The resort is beautiful and the beach was awesome. The staff were really friendly, helpful and attentive. Food was great. I would highly recommend it. The best food was at the sea food restaurant and the pool side “Bear foot bistro†was awesome for lunch.

Incredible beach! Resort area is beautiful!
The food was less than adequate in all the restaurants. The best meals we had were at the buffet.
The beds were very hard and made for an uncomfortable nights sleep.
The service was excellent in all areas with the exception of the Japanese restaurant where the server literally rushed us out the door.
The beach area was amazing and the resort grounds were beautiful and kept very clean.

Beautiful resort
Food and service was excellent, grounds were beautiful, bathrooms were particularly well done. The few things that could be improved upon have to do with the rooms and are as follows: flashing light on ceilings and walls for smoke detector should not be placed right above the bed, we could hear the people above us walking around so rooms not soundproofed very well, marble floors are beautiful but not practical for someone in a swim up room, they are super slippery for wet feet. Loved all the [... read more]games that were available and the swim up bar and pools were fantastic.

These people could not do enough for you. We have had many hotels offer concierge service this is the first time we actually got it. Rooms and beach were beautiful. Room service was also well above the norm. Wine lists were super pricey. Italian restaurant was outstanding. Asian and buffet also good. Others were marginal. All in all a beautiful property with a lovely helpful staff.

Secrets Maroma
The hotel was great and the staff and services were also very good. Low marks in the wet bar as the hotel would not provide bottles of wine to the room. Our biggest disappointment was the seaweed (sargassum) on the beach. If you want a beach vacation, this may not be the spot for you.

Amazing
We spent 2 weeks recently at Secrets Maroma in Mexico and we can easily say it was one of the best travel experiences either of have ever experienced.
From the time we arrived at the resort, we were greeted and treated with nothing but a welcoming professionalism. The resort itself is beautiful and the grounds are kept meticulously clean. We had an ocean view room on the 4th floor in building 22, and our concierge, Margarita was outstanding. Anything we wanted or needed, Margarita would take c[... read more]are of for us right away. Our safe in our room had stopped working for some unknown reason. One call to Margarita and there was some knocking on our door with 10 minutes for fix the problem. She also arranged special dinner reservations for the chefs table at both El Patio and Portafino's. Both were exceptional 5 course meals that were not on the regular menus and the chef personally presented us with each dish he specially prepared for this! A great dining experience!
Also, a big shout out to Edgar at the breakfast buffet for his friendly professionalism! If you need or want anything on his watch, he's the man that makes it happen!
We were on the resort for 2 full weeks and really didn't feel the need at all to leave the resort to be entertained. However, we did go into Playa Del Carmen for one afternoon. We went by taxi for $50 USD round trip. Our driver dropped us off and offered to pick us up. He said we could pay him only when we returned to the resort.
The beach is among the best beaches we've seen in the Caribbean. For a few days there was a seaweed problem and the grounds people were trying to clear it but mother nature just wouldn't let up. But after a few days, the seaweed just seemed to disappear and the beach was clear of it once again. We spent our days split between the beach and the pool later in the afternoon. oh and shout out to Bernadine, the beach waitress who kept us well hydrated! WiFi was available everywhere, even on the beach which allowed us to use our spotify account for music on the beach!
Overall, it was just a fantastic experience, from the accommodations, the food, the drinks, everything! We talked about our stay on the flight home and neither one of us could find anything that was not up to par that we could mention here!
Hats off to the staff at Secrets Maroma for a truly great vacation experience!

Activities Galore.
The beach is the nicest we have seen in Mexico and the hotel went over and above to deal with the seaweed. Hotel is awesome. Some furniture was dated but clean. Activities staff were always doing something and the wifi schedule and printed schedule allowed you
to plan your days. No reservations at the a la cartes was positive, never a line up.
Food was excellent. Management planned meal time entertainment several times and had a good variety of entertainment for everyone. Just little things[... read more] like Saxaphone player

Only negative was the fight for pool floaties. For such a small item resort should just buy more.

