Food was good

Grounds were ok..rooms a bit sketchy need lots of improvements. Paint on baseboard..ac too loud. Terrible scent coming in through ac and gym had the most horrible scent as well as the spa. All wait staff were nice. Booked appointment with spa and they tried to say our appointment wasn't for that day was for the next day! We had another appointment booked for later in the week and when we got there they said the staff was sick very disappointed. Great for families

This is a small resort that is quite compact and great for families with young kids or ageing parents. It is very windy on the beach most of the afternoon I felt there was a lot of variety on the buffet however, they didn’t have very many special nights One bar usually with not much of a lineup and the bartenders were very friendly Fun entertainment staff

Amazing beach front resort !

We visited Viva Tangerine March 11th for the week. The resort was so close to the ocean and grounds were beautiful. Location is great and resort is laid out very well. Short walk down the beach to local restaurants & shops. Felt very safe exploring. Rooms were renovated and very clean AC worked great and had amazing ocean views with oceanfront room. Beautiful Setting

The grounds and setting were very pretty - lots of beautiful vegetation and flowers. The resort is quite compact, with all the rooms a short walk to the pool, restaurants and beach. The pool was very nice, the beach gorgeous (but the waves made it difficult for me to swim.) The food was quite good, though I'm not a big fan of buffets. My second room on the ground floor room was perfect. I found the service in the restaurant uneven. It was often difficult to find someone to get a place setting, or a cup of tea/coffee in the morning. The hardworking bartenders were great, however.

Enjoyable resort

The grounds were well kept. I liked that there was a small size pool in a quieter area. It was a busy week when we attended. I would suggest a quiet indoor room library style where guests can go rest or read. Our room was spacious and clean. The hot water was not always available. The dining staff were very helpful and attentive. There was a wide variety of choices offered during the week.

You get what you pay for

Pros- The resort grounds were lovely and well maintained, it was close to the airport and was a quick check in process. The beach was fun and very wavy! We enjoyed watching the kite surfers. You could walk the beach in either direction safely. East took you to the beach front restaurants and shops. West took you to quiet unspoiled surroundings. Cons- the rooms were a nice size but, with no extras. No kleenex, ice, or alcohol available in fridge. Very tired with cracked tiles, dripped paint etc [... read more]. Food wasn’t great and buffets very busy. Just draft beer and cheep booze. Long bar lines far from the beach- with everyone filling their personal thermal cups it took forever!! I ended up going across the road and buying my own beer and snacks. We also ate a few meals at the restaurants down the beach. Lots of smoking everywhere including pool area covered bar. Cigarette butts in beach sand was sad to see. Pool was very busy and hard to find chairs. Tons of sellers on the beach, I realize they are trying to make a living but even after you’ve bought they still keep coming! Bottom line the resort is cheap so don’t expect much and it leaves you with money to check out the area! Great restaurants, shops close by to explore!

Fun times!

The resort is small enough to have everything close enough for walking to all the amenities. We were a group of 6 adults. We loved walking the beach and enjoyed watching the kitesurfing. The buffet food was okay...we didn't starve. The snack bar was perfect for a small bite (fries, hot dogs, burgers). Rooms are outdated, but clean. Don't recommend ground floor rooms though...lots of room under the door for different critters to get in! Best resort ever

Everything was exceptional. Quick check in. Room was good. Third floor close to all amenities, pool & beach. Elevator. Customer service desk right close to all activities. No need to go to reception. Problems fixed within 5 minutes. Great food. Workers wonderful. Overall an exceptional wacation.

Decent resort but definitely not a 4 star

This a decent resort, food is okay, à la carts are much better than the buffet. The beach is beautiful, we had a few days with red flags, and a few with yellow flags. Be prepared when you go to the beach, it is a public beach. We always found seating around the pool or at the beach. Often there would be random things floating (lettuce, tooth pick, ect) The lifeguard really liked to blow his whistle when children were jumping into the pool. Stopping them from having fun. This was not on the set of rules, it was like he made his own set of rules up. The pool would also would be nicer with easier access to get into the pool if you don’t want people jumping in. As well, they didn’t play music during the day. Unless there was entertainment going on, it was just other peoples little speakers. When you have music, it completely changes the vibes. We had it one day during the foam party, and it brought out a lot of fun for people! This hotel also only has one bar, so be prepared that you could be waiting a minute to 25 minutes for a drink. The staff tend to talk more to each other than work. There isn’t a lounge bar, there isn’t enough seating if it’s raining, and no where to go. There was never enough towels, the towel guy would only give out to women half the time, not enough supplies in general ( we had to tell someone to leave our daughters silverware as they wanted to clear it despite everyone still eating and plate still full). Public bathrooms are very few and far between. Makes you wonder how many people pee in the pool. There were days that we didn’t have a maid clean our room but she would take the towels. Hydro went out daily, if you were not up early enough or late enough you didn’t have any hot water.

