Amazing resort!

We loved this resort !!! The staff. The pools. The entertainment. The Food! We are planning to return at the end of January! Definitely rooms in block 5!!! The ocean beach were beautiful!!! We cannot say enough about the entire staff!!!! Rooms were beautiful and spotlessly clean! Cannot wait to return!

Great Family Resort

Our stay at dreams Onyx was a great experience overall, starting with Airport pick up. It was a nice surprise to see newer transit vehicles versus the traditional big bus. When we arrived, we were greeted and had a seamless check into our room. The staff at this resort is fantastic. The only disappointing part of this trip was the arcade, when booking an all inclusive resort based on a family stay you assume games and such would be included just like the water park is included. We will come back to this resort 100% to see these folks again! See you all soon ? We had a small issue with our private pool but it wasn't a big deal. The hotel was great about the issue they offered us to change to a new room that was the same. We had already unpacked so we just stayed in our room. We mentioned that we wanted to go bowling so instead they offered us a day pass at the arcade. We had lots of fun doing that! Rooms: We got a private pool preferred club room and we loved it. There is ample space to sit and do your makeup and hair. I wish sometimes they'd put a mirror there for women so they can see while sitting without standing at the sink, but I've never seen this in any hotel so I can't complain. They had a steamer and an iron, a great hair dryer! There were lots of shelves and some drawers for our clothes. The shower was awesome, great temperature and pressure with a rain head. There is a sofa and coffee table in the room which is great for room service and comfy. The preferred club staff will come around to your private pool and chat if you want and bring you drinks. They are super upbeat and friendly which just makes you feel very welcome and comfortable. They smile all day long! (Nelis, Ismael, Sterling & Jensi)! Angel, Juan and Mariano - preferred club concierge were super friendly too and always put out towels for us every morning. The bali bed for our room was lovely to lounge on and the preferred pool is huge and very unique! It's not just a cookie cutter square or round pool it is very dynamic and there was lots of chairs to lay. There is a little beach side restaurant nearby where you can get snacks to eat by the pool. It was actually really yummy, serving different things each day. One more shout out for... The preferred pool - Nelis and Ismael, Sterling and Jensi - "drinky time"! They are the very best we LOVED them, they took such good care of us. Alejandro at the bar was top notch with his drinks and very friendly. They were all in such high spirits and constantly smiling. Angel, Mariano, and Juan, (pool concierge) took very good care of us! The preferred restaurant was our favorite for breakfast and lunch. Meybis took good care of us. The service was impeccable! You get a plate of fresh fruit and some sweet pastries when you sit down and I really enjoyed their breakfast options. Of course they had the usual American breakfasts, waffles, pancakes, but they had healthier options like avocado toast, egg white omelettes, and green juices that were so fresh. Stefany and Meybis & Juan at the preferred restaurant for lunch took very great care of us. Brenda was the best hostess, always happy and smiling along with Jeallie. You girls are so fun and you make people happy. Every hostess should be smiling like you! The French restaurant was amazing. Beet and goat cheese salad, seafood crepes, lobster bisque was delish and on point! We had the duck and the salmon they were both so yummy, the sauces were 10/10! The service was excellent! The hibachi show was awesome, the food was what you'd expect at hibachi. As always they took good care for my food as I have allergies which I really appreciate. The Italian restaurant had a different vibe with service the night we went. It was not the friendliest of service. I am not sure if they were maybe trying to rush people to turn the tables or what but no one was really smiling or friendly. The food was great, they had very yummy bread to start and we had the lasagna and funghi risotto which were both really good. The tomato soup was also really great. The steakhouse was good, I had the chicken which was massive and really juicy. My partner had the new York steak which was good, but the one at lunch was more tender and juicy then in the evening. Overall it was good. The buffet really impressed us! There were endless options, everyday with new options and choices. There was always something different to try and it was pretty fresh and hot. It was one of the bigger buffets I have seen at a resort. Even at lunch there was meat being carved and many special stations where you could customize your food and have it cooked fresh. There was always lots of fruit and salad. Also, tons of different, AMAZING desserts! The night before we left to go home, the restaurants were all a 30-45 minute wait to eat so we just ate at the buffet, which was not bad at dinner time. I can see why people leave some negative reviews about the wait. If it's busy it might be difficult to eat at a restaurant every night unfortunately. It'd be smart for them to do reservations, they'd totally fix this issue quite easily. The other nights while the hotel wasn't as busy we're great, we never waited to eat. It was just the last night which was fine. The buffet for dinner was really good, also had great service! I love coffee so the cafe was one of my favorite places. All the staff there were happy and friendly. Valentina always made my coffee