Definitely NOT a 5 star hotel

We booked at Secrets The Vine because it was listed as a 5 star hotel. However, we firmly disagree with this rating, as we would never consider this hotel to be a 5 star rated hotel because of the following: 1. Quality and cleanliness of the rooms. Mattress and bedding was of very poor quality. 2. Cleanliness of the pool and beach leaves a lot to be desired. 3. Noisy and party-like atmosphere where it is nearly impossible to find peace and quiet (a 5 star hotel should NEVER resemble a spring- [... read more]breakers hotel). 4. Persistent and pushy sales pitch that was basically force-fed to us to sell us a dubious vacation club with questionable quality and which seemed plagued with dishonesty. More importantly, this whole thing took half a day, which basically ruined the day for us. One of the few good areas in this hotel is the human quality of the majority of the staff (cafe, restaurants, etc.). These are genuinely great and valuable people. The hotel itself is "fake fancy".

Great vacation!

We have just returned from a one-week stay at the Vine, and had an amazing week. We did not book with Preferred Club for this stay as those rooms are on the higher floors in this high rise and I don’t like heights. Our request for a low floor was accommodated, complete with ocean view. The floor numbers are a bit confusing. The lobby doesn’t have a floor number, so think of it as zero (like in Europe) with the floor above it as one. But they like four digit room numbers so they add an  [... read more]extra zero and call that the 10th floor. ( In other words, the second floor is 10. ) The Preferred Club pool and three of the restaurants (Grill, Italian and Mediterranean) are on 12, which is actually the fourth floor. This is a “no dinner reservation needed” resort, so it’s good to check in with your preferred choice before you go for that pre-dinner drink and grab a pager. All of the restaurants were excellent, including the three above, the Asian in the lobby, and the seafood restaurant near the pool/beach. The buffet has a great selection for breakfast and lunch, and turns into a Mexican a la carte for dinner, which we didn’t try. Overall service was excellent with just a couple of glitches — had to get our own coffee one morning at buffet and one lunch at Sea Salt Grill was overly long — both due to staff shortages. But these were blips compared to the excellent service we received all week. Vladimir at Olio (Mediterranean) was our favourite waiter. The three pools were all clean (and warm). Towels are plentiful. There is not a swim-up bar but there are two bars on either side of the two ocean-front pools. Service was very attentive at the pools and the beach. The beach here is very spacious, nice white sand, no seaweed during our stay - definitely nicer than what we have experienced at several resorts between here and Playa Del Carmen. But it was super windy during our stay and rough water for swimming. There was the usual towel game among those who wanted to be beside a bar or the jacuzzi or in one of the Bali beds, but there were always loungers available somewhere. There is no smoking at the pools but the designated areas are easily accessible - the Vine outdoor bar off the lobby, the beach, and sofas along the walkway (a few steps up from the pools) that connect the lobby to the beach. No smoking on balconies. Our room was clean and spacious, with a large balcony. The minibar includes beer and soft drinks but no spirits or wine. There were separate his and hers sinks, which was nice, but no countertop space for a makeup bag, etc. A great hairdryer but the only place to plug it in with a mirror was in the bathroom, away from the AC vent. The bathroom setup is not for the shy ... a glassed in toilet which might as well not have had a door lol. Check in and check out was smooth. We declined the club sales presentation and this was accepted graciously ... after a few good tries. Overall, we would recommend this resort. It is good value for your dollar.

Amazing!

We travel a lot and are probably in Cancun once per year. I’m also extremely picky in choosing where I stay. I’m 28 and work running two company’s so often need to get away. We usually stay at the Paradisus, but because of the Reno’s going on we opted to try the Secrets property. I’ve always noticed it from the beach and it looks stunning but now was I blown away when actually staying here. Super clean, great service couldn’t ask for anything more. We opted to upgrade our room upon arrival (in hindsight, you don’t really need to spend on it as we felt the service was the same for both privilege and non privilege. With that being said the room that we were upgraded too was incredible. We will be back for sure, and will try to book the bigger room if available.

Always Amazing

This was our 5th stay at Secrets the Vine we return because of the amazing experience. You are greeted with a warm welcome and glass of bubbly when you arrive . The linear fireplace in the lobby is very inviting even in Mexico. The lobby is nicely appointed, welcoming and cozy. The rooms are nicely appointed functional, comfortable beds and a balcony to enjoy views of the ocean, sunrise and sunset. The staff in all area's are courteous, professional and caring they really do make it a great experience. We all have our favourites when it comes to food we find all the restaurants very good both food and service. Food choices are good we stayed 9 days and enjoyed dinning the entire stay. Room service menu's are also good should you choose that experience. There are three pools to sit around each has it's own feel and the beach is great too. Entertainment is quite enjoyable, the activity people are good. The resort is well maintained, very clean with great ambiance. There are many beautiful resorts to choose from in Cancun we choose to return to Secrets the Vine because of the experience, we have never been disappointed. It's also great to see the same staff with each return visit. Would recommend a stay at Secrets the Vine if you want to pamper yourself, we look forward to our next!

