Mediocre resort!!!

For the whole week, we could smell sulfur / sewer in the 300 housing area, sometimes it was overwhelming. The food / buffets were terrific, lots of choices for breakfast, lunch and supper. We found it very difficult to book a supper in the Blue Lagoon Seafood Rest which is the one restaurant that we wanted to try while at the resort. The beach was beautiful, but later in the afternoon there was an unusual amount of seaweed that would float in with the tide. The pools and bars were awesome. Since [... read more] the resort is built into a side of a hill, there are stairs to go everywhere. To go from our room to the main pool / lobby area, there were 40 steps, way too many for some in our group. The staff were very friendly and they loved their jobs. I'm not sure if I would recommend this hotel or not ... it was a beautiful resort ... if the smell was looked after and if you didn't mind so many stairs, then yes, it would be an ideal place to go.

Great Time!!

The Cofresi is a wonderful place to relax and have fun. The staff are very friendly and most helpful, especially at the Cheers bar!! Hector, the towel person, was wonderful. He played games with the children as he handed out the towels. Rooms are bright and kept very clean. The food in all the specialty restaurants was excellent. Two concerns ... if you are senior the steps might be a problem but there is a shuttle. ...a bit too much advertising to purchase a condo by Lifestyles.

Ok resort for the money paid

We stayed at the Cofresi in puerta plata from feb 27-March 6 The resort was very large with adjoining sister resorts - if you don't enjoy stairs , this resort isn't for you Our whole week staying there we only had 1 day where we were able to take a warm shower- we called constantly about this issue and the maintenance people were good to TRY and fix it but with no avail Coffee- if you like to have coffee/ good luck / if the buffet restaurant wasn't open there was no way to get a coffee anywhere  [... read more]- they should really have a coffee bar in the lobby VIP- if you were not one of these preferred vacationers then you were basically worthless... They try to sell you one of these time share packages and when we declined ( we were brought to one of the other sister resorts ) they were not even going to bring us back to our own resort - my husband had to basically get upset and they finally drove us back Food was good/ beach was ok- lots of seaweed - cleanliness was good. Service was ok - employees are not overly friendly Overall it was ok- don't think we will return there agsin

4 star resort, but "good deal" rooms are 3 star

I have traveled over 10 times to different all-inclusive places in mexico, Cuba and Dominican. So here is a short impression: On the good side: true 4 star premises (mind you not 4.5), mature vegetation and landscaping and interesting cosy plazas and gardens. Good kid club - our 8 year old liked it and stayed there willingly almost every day. Users of Cofresi are allowed to go to the other hotels of the complex and use their pools and second buffet restaurant. Food it good, 4 star. On the not-s [... read more]o-good side: if you bought yourself a "good deal", you should be prepared that you will have the so called "standard" room which is a truly 3 star room. Those are small and very old furnished rooms circa 30 years old. Freshly painted though, but looking old, feeling old and the windows are not tight. And noisy because the air conditioners are very close to the doors especially on the first floor. So you are paying for what you get. Better buy their "junior" room, but that will cost a proper 4star price - so it's the decision for money. In the end I think still a good deal because you pay as for 3 star but get a 3-star room in a 4-star hotel otherwise. And you only sleep in the room, the rest of the day you do enjoy the 4-star facilities and food. The beach in Puerto Plata happens to be with dark muddy sand that is wet and doesn't feel like sand, more like ground. But it was interesting to visit the city and their cable car to the mountain top.

It's a place you can make your dream come true, we had an amazing time more than we expect, friendly people, always smiling and pleasant , service was great, food all kind what ever you choose it's in there, place very clean and brite, activities and entertainments all kinds it's what ever u want to do with ur time, I wish it for every one to visit this place

Great Stay!

My husband and I just returned, and can't wait to go back! Food was great, staff was very friendly and helpful. The only down-fall was the sewer smell that occasionally could be smelt in one part of the resort.

Awesome Resort

very nice resort with beautiful landscape and plantation, very green with slopes and small buildings..staff,service, food, entertainment, welcome party all excellent.... Beach not develped and maintained by hotel....needs to pay attention .....

It took awhile..but it got better!!

Resort is large and built on a hill plenty of steps.....grounds are very clean. Although a large resort never seems to be crowed. Stayed in NON VIP section thru AirTransat Vacations. Had problems with no warm/hot watyer for part of stay...never replenished bar fridge..noisey at times..not enough umbrella/tiki hut around upper pools.