with a heart on top which was very cute. Their small sandwiches and desserts were yummy. Sundaez was so great and we loved that both the ice cream shop and the cafe were open until midnight. We went to the burger place and ordered a chicken burger and a regular burger and we only got the chicken burger one day. It wasn't a big deal and it was probably a language barrier thing. The staff at the ice cream and burger place were not the friendliest. If you like a more lively time you can wander over to Breathless. We went one day for their pool activities which was very fun. We also had dinner there one evening which was delicious (Silk City). It is very busy over there with lots of people watching opportunities. We wouldn't want to be staying there as it seems like a constant party but it was fun for some time and then returning to the more relaxing preferred pool. Many people said their restaurants were excellent. If you go to the preferred lounge usually you can catch a trolley over to Breathless but you can also walk it is not far. The entertainment was absolutely awesome. Our favorite was the Queen show, it was so impressive! The magic show was great and the fire show as well, you must see the fire show. The Dominican show was very cool to see the cultural side and the dancers were so talented. Every night they had dancing in the plaza which was very fun for both adults and kids. Entertainment ended at 11 which was absolutely perfect for us but if you are a night owl or a party person you can go over to the disco at Breathless. We went to the arcade which is new. The bowling was very cool we really enjoyed it. The other games were fun too, for a rainy day it is a great way to pass the time. There are bumper cars and a small mini putt, as well as some pretty cool VR games. Overall it was a cool addition to the hotel, especially for kids but adults can definitely still enjoy. There is a bar inside as well. We also spent some time playing pool by he theater and if you want AC there is pool in the sports bar too. Yoga on the beach was an awesome activity. It wasn't too challenging and also not too boring. It was on the beach and the sound of the waves was amazing. The instructor was great! Shout out to Leslie from Florida! ? namaste We went from Sept. 1-8, 2025. The beach was pretty unswimmable due to the sargassum the whole time which is sad but we expected this. The beach was very beautiful regardless. We tried many days to go swimming but there was just a lot of that sargassum in the water unfortunately. Luckily the preferred pool was awesome and we had our private swim out pool as well so it didn't impact us too much. The splash water park was very cool and fun. The lazy river was long and dynamic. The water slides were really fun too. If you go on the slides, wear a shirt and even shorts because it hurts a bit! The only downside was the lack of tubes. It wasn't even busy during our stay compared to normal and we couldn't get a tube sometimes. You could always bring your own floaties to the water park if you're worried! Also, bring your towel. We couldn't find towels there. One thing to improve: a couple of workers would ask us our room number and butlers name to make sure we were preferred. Sometimes it seemed they didn't believe us and I could see how some people might be a bit offended. After all, you pay to be preferred. They could easily fix this by giving some kind of a wrist band or something to preferred guests. That way they'd easily see who is preferred and they wouldn't have to question guests. Most of the staff seemed to genuinely enjoy working at this resort which is so important to us. They take care of their guests but it is important to guests that the staff are also taken care of, which it seems they are. Most staff are always smiling and very friendly, doing anything they can to make your vacation even better. Thank you Lisa in the preferred lounge for your care! Your customer service was excellent! There was one experience that was a bit scary. I had to go to the hospital in an ambulance as I was having a reaction from tooth pain that was pretty serious. The doctor at the resort took great care of me, though, and the ambulance was quick. The hospital was also very kind and helpful. It's scary to be in an emergency in another country but overall the people at the facilities made it less scary. But get ready for a hefty bill, hopefully you have good travel insurance. We got an Uber back to the hotel after I was treated and that was great. The hospital had a taxi driver on site who wanted to charge us $70 USD for the same ride that cost us $28 US in the UBER so it's pretty great that Uber is an option! The lady at the reception tried to make it seem like taking an Uber would be dangerous we thought to get us to use their driver, but I don't see how Uber there could be dangerous. Our experience was awesome. The day after the hospital I guess word got around to the staff that this had happened and they were beyond caring , checking in to make sure we were okay. The day after the hospital I had to have an emergency tooth extraction as well. We found a dentist 4 minutes walk from the hotel and my experience there was better than a dentist in Canada! Julia is an angel and really made that situation as enjoyable as possible. Affordable, quick, painless and the healing was amazing. There was a pharmacy there too so filling the prescription was easy. Thank you so much Ray and Julia!! Most of the staff seem very happy to be working in this industry which I think is great to see! We are definitely coming back to this hotel! Overall one of our best trips ever. Our favorite thing, the people! Then the pool then the food and entertainment! Thank you Dreams Onyx, see you soon!!

