restaurants and bars. We enjoyed aquafit every day and the pool entertainment staff were fantastic.
.
Cons:
1. The usual story of people claiming pool chairs by draping towels over them and then not using them for hours. I know this is a pet peeve of a lot of people but it was particularly bad at this resort. There should be something that can be done about this issue.
2. Not being able to book restaurants for the same night. We arrived the day before my daughter's special birthday and couldn't get a reservation for any of the specialty restaurants and ended up eating not particularly good pizza. Because my daughter and son in law had a suite, they had the services of an amazing concierge who managed to get us two dinner reservations and my son in law managed to book one dinner reservation, but other than that we were stuck eating dinner at the not so good buffet.
3. My daughter needed to do laundry and some of the machines weren't working and it took a while to get someone to help. It took so long to sort out the issue that she missed out on dinner with the family.
4. The Kids Club was lacking and my granddaughter is a very easy child to please.
All in all, we had a very enjoyable week at the Marival Emotions

Canto Del Sol: Cheap and cheerful resort....
The Canto Del Sol came highly recommended to us by some friends who had stayed there many times over the years prior to Covid, so we were really excited to go there.
First of all, the good...
The resort has a really authentic Mexican feel to it - the resort is old and could definitely use some updating but the rooms, pools and buildings are kept extremely clean. Our room was a standard room - nothing fancy - no fridge or even a coffee pot, but the room was comfortable and clean. Our one c[... read more]omplaint about the room was that the air conditioner was noisy (so noisy that we had to turn it off at night because we couldn't sleep), but we did not address this with the management at all, so that was on us.
We understood that the resort had a time share, but you wouldn't know it.
Wifi was free and worked well in our room and in the lobby area. Pool and buffet access was sketchy.
The buffet had a good variety of fresh, tasty food (although after 2 weeks we were getting a bit tired of it). Most of the dishes tended to be Mexican type food, but hey, we were in Mexico.
The specialty restaurants had excellent food. Unfortunately, they tended to be hard to book. You were given a coupon for every 2 days at the resort....unfortunately, quite often we were told that the restaurants were fully booked and it was impossible to get a reservation. We were unable to use all 7 of our reservation coupons due to them being "full". However, not once in the six times we ate at the various restaurants were any of them actually full.
All of the staff were marvelous - cleaning staff, servers, pool bartenders. No complaints at all. Special thanks to Fernando, Pedro and Alex. You made our vacation special.
Now for the not so good...
The beach is not a nice beach. Be very, very careful swimming there as there is a very strong undertow. Also swarming with people selling things, but not aggressively - security made sure of that.
The snack bar by the ocean that is open for lunch is AWFUL. Extremely sub-par food. They serve hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, etc. Do not waste your time.
We like to tip the staff for all their hard work and while we bought pesos in Canada, we didn't get enough small bills for tipping. This is the first resort we have ever been in where the front desk did not want to break larger bills into smaller ones. It's not like we were asking for currency exchange, simply breaking $500 peso bills into smaller denominations. We were rudely told that they were not a bank.
Even though this is an all inclusive, only 2 bottles of water were provided. Eventually we discovered that there were water dispensers in the hallways where you could refill them, but we were not told this. We were told that if we wanted extra water, we would have to go across the street and buy it.
And last but not least, the weddings..... During our 2 week stay, there were 6 weddings. Four of them had music blaring until the wee hours of the morning that was louder than a jet aircraft. Our room was in the back of the building facing the tennis courts and it was loud and clear even while wearing ear plugs. For this reason alone, I could not recommend this resort to anyone, nor would I stay there again. This was a complete disregard to most of the guests in the resort. It was terrible.
Apparently, the ownership had changed hands in 2022 and this information leads me to believe that they have perhaps decided to market more closely with the local market than tourists from abroad. This is, of course, their option, but I know that in future, my vacation dollars will be spent elsewhere.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Disappointed
We selected this resort due to the raving reviews on their FaceBook account but our experience was that we were very underwhelmed by this 5 Star Resort. The rooms were very run down. We had to call the front desk multiple times to request water and toilet paper that was I assume forgotten to be left when our room was cleaned.
The selection of food at the buffets was good and the variety of ah la carts available was plentiful and delicious.
We stayed at the adults only Sai’kan and found[... read more] that the entertainment was every evening and extremely loud until 10:30 -11 pm. There were some nights that we wanted a quiet evening and just could not have that. The entertainment was great just don’t think it needed to be that loud.

Playa Mazatlan: Great resort
This resort was beautiful place to stay and I had a great time. The shows and a la carte restaurants were excellent. One thing people who go should know though is most people, both other tourists and staff only speak Spanish and if you are an early morning person the pool doesn’t open till 9 and the gym 7.

