Was alright, better than -40C!!

Be prepared for lotssssssss of walking, as well as plenty of steps and angled ground. We didn't mind it too much, got our exercise in! The rooms were good. The cleaning ladies will help themselves into your room and start knocking on the bathroom door even if you're in there. And do not disturb basically means don't walk in just keep banging on the door. Be prepared to never sleep in either. Mine was that bad I had to see a medic and get an IV and drugs. Also note!! You can get a taxi to a pharmacy (or they deliver to the resort during day hours) and you'll pay pennies compared to what the hotel medic charges for the same thing. You don't need prescriptions in DR, so anything you want you can get (and stock up at home!!). Lesson learnt after a $700 doc visit. We went to a pool once, there are many pools scattered throughout, all seemed decent. The beach was meh. But we didn't care, it's better than -40C at home. First day we got there we had no hot water but they fixed it the next day. All In all it was good. Probably would try a different resort instead.

Attended for business conference gone bad LSC

We booked months in advance as a large company and were very very disappointed!! Two notes before the review- the event staff and coordinator were amazing but not related to the resort. The staff friendly but.,,As one of the senior event attendees - my room - the most basic of things that you need to travel, shower did not work, nothing in fridge, toilet paper not replaced, coffee maker did not work, one bottle of water that would not open, safe broken, mold everywhere in room, I had to pay to  [... read more]go to the spa just to get a shower and toilet paper!!! Unacceptable, I am not picky but shower toilet paper toilet and coffee required. Asked numerous times not addressed. No Wi-fi, members of our large group got severely ill and when asked for help were made to walk to the lobby while projectile vomiting. We are going to be seeking refunds or legal action

Awful experience!!!!!!!

Cracked tub, door that doesn't lock, no hot water, 2 hour+ check in, sewage flies, sewage smell early a.m and evening. Cracked tub - literally the entire tub Cracked. When you wouod shower, it felt as though you were going to get tetanus from a cut or break the tub *complained to Manager, nothing resolved* Door - locked some times, other times didn't. Thank goodness we didn't travel with expensive items. No hot water - literally freezing cold. Certain times of day were luke warm, some f [... read more]reezing cold. The tub didn't even drain! Absolutely disgusting. 2 hours + check in - we arrived at 1 PM. Waited in line for 1.5 hours, until 230 PM only to be told "your rooms are not clean" so heres the bracelet, feel free to enjoy amenities but leave your bags at the front (where anyone can take from). Sewage flies - first time showering my 5 y.o (Who is terrified of bugs, cried the entire shower), 5 sewage flies swarm her. Which if you research sewage flies, are not hygienic. This is where they are commonly from...slow or clogged drains, rarely used and unused toilets, refrigerator drain pans, and standing water created by leaking pipes. We typically saw 3-5 of them per DAY!!! Sewage smell - this is a smell one can never, ever forget. I'm 99% sure why we all had vomiting, and diarrhea 2-3 of the days we were within this resort. We often witnessed waitresses going to the bathroom, simply rinsing their hands with water, ZERO soap used. From 7-10 am you can only smell sewage from almost everywhere on the resort except by the beach. Same from 5-8, sewage smell. Theres a certain path, in the 300s where it CONSTANTLY smells of sewage. Would I go back? hell no!!! The Vilas looks nice however were never offered as an option. I'd pay $1000s of dollars more if it means a cleaner and more hygienic option. Avoid this resort at all cost. Spend the extra money and go for the 5 star. Skip at all cost.

