Huge resort with a cozy intimate feel due to the lush grounds intricate design (and wildlife) that transform it. The people/staff are amazing and deserve tremendous credit. Little things like not having to make reservations for restaurants, or having to come down early morning to (reserve) get a great spot on the beach were a wonderful surprise to us. The evening entertainment was next level. (imagine an evening of art and entertainment taking place throughout the resort: dancers, singers, music[... read more]ians, food, stilt walkers, artists all dressed in elaborate costume). The food was for the most part was excellent with the occasional miss, but as good as any this 67 year old body has experienced at multiple resorts. I have been on better beaches (mostly in the Dominican) but this one was lovely and very well maintained. Security was excellent. The only surprise was the gentleman next door that returned to his room from the late night disco at 3am that had to repeatedly practice the F-Bomb and occasionally mentioned Putin. The most significant disadvantage to the resort, and it has nothing to do with the resort, is its distance from the airport. Its an hour at least depending on number of drop offs. Make sure your transportation is organized. Ours through Air Canada vacations was not.

Wonderful resort!
This resort has beautiful pools (3), lovely tropical grounds, impeccable service by all staff, and amazing food in ALL restaurants! The beach is also well laid out with lots of palapas, and great snorkelling. It takes a day or so to find everything on this resort though because it’s so sprawling and pathways are roundabout. Not a biggy once you figure it out. The only thing I was a little put out by was that by 4:00 pm the events teams would ask you to move out of the way so they could set up [... read more]tables and chairs around the pools. And, yes, usually at all 3 pools were large corporate events, every night. Felt a bit like being at a business hotel versus a leisure hotel. Otherwise, we loved it!

Best Secrets in Mexico
After a second visit, the resort was still fresh (more lush now) and very well maintained. Nothing looked tired after 4 years. The restaurants are basically the same at each Secrets (food & service is pretty good) and little wait time, if any. Plan for > 1 hour travel from airport. Beech was well maintained (no seaweed outbreak this time) and good snorkeling. Pool area dining each night was just ok (table service was inconsistent). Brand name alcohol everywhere. Only peeve was 30 minute w[... read more]ait for luggage at reception (got my own in the end) & a friend's arrival gift was never delivered.

Excellent Resort
Everything about this resort was excellent from the moment we arrived in the breathtaking lobby. The room, grounds and restaurants were all beautiful and the food was very good. It had a pool for people who wanted a lot of activity as well as a pool for those who wanted a more peaceful experience. The beach was also very nice, although it could get a bit busy as the day went on since it is a public beach. What really stood out was the service of those who worked there. Every employee we encount[... read more]ered were so friendly and helpful and went above and beyond to make your experience a pleasant one. While this resort was a bit further from the airport (hour and half), it was absolutely worth it and we wouldn’t hesitate to book again!

Amazing Resort
This hotel is fantastic, everything about it is great and I am having a hard time to find things to complain about. The maintenance team is the best and keep everything in order at all times. The food was the best as well and we left every meal extremely satisfied.

Most amazing trip ever
This place hit everything on our list ! Most importantly the surroundings are so beautiful . The attention to detail to the the whole resort is impeccable . From the moment you walk into the lobby you will be in awe of its natural beauty and zen like feel. The resort is the perfect size . Not too big and not too small and very easy to get around . There are always little surprises around every corner and if you appreciate landscape design the way I do , you will love it as well. The service was [... read more]wonderful . Everyone makes you feel special. We went on the bike tour ( offered by the resort ) and snorkelled quite a bit on site. We also walked through Tulum to Yal Kul lagoon where you can also do plenty of snorkelling . We brought our own gear but you can also rent there as well.
The food was spectacular and we marvelled at all the selection in the market cafe . My husband loved the Frogs Legs they served at the Japanese restaurant ( first time he had them ). I can’t say anything negative about this place . 5 star all the way !

Beautiful Beach!
The hotel was beautiful and service impeccable. The beach was the best I have been to in Mexico. The food was not the best I have had but was OK. All in all a great vacation but would love to have had a better experience with the dining. Portofino restaurant was the best option for a la carte.

Third times’s a charm!
Secrets Akumal is such a splendid resort and we love everything about it from the time we arrive until our departure. We spend our days at the beach and head over to the quiet pool (we call it our spa pool) for the late afternoon. We love dropping in at the Coco Cafe for our tea and sweet pastries. The Seaside restaurant is our favourite as they have a salad bar and that what I love to eat. My husband raves over the turf/meat options and says the way they are cooked over the charcoal grill leave[... read more]s them so tender. Compliments to the chef of course!
The resorts along this stretch of beach have strung floating nets to catch the seaweed before it reaches the shoreline and this has made a great impact on the amount of it which reaches the shore. Less work for the workers to take up now and less of it in the waters too.
I just want to go back again and again as each day is heaven when we’re there.