Beautiful resort

This is our first time in Cancun, We had a wonderful time at secret the Vine. The staff overall was friendly, when we arrived at hotel to check in, they try to sell us preferred club membership, and bring us to different floors to see the rooms, charge $100/day extra, we denied this offer, in the end we didn't get any upgrade for our 30 years anniversary, we checked in on 20th floor a room, 5 minuses later, front desk called to move us to 11th floor, saying there was a mistake, and this room w [... read more]as booked by other guest. Overall, the service and the food was excellent. I will recommend to my friend.

Amazing Honeymoon!

Our stay was amazing! We went for our honeymoon and it was exactly what we were looking for. Relaxing yet still a lot of activities to participate in and very close to all the activities outside the hotel. The restaurants were delicious and the people were so nice!

Below what we expected....

I can start with the good qualities of the hotel. Their best restaurant is the Asian one where the food was amazing and the second best one is their steakhouse. Good breakfast buffet and Ricardo (one of the servers) was very professional and friendly. That's the only good qualities I can share in this review. Bad qualities of the hotel: First of all, I got food poisoned the second last day of our stay through an order from room service, and my girlfriend has been having an upset stomach s [... read more]ince then. After three days, I'm still dealing with diarrhea. Second, we ordered room service 3 times total and every time it took close to 90 mins or more for them to deliver. 2 times we fell asleep as it took so long. So make sure to eat before 11 PM at one of the restaurants and don't rely on room service food. Third, we paid extra to be "preferred guests," which we didn't really see any difference from regular guests. It's not worth it to pay an additional amount to be a "preferred guest" here. At the Mediterranean restaurant, they weren't even willing to give us a table by the pool because those tables were for only people who buy a bottle of wine. Seriously? We paid so much extra to be a preferred guest, and you can't even give us a table by the pool? Forth, one of the swimming pools (The one people usually play volleyball) definitely needs renovation. The steps were sharp, and a couple of areas in the pool had that rough touch. Lastly, the entertainment team was very inconsistent. We were very interested in sports activities, especially volleyball and one day they were there and one they were not. Other couples were also not happy about this.

Beautiful but needs more...

This hotel was beautiful, well kept and the beach is outstanding. I really don’t have anything bad to say as a vacation is what you make of it but it would have been nice to have some dancing and a little more to offer in the evenings. By 10 pm the place was dead and there was really nothing to do. But all in all it was a fabulous resort and I would recommend it!

Fabulous Resort

We visited Secrets the Vine Cancun for a conference and added a few days on to make the stay one week long in March 2019. The unit was beautiful, a corner unit with a surrounding balcony. It was very nicely decorated and very homey. It was clean. The staff could not do enough for you. Every time you turned around they were there to help with a chair or serviette. One trip is fine but for someone who spends some time on the beach, it becomes irritating. The other thing, it is advertised that each person gets a free round of golf a day at another secret in Cancun. Unfortunately, that is not the case. It cost us 150 round trip US, and a 99 service fee for each golfer. It was very disappointing as the golf manager would not budge one cent. There were 5 of us golfing and the course was not busy. This is something that should be addressed as it is misleading. Thank you.

Exceeded expectations

Secrets, The Vine, Cancun lived up to their claim of "unlimited Luxury". This resort and trip was first class all the way. Our hotel transfer from the airport was seamless and did not take long. They were very organized at the airport and we were connected with the transfer company quickly. The drive was direct to our hotel and took only about 20 minutes. We were greeted as we arrived and taken to check in. We received a glass of champagne on arrival. The check in was handled well with informat [... read more]ion clearly explained. The bell hop took our bags and on the way to the elevator, we met a representative for V.I.P services (beware). The rep tells you he wants to explain the room credit ($200.00 USD) you received for staying there, which he does, but then proceeds to tell you of a further $400.00 USD you can receive and how it can be used. In the cryptic explanation we discovered that to earn this extra credit we had to endure a breakfast meeting with a rep who would explain the "packages" that they offer for long term commitment to their brand. We declined to persistent, but very polite attempts to get us to meet. Anyway, that is a part of their deal so we were persistent in declining as we didn't really have any interest in that, so don't know if its a good deal or not. We went to our room which was quiet nice in its appointments but was simply a king bed suite. Basic, but quite nice and all we needed. This was the "room of the day, run of the house" deal that saved us over $1000 overall. In speaking with guests who stayed in the preferred levels, they didn't seem to have benefits over and above ours that we felt would have been worth the extra money, although we could have upgraded if we wanted to. The resort is spotless, the staff are excellent, and we developed fun relationships with bartenders and servers in both restaurants and bar service areas, like the pool area, and various bars and lounges inside the resort There were may options and different types of food available. The resort is dedicated to make it a resort where you can relax, enjoy fun times, but it is definitely NOT a party resort and if anyone gets a bit loud or boisterous, staff are quick to address it. They also follow some reasonable guidelines where they can restrict a patrons alcohol intake if it seems that they are getting drunk and out of control. We liked this and felt comfortable knowing that staff watched for this. Security at the resort from what we saw, is second to none. There are staff at the entrance to the front gate, and at the stairway to the beat who take your name and room number, and check it against the master list they are given. It is unlikely that people who don't belong there can get in to the grounds easily. Security also monitors the halls, making sure doors are not left open. We didn't realize that the door handle required and extra action to ensure it closed, and security came to our door to explain that they had found our door unlocked, which was good, but we hadn't been told about this when the bell hop brought us to the room. There are plenty of good lounge chairs, and an abundance of pool towels so you don't ever run out. Great vacation and we loved it.

