Not as expected

As explained by management this resort has only been open for three years and some items are still not working or available ( room ceiling fans and No coffee pods for in room coffee machines) and they did not have a location for morning coffee service. We were fortunate to get an upgrade to the Club section which turned out to be a blessing (thanks ? Felix) which gave us access to the club restaurant and pool area with better meals and services making our stay better. That being said there wa [... read more]s a vast shortages at the other bars and restaurants of both food and alcohol choices. Of the four specialty restaurants only the Selena meant our approval,well the main buffet was only good for breakfast. During our 10 day stay there was problems with the infrastructure, water shortages and all common washrooms not working properly which was unacceptable. The beach was “Cuba “meaning Fantastic and kept very clean all the time, that is the main reason we go to CUBA !! Well this resort has potential, it needs to get on top of it’s infrastructure and supply problems and it is doubtful if we will return soon.

A message to the manager

I come to Cuba often, but, this is my first time staying at Grand Aston. The resort is newer and nicer. The food and service are both reasonable. However, one thing makes me unhappy and doesn't make sense to the hotel, which can and should be improved. As I'm going for water sports, I sent the resort an email before leaving Canada to request a room on the first floor, but did not receive a reply. A fourth-floor room was assigned to me upon check-in. Even though I mentioned that it does not have  [... read more]to be an ocean view room (I purchased ocean view), I still could not get a first-floor room after 3 days. It is not only causing me inconvenience, but it is also causing extra work for clearn laddy because I will bring a lot of sand into the building. I don't believe the hotel's excuses for why it could not find one. Bottom line, if the hotel truly cares, no one will believe it couldn't find one. During the night, I noticed that more than half of the lights in the first floor rooms were off. It is unbelievably frustrating that the hotel will not do something that is good for both sides.

Great Resort overall.

Pools were great and in excellent condition. The beach was amazing soft white sands and well maintained. We did however have a lot of issues with our room, no hot water for 5 days, no TV, dribbling water from the tap, battery in door died and had to wait 4 hours for IT manager to come and fix it as we had to sit and wait in the lobby for him to finish his meeting - then 3 maintenance men turned up, no IT Manager. Finally moved our room on day 5 and this room was great. It took the Sunwing re [... read more]p talking to Reception to help - didn't find them helpful at all. Sunwing reps were great. Reception staff awful.

Amazing resort

Very nice beach, all places are very close, restaurants are very good, the cafeteria is good Cuban food, the desserts were amazing (it is a French chef) For night entertainment, do not miss ENTRE CUERDAS, a trio of guitarists, simply amazing We had a major problem with water in our room, but we have been advised this is resolved I consider this beach the nicest I have seen in Cuba, beats Varadero

Grand Aston Cayo Paredo was excellent

I recommend the "Club" level upgrade. With it you avoid the crazy buffet lineups, have butler and private adults only pool access, private bar and meal space and priority ala carte restaurant bookings. The tiny Club section down at the beach is nothing to speak of so just enjoy the rest of the beach area. We used Air Canada and the "Spectacular" day long excursion is great value for the $100 and 10% off if you are an Aeroplan member. Lunch is included as are rum and coffee tastings. Tons of [... read more] interesting stops. Short boat ride on a lake. Hold small gators, Flamingos and or a huge iguana. Please bring some meds and hygiene items to donate to church or people in the towns on the Spectacular day long excursion. Bring something. You'll feel so good about yourself. Remember. Your not going for the food. Zero mosquitos for the entire week due to the steady wind. Catch a 6:30 am sunrise. The shows are rough but maybe you'll have a laugh or two. Definitely attend the Air Canada briefing but feel free to avoid the speciality Air Canada dinner night.

Will return in a heartbeat

After waiting for five years to venture back and missing the beautiful beaches of Cuba, we decided to give it a try, with even lower expectations. This was one of our best vacations. We stayed in the Club section and it was totally worth it. We were expecting power outages, no hot water and standard Cuban food. There were no power outages, we had hot water for 5 of 7 days. Don’t expect that everything on the menu will be available. Bacon might not be available everyday and they may run out of pizza. There was a general lack of fresh vegetables and variety of fruits. Most of the vegetables and fruits were from cans. We tried all of the a la carte restaurants and with the exception of the Italian, they were enjoyable. The Cubans are in survival mode. Be generous and kind. They work long hours and travel long distances to get to work. They were especially thankful for rechargeable lights, solar lights, toothbrushes and toothpaste, glue and supplies to repair things.

Great resort

Its my first time at Grand Aston and I'm really impressed by this resort. Its bigger then I expected, but everything put together very well. Food is very good for Cuba ( and I go to Cuba a lot ).Rooms are great, comfortable beds ,pillows not so, but I always bring my with me because of sore neck. Hot water and pressure in a shower always good. I stayed in Building 5 ,close to everything. Average Resort

The actual resort has so much potential! The rooms and accomodations were beautiful for Cuba. The food was also as to be expected when visiting a resort in Cuba. The beach was beautiful and extremely clean, the seaweed was constantly being picked up every day and throughout. My only real problems when visiting the resort was lack of hot water, or water at all. It seemed unfortunate that they were limited to a certain number of bottles of alcohol (for example white wine) throughout the day at certain times. It also seemed that half way through our stay, which ran into the beginning of high season, that the resort started to bring out more amenities and start to put in more effort as we were leaving after a two week stay. Overall I wouldn’t go back and would probably still opt for a resort right in cayo coco, not cayo paredon.