You get what you pay for!

We went to Viva Tangerine by Wyndham because inexpensive but we now wish we would choose different hotel. For starters the entire hotel had problems with hot water. Out of 7 days we had 2 days when we could take comfortable shower. The only bar in this resort was always very crowded and noisy ( especially when there was rain and all guests had to stay in this small hall) The food was ok but the drinks were very low quality. The wine was not drinkable! There was also water or something oily comin [... read more]g from the ceiling on our bed despite of the fact that our room was on a ground floor! On the positive, the beach is big and the entrance to the ocean very shallow and no rocks. Also there were a lot of beds around the pool and beach so no need for reservations. The staff was trying hard to please guests but the hotel should not operate if it's lacking basic facilities. Overall we would never go back to this resort and we were happy that we were leaving after one week.

It is a budget all-inclusive resort

If you have a tight budget but still want to go to an all-inclusive resort, this can be your choice. Staffs are friendly and will do their best to help you. Resort is small but clean. Pool can be crowded. Beach is nice but with high waves, not a place to swim ( we stayed 7 days and 5 days are red flag. Staff will ask you not to ocean at all). Food is OK. Not lots of choices though and it seems same menu almost everyday. We did walk to a nearby sea food restaurant to have dinner three times.

Great Family Resort

The resort is not big, however it's a beautiful resort to stay. Clean grounds and kept well. Food is great, lots of varieties of food in the buffet restaurant. Staffs are friendly and activity entertainment are amazing. It's a wonderful family resort. The price is worth it!

Loved every minute of it?

The resort is right downtown Cabarete( a 5 minute walk actually) a short drive from the airport, quick check in and our room was ready. We had issues finding our room as the buildings are not clearly numbered. But that hiccup was minor lol. The resort grounds are well manicured, staff is excellent in all areas of the resort. Food and drinks were great! Rooms are satisfactory , next time will book an ocean view to be close to the pool and ocean.

Been to dozens of resorts, this is the third time @Viva Tangerine Love the beach. Food was good, not pre covid good, but no resort has stepped it up fully yet. Only ate at the main dining room. All Service, esp dining and housekeeping was great, employees seem to truly care and enjoy their job, and people. (great bosses no doubt) Entertainment: I’ve see worse, but very few. During rainy days I watched customers complain as many of the “team” did nothing but talk to each other in a gro [... read more]up and ignore them to their great frustration. If you think being in-your-face flamboyant, compensates for lazy and rude, then you will be blind to the problem. All things considered, great value.

March 2 wk. vacation

This was our 4th time at the Tangerine. They made a lot of positive renovations since our last visit. It’s a good place for couples and families, a nice pool for all ages, beautiful beach to walk, walking distance to Cabarete. The ocean waves are big, fun for teenagers and adults to body surf. You must keep an eye on kids playing in the ocean. Staff kept close watch on the surf. The buffet was very busy during Spring Break. The food was good. They have 3 restaurants available for dining with r [... read more]eservations. The rooms were comfortable. We walked to Cabarete several times for lunch on the beach or a beverage and shopping. There’s a lot of kite surfers and plenty of places to take lessons. The plus for me was the beach walking, relaxing at the beach and proximity to Cabarete on the beach. I also recommend checking out the Cabarete Coffee Company near the resort.

Good first All-Inclusive trip !

Very small resort but that was perfect for our family. The wind is amazing because it was so hot when we were there so it made it nice to do things. Locals are extremely friendly and felt safe leaving the resort. Our room was clean but in a bad location - above the kitchen so it smelt not so good. If you get room 3309 or 3308 - ask for a new room. Overall for our first trip it was a good beginner vacation. I would give it 3.5/5. Great holiday!