Beach Palace: Relaxing week and excellent staff but...
My husband and I enjoyed our week at the Beach Palace. But there are pros and cons. The pros are, beach is amazing, views from the room, beautiful. Roof top view also spectacular! 24 hr Room Service excellent! Poolside and beach service (smokehouse)are nice options and the food provided is very good. They had calamari, wings, nachos hamburgers etc.The servers are topnotch and attentive everywhere! Special shout out to Alfredo at the sports bar,Tereza at the pool/beach service and our maid Luciera! Th[... read more]ey are an asset to the resort for sure! Coffee and Sweet shop also yummy. Top shelf liquor in all bars, personal products in room great quality (Chi) the rooms are large and the beds are very comfortable. Also very clean, even if a little dated. Mini bar well stocked and the app to order additional items is a plus.Night shows were ok, a little better and different than most we have seen at other all inclusives.
Now the cons, disappointing lobby,no atmosphere, filled with people selling, memberships excursions, souvenirs etc. Buffet lacking in options of food for breakfast and dinner.we always ate at the pool for lunch. A la cartes were not great. Limited options.Elevators are a little slow but not as bad as I expected. Only one type of beer at the bars, if you don't like Corona, and we don't you are out of luck. That was a huge disappointment! Too many kids in the sports bar. There should be a time when kids have to leave. Resort credits are not what they appear to be.You have to activate them at guest services which is just someone trying to sell you a membership. You still have to pay taxes after you activate so they are useless.Example...sunglasses at the shop are $200 USD,use your credits and still pay $32 USD. Just buy from the guy on the beach. Same quality but cheaper. Pools are small, swim up bar especially. Games at the pool are ok but they do not give prizes. And lastly be careful of the automatic donation charge to your room at check out. They tell you when you check in they are adding $10 to hold your credit card for incidentals but, it's actually a charge for their Foundation. They help the community and wildlife in the area with these donations which is a great thing but why not just tell the truth? I would donate if they were truthful. The way they just charge it is sneaky and you have to ask to have it removed,if you see it because they do not point it out. Even though we had a good week and the pros outweigh the cons,we would not return. The lack of food and beer options were a problem for us.

Planet Hollywood Cancun by Royalton: Loved Planet Hollywood
I visited Planet Hollywood on November 25, 2023 to December 2, 2023 with a friend. Loved almost everything about this place. The food was very good and there was 24 hour room service that was pretty quick compared to some other resorts we have been to.
We loved the rooms and all of the attention to detail. They had 2 separate closets with a 3 drawer chest, 2 separate areas to keep your suitcases, separate bathroom vanities with mirrors and hair dryers. The beds were super comfortable![... read more] The Hollywood theme touches in the room were very cool.
By the pool we had Milo as our server and he was amazing! Milo went above and beyond! Miguel at the buffet was also another person that stood out for his excellent service.
The entertainment on the majority of nights was fantastic!
The only complaint I have is that sometimes the restaurants were long to wait for. There are no reservations to be made except for the show at the Japanese. When we went to the Indian restaurant and checked in we were told it would be an hour but when we went back after an hour we were told it would be another hour! We felt that a 2 hour wait for 2 people was a little extreme so we went to the client services desk to voice our concerns. They were fantastic. We were escorted back to the Indian restaurant and he got us in within 15 minutes. In addition, they made reservations for the next 2 nights at a restaurant of our choice. And as a side note, when we did get in the Indian restaurant it was half empty and we were in and out within 25 minutes so not sure why the wait was so long.
Overall I was very happy with the resort and would definitely recommend it to my friends.

Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort and Spa: We love this property
We really love this property and have experienced it prior to it being the Hyatt. There is a lot to do for the kids and especially if you have little kids it’s the perfect size for them to walk everywhere. We brought our two year old and he loved being able to walk to and from the water slides, the beach, and all the amazing restaurants. We really enjoyed all the food and premium drinks along with the great service we received by a number of staff. To name a few Daniella from the preferred[... read more] lounge was incredibly knowledgeable and made excellent drinks, Yullisa the server who worked day and night was so sweet and incredibly kind! Alex, Alexandro, Eduardo and all the ladies and one gentleman from the roots cafe were all fabulous. The whole entertainment team was amazing and definitely put on awesome shows and really made it fun for everyone! Thank you! Ernesto from the pool bar made my favorite spicy drink EVER! Basically 10/10 whole resort! The enchiladas were amazing, terimissu, the pizza by the beach and I don’t even really like pizza! Lastly I’m so happy there was an amazing gym as I utilized it daily! Thank you, we will be BACK!
