This was my second time going to Mexico and he first time at this resort. After the first trip, I said I would never go back but glad I did. Had an amazing vacation and the resort was fantastic. Everyone was friendly and did everything to ensure your vacation was great.

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: A Great Time!
Met family from Nova Scotia at the Esmeralda. The resort had no problem giving us adjoining rooms which was perfect. Landscaping beautiful, beach was heavenly and the pools were great! The food was very good and the coffee was hot! Their Irish coffee’s were second to none!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Amazing resort!
Restort was great but with the amount of people I’d suggest more chairs around the pool and beach area. The beach also wasn’t the cleanest (seaweed, garbage, cigarette butts, etc). Overall we did have a blast and would return given the chance

Bahia Principe Escape Samana: FANTASIC VACATION
THE GOOD:--
FOOD, all buffets and al a carte excellent. A few morning buffets you could tell the main chef was off as the food was stale . SEAFOOD NIGHT WAS AMAZING. BRAZILIAN NIGHT AMAZING, DON PABLO amazing.
Room service food - NOT GOOD-not a wide selection and cold.
Last Day was a night mare. Our bus came for 7:30 am. We ordered breakfast night before. It came at 7:15am. An hour late. My husband is on meds that he MUST EAT. BUFFET IS CLOSED. Lucky for us bus was delayed
ROOMS- [... read more]We were in Building F , 2nd floor, wonderful view, good size, CLEAN CLEAN, I didn't hear there was a bad view or room in the place. As long as you have a view of the water it was great.
JR> SUITE:We had upgraded to the JR SUITE. Size was smaller than the Superior Suite with BAY VIEW. NOT SURE WHY? SEEMS everyone had butler service too. I can;t figure it out. I do not think you need the JR SUITE because the size is the same if not smaller. I do NOT know how you get the corner suites.
STAFF: ALL WONDERFUL - TO NAME A FEW
EVENING BUTLERS- Marisal, Claudia, Jennifer- thank you for the wonderful scents and turndown service
BULTER- Wanly- not sure I spelt that write. RM 2105 if that helps Management figure it out.
GLEN- getting us towels for our day trip when hut closed
ELENA- Hostess- I don't think she ever went home, what are sweet hear
JORGE MANUAL/JOSE wonderful Servers and Room Service
MASSAGE: Sorry I don't remember the ladies names, but it was wonderful!
POOL- nice , cosy, small, warm, just lovely- Im not going to mention the SEAT HOGS. They know who they are. Same group from Canada at every hotel south. LOL
BEACH: I loved it. SMALL is TRUE. But Soft , sandy, warm, clear water. LOTS OF GARBAGE FROM SHIPS EVERYDAY, STAFF KEPT IT CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. Nice area off to side to snorkel too.
THE BAD:
FRONT DESK STAFF- this is where you want the English speaking staff, Management. They were use less or atleast pretended to be. One guy didn't want to take to our BREAKFAST ORDER for the last day. They lead us on wild goose chases often. I will get to that later
ISOLATED AND MISREPRESENTATION ON THE WEBSITE:
I go to the websites for my information on properties before visiting. WHY? Because you would think this is the most updated information. At least better updated than the Tour Books. We knew the beach was small but we counted on 2 things to keep us physically moving here:
1) WATER SPORTS- kayak or wind surfing etc etc. THERE ARE NONE
2) WALK TO BEACH AND TOWN- both times we went to do this security stopped us FLAT. The road is too busy , the beach is polluted and both town and beach are unsafe. FOR $100 dollars US we could have taken a cab to town and they wait for us. Lots of wild dog packs in town.
SO YES FOLKS, IF YOU ARE LIKE ME AND NEED SOMETHING TO DO AT LEAST SOME OF THE TIME OTHER THAN SITTING ON BEACH AND SWIMMING DON'T COME HERE TILL THEY GET SOME WATER SPORTS.
ANDY , the sports DIRECTOR was totally confused and kept telling us one thing and then said Management responsibility
The "WE" Director,( GOOD HEALTH GUY) ignored us. I think his job is to sit on his computer all day
AND VICTOR( the Air Transat Rep) what a joke that was. After 3 days of explaining and explaining and explaining he decides that after our BOAT TOUR of the Los Hiatuses Nation Park , which was to end at 1pm, we would stay at the Island "Sister" Resort for lunch and Kayaking and other water sports. OF COURSE it was impossible to get a Kayak brought across the bay to our resort, even though the website and some of the tour books indicate there are water sports, and the front desk told us there were some too, they just didn't know where. LOL
Back to the story, We finally got the Island at 3:30 starved and said forget this and came straight to our hotel.WHY? Because the last shuttle was at 4:20pm
1) Victor- you sent us on a FULL day and not a HALF Day tour. LOL
2) Victor- you knew full well that we would not get to the Island till 3:30-4pm and would not be able to stay as the last shuttle comes back at 4:20pm.
3) Victor and the Management took no responsibility as usual in the DR for the advertising mistakes.
We were not the only guests that were upset over this.
So here is my advice: If you want a hotel that is clean, about 1 hours bus ride, small beach, sandy, warm, great service, small, great food, great bar service and drinks then come here.
If you want water sports or need a walk other than the treadmill , don't come here.
AIR TRANSAT: Please get your flight attendants with hair down to their butts to pin it up. I sat in the aisle seat row 1 fight TS2851 March 23 from Samana to Ottawa. The Asian Flight Attendant hair was in my food, my drinks and my face. Disgusting. She flung her head back and forth every time she walked by. I will go to their website to report this too.
AND FINALLY- As for those passengers that think they are going somewhere before the plan stops and the door opens. SIT THE "F" down till the plane stops and the SEAT BEALT SIGN GOES OFF. WOW HOW STUPID ARE SOME PEOPLE.
That's it folks.
GET WATER SPORTS AND I WILL BE BACK IN A HEART BEAT!
OH AND BEV JOHNSON FROM TRIP CENTRAL YOU ARE AMAZING. YOU WERE THERE BEFORE, AFTER AND DURNING MY TRIP. Thank you