Beautiful, Friendly, Authentic Experience

I visited this resort with my boyfriend over reading week this year. It was my first trip anywhere down south, but my boyfriend has been on several trips, including Costa Rico and Hawaii. He said that this resort is definitely one of his favourites. I loved the spanish colonial style of my room. We had a king bed, huge bathroom and an even bigger balcony; with a garden view. Upgrading to the Junior Suite really isn't necessary, we absolutely loved our room. The entertainment and other staff were all very friendly. The food was good, we were there for 7 days so we were able to pick and choose which foods we found we liked and which foods might upset our stomachs. The best a la carte was the Brazilian, definitely try the grilled pineapple! The resort was huge so the shuttle service made it really convenient to get around, and gave you a tour of the beautiful VIP section of the resort. We also went to the Ocean World adventure park, and it was one of the most amazing days on our trip. We also did the paradise island tour and the monster dune buggy excursion; all of them were really fun in their own way and gave us a look at the Dominican culture outside of the resort. In all, the resort was huge so we were never bored. The pools were cool, the adult only pool was a nice thing to have on the days when there were too many kids in the main pool. The resort is built on a hill so there are a lot of stairs, but it really isn't that big of a deal. It also gives the main pool area a beautiful view of the ocean because it is so high up.

Would return!!

Very clean new renovated room. Food was average and entertainment was amazing especially on VIP party night. Friendly stay. Loved the VIP upgrade on the beach. The place is large, but there is a shuttle.

Great resort. Huge! Be prepared to walk.

The resort is beautiful.the food was good. We found check-in to be a pain though. We arrived by bus load and stood in line for 2 hours to check in. The bars didn't open at their proper times. Always late. Otherwise very nice resort.

Not at all what we expected and it wasn't good

Resort was not what it was supposed to be. There was a strong sewer smell through out the resort. Rooms were not that good. tv was about 10 years old. staff at front desk were not helpful at all. discrimination regarding who paid more for there rooms. different beaches we were not allowed to go to because we were not VIP. staff around the resort were great. so called stocked bar in the room consisted of 2 bottles of beer, 2 bottles of pop, 2 bottles of water. that was it for the whole week. no m [... read more]ore. frigde didnt work at first, ceiling in bathroom leaked, air conditioner leaked, no help from the desk. they didnt care. the rep Freddy was not much help. I would have been really upset with the resort if i had paid the money and got what i got. I was glad that i had won the trip and didnt pay the big bucks for that type of resort. did enjoy the food and the staff and the sun. our beach was not looked after. the VIP beaches were raked but not ours because we were considered second class. that was the feeling among alot of people who didnt have the VIP wristbands.pools were great.

Simple Amazing resort

I can't give this resort enough stars. From the staff to the entertainment to the breathtaking view of the ocean from our suite. Simple put I'll be back again and again. Thank you for a wonderful time

Really nice trip !

This is a really big complex that offer a lot of services, restaurant choices and lot more. The beach a little small but the water is clean and sand confortable. Meal are well prepared, taste so good and present a lot of variety. For the "à la carte" restaurant all was perfect, never eat so well in south on those restaurants. the staff was kind and always ready and happy to help. Wa have a wonderful trip. Thanks to tripcentral for their service, very satisfied.

We came back from our stay at Cofresi on Thursday and had a great week. The weather was perfect, staff was friendly, and the VIP party on Sunday was a huge highlight! Looking forward to coming back to stay in a villa!

Large Resort

Too Large lots of walking to beach, pools, room, meals. Food is good, lots to choose from. Drinks are good so is the service. Did not have to wait too long for shuttels. We had a standard room which was kept clean a little out dated. Over all we enjoyed our stay.

A divers review

The resort is nice, we got the trip for a good price. Could not find reviews of the dive shop before leaving. There dive shop is by the beach at the Cofresi resort. 2 tank dive $100 they drive you to Sosua Bay 45 min. very small dive boat viz. 40 ft. Reef has come back to life, (last time dove there 2005) good dives lots of small fish.Then 45 min. Drive Back to Cofresi. The dive shop at Sosua Bay has lots of rental gear which looked to be in good shape. ( I brought my own gear) I left the resort [... read more] at 8am was back at Cofresi 2pm.

Not what we were looking for...

After 2 room changes and two cockroaches found in 2 of three rooms, and water seaping through the floor of one, we are not returning. We can overlook room problems for the most part, but this resort is for the young and healthy, not for those who require any assistance at all. 51 stairs upwards (no ramp) to get to breakfast from juniorsuites. 79 stairs upwards to lobby. Staff were very very nice. Food was great - except nothing is salted at all. Very bland, so just salt it yourself. Also, the VI [... read more]P bracelet system is so confusing you give up trying to figure it out. VIP bracelets saw during the week: black rubber, yellow rubber, blue rubber, blue plastic, blue sparkly plastic, yellow sparkly plastic, beige, ... Ask anyone with a bracelet whats hey all mean and no straight answer can be given. Very ineffective system. Oh well. Great if you want to drink and party and you are young to enjoy the resort.

Bad experience

Had a very bad experience at the resort at first day we reach. It took us 3 hrs to check in at the resort. We got a third class room , furniture in the room was broken. Never ever recommend this resort to anyone.
