My wife and I as well as two other couples spent a week at Hideaway Diamond Club February 2023. We have been to this Royalton on two previous occasions with our children (2017 & 2018). We returned because we really enjoyed the previous visits. This time we stayed at Hideaway as we were travelling without children. Overall the trip was great. There were a few changes since last there. Notably, the beach beds are now only available for a fee. Also, the Hideaway section of the beach had some signif[... read more]icant erosion due to prior storms. This was not an issue for us as we spent our days at the Diamond Club beach section. Jose Luis, Yovanni and Darby at the bar there were excellent. We were also able to quite easily get 6 beach chairs together each day at mid morning, which is great. We are more beach people than pool people, so spent little time at the pool. When we did, it was at the Hideaway pool late in the day. Ozuna, the bartender at the bar there was great.
We really enjoy the relatively small size of the resort, and it has everything a large resort has. We made one trip to the water park at Splash which was very fun. We also walked the beach to Royalton Bavaro one day to enjoy the Lazy River and some drinks which was also nice. One of the best things about this resort is that all of the staff were always smiling and seem genuinely happy. Our room was fine. I would say typical of such a resort. Housekeeper Diocelina was very helpful and always happy to work around our schedule.
Overall, we had no real complaints. Food was good. Made it into Zen once and Hunter twice. Thanks to our Butler Carolina for looking after all our needs. We had breakfast most days at Dorado where Edwin, Euri and Damari did a great job.
We did Yoga each morning outside, which was quite nice. Victor, Mirtha and David were excellent instructors and it was a great way to start the day. We took in a show at the theatre most nights which was actually quite good. We did attend the Superbowl party there which was less than good due to technical difficulties with the program feed. However, we did not pay for it, and I am not a big fan, so it was didn't bother us too much.
In closing, there were some small differences from previous visits, but everything we asked for was addressed. I find it a very good resort, with great staff and an overall would give it 5 stars.

Wonderful Time at the Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana
Initially my wife and I were preparing ourselves for average food and average service as the resort is quite large. BUT, since we arrived on Feb 23 and returned on Feb 30 we were both truly amazed and impressed at how well the establishment is run. The food was incredible. The staff were always friendly and extremely helpful. Not to mention it seemed like 3 staff members for every guest. We would HIGHLY recommend this resort to anybody me! Just wish we would have stayed longer!

Not A True Adults Only Resort
Hideaway is exactly as it is titled, a small enclave in a family resort. You have 1 restaurant and small beach area that is adult only otherwise you are sharing the resort with families with children. All restaurants, shows and common areas are shared with families. If you are going on a holiday to share your space with all adults, this is not the resort for you. Adults have a small pool that is not big enough to accommodate the people in the adults only section. Redeeming quality of this resort[... read more] are the workers. Amazing trip!
We stayed at the Royalton as a family of four with two kids ages 6 and 13. Overall our experience was wonderful from the moment of check-in to checkout. We stayed in a 1 bedroom diamond club room with swimout which was the best decision. Having the convenience of the swimout was a wonderful addition allowing us to spend more time
together. Food, restaurants, service and shows were all great and catered to all ages. From a COVID perspective, not really any measures in place anymore but we felt s[... read more]afe. The resort was well
maintained and staff were friendly and very accommodating.

