Comparing it to the last time we were there, there were some changes made, not necessarily for the better. The Seafood Restaurant that we enjoyed for lunch as well as dinner was not in use. You had to reserve a spot in the Mexican restaurant, which apparently was only available every other day. The reservation setup took quite a while to get an order placed, if your required area to dine still had availability to take you in.

Casa Marina and Reef enjoyable but.......
I have nothing to compare this trip to as it was my first time here but generally a pleasant trip. For myself, there were a few minor problems like a closet door that didn't work properly, a patio door that wouldn't open, and a phone that fell apart every time we used it.the door issues were looked after quickly, the phone remains a mystery!
Judy and I were the lucky ones because several others in our group had other problems like no water for days, no hot water for showers, leaking ceilings,
[... read more]There is a difference between ECONOMY and SUB-STANDARD and some in this group met the latter with no offers of "safety" upgrades.
However, personally, our room was well serviced each day, cleaned, fresh towels, etc.
Beautiful and well kept grounds, excellent variety and availability of choice in the dining area, friendly and helpful service staff.
Transat rep was informative and honest in group care and available for some part of every day.
Overall, I enjoyed my trip, but would not repeat unless the offer was reasonable and NOT in the part of the resort that has not been updated.
Manuela, thank you for your efforts on our behalf.

Nice Resort, However
Overall, this is a nice resort. Good food, 3 restaurants with good but limited dishes. Same dishes everynight in restaurant. The buffet has more choices and preparation is just as good.
The room was nice and clean with a fridge to keep your drinks cold and was stocked everyday with water and pop
My disapointment comes with the lack of a 24 hr bar. (No, I don't drink) but if you want a cup of coffee or tea or pop after 1am and before 7am, your out of luck.
Also, the lack of 2 keys to [... read more]your room leaves you with limited options as to your activities. Example, if I wanted to go golfing, or on an excursion and my partner preferred to stay at the resort, I might be stuck outside somewhere till they come back from wherever they decided to go while I was gone.. NO, they will not give you another key, even if you are willing to pay extra for it. (1 person to a room=1 key. 2 people to a room = 2 keys) It seems that would be pretty easy to do;.
Overall, good clean resort with good service if your willing to put up with those issues

Wonderful staff
This is a wonderful resort, in saying this you must remember this is a 3 star resort . So to the people who stay in select side stop bitching. If you want a 5 star then pay for it.
In saying this we love it it , the staff is wonderful and always happy and pleasant. We feel safe travelling outside in the town. So much to do and see. We will be back.

Our home away from home - Just love this resort
It's a beautiful resort, well maintained. The staff is wonderful. Rooms are clean and some are renovated with modern glass shower. Even non-renovated rooms are just fine - we don't spend much time in them.
Though not as full as it used to be pre-Covid, so more Domenican families are there on the weekends, which is great for them, but can be very loud.
The food is always excellent in the buffet and we also enjoyed the Italian a la carte. The Casa beach is a bit rough, but pool(s) are awesom[... read more]e.
Great bang for your buck and we can't wait to go back again in March 2023.
Oh, and the town of Sosua is right off the resort to the right - great little bars and restaurants and some owned by Canadians... You'll love it.

Casa marina reef resort
Overall not a bad vacation - Select side rooms were renovated and clean.
Food was above average, staff were friendly and polite.
Only negative was beach - closed 5 of the 7 days we were there due to high waves. Had to walk to other beaches nearby to swim in the ocean.
Close to town and restaurants nearby.

Casa Marina Review
Great large pool with rooms surrounding it. Both beaches were closed due to abnormal waves which was a disappointment to us however we went by taxi to Cabarete Beach and loved it. The dining room greeters were amazing, very friendly and personable. The rooms were clean and well air conditioned. All hand sanitizers were empty though and there were a few guests who were not feeling well with flu like symptoms. They seem to have a problem with wasps in the outdoor bar area and in pool. For the pric[... read more]e we paid and it being listed as a 3 star we are satisfied with our trip.