Good resort but needs improvement

Pros: - well maintained and clean - friendly and helpful staff - beautiful resort - easy access to beach and facilities - access to adults only resort as well - lots of areas to hang out - lots of restaurants and bars Cons: - food lacked flavour and definitely ruined some of the experience - more public areas could have better air conditioning - activities were lacking and many still required additional payment - much more pools and amenities available to preferred guest [... read more]s than regular guests - anything additional like basic snacks such as chips cost 4-5 times the price - no ability to buy any supplies because of the unreasonable costs

Beautiful Resort!

The grounds were beautiful. The kids loved the water park! The main pool had various activities throughout the day, which were fun! The beach was disappointing with the seaweed. I believe that the beach would have been gorgeous at a different time of year. The drinks were good and they had various different drinks of day. Lots of dining options for dinners. My kids had about 8-10 ice creams a day lol! The cafe was very good as well. Lots of great options in there! Overall, it was a wonderful holiday. I would definitely recommend this resort to families with young children. I will for sure go back to another dreams resort again just not in august.

Amazing resort!!!

An amazing family vacation at an amazing resort. Excellent service and a great entertainment team. Second visit for us at Dreams Onyx and can’t wait to go back! Thank you Leo for all the great dancing.

Not worth it

The rooms are nice. The service is all right nothing to really remember by the beaches is dirty smelly. The food is also not great entertainment really really lacking. Also, it’s ridiculous that they don’t have a straw to drink with all their slushy drink. It’s almost impossible to drink it and when was asked, they said because they care about the environment. I think it’s a cheap move because if they do care about the environment look at all the water bottle that is being used daily. Yet the st [... read more]raw is made out of paper only supply secretly when asked. The views, the surrounding of the resort it’s not that impressive either so for the price of it, I would not recommend. Also, why would you not have dinner reservation instead of making people wait first come first serve it is a waste of time just to be waiting lining up for dinner and to be disappointed because it didn’t even taste good everything was so salty

Wonderful resort!

This was our 1st time to Dreams Onyx and it did not disappoint! We decided to upgrade to the preferred package on arrival and were so happy we did! This gave us access to a concierge (our concierge was amazing and always took us to the a la carte restaurants nightly and got us in right away), adults only pool, preferred a la carte restaurant for breakfast and lunch, upgraded room amenities and snacks as well as access to multiple preferred lounges. The staff at this resort definitely go above an [... read more]d beyond, are extremely hard working and very very friendly. We were always met with smiles and kind words. The beach this time was so full of sargasm and even with the constant cleaning, it was a force to be reckoned with. This is mother nature and absolutely nothing one can do about it. So we just made sure to enjoy the pools instead. The rooms are large and well laid out and the resort is meticulously kept. We would 100% recommend this resort!

Amazing Family Resort!

This resort was awesome for families! 4 kids between ages 13-8 and always fun activities going on at all times. Multiple pools and a couple lazy rivers to keep you relaxed, great service. Super clean resort, friendly staff. Unfortunately, sarrgasm (seaweed like) showed up a couple days before we got there but not the resorts fault. They worked hours and hours on tractors trying to clear it so we could enjoy the beach. 5 stars!!

