Club Kawama: A little tired

My 91 year old father and I enjoyed our stay at kawama. Some of the rooms have seen better days, but my fathers room was spacious, had hot water, a working safe and was on the ground floor as requested. Although our accommodations were initially far apart, the staff went out of their way to get me closer to his room. The towels were clean, the staff very helpful and friendly. The food was about what you expect at a 3 star in Cuba, but the fruit, eggs, bread were great. Missing butter, wine, [... read more] pasta, but we were aware of shortages before we left. CUBA IS cuba, set your expectations before you leave. All in all, a clean, comfortable stay

Club Kawama: Horrible

Inedible food, very rundown and crumbling. Full of trip hazards. DO NOT GO HERE. This is by far the worst place I have ever stayed. 100% dump. Stay away from this roach motel. Disgusting experience on every level.

Hotel Villa Cuba: Potiential is there

Whats the right thing go do here. People/service are nice and beach is nice. It ends there. Building is rough, food just edible. I made the best of a bad situation. Ya get what u pay for. I dont like to talk badly, but its not good for a week vacay.

Club Kawama: Very nice resort

For a very old hotel it was clean and the staff were very friendly. The grounds were well looked after and the beach is amazing. We liked that the resort was close to other restaurants and the main market in Varadero

Club Kawama: Great service

No complaints …. Standard but service, food, beach was amazing . Massage on site, accommodating to change of room. Invitation to Restaurants in the area . Staff remembered my name, always a smile .

Hotel Villa Cuba: A decent resort

Our travel agent asked us if we were ok with a more budget friendly resort. We have been to Cuba many times so we weren’t really worried about a budget resort. Yes the hotel is on the older side but it wasnt too bad. We were warned about all the shortages but we didn’t find to many issues with that. Food was great. The normal options fish shrimp chicken pork rice and pasta. Staff was very friendly. Beach was great, much better than how cold the pool was. But over all it was good.

Club Kawama: Awesome time at a wonderful resort

Our room was right on the beach front. I could hear the waves at night which I find is truly relaxing. The employees were very kind and always there to help. There was entertainment every evening and very enjoyable to watch. (sometimes there was also entertainment in the day). There was always something to do (especially go to the beach or go for a walk to explore the area), and something to eat (as long as one is not too fussy) If you like simple condiments like butter, ketchup or mustard,,,I s [... read more]uggest to bring your own. We were in a superior room with lots of space and a safe to keep our valuables. The maid (s) were very friendly and helpful when we asked for more towels or toiletries. I will definitely be going to Kawama again in the future. (April -2024 already booked) I will be in a standard room my next time and I am sure it will be as enjoyable as my first time.

Club Kawama: REALLY?!?

All hotel guests noticed the ABSENCE OF SOAP AND SHAMPOOS in their rooms and the shortage of TOWELS ALL SORTS (hands, bath, beach). Some were irrate other amused by this situation. Staff has good sense of humor and patience. Most of the food was edible. The service good, although some shortage of coffee and other beverages. Best feature of the hotel is the other guests, very easy to meet people. Hotel grounds and location very good. Walkable distances to everything.

Club Kawama: Okay resort..

The hotel was not good at all. But that was expected for a low star hotel. I didn't really care for the facilities. More so the beach, the people and the exploring. It was fine to sleep. Not to eat or stay hydrated. Our fridge never had any water. You couldn't find water bottles anywhere. Drinks and snacks were few and far between. The cleaning wasn't really cleaning with our dirty towels being folded up to reuse. It wasn't comfortable for necessities but ok to sleep.

Club Kawama: You get your money's worth

This was our 6th visit to Kawama. We know that this is a 3 ⭐️ and know what to expect. The rooms are outdated. The buffet is so so. The A la carte dinners are much better and offer a higher quality of food. There are days when some food and drinks are not available but this happens all over cuba. On the up side, the beach is truly amazing. There are 2 pools. The staff go above and beyond to make your experience at their hotel a pleasant one. There are many repeater customers. August was not [... read more] a good time to go. The temperature was extremely hot and most of the customers were locals on vacation . This hotel is close to many restaurants on the main street and a few steps from the double decker bus. The currency rate appears to change every other day. Best to exchange money on the ride to your hotel and at the market. Avoid the bank. Better to bring loonies and twoonies and $5's. Tipping a$5 bill is a lot right now. The staff may ask you to change the coins into dollar bills. Remember to bring new bills without folds or rips. All in all we really enjoy this hotel and have made many friends over the year. Best time to go is between November and April. Enjoy!