A good standard resort

The premise is clean in all areas: well-maintained resort, clean rooms, clean public areas, clean pools and clean beach. The buffet food was acceptable. The a la carte restaurants' food needs improvement. Entertainment also needs to be improved.

SMOKEY

Hotel rooms nice, staff great, food good but stay away if you are a non smoker. They will ruin your trip. I could not even see a single show or relax anywhere including my own balcony and the beach. It was that bad. I don't think the staff enjoyed it either. Make some smoke free zones for the rest of us. I will definitely not be back for this reason.

Very good resort

Lovely, clean resort, good beach , nice swimming pools, friendly staff, food ok sometimes even very good, many good cakes, good ice-cream. I missed the amazing cuban Mulata coffee and coconut liqueurs, they did not offer them this time. We spent a pleasant vacation here.

A gem on the Atlantic

Fairly new resort, very clean and nit. Friendly staff, interesting buffet with large variety. A/C and water available 24/7 in rooms. High standard rooms, nice decoration. Professional room maids. Drinks on demand, nice and clean pool

Perfect Beach

Worst food we ever had in Cuba very salty and hot food were cold. Our 5th time in Cuba and 1st 5 star resort we stayed as recommended but it was the worst experience we had. Some staff were miserable & rude. The only best thing at this Resort is the Beach.

Clean, good for family, very friendly great food beautiful sandy beach, wonderful service , I have been in that hotel before , big thanks for everything and everyone, love you ? hotel is located approximately 30 minutes from airport , I would recommend this hotel to a friend

Bumpy Ride but Beautiful Beach

There were a lot of issues with our booking through Trip Central. Our Sunwing package was cancelled three days before our departure (per the resort) and we were forced to rebook at another resort. At first, our second resort option was accepted by Trip Central and Sunwing, then we later found out it was no longer available. So we had to go with our third option. We received no compensation for any of this inconvenience (in fact, I had to pay more money for the new booking). Communication with Tr [... read more]ip Central basically dropped out once they made the new booking and we were left dangling without paperwork until mere hours before our flight. In the end, we really enjoyed the Grand Aston. But I can't recommend booking a Sunwing package through Trip Central. You're better off booking directly with Sunwing. They are more accessible in terms of communication, and more likely to compensate in situations like these (upgrade to an available luxury hotel, vouchers for future tips, partial refunds, etc.).

Nice Resort

All was good but the food and no hot water for 2 days. Beach was excellent and staff were excellent. The food was very respective, with not much for vegetarian. We had to change room due to the hot water issue, but was given ocean view which made up for the hot water issue.

Decent Resort

Hotel is modern and nice. Staff friendly except for the front desk staff. They do nothing if you bring a concern. No number to call the front desk from your room. Rooms for a 2 star rating because there is No hot water ever. Very uncomfortable to take a shower. If you ask the front desk no solution. Food edible. Lack of varieties. A La Carte restaurants are decent. Almost an hour wait to get a pizza. They had fries twice during a 7 day trip. Barely any choices for drinks. 2 days out of 7 [... read more] they had pina coladas which was decent. FULL of mosquitoes. Bug repellent does nothing. They were fumigating which did not help. Mosquitoes were eating us alive. Entertainment was good, however no proper theatre. Nightly entertainment was done at the lobby which could not accommodate a large crowd. Barely enough seats. Cannot get a view of the stage depending on where you found a seat. The structures were blocking the view. Super crowded and people smoking everywhere. You are being subjected to second hand smoking. Location great. Only 25 minutes drive from the airport. Beach is amazing. Rooms are clean. Maids are super nice. I would definitely NOT go back to this resort as there are better ones even for Cuba’s standards.

Great price, nice resort

Grounds are lovely, beautiful pool and beach. Great and easy access throughout the resort. Friendly staff. Clean rooms (could use some paint touch up and better pillows). Food was ok-ish, alot of repetitive items and popluar items go fast with not enough to retock (pancakes, lasagna, pizza, potatoes). Lots of pork. We didn't go hungry by all means. The Asian a la cart was the best, by far! Overall, a great trip

Grand Aston Paredon 2024 and 2025

This was my favorite place in Cuba to disconnect. It, for Cuba is a getaway. My son and I went April 2024 returned April 2025. Fit our budget, our needs and got us away from all that was needed. We brought the essentials which are cookies, peanut butter and jam, trail mix, we were full every day. Show respect, tip regularly, and explore. Bring a basketball or pickle ball and plan your day by day. Keep it simple and just relax there.

Good resort but poor food

Every think was good just food is very very poor . No red meat at all no shrimp . Too much pasta in the buffet 3 -4 pasta meal with just different dressing( red sauce or white sauce )Lac of condiments . One time no more coffee to serve . Rarely fresh fruits. When served and finished no more to add. Beach was good need to be cleaned more often from algues. Service was good