Amazing Resort - Everything was perfect!!
It's rare that I write reviews but wanted to share the awesome experience at Secrets Akumal. This resort is top notch - from food, service, drinks, the rooms, beach. Everything was amazing. We tried to find something to "complain" about but there truly wasn't anything.
The resort is ~1.5 hour ride from the airport but the Akumal/Tulum area offers the nicer beaches. Although this beach had some seaweed it was cleared daily and the ocean remained clear with beautiful fish constantly swimming [... read more]around you. Snorkling is very big here with equipment available at the dive shop if you do not want to bring your own. You never have to struggle for a beach chair or umbrella and towels are at an abundance - no need to hang on to it with fear of having to pay $25USD if lost! Amazing. The beach was a wide stretch of white sand, with daily activities (no pressure to participate), beach bar with swings, and the most amazing beach service ever. Thank you Francisco!
The resort is visually stunning - feels very zen - and beautiful vegetation everywhere, and super clean.
There are 3 pools, again, with daily fun activities and the ability to participate as much or as little as you like. Each day there is a specialty lunch served pool side (paella, pizza, bbq) in addition to a number of restaurants open for lunch. You can also order off a menu beach side delivered right to your beach chair. The service all over the resort was outstanding.
The rooms were awesome with everything you need - very modern, clean, jacuzzi. We had the swim out which was beautiful. Room service typically arrives within 30 minutes, which you order off on Ipad, and a secret box available if you do not want to be disturbed when delivered or when dishes need pick up There is a flat screen tv with multiple channels in all languages. You can also order drinks via room service. It would be nice to have bar service at the swim up rooms if I had to offer a suggestion.
There are a number of restaurants to choose from (no reservations required) in addition to theme nights. During our 5 day stay they had Taco Fest, Mexican Night and Brazilian Night, all outstanding if you wish to forego the restaurants. We tried Oceania (seafood) x 2 which was amazing. Be prepared to wait up to 1.5 hours for the entire dining experience as it is quite leisurely.
There is nightly entertainment in the lobby (live music), vendors x 2 nights, shows and disco, which we did not try so unable to comment. It was a bit quiet at night so if you're looking for a "party" resort, this is not it, but there are a number of entertainment options available. The overall feel is relaxing and being pampered from the minute you arrive to when you leave. It is primarily couples and all ages with something for everyone.
Overall, amazing, amazing. Would definitely recommend / return.

Beautiful resort with Great Service
Lush tropical settting is beautiful. Resort is laid out well so that you never feel overwhelmed by the number of guests. Best food and entertainment venues that we have experienced at an all inclusive. Room deal of the day was great deal - a king tropical view - very nice in room amenities. We were in building 7 which was centrally located to everything. We were celebrating a special anniversary and we had door banner, sparkling wine, and a very special surprise dessert when we dine[... read more]d at the Bordeaux restaurant. What sets this resort apart is the fantastic service! We would visit again!

Secrets Akumal Paradise!
This is our second visit to Secrets Akumal, as we went for a week in November 2018, and then a 10 day trip in March 2019. Both booked with Jenn Black at Trip Central.
This adults only all-inclusive resort has everything we want in a vacation destination, situated in a ‘jungle’ of palm trees and other foliage. There are wide walkways in amongst all of this fauna which connect all of the buildings to the eating areas, the pools, the beach, and various other places. Such a feast for the sens[... read more]es.
Any of the staff we interacted with appeared genuinely happy to be doing what they were doing, and our housekeeper, Sebastian, was so friendly and full of smiles. Our room was so bright and airy, and immaculately cleaned every day, with the fridge restocked.
We enjoyed a few days of room service for breakfast, which we took on the balcony, as the birds chirped and the breeze was blowing through the palm trees. We loved when they would set up for an outdoor buffet, of which were the Mexican and Italian buffets. They set everything up to the nines with fresh linens and decor.
Three pools to choose from and a large beach area. The beach can get noisy as many tourists from other areas come to swim and snorkel off of the beach to see the turtles. Many tour groups as well. The resort staff have a good process in place to keep non-Secrets visitors out of the Secrets beach area and loungers.
Fantastic resort, and worth the hour and a half drive from the airport. Will definitely be returning.