Nice resort - unsatisfactory service
From the minute we stepped off the bus at the resort on Sunday we were made to feel unwelcome. Our room category was Hideaway Diamond Club Butler Suite. We went to the check in desk and were told - you're Hideaway, they pointed to a group of buildings and we were told we had to go there and had to find it on our own. Once we found the other check in desk we were told to help ourselves to drinks and snacks in the other room while they got our paperwork ready, there were no employees in the oth[... read more]er room so we got our own drinks and then employees came in and told us we couldn't get our own drinks. We were introduced to our butler Fluery but our room wasn't ready so he took us to the buffet for lunch. We went to the Hideaway pool until our room was ready at 3pm - always lots of chairs around the pool and Greisy provided excellent service at the pool bar and around the pool all week. Fleury showed us to our room we exchanged contact information for What's App and we really didn't see Fleury again for the next 5 days. We were never offered a tour of the resort.
Fleury did nothing to make us feel welcome and getting him to help with anything was a fight and we did not request anything extravagant or crazy. We had no bathrobes in our room and I had to ask for them 4 times - his response was always - are you sure they are not in your room? Once we finally got our robes they were not the upgraded robes that we were supposed to have.
Our room included upgrade mini bar and I couldn't even get them to fill it with bottled water and diet Pepsi. I had to keep refilling it myself from the Hideaway Lounge. I had What's App confirmation of our dinner reservations from Fleury but when we got to dinner on 2 of the 3 nights they had no record of our reservation. Both restaurants said the same thing -'thats Fleury - he always does that'. He never came and picked up our bags for our return flight. He never checked in to see if we needed anything. I've been to other resorts some Royalton - with butler service and they check in once a day just to see if everything is okay - that did not happen here. Everyone with Fleury for a butler had the same complaints. Our room came with a bottle of alcohol - it took 5 days and a complaint to our Sunwing rep to finally get it 1.5 days before we left. Turndown service was included in our room category and never happened once and we did not have the do not disturb sign up. Escort to dinner was never offered, cold towels at the pool were non-existent. The service in the restaurants wasn't much better - with the exception of Edwin in the Mexican restaurant and a woman in the outside section of the breakfast buffet it was almost impossible to even have someone fill your water glass. The entertainment staff around the pool made it clear they didnt like thier jobs, needed tips but didn't do anything to earn them. There was lots to do at the resort or you could sit and relax but for the extra we paid for Diamond club Hideway it was a complete waste of our money.

Beautiful/Loud Resort
The Royalton Punta Cana is a beautiful resort with a great location. The beach is stunning, the rooms are clean and the food is very good. We enjoyed the variety of eating at 8 different restaurants during our stay. Overall, the service was fair to good. It is a bit deceiving to think the Hideaway is a separate resort for adults only, because it is located within the Royalton family area. It does have a separate beach area, small pool and one restaurant that is designated for Hideaway guests o[... read more]nly. The Hideaway pool plays very loud music for most of the day and was always crowded during our stay. I would not recommend this resort for those really looking for an adult only experience or a quiet resort. We found quiet areas at the Hideaway section of the beach and the Diamond club pool at Splash. There are limited chairs available at the Hideaway pool and beach and guests were waking up very early (4 - 5am) to claim a spot.

Close to what it can be
Beach: not Cuba but good.
Food: good but not the variety you encounter at large resorts.
Rooms: standard, good but at 4 stars resorts we had jacuzzi in the bathroom or on the balcony, here just a shower.
The most annoying part was watching weddings, I mean people eating and dancing in the main plaza 8-11pm or by the pool (3 weddings in a week). In the rest of the days the same area is used for shows or just a nice outdoor Disco. Annoying! THIS CAN BE FIXED
I do not watch TV in vacation [... read more]but in the evening before dinner I opened it for news and some Latin music. It was frustrating to see the network buffering, loosing signal, flickering image, etc. This is not acceptable in a 5* resort. IT CAN BE FIXED
No lounges available at the beach or at the swimming pool, just talk to the beach guy or the pool guy and they take the towels of some lounges hold by people for hours.
Overall I enjoyed my vacation, staff professional and friendly with minimal exceptions. They did not ask but I have to mention the people from which we received an exceptional service: Jose at the beach bar, Ozuna at the pool bar and Sadeica at the main bar that - Thank You.
Have I been in better places in same price range? Yes.
Do I recommend this resort? Yes (already done so).
Do I go back? Probably yes, if the price is right.