Hotel Inglaterra: Incredible hotel

So historic and beautiful, well maintained and very clean. Mattress was new and extremely comfortable. AC was cold, staff was excellent and hotel was in the most central location possible. Would absolutely return.10 +

Hotel Villa Cuba: Unfortunate

I love the cuban people, And it's such a beautiful country, So I wouldn't want to leave a review that makes things worse. Unfortunately things have changed since the pandemic, it's bad! This was my 2nd time at this resort, the last time was 5 years ago, things have changed significantly. The food is much worse, way less options. All I can say, it seems as if the wonderful soul of the Cuban people has been completely trampled. Not a smile, not even 1 happy person. I feel horrible slamming them, but this was by far the worst vacation I've ever had. I have very realistic expectations for Cuba, but they took away all the go to items. No fries, or hot dogs or pizza, no burgers, just an incredibly sad buffet. The room was in horrible disrepair smelled of raw poop, and had mild everywhere. Until the Cunban government allows the Cuban people to shine their spirits again, I'd avoid Cuba all together. I spoke to people staying at much nicer resorts that spoke of the exact same issues on my bus. There is no difference from the most expensive place to the cheapest place except for slightly nicer property, The government has literally ruined destination and worse, Ruined the beautiful spirits of its people. I was almost moved to tears, seeing a resort I stayed at only 5 years ago, in such a state. It was dark and raining whe I checked in, I was told a room number and pointed in a general direction. It took me 3 trips back to the lobby soaking wet, and 40 minutes to find my room. The signs were all blank from the name change, and it was not a great start. SUNWING has also declined alot, no food service anymore. And the flight times horrible, arrive passed dinnertime and no food on plane, almost a whole day no food, and then departure is so early u miss breakfast b4 your shuttle, and snow food on plane. Basically 2 days of ur trip you're expected not to eat. My maid was amazing, her name was Milady, she was the only person who seemed to hold onto what used to be. I spent some time talking to some cuban locals and they confirmed everything I am saying. That things were never great in cuba, But they've never been this bad. It's a cuban Doesn't start doing trade and opening up the market so that the cuban people Can sustain themselves, I fear the absolute worst for its people. I have been to cuba nine times, And sadly I would not return even if it was free. The mold in my room caused me to develop a very bad respiratory illness on my last day, I've been home 2 days and coughing non stop, doctor says I have Atypical pneumonia, from either mold or bacteria. My legs are destroyed from sand flea on beach, big what look like burns. It was wet season so it rained an hour here or there, but they had no staff to squeegee the puddles, so there were puddles everywhere on the paths and near the rooms, causing me to get probably 100 misquoto bites, all while they have a huge Denge Fever and Zika outbreak. The food was honestly a 2/10, rooms 3/10, property 4/10, and service 2/10. Overall, a generous 3/10. It honestly pains me to say this, But spend the extra little bit of money and had to the dominican republic instead.

Club Kawama: Great beach experience

The beach was a great location because it was easy and convenient to access. The food is not the reason for vacationing at this resort. The room while tidy was not equipped with towels and customer service was lacking .