Relaxing romantic vacation
Beach
Under normal circumstances, the beach would be phenomenal and #1 on my list of “pros†below. While we were there there was a moderately bad seaweed epidemic. The resort did what it could to clean up the build up of seaweed at the shoreline (the first couple days it was men raking and they couldn’t make any progress but then the next several days there was a tractor which managed to clean most of it). There was nothing they could do about the seaweed in the water. Some spots in t[... read more]he ocean were completely brown and unswimmable but the majority had only a small amount of seaweed floating around and we swam several times. The last day (March 30) the wind had died down and it was much better.
Pros
Excellent service overall, most particularly at the restaurants where they were super friendly, polite and attentive. Food service was a little slow one night but otherwise well paced (i.e. about 1.5 hours for a 4 course dinner, the times I mention being slow was when we waited about 30 mins for our first plate of food). We had excellent drink service next to the pool and at the beds behind the beach.
6 a-la-carte restaurants, no reservations required and we never had to wait at all for a table which was FABULOUS (one night we ate at 6:30 and were basically the only ones at the restaurant, we also ate at 7-8pm when they were more full but still no wait)
Food ranged from very good to excellent. We only ate at the buffet for breakfast. Lunch we usually ate at the grill next to the pool which was both excellent and quick but also ate at the seaside grill 2 times. Supper we always ate at the a-la-cartes and while some of the dishes were only okay many of the them were delicious and we would have liked to have had enough time to go back a second time to almost all the restaurants. The desserts were a bit lacking, the only one we loved was the creme brulee at Bordeaux. The Hibachi table at Himitsu (where you sit around the grill and they cook in front of you) was a nice experience but warm in the private room (2 are in private rooms and one is in the central part of the restaurant). This was the only thing which required a reservation.
Very clean resort, most notably the washrooms at the beach, there was always staff there keeping them tidy (in my experience at other resorts, beach washrooms are messy)
Beach beds! There was a large number of beach beds that cost 50$ per day and included concierge service. We did not try those as I thought the price was ridiculous. There was also 5 beach beds directly behind the beach (with a view of the ocean), as well as maybe 10 beds near the pools. We spent most of the week at the beach beds behind the beach.
There was a wide variety of activities, and the staff were not annoying about getting people to participate. The one pool with the swim up bar was always super busy and more the “party pool†atmosphere whereas the other one was much calmer and quieter (even though they are right next to each other).
There are 2 whirlpools and the water is actually quite warm (at other resorts we’ve stayed at the whirlpools are no warmer than the swimming pools)
Cons
suites were a bit smaller than some other junior suites we’ve had at other resorts. We were told we were “upgraded†to a partial ocean view but that was a lie as partial ocean view is actually their lowest room category. Furthermore, since we were in the building farthest from the beach we actually couldn't see the ocean due to all the palm trees.
All the good spots got reserved very early (before 9am) but there are 2 signs next to the pools saying not to reserve spots and that personal articles could be removed if a spot was unoccupied for 30 mins. There was a few very rude people who left their stuff on the beach beds all day long and only showed up at 1pm or even as late as 4pm one day to use the bed. I found this extremely selfish given there are only 5 free beds behind the beach (not counting the ones on the beach that you had to pay) so after the first day we simply started remove peoples’ stuff if we saw that they hadn’t shown up as of late morning.
All beach beds should be free and only require an additional fee for concierge service. There was a dozen beds not being used every day because people didn't want to pay the fee!
There was a small lineup almost every morning at the buffet around 9am, simply because they were not fast enough at cleaning tables and getting people seated. Luckily it was only a 3-5 minute wait (one day 5-10 mins).
Air conditioning in the restaurants was not strong enough, my husband who had to wear long pants (but was in short sleeve shirts) was always too warm. It was more comfortable being outside with the breeze but a few times the patios were full and we had to eat indoors.
Internet in the rooms was poor and would disconnect frequently, but internet access around the pool and on the beach was consistently good.
Overall we loved this resort and would definitely recommend it!