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Love this place!
I stayed on the luxury side of the resort for a few days and loved it! The pools were great, miles of white sand beach, crystal clear water. The food was delicious, 24 room service included. My room was spacious and my balcony over looked the water. The night time entertainment was fun - karaoke and Michael Jackson impersonators were my favs. Can’t wait to go back! P

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Not for us
Our second time at a Bahia resort, for us this place was simply not what it said it was, this place is not for the average family. I will give it a 5 for cleanliness. Having to wait and take a tram everywhere is not my favorite part of a vacation. The food at the buffet was plentiful but was always on the cool side even when you where there when the doors opened. The bars were poorly stocked and ran out by noon of mix and rum. Service at the bar was slow and the staff were not very friendly. The[... read more]y could improve there English skills as most of the patrons were English. Pool and beach lounges were hard to come by early in the day. It has a well maintained beach and pool area, with over flowing garbage cans by mid afternoon. Vendors are easy to find in the beach areas. My last time to a Bahia resort,

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Second time at this resort, maybe better than our first!
This is our family's second stay at this resort. We have a 9 & 11 year old. We stayed for a week this March and the same time last year. We had an amazing time last year and we can hardly believe that this time was even better. We have been to many All Inclusive resorts in Mexico, Cuba and the DR and this one is near the top for value for money. Remember, you are on vacation and that the staff is doing their best at this resort to make everyone happy. The resort is about a 90 minute drive from t[... read more]he airport but totally worth it. This is a wonderful family resort. It is large but we like that, it means more options. The staff is what really makes this resort special. Everyone, from the reception, servers, gardeners, housekeepers, butlers, trolly drivers, beach workers, is extremely hardworking and friendly. The beaches do get a lot of seaweed but the crew works very hard starting very early to clean it up everyday. The best stretch of beach is in front of the Akumal. The swimming area is shallow so if you like to do a lot of swimming you might stick to the pools. The resort is gorgeous and grounds are very clean and well maintained. The variety of food at the buffet is excellent, something for everyone! We tried a few restaurants and were very happy. The butler service is great to help you book restaurants, tennis, and correct problems in the room. The resort has access to the other resorts in the chain, it is fun to check out the waterpark at Coba and the restaurants at Coba and Tulum. The transportation system is great, although we love walking and enjoyed checking out the other resorts while working off our big meals! The Tulum resort was under some construction so heads-up if you venture over there. We have nothing but great things to say about our vacation here and we have fantastic memories to last a lifetime. Special thanks to Jose for his exceptional service in the buffet, Angel for his service at the Mikado, Patricia who is super friendly at the dinner buffet, Pamela at the Spa, Jairo and Anibar at Grand Tortuga, and butlers Tony and Alex. You made our stay extra special! We would happily recommend this to anyone, great value for your money.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Great vacation with friends
It was my second visit at Ambar Green. We went with a group of friends. Had made request for second or third floor facing pool, we were very pleased with our room and the special attention and details as we were celebrating an anniversary. We were pleased with our À la carte reservations and dining. All staff were pleasant and accommodating, lots of fun at pool side with animation team. Planning on returning.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Another Fantastic Vacation at Bahia Principe Club Ambar
This is the fourth time we have vacationed at this resort. We keep coming back here because the service is beyond excellent. The resort is beautiful and the staff is wonderful. The beach is very nice and yes if you want to have a sun shade either on the pool or the beach you will have to get up early to get those ones but you will always have a seat/chair somewhere. Over all this is a very lovely resort and will definitely go back again.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Beautiful place
Our stay last year at Ambar Green went more smoothly than at this year Ambar Blue. The first three days our main door for our room did not automatically lock. Each time we had someone come, they would fix it , it would only work temporarily. After 3 days it was working properly. Even the safe malfunctioned on the second day, but got fixed after that. The food was really good, but A La Cartes were tough to get in from the every first night. Luckily our main restaurant always had good food anyway.[... read more] The resort was very clean and the staff was always so gracious to help when they needed. Bahia Principe Explore Legend: did not disappoint us
This was the second time on this complex, before we had been to the Esmeralda, but this time we chose the Fantasia mostly because it was designed for kids, including its own water park and theater, and because it is new. We found almost everything in the hotel was great, staff was wonderful, food was good, almost no complaints. A few thoughts that could be useful to others:
- the new gym between the Esmeralda and the Fantasia is great, with new good quality machines (treadmill, elliptical, s[... read more]pin bikes), weights area and lots of space for floor exercises. There is also a beach volleyball besides the gym.
- the beach is good, with an exclusive area for the Fantasia and an exclusive buffet restaurant also for the Fantasia besides it.
- access to all restaurants in the 7 hotels in the complex is also great, but be careful not to get reservations on the adult only restaurants at the Ambar hotels if you are travelling with kids. Also I recommend you give preference to the restaurants at the Fantasia, Esmeralda and Ambar, as they are somewhat better than the other ones. Finally, try to send your reservations for the restaurants before you get to the hotel, they will try to accommodate them and have them ready for you when you check in.
- bed was harder than we are used to, but they do have a pillow menu to choose from
- there is a large window between the bathroom and the room, it does have a curtain, but may be an issue for people sharing the room with their kids.
- there is a great teen club (for 13 and over), with pool table, foosball table, video games (xbox, ps4), a gym for teens, etc. Our son loved it.
- there is also a kids club (for under 12) with lots of organized activities.