Honest Review

We werent able to get the Junior Suites at Cofresi this time which were spacious, new and clean rooms with modern amenities,large showers, etc The standard rooms we had to take as nothing else available were in Serious need of upgrade-rooms were small shower head hanging off, mold, bathroom window crank window broken so couldnt close very old and not well kept was super disappointing as we had our adult children and friends with us-also to note with not being in a Junior Suite does not allow u a [... read more]ccess to VIP beach and beds etc Made trip like a 5/10 instead of 10/10 with the Junior Suites Very very disappointed is an understatement-we were told rooms were smaller than Junior Suites but i couldve handled smaller but not the shape that our room was in. Geared for young people

Cofresi Palm Beach Resort is definitely a place for younger people. it is built into a hill and there are steps to get EVERYWHERE! I am in my late 60's and in very good shape but it was a little too much for me at times. I got sick, as did several other guests. I found the place exceptionally noisy (loud music at all of the pools)and was not able to find a quiet spot to just sit QUIETLY. it is a MASSIVE resort and there are many places that are inaccessible or you need an upgrade to use.  [... read more]We DID upgrade and still there were many places we weren't allowed. i found this very confusing. the front desk was a gong show of confusion, although the staff are always very friendly and eager to help they did not seem to know how to help with a request (IT took us 3 days to get beach towels). these blue towels are supposed to be in your room when you arrive and you can change them out all week and leave them in your room when you check out. there were no beach towels in our room and it took 3 days to get that sorted I would rate this as a 3 star resort at best, so if you are in good shape, like loud music, and love walking its the place for you. most of the restaurants were condensed in two locations which were very far away from our room. there was one restaurant near us but was not open until evening...long walk for morning coffee...lol...one of my favourite parts of these holidays

Nice resort

Amazing staff good food pools and resort were nice hotel needed some upgrades no hot water for 5 days mix up with are original king replacement with 2 beds 1 bed mattress needed replacing low water pressure AC worked fantastic overall the staff made the experience a pleasurable stay

Had great time

My wife and myself had a great week at Cofresi. The food was good. We were in the older rooms. They could use updating for sure but how much time do you spend in your room. For the price we payed at peak time for travel would definitely go back again. $1000 each. Note this resort is very large and not for anyone disabled or walking issues. Lots of stairs and inclines. Was able to change after arguing for an hour. Besides check in, everyone else was great. Pools are nice but a few need repainting. Don’t go there for the beach cause you’ll be disappointed. All in all, place is nice for the price. Would I go back? No. Too many steps and not a nice beach.

Disappointed

Locals came for 3 days and I have never felt more disrespected at a resort then I did at this one, pools were falling apart on the bottom, we were not allowed to swim up to the pool bar because it was “closed” they actually made us get out of the pool just to walk to the other side of the same bar, there were no chairs to actually sit on the beach all the beds were far away so it was uncomfortable leaving our bags and not being able see them, there were a lot of stairs and hills to be going up a [... read more]nd down nothing was close together. It was very confusing having more then one resort beside us and knowing where we were and weren’t allowed to be. Honest opinion I would not recommend this resort to anyone!

Could be better

Stayed in Junior Suite, room was decent. A lot of walking to get to different things, bar, pool, restaurant, lobby, beach and many stairs. Way too many golf carts zooming around on joint paths, almost hit a few times. Pools need painting but we're clean. The employees are excellent and really are this resorts saving grace.Food and drinks are average.

Amazing Resort

The hotel grounds are large and spread out. The terrain is hilly, but they have a shuttle bus service running every 20 minutes. An exceptional hotel but are restricted areas for home owners and time share areas so not all the best the hotel has to offer are available for the all inclusive. Had a great time, but watch out for high pressure time share reps. and avoid all meetings if that is not your thing. I definitely will go back.

Can't review - got switched to the sub par Casa Marina with zero notice

We didn't get to stay at the Cofresi resort that we'd been making plans around for 8 months. Got switched with NO notice to Casa Marina which was a HUGE disappointment. Nothing but issues and poor rooms, drinks, food.

Beware

We booked this resort and were sent to their sister resort with no notification. Service was terrible. Rooms were dated, no hot water, and toilets overflowed. We had to pay $375 for a room with a functioning toilet. Staff were rude and not helpful. If you had a question they would always send you to someone else. They made you feel like you were a bother.

