Worst resort ever!

The check in process was absolutely horrible. I went with my 62 year old mother and had to carry two 50 lb bags up 3 flights of stairs when we had previously requested the ground floor. There was no selection of food at this resort. The toasters were broken for three days before anyone replaced them. The cleaning staff didn't leave any towels in our room at all do we had to call daily and wait hours just to take a shower. We went 4 days without any water in our room and when we called they told  [... read more]us they would bring some up and never did. The room next to us was robbed! Safe broken into and room trashed. When they called security, security asked if they were drinking emplying it was their fault and noone else's. The service was horrific! At breakfast we were not offered any coffee or water or juice. When we asked for it, it came when we were finished. It's a shame as the grounds were nice and the pool bar staff were lovely. But everything else negates this! I am not a happy traveler.

Resort is Okay

The resort is Okay. Nothing really stands out in my opinion. The rooms was ok, the food is ok but not great. The only way I would book this resort again is if I got an amazing deal. The best part of the resort is the beach.

If they have the chance to disapoint you they will

First the positives: The grounds were beautiful. Kids loved the ducks and turtles on the property. The size was convenient, it felt easy to navigate but not too small. Beach was great, with lots of loungers and places to play. Wide enough to not feel crowded, long enough to go for a beachfront walk. Food was decent, and the drinks that are included in the package are all well made. Most bar staff will do what they can to help you. A La Carte restaurants were excellent, and food overall was ok.  [... read more] Negatives: Privelege was a waste of money. Trying to get enough towels in a day to your room was very painful. Calling front desk, leaving notes in Spanish (with $5 USD tips) and many other ways, always left us disappointed with house keeping. The pillows and mattresses were terrible. Getting room service was very difficult as well. The rooms were just ok, still basic, although some of the higher number buildings that have been renovated to privilege had slightly nicer rooms. No bottled water poolside or at restaurants, no wait service poolside. The Pizza place is always running out, this system should be revisited. A general feeling at the resort of if you want anything above and beyond their basic offerings, it won't happen. I wouldn't go back, for a few hundred dollars more a person, you can get substantially more in Punta Cana. OR for a few hundred less, the same in Cuba.

Nice resort

Grounds were nice and well kept disappointed with the workers hardly any spoke English when we tried to have a conversation they would look at us no reply in the dining area some acted like we were bothering them not sure if we would recommend because of the language barrier not the best beach

Okay resort

Resort is huge! Nothing is close by. The grounds are well kept and clean. Wish they would spend time taking care of the rooms as they do the grounds. The buffet offered a variety of foods, which was good. But everything was very salty. The ala carte restaurants was good, except Terrace. Not recommended! Staff at the resort needs to be given some training in being friendly and inviting. Found the staff preferred not to speak English and pretended they could not understand what was being said. Roo [... read more]ms in the family section if the resort is less desirable. The toilets do not flush, the water in the face sink does not drain, the stand up shower gets flooded while showering. There are not enough towels in the rooms and housekeeping cleans only what the eye can see. Our washroom mirror had stains all over and was never cleaned. My headboard was made of rattan and was filled with dust. The linens was not being changed so I had to leave a note for housekeeping to change it. The fridge in the room is a waste if time, it was not keeping anything cold. The pool is ok but do not expect pool towels. Be careful using the cups at the pool. The bar people basically dipped the cups in water and called rhat washing it. I got "washed" cups with lipstick stains. We went 2 days without pool towels and was skeptical to use our room towels because we were not sure if we'll get new ones. The beach is awful. Full with seaweed. No one day we could've use the beach. Be very careful of the West Jet tour guide for Saona Island. We took this tour and he actually took off leaving 8 people on the beach. Just by chance someone saw him with some of the people leaving we had to hurriedly gather our stuff and run to catch up with him. In the weekend the resort is taken over by the locals, who got preferred treatment. Was there anything good i can say about this resort.....the grounds were well kept. This vacation I was counting the days I had to leave and get back home.

