Awesome resort

Rooms were clean and modern, with cleaning 2x daily. The restaurants were good especially the steakhouse and Tapas. Pool and beach were amazing and cleaned daily, and all the staff was great! Shows in the theatre were so good and the entertainment staff was amazing!! Daily activities like beach and pool volleyball too!

So glad we picked this hotel

This hotel is wonderful for service I can't say that enough. We have been to Mexico several times and all the staff went above and beyond. Great hotel for families. There was always something for the kids to do daily. I would highly recommend this resort. Food was also great and served in a very timely Manor

Loved our stay

This was our second time here. It’s a great place. Causal atmosphere, wonderful wide beach, great food. We loved the pool for young kids - although there is no slides or anything. There is a coffee bar, which was a highlight. Spa not worth the $.

Very pleasant experience

Hotel is a bit old , but is well maintained and the grounds are rich in vegetation . The service is very good and is not much to complain . There is some renovations in a few rooms going on but is understandable .

I have been to a few resorts In playa del Carmen this was my first time at this particular resort in all my vacation was good. beach and the food were amazing other then that this resort could have more amenities to keep guest entertained. Good resort for couples but if your traveling with children this not the resort for you

Wonderful resort

We had a great time at the Cataloinia Playa Maroma. The staff were excellent. Octavio was so generous with his time and extremely helpful. We felt cared for the entire time. The housekeeping staff, Isabelle was wonderful. The food was tasty and the drinks were plenty. Bed was soft, and the resort had all we needed for a great week. Good value for the money.

Safe to travel again

We just returned from our trip to Mexico. All in all it was a great getaway. The hotel was good. We don't really have any major complaints. Guessing things aren't perfect cause of the current situation (covid). They don't have all their staff due to the pandemic and the hotel not being fully booked. We found more people then we were anticipating. Our only disappointment was the a la cartes. You can't make reservations which was a huge disappointment cause the buffet got boring night after night. [... read more] We did manage to get to 2 a la cartes and they didn't have enough staff to handle the volume. The workers were running their tails off. We actually left 1 in particular cause after waiting over an hour after already seated our food came out cold. We could appreciate the wait with being under staffed but then to have it come cold was disheartening. We feel for the workers cause they were working so hard. The girls at the front seating for the a la cartes get stuck telling people they can't serve them or it's an hour wait. We have been to a Catalonia hotel in Mexico before and they took reservations. Seems like such a simple way to keep people happy. The dinner buffet really needs to add more variety or change it up more often

Great resort

Everything was very safe and clean. The masks were mandatory in closed spaces, such as the buffet and the lobby. The staff was very professional and attentive and the service was very good. We had a wonderful time.

Perfect for a chill family vacation!!

Love this hotel!! It's small enough that walking around with little ones is not an issue and big enough that there are tons of places to hang out, eat, enjoy the weather, do activities. We've gone to many resorts that are super loud around lunch time and you can't really rest, and Catalonia was super quiet 12-3 which was ideal for anyone wanting to rest, little ones taking a nap, or just being able to hear the sound of waves. Also lots of nature so walking to the beach and lobby and back again was never a chore because of all the shade. Really clean, and has lots of cute Coatis and who doesn't love having cute animals around. We also loved that the hotel was very eco friendly. No plastic or too much paper around. And water was always fresh/refilled and we had more than enough!! Overall a great experience! We will be back!

Best beach ever!

We loved this resort with its pristine pool, best beach ever and amazing buffet and a la carte restaurants. A few of the negatives which weren’t deal breakers for us were the room was very tired and worn, the AC wasn’t able to cool the room adequately, and the pool bar doesn’t open until 11 am lol. All in all, we loved it.

Excellent stay.

Very nice resort, not to large compact area. Beautiful beach. Excellent service. We have been in this resort second time in this year with kids and grandchildren. We definitely return to Catalonia in nearest future.

Excellent for the second time!

We travelled as a family of four with young kids, 5 and 4. The hotel exceeded our expectations as we arrived to a renovated room. The food is excellent, service is beyond exceptional, and the cleanliness truly laudable. We loved it a year ago and we loved it even more this time around. This is the only resort we re-visited for a second time and we will definitely be back!