Awesome resort, great vacation!
The resort is beautiful and super clean. The staff are friendly and always willing and ready to accommodate. The rooms are great and housekeeping did a great job. The fridge was always full of water, soda and beer. Lots of clean towels daily. The food was excellent and a great selection. We spent every day at the beach and the service was awesome. Beach bartenders and servers were the best.
Staff wore masks and most of the guests did in public areas. Once seated at dining tables we re[... read more]moved our masks. Restaurants recorded names and room #s when entering. Covid test done on site prior to returning to Canada and results emailed to us the night prior to leaving. We would definitely go back to this resort.

Great time!!
This was our 3rd time to Punta Cana and our first stay at a Royalton. Check in was smooth, our room was clean and quiet. The beach is beautiful and the pools were refreshing. Foodvwas delicious. The only negatives were a few little things that with a little attention, could easily be fixed. There needs to be management overseeing things, ensuring that bathrooms are stocked with toilet paper, that bars are fully stocked so guests can have the drinks of their choice. Hot water for tea served in[... read more] a stainless steel pot, rather than servers pouring hot water in a cup and adding the milk. Replace their acrylic glassware. They're cracked and foggy...worn out. This resort needs to step up a little to continue to be a luxury resort.

Very nice resort.
Overall, a great experience. Good food, friendly staff, and peaceful. Beautiful beach, I felt very safe which was important and I really enjoyed the entertainment. The adults only areas including the pool was in small sections. But that being said, fantastic trip and resort.

Wonderful resort
The Hideaway at Royalton in Punta Cana was everything that we expected from a Royalton resort. From first rate service, great food and extremely comfortable accommodation, our week away from home was first class. An added bonus was that we also had privileges at Grand Memories Splashworks as well as the Royalton Bavaro. A special thank you to Luis at the Dorado restaurant as well as providing beach service in the afternoon. He made a wonderful week that much more special. Some of the nightl[... read more]y entertainment could have been better, but overall, a terrific resort.

Hideaway at Royalton
The resort was clean, well laid out, friendly staff, decent food, nice beach and pools. Our particular room was on the first floor with a balcony and very small space between the service road and our balcony. Inside the room was spacious, bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a bit small but adequate. We have stayed in many places with nicer views. The major problem with this resort is the term and interpretation that this is an adults only. It definitely is not when you consider that kids ar[... read more]e roaming in all parts of the resort other that a small noisy pool within 20 feet to the other pools and one restaurant and one terrible lit bar in the corner. No one was at this bar maybe due to very little seating and the location in the beach. Sand in heals don’t mix. On many occasions the small area on the beach for adults only where occupied by many families and couples that were constantly being kicked out. A large sign stated this area of designation may help. There are many other minor issues with noise but overall this was not a relaxing holiday. I would not recommend this hotel to my friends.

Not what we expected
Here are some of the things we noticed this time around. No more meals on 4 hour flight. Seats no longer recline, no movie, only one sunwing rep on plane. Not a sun wing plane. This was the same there and back. Elite plus passengers not boarded first. Same on the way home. Adults only flight option would be a great idea and I feel people would pay extra for this service. At least group the kids together. Had to take a shuttle to another terminal in Toronto, flight take off delay over an [... read more]hour, flight return delayed for an hour, Over 10 children under the age of 5 on this flight both ways, had to wait over 3 hours for luggage to get to room, finally After asking repeatedly and being told it was on its way, I walked to the very front of the resort and got The bags myself, resort is a 4 star, everything is dated, hideaway beach too small, lack of entertainment in hideaway section, had to wait to be seated in empty restaurants, Butler only booked places to eat, 1/2 of the things it mentioned when we booked did not happen with butler, Butler in Jamaica royalton was a true Butler, beach and staff were great. No $100 voucher towards hotel stay night prior to leaving as there has been in the past. smell of burnt food filled the cabin on the way home, flight attendants speak Ukrainian or something in front of guests both there and back. The resort was not built to be a royalton. Much like the white sands in Jamaica. Where the blue water in Jamaica and the bravaro are. This means the layout is much better as far as hideaway and diamond club are concerned. I have never written a bad review in the past. With that said I felt the need this time around.