Great Value for Money
Just came back from 12 days staying on in a Garden view room on the Reef side of the resort. This resort is about 75% renovated, with most of the first two buildings (rooms starting with a 2) not having been updated yet. Our room was not updated, but it was clean and the king bed was very comfortable.
The resort is very large, and the terrain is a bit rough with stone pathways that are uneven. Walking in flipflops on the stone was hard on my back personally. But I found that avoiding the stone[... read more] pathways and taking short cuts through the other newer buildings when on my way to the buffet or beach helped a lot.
Housekeeping was wonderful, but there was sometimes a shortage of towels. They would all be in the laundry and we ended up without a bathmat or a hand towel a few times. But fresh pool towels were always available, unlike some other resorts we have stayed at.
FOOD: Unless you are on the Select side of this resort there is not always food available. We found that the paperwork that the front desk gave us did not have the correct times for when the buffet was open. So if you want food on demand you might want to book Select. Buffet food was good. You will always find something good to eat, even if the selection isn't huge. If you are a coffee snob, book Select. We were surprised to see that at the buffet they made big pots of instant coffee and it was very bad. Considering the DR is famous for it's coffee this was disappointing. There was a coffee machine at the first beach bar but it was broken the whole time we were there. I really hope they fix this and upgrade the coffee in general. They can't be saving that much money using instant. There were two a-la-carte's available, Mexican and Italian. We had Italian twice and Mexican once and they were both very good.
Staff were mostly very nice. There were of course a few rock stars, and a few we preferred to avoid. The bar staff are great and try to be fair and serve people in order. The wait staff at the buffet had a strange system where one person seats you, another will set your cutlery place setting, then another pours your water, and another asks if you want anything to drink, then a different person clears your plates. So this ends up making for a very impersonal experience and at times we felt quite overlooked (no one would come ask for our drink order throughout the entire dinner) and this I think reduces their opportunities for getting better tips as it made it hard to get to know staff. Even in the a-la-carte's they mostly operated like this. We have had much better service at other resorts? But the staff is working very hard, I think it is just how they are trained and how the management operates the place. I think this could use improvement. If they had smaller sections and smaller "crews" in each section they could pay more attention to their tables.
WIFI is crappy. Don't get it. Walk a block away to a Claro (big red sign) or an Altice (blue signage) store. Those are the two main phone companies and they will sell you a SIM card for 100 pesos (about $2US) and a data plan for the duration of your stay. We bought a $6 package that gave us 10Gb of data for 14 days and we had service wherever we went all over resort and off. Then you can communicate with people back home over any app like messenger or whatsapp etc. Whereas wifi is $25USD per device per week and you have to be in a few specific locations to get it to work. There were packages for $3 so if you are there for a week you'd pay $5 instead of $25 and get to use maps and other apps while you are off resort.
Other pro tips. If you are on Reef side and like going out for breakfast. Walk down the stairs to the public beach, take three steps around the corner of the rock wall and then go up the stairs to the Waterfront restaurant. There you can get the best service, bacon eggs toast hash-browns and amazing coffee for around $3-$5 and its so nice there, and relaxing and the view is just amazing. Great for a treat day and cool photo op spot. They have a full menu of other stuff too.
Jolly Rogers bar is a fun spot to check out in the evening between dinner and disco time. They are about 3.5 blocks away and they have special events like Karaoke and Bingo and its just a really fun vibe. Great staff and inexpensive food and drinks. Free wifi, just ask your waitress for the password. Great chicken wings! There is a small Playero store 3 blocks away from the resort that is a small grocery store to pick up snacks etc. And there is a Pharmacy right beside it that has vitamins, drugs and other stuff. And we found another grocery store a bit further where we bought coffee to bring home for much cheaper called Super Pola. It was around 10 blocks to walk there. There is a huge Playero (it's like a Walmart) on the highway as you drive in on the bus to the hotel, but it is really expensive. You can find things cheaper almost anywhere else.
Casa Marina was perfect for what we needed. An inexpensive getaway in the sun. I hear the Select side is very nice, so if you prefer five star make sure to book over there. We called ourselves "genpop" and poked a bit of fun at our friends who were staying on the other side because we were not allowed over there. But we all mixed on the beach and at the lobby bar at night. Good times. Made some great friends. We would most definitely return.

Casa Marina Reef and Beach
This was my 9th time to Casa Marina had a fantastic time with family and friends. I realize October is off season so it was rather quiet.
I don't remember having issues with the water like I did this time.
Rarely had hot water.. lukewarm at best and the water pressure was very poor.
There was so animation around the main pool like other times as well.
The shows they have at the amphitheater don't start till 9:45
In my opinion too late after spending a day in the sun or on an excursion[... read more].
There is not alot to do at night on resort unless you want to drink or go into Sosua
If rest and relaxation is what your looking for this resort is it.
Food was typical buffet food so if you get tired of it you can always venture into town and eat relatively cheap.
Sosua beach is a must especially the Pina Colada in a fresh pineapple ðŸ
April 2nd I am back fi8r 2 weeks.

Another great stay
This was my 8 or 9th time at Casa Marina I have list count.
The resort is in the town of sosua and this is one of the many attractions to this resort.
The resort itself is very well kept the grounds and beautiful.
The main attraction for me are the 3 cool pools where you can relax, have a drink and meet people from all over.
The food was good I actually put on a pound or 2.
We are booked for October already a group of 10

we have been to this resort many many times and we have never had the problems we had this time. ask to change the room the first night, told to come back at 10 in the morning.. we went back at 10 and was told which room we could have.. and the one is the one that we liked, but was told to come back again at 3, we did and was given a key to a different room which was not the one that we were told we were going to get, so we just stayed in the 1st room which we weren;t crazy about,, but, what ca[... read more]n you do.. then at the end of our stay we ask for late check out.. was told again to come back.. we did.. told to come back again. then the morning of our last day was told we could not get late check out (our flight was leaving at 10:30pm) finally after more talks we finally got late check out.. had to pay 28 which we were glad to do. and sorry to say, but the staff were not that friendly or nice. seems things have changed .. like i said we have been here at least 7 times and never had a problem at all.. Good time!
While my room was basic and dated, it was clean and had what I needed. The food was good and a variety to choose from. The cold tubs were lovely with a beautiful view. The only complaint was the staff, other than Jose who is a great bartender, they were less than friendly. All in all, we had a great time!

Not so good
Grounds were nice. Rooms not so good, first time I paid for safe in room, bed sheets did not get changed every day, no face cloth, 1 hand towel for 2 people, 1 glass per room, TV did not work and several different kinds of flying, crawling insects, they did fumigate the rooms. Great spot
Location and setting are fantastic. Great value for the money. Could use a some more scrutiny of the loungers and the towel game but not a deal breaker. We will return again definitely.
The buffet is good and other restaurants mediocre.
Staff are fantastic and very friendly.