Great Resort

Dreams Onyx was a great resort , clean and people will always very friendly . My room was fantastic and very well maintained every day . The buffets were ok always something to eat . We only went there for breakfast and lunch only , the morning buffet was the best our of the two . Lunch buffet was good but more choices would be nice , but you never would go hungry . The ala carte restaurant's I enjoyed especially The French one , it was amazing . The beach has great breeze especially needed because it was sunny and hot , plus not a lot of seaweed . They maintained the beach great and always chairs available . The Entertainment team was great and got everyone going . The night show I truly enjoyed was the Queen tribute and the Rock tribute , they were very well done . I seen a lot of shows at different resort's but these two were fantastic .Having a lazy river was a nice change and the pool were great as well . You could be at the party pool or at a much quieter pool depending on what you wanted . The only thing that was annoying at times were all the students on there senior class trip . At times they took over and at night up all hours of the nights running or just screaming in the halls of the buildings . But overall I had a great time and really enjoyed my trip . Especially my cappuccino's every morning

Wonderful resort that is very kid- friendly

The staff were all friendly and helpful and every a la carte restaurant that we tried was beyond expectations. All food was great. The pools and lazy river was great and all the drinks we had were excellent. Highly recommend this lovely resort

Family Friendly Resort!!

The vacation was absolutely amazing!!! The resort is so perfectly laid out and it took us half a day to figure it all out! It took us 7 min to walk from one end to the next…As non-preferred guests I was starting to worry if I made a wrong call, but we were treated like royalty!!! Constant calls from concierge making sure we have everything, how is the room (small issue with the A/C and was fixed within 10 min of calling!!) the swim out room was perfect and so worth it. All the restaurants has  [... read more]excellent food but the steakhouse and the Asian Teppanyaki table were the BEST!! The buffets were good basically the same for breakfast and lunch but there was a change up almost every night for dinner that we attended. All the extra little food bars (burger bar, taco trucks, ice cream parlour, cafe) were amazing for late night snacks or early mornings. All the bars had exceptional service and they went out of their way to get to know us and the kids!! The shows at night were all great and most were interactive. Even with our flight delay, the staff made sure that we were comfortable, well fed, and enjoyed another full day till we caught our shuttle at 10:30 Friday night!

Amazing Resort

Enjoyed the resort great food, grounds and pools were amazing especially lazy river with swim up bar, all staff were great and very friendly and helpful. Had ground level room and even received bar service while sitting outside our room

Great resort with amazing staff!

This resort was excellent! The staff really goes out of their way to look after you and it’s a very welcoming place. Highlights were: super clean, food was delicious, beds comfortable, kids club was a hit, beautiful beach and so much more. I would not hesitate to recommend Dreams Onyx.

Wonderful Vacation

The beach is a well kept long stretch that has both calm and rougher water areas so you can pick which one you like better. The buffet was average with alot of choices, and the a la cart restaurants were quite good. Staff was very helpful, and our butler Alejandro was beyond amazing. The only one area that could have been better was our room (block 5). It was dated, and the bathroom badly needed an upgrade. Getting the sliding door to open was very difficult and they weren't able to repair it (n [... read more]eeds to be replaced). That said, we spent very little time in our room so it wasn't a deal breaker for us. We actually would have wanted to stay longer ..

Amazing resort

This hotel far exceeded my expectations!! Every employee I came in contact with wanted nothing more than to make our stay a wonderful experience. All staff went above and beyond to make even the smallest detail special. We were a family of 8 with 4 teens. They loved the teen club, and said they enjoyed it even more than the arcade. I can not wait to return to this resort again

Great Resort!