Great vacation at The Hideaway!
I recently spent the holidays at the Hideaway with my daughter and for the most part it was wonderful. The Hideaway is an adult boutique hotel within the Royalton (which is not adult). It comprises a couple of buildings surrounding the adult pool with pool bar. In order to get to the beach (Hideaway has its own section with Beach bar) and to the adult only Dorado restaurant, you will be walking through the Royalton where there are kids. All other amenities (a la cartes, main buffet, main lobby b[... read more]ar, theatre, etc.) are at the Royalton so if you want a strictly adult hotel, this might not be for you.
That being said, the Hideaway is definitely a beautiful hotel with an upscale experience and in my opinion is highly recommended.
Pros:
- Adult pool was bigger than pictured and service, particularly by Dolores and those who made sure you had your towels and mats, was excellent. Always some sort of entertainment and fitness classes provided by the vibe team and one day a sax player serenaded us with beautiful music. Christmas Eve featured a spectacular vocalist. The weekend was exceptionally busy (i.e. get your seats very early).
- Front desk was superb, particularly Luz and Stephanie who provided excellent personal service to us and ensured our needs were met.
- The Dorado restaurant provided such excellent, personal service at dinnertime (both the hostesses and the servers), great atmosphere overlooking the beach, and the food was so good that we ate most of our dinners there. The Christmas Gala menu was noteworthy (no extra charge for Hideaway guests) . Salmon and the steaks (which I preferred to those at Hunters) and my daughter’s sea bass were exceptional.
- Beach was eroded (through no fault of the hotel). This being said the Hideaway portion had their guests packed in like sardines. We spent most of our days at the pool and took long beautiful walks on the stunning beach every day.
- The Hideaway lounge provided an incredible spread of food, coffee and alcoholic drinks from morning to night. As our first breakfast at the Dorado took a little too long, and we were ok without a full breakfast, we had ours at the Lounge every day (smoked salmon, cream cheese, croissants, etc) – excellent feature. Same coffee machine as the Royalton coffee shop.
- Theatre at the Royalton was 2 level, air conditioned and enclosed. Aside from some of the broken seats, several shows were beyond anything I’ve seen at any 5 star in terms of the production – Michael Jackson, Lion King and the Christmas Retro Rock Show (which replaced the Madonna show ) were excellent. More nightly entertainment in centre of complex.
- Grounds are stunning and the entire complex is easy and quick to get around.
Cons:
- Not sure what the role of the concierge is. We did have one reservation made at Hunters (which we appreciated as we did not have a butler|) but aside from that, simple requests and promises were not respected and their objective seemed to be to lure you to a VIP breakfast to learn about other properties. They were hardly around in Building 2, and look bored when they were. Better to deal with the front desk.
- Room we had was beautiful with a view to die for (of the swimup pool area, the adult pool and the beach). However, as has others have stated, the 3 drawer storage space is not adequate. We asked for more hangers and hung up what we could. This problem could be solved – there is definitely room to bring in a bank of much needed drawers next to the dresser. Not everyone wants to live out of a suitcase in what’s supposed to be a home away from home. A night light in the bathroom area is also highly recommended.
- If noise bothers you stay away from a room near the common stairwell as it’s particularly noisy. Housekeeping was exceptional (though turn down service at night needs more consistency) but should be asked to keep voices down when screaming directions back and forth in the mornings. Doors also slam so bring ear plugs. And guests please be considerate of your neighbours, particularly late at night as walls are paper thin.
- Be prepared to wait to get into Royalton a la cartes. I would rather have the abililty to make reservations myself (not all of us are prepared to pay extra for Diamond Club for a butler nor should it be necessary). Ate at Hunters and Jade and although the food wasn’t bad, we felt like a number. There was a 20 minute wait at Grazie one night. As it appeared to be mostly empty we didn’t bother and went back to Dorado.
- Service at the buffets was atrocious. Had lunch at Grazie twice – first time offerings weren’t bad, but underwhelmed the next time. Service for drink orders or clearing your plates was practically non-existent. Ate remainder of lunches at main buffet with excellent offerings. However, the service inside was horrible – found it better if you were seated outside which was much brighter during the day anyway ( the inside tends to be very dim considering this is supposed to be a tropical resort).
- I would have liked some sort of bar area dedicated to Hideaway guests (aside from the pool bar where the layout was not really conducive to meeting others, especially at night). Not sure if this would be achievable due to space constraints but would have been nice to have area to socialize other than the very small "grab and go" lounge area.
All in all a great vacation, beautiful pics and memories and highly recommended!