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: At best average lacking quality
Just back from our trip and thought I would let you know a few facts so other customers hopefully do not have the save experience we did.
We had a great flight down arriving at 1215 but then things changed as we sat in the parking lot on our transfer bus for over 2 hours before starting to head to the resort. We arrived at 3:00 pm so that is check in no big deal except we did not get our room until 7:00 pm! When I asked what was going on the idiots could no longer speak English, go figure.[... read more] One small drink was offered. Then there was an issue with my oldest son as he was listed as a adult but they didn’t have the right bracelet. I found our air Transat rep who tried to help but apparently his hands were tied. So day 1 was a right off.
The water park is great if your kids are eight and under. Water is only a couple feet deep so bigger kids hit the bottom of the pool
The big pool was okay but my boys and I didn’t enjoy trying to swim and play only to watch young mothers breast feeding in the pool or changing diapers poolside or showering dirty bums in pool showers. They wonder why diseases are spreading at this resort, I wonder.
Housekeeping or lack thereof. Maids would come around at 9:30 pm (at night) to ask if you needed bathroom towels. One day beds were made but no blankets. One day beds made with only bottom sheet, no top sheet.
Food - was just okay. I say this because my spouse is really sick so weak she almost wasn’t allowed on plane.
Beach. Very nice. However the Fantasia section was always filled with guests from other resorts who were allowed stay. Which really bothered us considering security asked us to leave our chairs at the beach section for the next Bahia resort which was not adult only
The comments made on tripadvisor re hand foot mouth disease are true it’s there and now we are dealing with it despite taking steps to avoid it. Not impressed.
I am an early riser but was very disappointed that every morning I woke up to go for a walk only to have walk through smoke everyday as a result of the resort burning their garbage, again ridiculous.
Return trip. Left resort at 1000 hrs, Fairly decent except having to sit on the plane on the tarmac from 1:20 pm until 4:00 pm because the plane was missing 20 people. I realize things happen but wow. It didn’t help that my wife and son were very ill as well.
All in all I would rate this resort at best 3.5 and we will not go back. There were a few good parts but the bad certainly overshadowed.
Sincerely
Paul Mayhew.

Bahia Principe Explore Punta Cana: Not worth the money.
It was very clean and the grounds well maintained. The beach and pool area very nice. The rooms were ok. Here is what the downsides were. The staff could not speak English very well and had a hard time understanding what you wanted. (even the Air Canada rep) The food was hit and miss. Most of the time it was cold (even if you got there right when the buffet opened). The odd time you may have gotten hot food. The bar serve was poor. They were always running out of pop and rum at the beach bar by [... read more]early afternoon. I think they diluted the alcohol. The pool that had the gradual incline to the pool were the kids could play was right by the swim up bar. That was taken over by the young people. If you went to get a drink the bar staff would not watch of who was there first and catered to the young people. I had my granddaughters trying to get a soft drink and they just overlooked them finally a nice young lady yelled at them in Spanish and they got their drink. There were a group of man in the pool with a blow up lady doll which I think they should have been asked to remove it. Chairs were hard to get on the beach and pool area but we managed. The safe in the room did not work. The frig in the room did not keep anything cold and to get ice you had to go to the lobby which was either a tram ride or a 20 minute walk. The cleaning staff were not friendly at all. The waterpark was only good for maybe up to the age of 6 nothing for the older kids. The kids club was just a joke! I would not call this a family resort.