Amazing Resort
We came to this resort to celebrate our honeymoon and were blown away! Never have we been to a resort with this level of service. The amazing staff are what makes this hotel unforgettable, it is quite clear that customer service is the single most important aspect here! We always felt so well taken care of, whether it was on the beach or at the pool there is almost never a reason to go to the bar because the servers are coming around so frequently. Have a nice spot and don't want to move for lun[... read more]ch? You can order food right to your sunbed. We rented a beach cabana for one day and had such a wonderful time that we decided to do it again for our last day. 50$ a day is well worth it! Food was excellent everywhere we went, from room service, to buffets and the a la cartes. They always had something going on as well for dinner, during the week we were there, there was a Mexican fiesta, a circus show and BBQ grill party all of which were outside buffets with a show of some sort. Only downside of these is that if you want a table for 2 they want you to buy a bottle of wine. As part of our honeymoon package we also received a massage at the spa - which was lovely and relaxing aside from the hard massage tables, the spa is beautiful and very relaxing atmosphere. We also received a romantic dinner on the beach which was stunning and the food/service were amazing. I think this hotel has spoiled me for any other as I have never received service like this before (this hotel was above our usual price range, but the difference was 100% worth it).
The room was beautiful ,we had a preferred club ocean view king suite and it was well worth it. Based on the reviews I had read I had low expectations of the kind of ocean view we would get, but 4th floor in building 16 we had an AMAZING view of the ocean. As part of the preferred club we also had access to an a la carte breakfast restaurant which we only used twice but was good both times. There was also a preferred club lounge but we didn't really use it other than at check in and to pay our balance.
The other thing we loved about this hotel was that there was no need to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve your lawn chair - we did notice that when there was an influx of people who came closer to American thanksgiving some people were doing this but not most - there is a sign that clearly states if you try to reserve a chair before 1030am they will remove the towels and we did see them enforcing this. Speaking of towels, another huge perk was that there was no towel cards!! Towels were plentiful and you could use as many as you wanted/refresh for dry ones, etc.
We would definitely come back here again and stay in a run of the mill room, even without the view or a swim-out this hotel is worth going back to. Special thanks to our concierge Roger who went above and beyond and truly seemed to care about our well being, Roberto was also great - simple things like finding out my husband wasn't feeling well and sending us up gatorade and crackers! Eduardo at the beach was also awesome and very "on top of it"making sure everything was going well for us when we rented the cabana.
I'm sure I've missed something, but overall - this hotel is 100% worth it, amazing service, amazing atmosphere, great food, STUNNING beach and beautiful pools.

Beautiful Beach, Great Service
Secrets Maroma is in the process of renovating their rooms and we stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms.
PROS:
* Adults only! No kids! Most of the people were couples. There were a few groups of women, but 95% couples.
* Excellent service everywhere. Beach drink/food service was constant and they brought you water without asking. They also bring around cold face cloths in afternoon and clean your sunglasses. Concierge called us by name and was very helpful.
* Beach is very [... read more]nice. Sand is white powder. No rocks in water or beach. Lots of palpas and chairs for sun or shade.
* Food is excellent. Montreal steak at Portofino restaurant is to die for. So tender you don't need a knife. The food quality is great. However, I found the selection to be lacking at the buffet. Most large resorts have a large buffet selection. There was plenty to eat - just not the selection that most large resorts offer.
* Nightly shows were entertaining and different than most resorts offer and are worth watching. They offer lots of daily and evening entertainment including foam party in pool, live size angry birds, Mexican bracelet making, spinning in pool, BB gun shooting, archery, mini golf, Texas hold em tournaments etc.
CONS:
* If you are a smoker, this is not the resort for you. When you check in, you have to sign a piece of paper that you will not smoke in your room OR ON THE BALCONY!!!!! (Which is absurd - I can understand in the rooms, but not in outdoor open areas) My husband smokes and felt like a criminal. There are only a couple designated smoking areas and you are not supposed to smoke anywhere except in those areas. People did smoke in the outdoor areas and on the beach, but had to do it very discretely.
* Air conditioning in our renovated room is movement activated. Therefore, it completely shuts off at night and it gets hot in the room. Whenever one of us woke up, we would have to get up and walk around in order to set off the sensor to start up the air conditioning. It was a major pain in the ass and it gets hot in the room real fast.
* Although the brochure states that there is a buffet for dinner, the World Cafe where it is supposed to happen is closed every night. A couple nights there is a buffet/show around the pool, but on some nights there is no buffet dinner.
* The Barefoot Grill was closed due to maintenance. There is a handout that you get every night telling you the activities etc for the next day. There was nothing on the handout to say the Barefoot grill was closed or that they had moved the food to the other side of the Seaside grill restaurant. They should have posted a sign on the Barefoot grill. We didn't know that you could get food elsewhere. Very poor communication, especially when they have a flyer going out every day. It should have been updated.
* We were told by the beach service staff one day that we could not sit at the beach under the palpa because we were only two people and were told to leave the beach area. This really made us angry and upset. Especially when on each side of us, there were two people under each palpa and they never said anything to them. This resort has too many rules. It's crazy.... don't smoke, don't sit here, don't do this.
I am giving this resort a 5 star because the beach was gorgeous and the service and food were excellent. The resort is very nice. I think every resort has problems and issues they need to fix and no resort is 100% perfect. Because the main elements of food, beach, service and accommodations were very good, I will give it 5 stars.