Good vacation over all
The location and the grounds were great. The food was good but not great for a 5 star with the exeption of the hideaway restaurant Dorado. The Diamond club is not worth paying for. The rooms are nice but not luxurious has advertized. We would return if we get a deal because we found it was overpriced for what was offered.

Hideaway at Royalton Punta Cana
The Staff
Starting with Hector, our great butler, down to the guest services staff and waiters, everyone was always smiling, pleasant and eager to please. Thanks to guest services for obtaining medicine for me from a local pharmacy.
Room
We had booked a swim-up room, which was one on the main attractions of this resort. Stepping down from our deck into the pool and going for a morning swim before breakfast, was a lovely experience. The rooms have normal size hotel closets and a dresser w[... read more]ith only 3 small drawers. This means that many items will have to remain in one's suitcase for the duration of the stay.
Food
Hector made reservations for us at a number of restaurant, where food was consistently excellent. The Steakhouse was number 1 for me, while others in our group preferred the Dorado or the Japanese restaurant. A number of lounges spread throughout the resort served great snacks throughout the day. The bar near the sports centre was our favorite. They served a health drink daily from 7 - 10 am, followed by a special of the day together with all other drinks.
Beach / Watersports
The beach was nice, but showed strong signs of erosion, especially near the sports centre. The resort is trying to protect its property with sandbags, but may eventually have to build a wall to hold on to its beach. - Unfortunately, we only managed to get a sailboat once during the week, due to weather concerns or the absence of the mandatory rescue boat.
Negatives:
7 of our group of 10 came down with an intestinal illness, which lasted between 1 and 4 days. We heard from others that we were not the only guests who got sick.

Pros and Cons
There are many pros to this resort that are well worth mentioning. First, the staff are professional, friendly and very willing to ensure you are enjoying your stay. Second it the Dorado restaurant which had wonderful food and service.Lastly the hotel grounds are wonderful and well maintained. The cons is the hideaway pool is far too small for the number of people and is often too noisy for a adult only resort. 4.5
The Royalton Punta Cana resort was a fabulous experience. The food was great (except maybe the Jade Asian restaurant - pretty “mehâ€) and the Hideaway adults-only section was a great choice. The Dorado restaurant, exclusive to Hideaway guests, was great at breakfast, lunch, AND dinner, and has the best view of any restaurant. The snack and drink bar in the Hideaway lounge was a brilliant touch and we used it more than we thought we would. The grounds were beautiful, the beach was great[... read more], snd the staff were helpful and friendly. We felt that the resort was of exceptional value.
Here’s what would have made my vacation a perfect 5 out of 5:
-We were initially put into a room with two queen beds. My wife and I were there for our 10-year anniversary and we had wanted a king. They weren’t able to accommodate until the 3rd day.
-when we finally switched rooms we were brought to the room next to the Hideaway lounge, so it tended to be quite noisy. Something on the fan needed to be tightened up as it was creamy. The king bed had a significant dip in the middle and didn’t feel great on my back at all.
-every time a room door closes, it’s so loud that it echoes down the entire hallway. It woke me up numerous times. Maybe consider something to soften the door jamb.
All in all a fantastic experience, and it wouldn’t have taken much to make it even better. We will most likely return!