Hotel Nightmare

This hotel rooms needs revamping and the staff needs training on how to accommodate the guest. Upper management needs to be more responsible for handling the staff working under their leadership. We did a day trip via the West Jet agent and they forgot to tell us they were leaving. Thank God one of the girls noticed and ran for about 10 mins to catch up with the guide to let him know we’re were coming. We don’t pick money from a tree we work dam hard. There were so many issues with the rooms for members in our party. Towels were limited, leaks and clogged shower and toilet. Being Locked out of your room the safe won’t open it was just to frustrating

Punta Cana

Catalonia Bravo resort is not what I expected. Would like to get back my money. Poor service and room was deplorable. Bathroom area too small. Had to beg for them to change towels. Door key would not work. Keep having to go to front desk to get another 😒

NOT an amazing hotel

The rooms were very poor furniture damaged. AC leaking water all day. Safe rusty and not working. Shower flooding drain not clearing water. Tub large duty stain. Did not use it. There was a large crab like bug in closet. I was stressed and fustrated .It took 1.15 mins for someone to come. I used a tiwel at the door to block and bugs.They egnored me when I asked to be move. Food good. I would like my money back or a % of it

Dated resort rooms need upgrading

Worst vacation ever, shout out to Kenia, very pleasant hostess, made you feel welcome with her smile and warm hug. Ask for 2 beds, got a king size and a cot. When my sister ask for another bed, associate at check in said none was available , but it's ok because he can fit on the cot. Beach towels was a no show if you got there after 11am. Not the best unfortunately!

We have travelled the Caribbean well over 20 times. We have been to DR 3 times. We were going with a large group and this resort was chosen for us already. Many of us suffered from horrible food poisoning after eating at the italian restaurant. Everyone that had the chicken that night. Those who were sick were in their rooms for 1.5 days wasting their vacation and were still under the weather and not able to fully enjoy things for several days. We witnessed many unsanitary conditions when it c [... read more]ame to food where visible, I could only imagine what was happening behind closed kitchens. Raw meats being cooked on open grills (chicken especially concerning) using the same tongs to handle raw meats as to serve the customers cooked foods with. Birds being allowed to walk all over food in the buffet and seeing feces on fruits. I'm sure this country has health regulations but they were not following them here. I'm sure many other visitors have fallen ill as well. Only about 50% of the staff was happy in any way to be there working. Only in Dominican have I experienced this. No towels, no hot water for 2 days. Electrical wires exposed outside my children's room. Never again will I go back to this country or book this resort chain again. I feel very ripped off we lost 1.5 days of vacation due to illness and experiences many other inconveniences considering the money we paid for this resort. Star rating should be lower until they step it up!

Nice beachfront

Shallow entry into water and nice beach. Room 1803 very nice location close to the beach and buffet. The room needs to be updated. The bathroom faucets and makeup mirror are very worn but we were willing to compromise for the ideal location

Beautiful well kept resort

The best about this resort was the staff. They were all very friendly and accommodating. Loved the beach bar and their staff. Afternoon entertainment amazing. Alacart restaurants great. Pool beautiful and grounds keepers constantly working to maintain lovely plants and flowers. Would revisit next year. The servers at buffet restaurants were awesome and very welcoming. Pizza by the pool a big hit with our group of 12.

Amazing Trip, Great Hotel

We travelled as a group of 12 and we all had an amazing time. The resort grounds are stunning, the beach is beautiful. The ocean was calm and very swimmable (bring water shoes though). Food was decent, the stir-fry station in the buffet was so good. The a-la-cartes were pretty good too, a few had some hit-or-miss meals (an overcooked steak one night etc.). The lobby bar and the Pure Chill Out bar in the privileged beach section had the best drinks. All of the staff were very helpful and fr [... read more]iendly, probably one of the best resorts for service in the buffet section I've been to in a while. The only minor cons were water pressure in the showers, and you really had to play around to figure out how to work the hot/cold to get it just right, and the room thermostats are set to not get cooler than 25 degrees. Our room was 28 the first night. Some of our party though had rooms around 19! We also golfed 4 times, the staff there were also great. The courses are beautiful, it was a great experience.