Disappointing

Rating is not accurate. I would say this is a 2.5- 3 star hotel now. 1hr wait to check in 10 people. Lobby staff either poorly trained or managed. We stayed in a basic room. Room keys didn’t work. No AC, balcony door handle broken off, fan didn’t work and windows screwed shut. TV remote didn’t work. Buttons on the TV didn’t work. Only volume up/not down Bedside Outlet box laying on the floor. Staff- friendly but not always helpful Entertainment- fair Most pools with cracked concrete, dirty They don’t seem concerned to make repairs/maintenance. I’m sure it was an amazing resort at one point, but we were ripped off. It was not worth the money we payed.

Relaxing vacation

A beautiful palm filled resort. Great spa services. I had a hot stone massage on the beach. Ask for Suna. Upgrade to VIP beach was worth it for free wifi at that beach, day beds with white curtains, good service and sushi. A buffet here and nearby at Tropical. The food was only fair. The specialty restos were good. You can walk between resorts and also take the shuttle bus. Upgrade included a room near the pool and beach. Unfortunately the bathroom smelled really bad and the airconditioning was  [... read more]weak. The worst part was lack of wifi. You can pay extra. One hour free every 24 hours. Good value and a really beautiful (tho older) resort. I had a very relaxing week.

Sucks

Hello the resort is to big for nothing,no excess to the vip and chairman sites , 30% of the people got sick , no dressers in the room for our clothes only 8 dirty cubbies hanging in the closet, a/c was only working at 69 degrees (that’s very cold), got zapped from a plug while I was plugging in my phone , stairs uneven and some higher than the other , beach full of seaweed and small rocks .The food was good , service was so so , the drinks at the bars is only what they have on there menu’s. Not ideal

Group of 10, rooms scattered throughout this large property. Check in was unfortunately a long drawn out process, “come back in 10-15 mins” and after an hour or so of this we were getting tired and just wanted to shower from long day of travel. Showered and tub would not drain, called front desk and once again experienced “call back in 10 mins” after playing this game a second time, we’d had enough and packed up all our belongings and headed for one of our single occupancy room, to which we paid [... read more] inflated rate to have, forcing that friend into our other single occupancy room. Front desk would never return our call about bath tub until 3 days later. We went to our air Transat rep to which he was gonna try and upgrade our room for the inconvenience, only thing was guest services would not comply. The rep then said he would give us a discounted excursion, to which we would have taken him up on except I would fall illl and 3 others from our group with travellers diarrhea from the lack of cleanliness around resort and especially buffet.there was a lot vomiting observed at this resort. I was thoroughly disappointed in this trip as I booked as a 4 star for it to be downgraded a week before departure. I was not fond of DR, and will not return. Air Transat flight was great and would suggest dropping congress from itinerary

Group of 10

Grounds were good, bathrooms were some times good, a couple of back ups in the public washrooms while we were there (a week). Sewage smell was quite prominent at times. Food was ok, Asian restaurant was great! Couple of our servers in the buffet were amazing, rest of the staff were kinda blah. Pools seemed clean, drinks were good. Beach was ok, very wavy (not calm at all). Our group still had a good time however we will book elsewhere next year.

Beautiful Resort but…..

Grounds were beautiful, cleanliness was top notch, staff was second to none. This resort was built on a hill/mountain and is totally the wrong choice for older people. We were in the units which were first built and were totally run down. Had to be moved from first room because it was totally inferior (AC was freezing; the seal on patio door window was broken, could not see out; no drawers for clothes; 4 hangers; no hot water). Thank you to Garlyn Nunez at reception desk who moved us to a better [... read more] location but same low class unit. I praise him because he was so kind to us and I wasn’t a very happy customer. This resort would be conducive to Europeans who are used to walking up hill a lot. Shuttles were great but hence we all came home sick because of close contact to others. Entertainment was great.