This was our second time at Onyx, we were there just after it opened in March 2017. They have since then expanded the grounds to include a waterpark and additional rooms. Note, our first stay was mainly adults, it is now more of a family resort. Not an issue for us, and we did not find the kids overly intrusive as they tended to frequent the water park etc. Much busier this time capacity wise. The abundance of staff was able to provide proper service despite that. The weather was great, 28-30 C [... read more] during the day, partly cloudy, overnight dropping to 20-24 C but by 9 am it was back up to at least 26. Not much rain, the usual 5-10 minute showers off and on for the most part. Taking everything into account, we really enjoyed ourselves. Pros: Staff was very attentive, helpful and friendly. Key persons such as the hostess at the buffet and bartenders at the bars we frequented remembered us after the first couple of days and greeted us more like friends than guests. Very clean resort in all aspects with constant cleaning/upkeep Maintenace across the entire resort. Food was a bit hit-and-miss based on our tastes (typical of most resorts), however overall the quality and selection was good. We just had to learn what to look for and choose accordingly. The A La Carte restaurants were good although they were first come, first seated. Wait times not bad (the longest we waited was about 1/2 hr, just grabbed a drink at the Prelude Bar and enjoyed the wait). Drinks were decently prepared, bartenders were able to prepare a good selection, and the bars are spaced around so that you didn't feel like it was hard to get refills. See note below regarding Beach Area (service). Room. We had a swim up (as usual), the room was well appointed, the outdoor area had a hot tub, 2 sitting chairs, 2 loungers (with a small grassy area we could move them out onto) and a small table. The cleaning staff did a good job and after speaking with the person who stocked the mini bar, every day we had lots of bottled water and 3 beers with nothing else as we requested. Be sure to read the Cons section below... Beach Area, lots of lounge chairs at the beach, enough that after the first couple days we didn't bother to go down early to claim some where we wanted that day. We prefer being in the sun, the Palapas seemed to fill up faster? Very clean beach, virtually no seaweed. There were 2 bars at the beach area, so not far to go to get drinks. Service at the beach was typical, moderate wait times as the servers took massive orders/filled /delivered them. I prefer to get up and move around every now and then anyway, I can't just sit there drinking and baking in the sun all day. LOL! Pool Areas we cannot comment on as we never sat there (we never hang out at the pool, prefer the beach). But passing by, everyone looked to be having a great time. We did a walk-through of the water park; it was busy and looked like a lot of fun. We just ran out of time, or I would have done the slides that looked great. Cons: VERY windy (coming straight off the ocean) this time compared to the last time. Effect of going almost a month earlier? Ocean was breaking in the center of the beach, which could bowl you over when they broke if you aren't that confident in the water, once past the "surf area" it was more of a bob in the water. My wife preferred the left side of the beach that had a bit of reef where it was pretty gentle getting in/swimming. The WIND tended to sandblast you, mostly when people would walk by/kids playing. For that reason, we spent a lot of time at our swim up room sunning/swimming/drinking. There was a bar very close, and sporadic service right at the room. NOTE: Not much the resort can do about the weather. House flies were pretty annoying early morning/later afternoon on our patio. I noted they were pretty much across the resort as well, although I didn't notice them in the buffet (open air)/restaurants. Not biting flies, just annoying when they would land on you. The resort may want to look into fly strips, but not sure if that would take away some of the ambiance? At least there were no mosquitos that we saw at any point, and I only saw them fog the edge of the grounds on our side once.

Amazing Resort!

We enjoyed everything about this resort, our room was great and clean! The food and evening entertainment was better than any of the other resorts we vacationed at in Punta Cana. Staff are super friendly!

Great resort

The resort was lovely, immaculately clean and the staff were lovely. We booked a Premium Poolview room which turned out to overlook the waterpark in Building 7. Initially, we weren’t too keen on the location because we thought it would be too noisy. However, we soon appreciated its close proximity to the restaurants and to the Breathless resort next door. Our room was huge and we really liked the huge walk in shower. The beds were comfortable. The restaurants were great. We had n [... read more]o problem getting in as we are early diners. The pools were a little on the cool side but we acclimated after the initial jolt. Initially, we used the Dreams pool. However, we found it noisy and ended up using the Breathless pool for the rest of the week. The Breathless pool closest to the lobby was loud and rowdy. We avoided that and stayed in the mid section of the pool near the Grill. It was generally quiet and we had no problem getting chairs. The beach end of the pool with the swim up bar was a little noisier. Basically, there were pool options for everyone. We only saw the fire show so I can’t comment on the entertainment. Overall, it was a good week snd I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel.