Extremely Wonderful

Breathtaking Views of the jungle and beach. Unbelievably delicious food. The kindness and warmth of the staff made our experience extra special. A trip that will be hard to top. If you’re looking for romance, adventure, and an abundance of memories this is the place to visit.

Great Hotel - Reasonably priced

Just came back from a 7 night stay at this resort and were extremely pleased with this hotel. The room was great, service was wonderful and food excellent. Our hotel room was situated close to the pool (we upgraded to privileged), a la carte restaurants and beach. We did all all the a la carte restaurants except for the Mexican as it was closed the night we decided to try it. As a side note, one restaurant is closed each night - we never knew which one until we got there (not sure if you can [... read more] obtain this information at the front desk?). There was very little wait to get into these restaurants ........... the most we waited was 20 minutes. We did the buffet 2-3 times and was very impressed by the food selection. The beach was beautiful but did have seaweed. That didn't stop us - we are from the east coast and most of our beaches have sea weed. The waves were great - plenty of loungers and palm trees for shade. Used the pool of couple of times - had to get there early to find 4 seats together with umbrellas. We prefer the beach so did not mind if there was not enough loungers for us. There is a great juice bar and creperie near the pool & beach. In addition to crepes, the creperie also served banana splits and milkshakes. Needless to say, we were there several times! We did one excursion which included repelling down ceynote, ziplining, canoeing and vising the Mayan temple at Coba - highly recommended but is a full day adventure. We booked this at the hotel for about $130.00 USD each. Also took a cab into Playa del Carmen for an afternoon which was very nice. My only suggestion to hotel management would be more fans in buffet & lobby area. I usually don't mind the heat but it was uncomfortable at times while eating or having a drink in the lobby. Alcohol is only served until 11:00 pm - this wasn't an issue for us but may be for some. We loved this hotel and can't say enough about the service we received. I would recommend to anyone.

Fabulous resort

This resort had beautiful grounds with amazing wildlife. The public areas were clean and well kept. There was a variety of food from buffet to àlacart, something for everyone. We especially enjoyed the Japanese restaurant. The pool was huge with shallow and deep water. We enjoyed a massage at the spa which was beautiful.

So so resort Been there, done that, wouldn't do it again

The grounds were Ok The pool . . . only one . . . not bad but too loud and noisy around it. The room . . . felt like I was sleeping in a damp basement. No Kleenex supplied to room, no extra blankets - we were cold*

Loved this place!!!

I have nothing but great things to say about this resort! This was our first time in Mexico and we weren't sure what to expect, but this place blew us away. Super amazing and friendly staff, great food, beautiful beach, large pool, extremely clean.... We thought the Grill restaurant was by far the best, we ate there twice and it was amazing. We also loved the little taco truck and sausage stand beside the pool for lunch. So many good food options.

Advertised as 4.5-5.0 star, no way!

Everything, but for one very important thing, was outstanding. Our room was a complete disappointment. It seemed as if nothing had been done to rejuvenate it since its doors opened. I think it was clean, but was distracted by needing to jump into the middle of the bed to avoid sliding off the waterfall edge. The hotel staff could only offer one solution and that was to move us the following day to their sister resort, Catalonia Riviera Maya Puerto Adventuros (with a number of comps). It was [... read more] a sad goodbye to a most beautiful beach and the eco-preserved grounds and hello to a jammed packed pool and beach, with really lovely staff. Our room was an improvement and on the Privilege side, tucked at the end. We enjoyed our stay. It will hence be a one time visit.

Disappointing and then average

We booked at the Catalonia Maroma. We were extremely disappointed with our room. It was old and grimy, dirty curtains, tiny bathroom, dingy, mattresses very old. We paid for the upgrade which cost us an additional220.00 and they had no upgraded rooms so we had to move resorts to the Catalonia Maya. The grounds were nice and the beach beautiful however, no palapa or palm trees for shade. The staff were very friendly. At the riviera the room was nice and staff very friendly. Great Place Loved it!

The Jungle effect was amassing. Very Clean and great service. Drinks were of very good quality, food was excellent. Staff were very helpful. Loved having the little forest critters around us. Great location