Fantastic resort
This hotel is wonderful. There is a wide variety of restaurants which allowed us to try a different restaurant every day of our stay. The food was always delicious and they clearly care a great deal about making sure everything is both tasty and well-presented. They don't have a lot of vegetarian options, but they're clearly working on it and have more than other places we've been.
The pools are great too - they have a couple of pools with more noise and activities, but they also have a beauti[... read more]ful one that's the designated quiet pool for peaceful lounging. The poolside drink service is top notch. They don't provide straws due to the local sea turtle population, so we brought our own reusable metal ones which worked great. Speaking of sea turtles, we saw four of them snorkeling off the beach, so they're definitely around. The location allows for day trips to Mayan sites, including Tulum and Chichen Itza, which are worth visiting. Overall, we had an incredible time.

Beautiful Resort
Secrets Akumal is a beautiful resort located in Tulum - Riviera Maya. Please note anybody interested, this is almost 1.5 hour away from Cancun Airport. Kindly, factor that in based on your flight schedule. We were at the resort last week for an early anniversary trip and had a great time. It feels like you are in a rainforest with lush green surroundings and birds chirping everywhere. Occasionally, we even spotted Iguana (Huge Garden Lizard). This was our third trip to Mexico and hands down n[... read more]obody can match their level of service. Everything from restaurants to housekeeping is top notch. We really enjoyed dining at Market Cafe for breakfast and lunch. For dinner we preferred Portofino and Himitsu (they have enough choices for Vegan/Vegetarian/Seafood). Beach is beautiful with white sand and clear water - al lot of seaweed that cleaners are constantly clearing out. It's a great place if you enjoy snorkelling and other water sports. There is one point I would like to highlight - the beach is not as private as one would expect. In Mexico beaches are public and hence, you will see people from other resorts sitting right in front of you on the beach - really wish the resort staff can set some boundaries. For this reason alone, I would not want to return to this resort. Overall I give it 4.5 star rating (would be a full 5 star if the beach was even partly private)

Paradise
The Secrets Akumal was absolute paradise. We visited in mid March. The resort has incredible service, with a very dedicated and friendly staff. The rooms are extremely clean and beautifully decorated. The grounds are gorgeous, with very lush trees and plants throughout. There are three pools which are all very well maintained. The beach is gorgeous, and the staff keeps it clear of seaweed. There is snorkel gear available all day, and if you go early in the morning you can watch the turtles feed [... read more]without swimming very far. The restaurants were all wonderful and the bars had a great selection of drinks. The coffee shop is lovely and has snacks available all day. The resort has a lot of activities, including a snorkel tour, kayak tour, paddle board tour, and a bike tour through Akumal which is about two hours and very worth doing! There are many fitness classes throughout the day including CrossFit, yoga, spin in the pool, and many others. I would go back again tomorrow if I could!

Very lovely spot
This resort exceeded our expectations on many levels. There was plenty to do and the restaurants were very good.
We enjoyed a bike tour and I especially liked that we rode to Ya Kul, a lagoon nearby. They provided very good tours also. Our tour to Tulum was guided by an excellent Dutch born guide.

Great time at Secrets Akumal
This was our first time at an adults only resort. And it was a lovely time. Good food (vegetarian and gluten free options in the restaurants), beautiful beach, and very nice rooms. The nighttime entertainment was fairly good most nights as well.

Stunningly beautiful both day and night
Not too big and not too small, this resort offered a wide variety of options for your every mood. There are three pools to choose from, all with varying degrees of activity. There was lots to do if you felt like participating or you could easily find a quiet spot. The beach was spectacular although not private. There are always people coming and going to snorkel and/or simply enjoy the sand. It was not something that bothered us. We enjoyed swimming with sea turtles each morning and the bea[... read more]utiful coral reefs just a short swim in front of the resort. Our room was spacious and comfortable. It was well stocked each day with both drinks and snacks. The food was great and there were so may dining options that we didn't get a chance to try all the restaurants. Wonderful experience!
This was our second visit to Secrets Akumal! We had such a great experience last year (Oct 2017) we couldn't wait to come back this year (Oct 2018). The resort is beautiful and the staff are exceptional. Both visits we stayed in the preferred club (building 4) with partial ocean view and this year with ocean view. Our concierge (Tallia) was so friendly and helpful. She maid sure everything was perfect in our room and helped us with pointers for local, off-resort excursions. Beach staff, pool sta[... read more]ff and activity staff were friendly and helpful everywhere on the resort. Even though the resort didn't feel "crazy-busy" full with vacationers/staff, there was always someone available to assist us. We did notice a few overall changes in service from last year to this year, but they were minor. We highly suggest a spa treatment and a wine tasting; we tried both this year and thoroughly enjoyed both! This resort is a peaceful place with relaxing fun for adults throughout the day and into the evening!