We just returned from the Viva Tangerine and absolutely loved it. We must have been in a renovated room, because I can’t even say the resort or our room was tired or dated. Alfredo checked us in, he was super friendly and helpful, which made checking in a breeze. The entertainment staff are there what seems like all day and night. They play a few games throughout the day, such as darts, dancing lessons and beach volleyball. In the evening, they put on a little show poolside, followed some  [... read more]nights by a full show in the theater. One night a week they do a silent dance party, which was an absolute blast. The food was quite good. A little disappointed in there being no bacon on the breakfast buffet the entire 10 days. The buffet is a little repetitive day to day, but overall, the food was delicious. We went to the Mexican twice, it was absolutely delicious! Try the Sopa Azteca…best tomato soup I’ve eaten in my life. We went to the Italian once, it was just ok. We did not try the Fusion. All the staff bust their butts to get the tables turned around…kudos to the Manager Ruth. The beach is big and beautiful. We had yellow flags 8 of the 10 days. The beach is ideal for kite surfers, and it’s fun to watch them. The other 2 days were red flags. The ocean is great for jumping the waves. If you want to sit and relax in water, you’ll have to use the pool. The pool could have been cleaner. The public washrooms were always clean and well stocked. We never had trouble getting a lounge chair at either the beach or pool. There are plenty of trees to offer shade. We didn’t have any issues with hot water in our rooms. We were in building 22. They only have one bar, but they have 5 or 6 bartenders on at a time…so we never waited more than 5 minutes at the bar. A couple of the days, they opened a small portable bar poolside. Our only comment is that Cabarete is quite far from all excursions. We spent 4 hours (each way!) to do the catamaran excursion, and 2.5 hours (each way) to do the buggy and monkey excursion. Also, they advertise as being 15-20 minutes from the airport, but it’s actually about 45 minutes. All in all, a great resort that we would definitely recommend.

Good 3-Star Resort

PROS: 1. The best part about this resort was the beach! Waves were rough (kids enjoyed). You can walk along the beach for quite a distance, especially on the one side past the rocks. 2. Close to a town to buy souvenirs. 3. Kite surfing. 4. Lunch buffet was the best meal (pasta, rice, beans, soup, bread). Mexican and Italian restaurants were better than the dinner buffet. CONS: 1. Rooster crowing repeatedly every morning before 7:00 am. 2. FOOD. At breakfast, the omelettes are always r [... read more]unny and not cooked through. All of the desserts and pastries were no good. Snack bar is the same everyday. 3. DRINKS. Tried many of them but they aren’t that good. 4. Rooms need maintenance. Our room only had hot water between 4:00-6:00 pm. Bathroom doorknob was broken. Air conditioner was loud. Two water bottles for three people. 5. Poor/little entertainment. 6. Location of the resort is far from excursions near Puerto Plata. Be prepared for more than 1 hour travel times. RECOGNITION & GRATITUDE: -Clarivar Perez (sp?) – sweetest housekeeper for block 23! -Ralfina the bartender - very good to us and the kids. Friendly and makes the best drinks! Café Café server – hard worker! RECOMMEND -Waterfall and Monkeyland excursion (snorkelling was disappointing) OVERALL We knew what we were getting into for the price and from other reviews. It’s a 3 to 3.5 star hotel. You will enjoy if you know what to expect. We still had a good time. Weather was fantastic. We did not have locals on the weekend and they never ran out of food which we were worried about.

Great Small Resort

We had a fabulous time. The weather was great, the beach was busy but beautiful. It is the kite surfing beach. The rooms were dated but for the purpose of sleep, they were just right. The buffet and al a cart were okay. The Mexican and Italian were fantastic. The buffet had regular local foods but it was also Americanized. The pool was well maintained and the grounds were clean. Viva Tangerine was quite nice!

A beautiful resort right on the ocean. Multiple pools with ample lounge chairs/sunbeds/table seating. Lots of loungers on the beach in a beautiful semi-shaded palm grove too. Great buffet & a variety a la carte options . Tennis/beach v-ball/table tennis/ foosball/board games all available. Drawbacks? Good Wifi, but limited to common areas/pool deck. Nothing in rooms. Not a lot of hot water. Shower early in the day. Only one main bar continuously open. Line-ups occurred at peak times in the day.  [... read more]Bring your own Yeti to fill.
