Worst Resort in Cuba

Terrible hotel doesn't even have the basic amenities figured out. No Running water, No A/C, bed bugs, problems with lack of batteries for the in-room safes. Drinking water promised every day to be provided in the room, didn't get a bottle once even after asking multiple times. Way below even standards in Cuba. An entire building block had no running water while we stayed there. Some rooms are infested with bed bugs, we were unfortunate enough to start with one of those rooms. After 3 terrible days in this supposed 4 star resort we were finally moved 2 resorts down to the Grand Imperial Muthu from MGM. We'll never book a vacation in another Melia run hotel. The Air Transat Rep for the Hotel (Frank) is possibly the worst rep we've ever encountered, argumentative, arrogant and accuses customers of lying when you bring concerns up. Tours organized by Frank are terrible and not worth purchasing. Any problems that arise he dissolves himself of accountability.

Just alright

This resort was having major water and a/c issues. Although, it affected us minimally (room 2308), others had no hot water or a/c. As always, the staff and beach are fabulous. The food was ok. The public spaces were kept very nice. Unfortunately, the women's bathroom near the pool had no running water. Couldn't flush. The poor lady had to keep dumping water with a bucket down to keep them clean. DON"T GO !!!

The grounds were nice and the staff were great. The place was run down and the sheets were stained. Almost had to beg for coffee pods for the room. The resort was only one third full and it ran out of baileys and whiskey for two days. We have traveled a fare amount and this was the worst food we ate, we lost weight when we came home. Sand flee bites us all week. The only thing that was great was the beach. Seagull shit on the back of the lounge chairs around the pool, told the manager so they cl [... read more]eaned them but some of it was still on them.

Amazing resort!!!!

Nothing but AMAZING!!! We liked everything about it. The beach was absolutely gorgeous - wide with white send like a powder. Ground of the hotel beautiful with lots of palm trees. All staff very friendly. All of them speaking good English. We would go back for sure ;)

Amazing week!!

Had an amazing week. The resort was clean and maintained, room cleaned every day. Enjoyed the fact that they have a 24 hours snack bar and lobby bar. Beach was cleaned and cleaned up every morning. Food was delicious and something for everyone, even for my youngest who is very picky.

Melia Cayo Guillermo Is My New Cuban Home

I have been travelling to Cuba for a number of years now to enjoy some the great scuba diving there. During this time, I have really come to appreciate and rely on the quality of service at the Melia chain of resorts. Recently I stayed at Melia Cayo Guillermo and was very impressed on all counts. The staff are very approachable, attentive and responsive to the guests.You will quickly feel like special family that has returned home during your visit. During my stay, there were a number of people that I would love to thank including the staff in Reception, the Quality Manager, the servers in the Buffet and snack bar along with the wonderful people that worked behind the scenes taking care of the details that help to make your stay the best. Food is fantastic... Best I have had in Cuba !! Scuba Diving ---- Beyond incredible !!!! Just so much marine life that everywhere you look. The dive staff at Coco Diving is one of the best and I highly recommend them and the sites as must visits regardless of experience level. If you are interested in trying, you will be treated to an experience that you will be smiling about for some time after. If you are a seasoned diver, such as myself, you will also thoroughly enjoy the quality of diving and the competence of the staff. I do have to say that this trip to Melia Cayo Guillermo is the best I have ever had and will be back in the coming months for more. Great beach, clean resort and good food!!

Incredible beach and super location.Staff is excellent is all area's, good service and good food.Rooms a little tired, but spacious, clean and safe. This was my 2nd time here and it wont be my last. An excellent location for those who want the sun, sand and relaxing atmosphere. ,

Decent resort

Arrival at the resort is quick from the airport, check in was fairly speedy. However, as a group of 8, one of the rooms had been stripped and still had belongings from the last people inside when we checked in. This was quickly cleared up. Bar service was good, could use a few more servers as it was sometimes slow when it got busier in the lobby. Food overall was not bad, I am picky and managed to find something everyday. The staff where great, the lady in the towel hut was accommodating to allow us to keep our fishing gear there, close to the beach so as not to lug it around. The guys at the lunch bar went above and beyond in preparing a snapper we caught off of the pier for our lunch, was amazing. And the folks in the buffet also prepared a table and some wahoo that we caught for us and made a big deal about it. The chef in the international restaurant made a gluten free cake for us with ingredients we brought and provided champagne for a birthday celebration. So, staff go above to make sure you are happy. The rooms could use some updating, most of our safes did not work, tried to have it fixed but with no luck. Toilets didn’t flush well and very little water pressure in our room, but it was reasonably clean. Decent place for the money.

Another wonderful trip

We just love this resort. This was our sixth trip to Cayo Guillermo. It is starting to feel like a second home. It is a smaller resort, so you are never far away from any of the amenities. The staff are simply fantastic. You are always met with a smile, whether it be the General Manager, a gardener, a life guard or servers. All staff seem to genuinely care about your satisfaction. Food quality is above average for Cuba. The rooms are clean and everything worked as it should. The infrastructure is a little older but we here that renovations are coming. We have always felt completely safe here. On or off the resort. We will be back!