It was beautiful and first class... snow white beach, brilliant teal and vibrant blue ocean, beautiful grounds, pools, lots of space, great entertainment, fantastic food (repeat fantastic!) and amazing staff. Our week could not have been better.
Our standards are high, Secrets Maroma exceeded our expectations with a very romantic and relaxing get away.
We will be back next year [... read more](and we have never revisited the same resort twice before).

Nice Resort
It was a very nice hotel. The restaurants were great. Food was excellent. Very expensive spa. Pools are very well kept and the drinks are yummy. The beach is fantastic, you do not need water shoes at all, no rocks just pure white sand in the ocean.
The only thing we did not like was that the shows started a couple of hours after dinner so we were bored till they started.

Such a perfect getaway
This resort was absolutely fabulous . The gardens and grounds were gorgeous. The infrastructure was thoughtfully built so that you could enjoy private and common areas. The pools were great. Excellence at its best
We stayed at Secrets Maroma preferred club swim out to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Still among the best.
We travel to 5-star resorts annually for the past 20 years. This is our second time at this resort in three years. Mostly everything is still top notch and we'll continue to rank it among the best resorts we've ever visited. Food quality has come down though. The buffet is not as tasty, and the Japanese restaurant has gone from bad to disgusting. Also, DO NOT under any circumstance be misled into agreeing to sit through a sales pitch for their travel club. They tell you it'll take 1.5 hours when[... read more] in fact it runs as long as 3 hours for most. Even if you have time to waste, it's not worth the romantic dinner or the spa voucher. The spa is incredible and definitely worth a visit to, so just pay for your own treatments and save yourself the obnoxious sale pitch. Finally, I would greatly urge everyone to book a swim-out room. The pool is heated, semi-private, and a great amenity to enjoy in the evenings!

Amazing resort
This is a lovely resort. The service from all staff is excellent. Our concierge was very attentive and all staff provided prompt service with a smile. The only drawback for us was the tour of the property and hard sales pitch from staff selling time share/vacation packages. We were offered spa credits for taking the tour and sitting through the sales pitch. Even with the credits, I would not recommend this unless you really are interested in buying a package.
The beach is exceptional and pool ar[... read more]ea is great as well.
Generally, the food is excellent in the restaurants. We were a bit disappointed with our steaks at the steakhouse. The tepanyaki restaurant was very good, but if you are having steak, tell them how you want it cooked unless you like well done.
We were disappointed with our ocean view room. We were a long way from the water and could see only a bit of the ocean over the trees.Probably not worth the upgrade. The rooms were very nice, but a bit dark.