Very modern resort

Have been various Secrets in Mexico, like the chain but this is my least favourite...Disappointed in the food, drink was not be top shelf, ...........entertainment was very good, and pool area and beach were lovely... Room we were upgraded ,,wonderful just disappointed that they tried to ask us to pay for it,,,when we said no,,,we had the room anyhow.......Not the way to impress, Only recommend those who want a metro holiday not a resort holiday...

Secrets The Vine was an excellent resort

The hotel was beautiful as was the service, staff and entertainment. We felt like royalty and no pressure to stick to schedules. There was plenty to do on the resort and meals were amazing. The only disappointment was the extended wait to get a table at the steak place. No reservations taken, first come first serve with no guarantee of a seating for dinner. The wait was in excess of two hours and our meal was served at 11:00 p.m.. The buffets and Sea Salt restaurants were our favourites. Shouts  [... read more]go out to many staff i.e. the Chef in buffet area who came out to greet us as well as Alonzo, Luis in the entertainment area around the pool, and Sergio our drink server around the pool. Everyone we encountered was incredibly helpful. We would definitely recommend the place to friends and family and return for a second visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Had an amazing time!

Great Resort with Views to Spare

We booked this trip on Debbie Maguire's advice and couldn't be happier. We were in the Junior Suite Ocean View (Every room has an ocean view though) and upgrade to the prestige club which also got us upgraded to Options plus with Transat (with Debbie's help) The resort was beautiful, the food was great and the service was at the level we've come to expect at AM resorts. Absolutely perfect!!!

Secrets on the vine was the best resort to escape and find yourself at the same time. Perfect everything!!! You have to go to the spa. The deep tissue massage was the best I have ever had. I had to book another before I left ! It was that awesome.

Beautiful resort

This hotel was stunning. The lobby, the restaurants, the rooms, the pools, everything was so nice. We really enjoyed the friendly staff, who were also quick to help or get you whatever you wanted. Nothing was a problem. The entertainment staff was a joy, especially Valeria. She went out of her way to deliver a fun Valentine's certificate and printed us a few photos that were taken of us on the beach. The food was also delicious with lots of variety. We ate in all the restaurants and can honest [... read more]ly say they were all fabulous. The only critic I would have is there should be a few more inclusive choices for red wine. The two offered as house wines were okay but I would have liked some variety without having to pay for an overpriced bottle of wine.

The shine is somewhat off our favourite Secrets

This hotel is still our favourite Secrets, but it was a little disappointing this time for two reasons. We stayed from Feb 10th to 17th celebrating my birthday and Valentine’s Day. The accommodations and food were excellent, but by the 14th dozens of 20 somethings from a company called Eight Eleven had descended wreaking havoc. They would have been much more comfortable at Breathless. We go to Secrets because it is an upscale adult venue and we always buy preferred. We don’t like screami [... read more]ng children, but screaming 20 something’s are almost worse. We are also UVC members are were told that we would always have access to late checkout. Secrets the Vine did not honour that commitment this time and made us leave the room at 1:00 even though our flight wasn’t until 8:25. Overall it was still an awesome holiday just a little disappointing due to these factors.

Great Vacation

We really enjoyed our stay at Secrets the Vine, everything from the amazing staff and the modern property. The resort is geared towards couples and filled will activities from day until night. The entertainment staff was very fun and did a great job at keeping everyone busy at the pool. The beach was beautiful but can be a little rough at times but the 3 pools are a great alternative. If you are looking for an upscale and relaxing hotel I totally recommend Secrets the Vine.

Excellent resort

Beautiful view Everything was excellent and very clean. staff was great. food was amazing. Best honeymoon ever. also I would go back to this resort if I have a chance to go on vacation again. thanks to air transat also.

Spectacular getaway

Exceptional staff at every turn, bar and waitstaff friendly and accommodating. Wonderful chefs preparing amazing dishes or something to your exact order. Pristine pool and beach access. Security is obviously a priority. Scenic views at every angle - especially the gym! Professionalism at its finest, a first class resort.

Amazing Resort

This resort surpassed our expectations. The entire property is kept very clean with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff in all departments are friendly and accommodating, always asking if there is anything further they can do to make your stay more enjoyable. The food was top quality and we enjoyed the fact that the Marche cafe was an a la carte menu for dinner and not a buffet style. There was a nice variety of restaurants to choose from. The only negative would be that the lighting in the Asian restaurant was too dark to be able to read the menu. Although we did not participate in any activities the daily morning exercise at the beach and the noon swim arobics were well attended. The beach area was beautifully appointed and clean, and the staff constantly around to enquire if we required a drink or anything. Towels were easily acceptable and we enjoyed the fact that we did not have to sign in for a towel, but could take as many as we needed. Although our room was comfortable and clean, we did have problems working out the lighting panel.