My best Cuban resort

It was the best resort I went too, Edel our waiting was amazing!! He was always ready for us and helped with everything we needed (including set up for friends bday, and perpare fish we caught). It’s the best fishing resort. Everyone was friendly. The food the same, but enough supplies to change it up now and then. I’m a picky eater but had more then enough to eat. Staff was super friendly.

Try to avoid this place

Room, where I've been, was infected with bedbugs. I am not the only one bitten by those creatures in the hotel. Hotel doesn't have any kind of entertainment (no live music, no show ...) and they have shortages of every kind of beverages.

Good Hotel

Stayed week of Sept 13th-20th Check in was long as they only had one person doing check in and 29 people arrived at the same time. We requested three rooms together which we did get not side by side but all on the same floor. This hotel does not have elevators and our rooms where on the second floor there are 54 stairs you need to climb to get to your rooms. Bathr [... read more]ooms need a lot of work most times we had to fill the tank with water to get the toilet to flush we had someone come to the room to fix but it did not help with the problem. One day the shower gave no cold water only hot which burned your skin we had someone come again to take a look at it, this time it was fixed, water pressure is not the greatest. All our rooms faced the pool which has a great view and I would recommend. Fridge in room is stocked with one water, two beer and two pop. was not always replenished as used Outside Grounds- Kept nice, clean well taken care off. Pool area needs a complete over haul all the lining at the bottom of the pool is torn and lifting this is not in one area it is most of the pool did it stop us from going in no not at all. Layout of hotel is great not to big and has a amazing beach however the beach was not raked for seaweed. Lots of chairs by both beach and pool Hotel need to put lights on stairs as it is hard to see when climbing the 54 stairs at night and a little dangerous. Restaurants- Pool bar is open 24 hours so if you get to the hotels late you can get food and drink there. When we arrived they had no beer which was replaced for the next day. We ate at buffet most times as there was a good choice of food. For the A La Carte we did not have a choice of days we wanted to go it was Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday and they only had one open each night and the food was just ok. By the end of the week the hotel had run out most drinks every time you ordered a drink from the menu you could not get. No cola, no white sugar, no juice. Staff was just making up drinks to try to accommodate Staff what can I say they were wonderful always smiling and ready to help with all your needs, this is what makes the hotel. The manager of the hotel can always been seen. Currently staff works a double shit 7am till 11PM one day on one day off this is due to gas shortage going on in Cuba. Entertainment- None they had a bingo night, Cuba trivia night and the last night there a dance troop came in All in all we had a good time its what you make of it. I am not sure if I will go back in the near future due to the their current situation as I think its going to get worse before it gets better. Also the exchange rate is high 100.00 CDN was 69 CUC

Great resort

I was there in June for 12 days and had a great experience with my husband and friends. The best service was from manager Carlos. Very nice and have Ben many times to Cuba and never met a manager who cares about the guests so much. Thank you so much for a great time. See you again.

Melia cayo Guillermo paradise on earth

This hotel was way more than we expected! The grounds are beautiful. They are lush and full of green and the beach is absolutely breath taking. The staff are amazing and make you feel so welcome! We loved the lobby bar there is entertainment nightly and the service was outstanding! We will be back for sure. !!! This is a five star for sure!

Beautiful Resort

Grounds: Very well kept. Public Areas: Very clean and neat. Ample seating at lobby, and ample lounge chairs at the beach. Rooms: Spacious and clean, bed is comfortable. Dining: Variety of food, something for everyone. By Cuban standard, food is very good. Staff is very courteous, friendly and helpful, service with a smile all the time. Nice resort close to fishing pierced

Melina Cayo Guillermo is a nice quiet resort with a beautiful beach and amenities. As this is Cuba the food is basically the same every day but one can usually pick out something to eat. Very nice property but the units and buildings can certainly use some updating, however this may be a constraint of being in Cuba. The public area bathrooms are well kept.

We enjoyed a 7 day vacation here in March 2019 and had a great time. Our room was clean and had a great view of the ocean and we only experienced some minor issues with the toilet. The a la carte meals were excellent however there could have been improvements with the atmosphere for these. The main buffet had a great selection of fresh food with many cooks at stations ready to prepare the dish to your liking. We didn't have any issue finding chairs on the beach and the beach entertainment was great and they had their volume (for music) at a respectable level. The resort entertainment was excellent, especially in the lobby. The theatre shows were a bit repetitive and they need to encourage more engagement from the crowd (more interactive shows). The pool bar was very disappointing as there wasn't a bartender dedicated to it and the amount of noise and water from the overhead waterfall was annoying. The pool liner was ripped however they have plans to replace it. There is a ton of maintenance taking place at the resort and they have made excellent improvements since the hurricane. The health bar with fresh smoothies was awesome and Alejandro was so personable.

Magical Place!

Melia Cayo Guillermo was an amazing experience! The staff is so nice, fun and friendly. The grounds and beach are beautifully kept. The Buffet food was very good and always different and the a la cartes were absolutely amazing. The pool and beach had many beach chairs, papalas, umbrellas so we always had a place to sit, and the boardwalk was so nice to sit on during the day or night.