Good family resort

Hotel was good for family vacation Privileged Rooms were nice, clean and spacious Over priced for privileged for what you get. Really other than the room and a section of the beach for privileged not much else is offered. Food at the buffet was average not great. A la carte restaurants were average. Steakhouse wasn’t good as I was looking forward to it they burnt my steak and I told them and they returned another burnt one. Japanese restaurant was the best one. Beautiful resort

The grounds were beautifully kept. All the common areas were clean and well maintained. Food was excellent with a wide variety and plentiful. Staff was very friendly. We were coerced into a "welcome breakfast" where we were forced to listen to the "benefits" of being a Privileged Member and to belong to the Catalonia brand of resorts. It was a waste of a beautiful morning and very very annoying. The internet did not work in our room but it was tended to within the hour of us reportin [... read more]g it. It was fixed the next day. The beach was clean and there were lots of shaded spots to stay out of the direct sun. We always found chairs so no need to try to save a seat. Around the pool was different. No chairs to be had in the shade. Lots of "reserved by towel" chairs. The room was clean but well worn so could use some updating. Too few outlets, some of which were linked to the switches. We had a leak in the ceiling but again, it was tended to within the hour of us reporting it and it was immediately fixed. There was mold on the curtains and my pillow as stained yellow beneath the pillowcase. The appearance of our room was the most disappointing part of our stay.

It’s OK

Grounds are beautiful but huge. Map given was black and grey, couldn’t read it, fumbled for 2 days. Did not get the room we asked for, although did get a bottom floor. Basically told too bad. Food in the 2 buffets was excellent. Steakhouse, the steak was terrible. Couldn’t chew it. Rooms kept clean. Like a $5 tip left on the pillow. For privileged, we didn’t see anything privileged except a space on the beach which you could never get a seat at. No high end liquor at the bar, no desi [... read more]gnated areas, same service as regular pricing. Paid extra for nothing. Employees very friendly, not much English, but they try. Took 3 days to get an extra blanket, clock didn’t work, never did get a new one, no washcloths, take your own. Very loud beach bar that keeps you awake till at least 1 a.m. on the weekend with the thumping. Entertainment sucked at night and didn’t start till 9:30.

Great Resort

The people at this resort are wonderful! The pool, washrooms and grounds are very clean and really lovely. Beach is gorgeous and lots of chairs. Open air eating at beach buffet for breakfast and lunch. Main buffet is edged with water and very nice. Food at buffet could have been hotter as with a lot of places, but we stuck with the chicken/beef stir fry and pasta and grilled meats so they would be hot and were very good. Very nice

The Resort was very clean. Food was good Service was good but had to call a couple of times to get our room cleaned. The only thing we didn’t like was the very very loud boom boom “noise”. Music coming from the Pearl beach public pool / Restaurant building. I am not sure if it was part of this resort but they would blast the so called Music from noon until 7 pm and one night until 1 am. You also can hear this noise on the beach. We were in Building 15. And I am sure all the buildings o [... read more]n this side could hear the noise. If we wanted to have nap in our room or the beach the Boom Boom was very annoying.

Great resort!

Very very nice, extremely clean, friendly staff in all respects. Just not a fan of pressuring vendors a few nights a week. We will recommend family and friends, hopefully too to travel with as well. Great location with workers always cleaning the beach! Amazing!

First time in a long time

We went to the Catalonia Bavaro Golf and Beach resort, Check in was easy but i do not understand why they want all guest to come back and check in a 3pm, it makes for a rush at the counter at that time. The front check in staff all spoke good English, The front lobby bar was awesome, Sarah, Icelia Nicole and Kelvin were fantastic there was another male manager there but forgot his name, he was great as well. We ate breakfast and lunch most times at the Pool restaurant Maria at the counter of the pool restaurant always greeted us with a smile, Yanny was our server and took care of us most times though we would try to go a different server in the morning to spread the wealth around. The a la carts were good we went to them almost every second night as we found the main buffet was very repetitive. Overall we had a great time