Hotel Villa Cuba: Cockroaches and Rude Cubans

I don't know if you have ever been to this resort but your best bet is to stay away! All carriers are selling it for a 3+ STAR but it is a 2 and that is being generous! The grounds are beautiful and that was it! The food was a 2 and I know what I'm talking about because I have been there over 30 times! This resort is overrun by RUDE so called RICH CUBANS ( as the employees tell us) they even dislike like them but they get the best of everything! I can't tell you how many we killed on the floor on our chairs and table! It was so bad that we couldn't eat there! We would take hard bread back to our room to eat .. We only had butter in the morning. No milk some days for tea or coffee . No toast! You could not take a child down there for a week because there would be not for them to eat except rice. Our bathroom in our villa the toilet ran for almost the whole 2 weeks we were there and every morning our room was soaked with water everywhere! I have pictures of the cockroaches, the toilet and other things. You need to change your rating on the and others to a 2! This place is disgusting!!!! 🤬 For what we paid I feel Air Transat should reimburse us something! I haven even told you about the Cubans and how bad it was! By the way my travel companion was sick for 4 days and couldn't get out of bed. She is still sick here at home and I betting it's due to the cockroaches and fly shit all over the food! I would appreciate any kind of email from Air Transat! By the way the Air Transat Rep was there for 2 days and when we complained to him he was the new guy . He also told us that the Cuban people have already shut down to resorts already and he thinks that Hotel Villa Cuba is next! Be Live Experience Varadero is now bankrupt so we are told .. Hotel Villa Cuba: Resort has gone completely downhill

We have been going to this resort since 2003 and over the last few years it has been going down hill but this time was the worst…. the Richer Cubans are given priority in Villas, especially with pools, the beer at the pool bar was watered down with soda, the buffett was completely loaded with cockroaches…our rooms were cleaned daily but the sheets were definitely stained, our toilet leaked from the tank and we reported it… nothing was done… we had to put towels on the floor around the to [... read more]ilet to not fall or slip in the water, the re was a Canadian return patrons dinner that was put on by the public relations department … the dinner was lovely but the public relations person basically sat at 1 table all evening and didn’t even ask at the end of the evening if a good time was had… she basically ignored the rest of the patrons… the ramps to the beach are being slowly replaced but are very unsafe… many of the staff have been at this resort for years and become our friends… they also see that their resort is not good but they are not able to say or do anything about it… it is a very sad situation

Good service nice people nice entertainment Good location I will go back there.The hotel is very nice and clean ,the food is ok for this difficult time for everyone, but for myself the food isn't really important, the atmosphere around the weather the people

Hotel Inglaterra: less than an amazing hotel

Fantastic location, that's it. Bed, room, balcony are all too small for 1 person, let alone 2. Most staff are indifferent at best, with a few that are excellent. I stopped going to the rooftop bar because of difficulties with the staff. I stopped going to the outdoor cafe after they continuosly ignored me or just flat out didn't bring my order. I used to go to the Inglaterra, as a visitor, on my every trip to Cuba. But as an actual guest, I've lost any desire to ever return. The Telegrafo Hotel next door is newly renovated and appears to be a far superior choice in every comparable aspect.

Club Kawama: Great Getaway.

Club Kawama is beautiful and has much to offer eg.right on the ocean, large swimming pool,plentiful food and refreshments.Every evening we had some of the best entertainment I’ve ever seen.People here are friendly,and I felt safe.The downside is our private toilet did not flush when we arrived, the lid was resting against the wall, and the seat was unattached but resting on top of the toilet.After we complained,water was hooked up and the rest was rectified by removal and we sat on the porcela [... read more]in of the toilet. Club Kawama: Terrible

Sadly we have to say that this trip was terrible. Simply we love the antiquity of this resort but there was nothing but problems . No hot water for 13 days!! No beach towel exchange for 6 days. Only room towels available were 2 small 12 x 24 inch towels for 2 people. Safe did not work. Lack of food items is not a major issue.as we understand the lack of commodity in this country....but broken toaster in main dining room took 7 days to fix. Club Kawama: The friendliest resort

I very much enjoyed my time at Kawama. I have been to this resort over ten times and will keep returning. I have made so many friends and we continue to talk after the vacation is over. The staff are always amazing just like family. The food is average but they still has shortages like butter, condiments and cheese and certain items.Cuba has and is in difficult times but always greets you pleasantly with s smile. I am a very loyal guest and I will continue to return to this resort. It was such a pleasure and the only changes I would make would be to entertainment. Changes would be to bring back the Rock bands, Karaoke and better entertainment in the day like games and events.Renovatios are in progress and I can't wait to see the completion. Thank you Kawama, I am a content and happy to enjoy the resort again. I am looking at the first two weeks of April 2024.
