Senator Puerto Plata

Loved size of resort. Able to walk to all areas in a few minutes. Very clean grounds and room and dining room. Good choice in buffet. Lots of shade available at the pool with umbrellas and palm trees.

Nice resort

The first 3 days our building had no hot water in our room that made showering very difficult. Day 4 we had warm water. Food was good and service was good. Clean rooms. The staff were good and the games poolside were fun.

Nice resort good value.

Beautiful location and grounds are very well maintained. Real nice pool area with lots of loungers and great pool bar. We had a comfortable bed, lots of hot water and good shower.Room was nice and clean but showed some wear and a few maintenance issues. Entertainment was fair at best. Enjoyed our stay and would return

Senator

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Senator Hotel ! The hotel was clean! I enjoyed the fact that this Hotel resort wasn't too large! It wasn't crowded. The food was great! No long line ups! Thoroughly enjoyed the restaurants on site! The staff was very friendly. The entertainment near the pool was loud, and not always appreciated. We would escape to the beach. I would much rather have music playing..and have games away from pool.

So So Resort

Beach and Pool very nice plus Food was good. The power in our room which was an ocean front constantly would flick off then on then off no hot water always just warm. No face cloths no beer in the room and no service at the pool .

Great value resort

This is a great resort in many ways , nice mid-size resort with multiple pools to please all and a decent beach . The food was great with lots of options and never to long of a wait time. The bars and staff were great with staff like David at the pool bar and Erica n Christy at sports bar working very hard and quickly so wait times for a drink were reasonable. The shows and beach party kept the night time moving along. If intrested in water activities in the ocean take a walk down the beach to the dive hut and talk with Chichi or Felix for a great diving experience or jetski rental or tubing or kayaking. This is a solid 4+ star , has everything you need unless you need huge crystal chandeliers everywhere and extravagant decors and crazy expensive alcohol to make you happy then pay double and go elsewhere . This is a family resort and have been here 2 times now with and without a group and have enjoyed both and looking at returning again.

Amazing resort!

The resort was beautiful, everything within walking distance, beach was beautiful and the service amazing. Loved the strip with all the little shops, kids loved getting pizza and ice cream whenever they wanted. The performances were great each day. Food was good. Room was a little dated but clean and honestly we've stayed in worse. Everything in the room worked, hot showers, etc. would 100% not hesitate to return.

Excellent Resort for the money

This was my second trip to The Senator and it did not disappoint. The attention to detail in cleanliness and ground maintenance was stunning. The beds were very comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, service was very good, food was quite good and the steakhouse was perfect. We were there for two weeks and enjoyed the hot weather and watching the cruise ships coming and going. There are plenty of chairs and umbrellas at the pool and lots of chairs at the beach. Legends is wonderful, great [... read more] service and great food. There are two pools, one is the party pool and the other is the quiet pool. The party pool has the swim up bar and the surfaces have been redone. The quiet pool does need to have the same resurfacing but that didn't stop us from using it. On the downside there should be more tables and chairs available for people to sit for coffee or play games and cards. It would have been nice to have regular soft drinks but all were diet. We were in room 1025, close to everything .The room was a bit dated but clean, we basically only use the room to sleep so all was good. Overall a great spot.

Good value

had fun, group of 9 total. been before and will go back next year. well looked after grounds, and rooms clean, bath tubs needed reglazing. loved hearing the surf from our room, long walks along beach, and buffet was very good most days, two week stay . Thank you Nicole from tripcentral.ca

Worst resort

Cookes are not properly trained. They fry fish and meat in the same oven. Poor WiFi. Connection drops often. Limited food choices. Only 2 restaurants you can go to every week One buffet is not enough for the crowd Tiny pool. Lack of space around the Pool Housekeeping is best

Family Vacation at New Year's

The overall resort is quite nice. The grounds are kept well. The pools are very nice, but can qet a bit noisy when the afternoon events start. The beach is quiet and very relaxing. The beach is in a bay so great for swimming and wading. There is very limited vendors on the beach so that was great. The dining options are pretty good and always could find something to eat. The a la carte restaurants were very good. The New Year's Gala was quite busy and then should have had at least one mo [... read more]re seating as they only offered two seatings. The staff was very attentive and a pleasure to deal with. They took good care us at all times. The rooms need an update. The overall experience was great and our family would go back again.

Nice resort

Resort is situated in a beautify area of Puerto Plata. Resort grounds are very clean, with noticeable daily maintenance. Found the buffet very small with limited selections although food quality was good. Most days we had to run around looking for utensils, Coffee cups, glasses and plates. For some reason they cannot keep up with demand. They are likely understaffed as well. Servers are friendly and makes the place what it is. We booked Ambers and the Japanese restaurants. Japanese was good  [... read more]with a show. Ambers on the other hand disappointed. There were 4 of us ordering different dishes. I ordered ribeye. And clearly got a New York strip. Which was very tough full of connective tissues. My wife’s sirloin stake was way more tender and tasty. The beach is very nice and about a mile and a half long. Sand is fine to the waterline then it gets a little rougher with shell fragments. You don’t need a water shoe. Don’t walk on the reefs unless you want some painful experience.stepping on sea urchin. Basic rooms are dated but clean and well kept. A/C was not keeping up very much. Asked them to look into it twice, not sure if they did. We had several short power outages lasting 2-5 minutes each. Not a big deal. Overall the resort is nice and I would rate it a stretched 3.5. We would come back again if the price is right.

Good value

Resort is very clean and easy to get around. Views are amazing.Staff are friendly. Buffet was good, although repetitive. Legends was great for early morning coffee and playing cards in the evening. Comfortable bed. The shower stall was too small. Pools were great.

This Resort was not a 5, but was great for the price. We had a wonderful time. Had some issues but where fixed with no issues.

This Hotel was in the process of Renovations, the room we had was so dark we only had 2 lights in the room & 1 plug that worked. No light in the middle of the beds so hard to see when getting up at night. The staff where amazing. All staff front deck, Cleaning staff & the guys that filled up your fridge. Yes we would go back.

Enjoyed every minute So clean,someone is always cleaning. Everything you would want to eat and drink. Staff very accommodating. Night live was good. Beach was always clean. Great view of the in coming ship.

Our second home

A perfect 2 week stay from the moment we walked up to the front desk and Michelle said welcome home. We are so fortunate to have so many friends working at the resort including the entertainment crew Skinny, Monkey Black Shampoo and of course Dora. We were there on remembrance day and they stopped the music for our moment of silence followed by Oh Canada. Wow there were people in tears. Thank you all. It was a pleasant surprise to see our friend Alejandro the former manager had returned from Spain for a year or two. As for the food it was top shelf in the buffet. Enjoyed some steak on a bun courtesy of Juan Carlos for lunches. Our waiters Nunez, Jullien and Farera made sure we were well looked after. The girls in the morning in Legends made sure we had our morning coffee with a double tap of Baileys. Last but certainly not least kudos to all the ground keepers and cleaners for maintaining the resort to it's impeccable condition

Disappointed

The resort is beautiful, nicely laid out. In the junior suite assigned to us we had no water and the power was on and off making for a hot room. Customer service sent 2 different people to check and they came up with different ideas to what was wrong with our power and water, but no solutions. Finally they moved us in a different room with working air conditioner but the hot water still had no pressure and the cold working depending on what time you decided to come to the room and take a shower. [... read more] Mostly we took cold showers for the rest of our stay. They had a big issue with securing enough towels for the resort and I didn’t understand why would they pick the towels that were NOT on the floor and change them when they didn’t have enough to replace them. Our sheets weren’t changed for the entire 10 day stay. Food quality and buffet: good, stay away from beef, is too chewy and not edible. Restaurants: We tried all three of them. Japanese restaurant is where I got food poisoning from ( chicken wasn’t cooked properly. After a had two pieces both of them uncooked I stopped, but it was obviously to late for me) I don’t recommend the Italian, but the steakhouse food was better and full, which resulted in a very slow service. Beach: there’s rocks in the water. Walk a little on the right side of the beach closer to playabachata resort for better beach.In all I would not go back to this resort
