The hotel has the following that was not upto the standard
1:The lobby and the Dining area's AC units were never turned on .The fans were not ever turned on.
2:The pool was very dirty . I just contracted blood sepsiss.
3:The pool side bar had one server and to get a drink you had to wait for hour or 40 mins
4:we were charged 5 star price but there was no pool side service in this resort.
5:The rooms were so far away that we had to walk about 10-15 mons bothways.

Beautiful resort
The staff were very friendly, food was delicious, service was great! The only thing I did not like was the beach. It was very rocky and not clear blue as you would imagine a tropical destination. But about 10 mins walk away the beach is nicer. Overall it was nice. A long way from the airport in cancun! 1.5 hours.

Good resort- 4.5 stars
The resort seemed like a village- which was too big for us. They had golf carts to bring you around the resort. Overall, the food was good but we have had better food at another Mexican resort. They did have premium liquor which was nice. You need to book restaurants right away. Many were booked but when you went to your reservations there were empty seats. The beach is not too great- very rocky and many wave barriers. The pools were nice. The entertainment was good. Our four year old daughter l[... read more]oved some of the activity directors at the pool. Biggest downfall was the weather. There was a tropical storm have the time. Currency- pesos or US.

Hugh resort
We have been to many resorts and this one blows everyone of them. 18 a la cart restaurants 3 hugh pools including a sick infinity pool where you can watch the ocean waves crash onto the shore. If thats not enough, try the cove where its blocked off to make snorkelers have a crazy clam water bay to feed hundreds of fish with bread or bananas. Feeling tired and want to get off your feet? Lovely Vacay
My boyfriend & I (29 & 32 yrs) just returned home from Mexico yesterday... weather was great!! nice HOT sunny days, occasional rain but not for long.
stayed in villa 72 room 21 (7221)... not a bad location .. farther from lobby (7 min walk) but 4 min walk to beach/1 of the pools/snack bar ..etc..
Resort: grounds are beautifully kept, nice/clean. Large resort but shuttles/trolleys come around often to take you to your room ,the beach, lobby, and the other sister resorts. you are able to use[... read more] any of the resorts (beach, pool, food & drinks etc..) my boyfriend and i didn't mind walking most of the time ..but shuttles do come around often. lots of wildlife around the grounds, very neat to see!!
-You can use/go to any of other Bahia resorts (Coba, Si' Kian, Tulum)
I found Coba had a lot of kids , tulum was a nice mix and good food, Si' Kian was quiet. before booking i was stuck between Akumal & Si' Kian because we did want, adults only...but after visiting Si' Kian im happy we went with Akumal it was a bit more lively & guests were more relaxed
Wifi: free all throughout the property/resort ..even on the beach
ATM: in the lobby, US $
Beach: lots of beach areas to choose from - i liked the one near the infinity pool- a bit quieter than the others...water was nice and clear..no sea weed/rocks... not too deep .. able to walk out pretty far... I can't rave about the sand/actually beach itself but it was nice ...and just to be on the beach...can't complain
-never had a problem getting beach chairs / under a palm tree, or fresh towels , bars on the beach
Room: nice clean rooms, bar restocked daily, clean towels, jacuzzi tub, nice shower (good pressure, nice attachments..hair dryer, iron etc..), balcony, AC & ceiling fan (always nice and cool), safe (free) in room
Staff: GREAT! no complaints. soo hardworking. very accommodating. language barrier was no big deal..most could understand what you were asking for/ saying
Food: lots to choose from...no shortage there, quality of the food was just okay. nothing to rave about but you won't go hungry. you can eat all meals at any of the resorts.
room service available 24 hrs, snack bar open 24 hr
A la Cartes: book them ASAP of you will end up not getting in or having late reservation (10pm) went to 3, all very good! try to get in as many as you can, nice change from buffet :)
Drinks: ALL inclusive& Premium liqour which was nice (Hennessy, Grey goose, nice wines,Jack Daniels, lots of tequila, cocktails etc ... not watered down or cheap
tequila self serve bar set up with shot glasses and about 13 different types of tequila (in the bar by the theater) open all day
Theater&shows: plenty of seating, some tables, A/C. different shows every night and very enjoyable. beach party on friday nights
Trips: went to Coco Bongs on the tuesday night.. 60 US included all your drinks & transportation there&back (about 40 mins each way). the bus picks you up from the hotel around 9:15 but it doesn't come to pick you up from the bar until 4-4:30. a group of us (7) got our own taxi back at 2:30 (cost us 60 US for 7 ppl) if your looking for a fun night out i recommend this. the show is great! very busy (even on the tues night) hard to find somewhere to sit (especially if your a male) they invite a lot of the females on stage / upper dancing area / table area.... bar/show goes on until about 4:30- 5 am ... great show to see if your looking to have some fun/party
Trip 2: went to the Coba ruins & then to a mayan village.... great experience. lots of history & you are able to climb the ruins at Coba only. * must see/climb if able. you can rent bikes for 3 US and bike through the Coba ruins .. or you can walk... or they will drive you on bikes
"Privilege Club": I read reviews to stay away & that it was a waste of time...however, they got my bf to agree to it ... in the end I was fine with the decision. We didn't agree to what they were selling but they still gave us a bottle of tequila & a 90 US spa gift certificate that my bf used for a massage. it was a 90 min presentation ... they show you areas exclusive to the privilege club (beach area, certain section of rooms - closer to the beach etc..) maybe not a bad idea for some who enjoy travelling often
Location: about 1 hr 15 min drive from the airport. 35 mins to playa del carmen
not much around walking distance. you can taxi to other beaches/ attractions if you wish.
All in all, great vacay! I would definitely recommend the resort. This was my first time to Mexico, I prfer to travel mostly to the Caribbean..
hope this review helped :) enjoy your vacay if you decide on Bahia Principe Akumal :)

Safe and beautifully landscaped
This resort is very well maintained and has adequate staff. Food was very good with a lot of high quality items in the buffet. The only drawback were the tiny ants in our hotel room, but we were ground floor and I suppose it was to be expected but there was a lot of them. The transportation to and from the airport was well organized and easy to navigate ( I travelled by Transat). The beaches are beautiful but have no waves due to wave breakers installed just beyond the swim areas.

Wonderful family vacation!
We had a fantastic week at the Luxury Grand Bahia Principe Akumal! The guests from the other resorts could not use our facilities, but we had the option of going to all the other Bahia Principe resorts like Coba and Tulum. Everything at this resort, from beginning to end was great! The resort grounds are beautiful and well kept and the food and service was excellent. All the staff could not do more for us to make our stay special. The beach was wonderful and had many areas to swim. Our daughter [... read more]was very safe swimming and snorkeling in the lagoon style areas. The water was so clear with hundreds of fish swimming around us. The pools were clean and we spent most of the time at the infinity pool. Drinks were good, nightly entertainment good too. This was probably one of the best vacations we have had in terms of everything being just perfect. We would go back to this resort again if we had the chance.

Amazing resort Outstanding food
The luxury Bahia PrÃncipe Akumal was a great stay. The resort itself was excellent. Grounds were maticulously maintained. Rooms were clean and bright.
The food at the resort was outstanding. Buffet was top notch. Always something for everyone. All of the food chicken, beef and sea food tasted great. Many other resorts we have stayed at the beef is a little hinky.
The beach wasn't overly busy and was easy to get seating. The only complaint of the whole trip is that the beach is man made and t[... read more]hus the sand isn't that soft. Also a lot of rocks in the ocean as a result. (Only reason I rate it 4 instead of 5 stars). If you're a pool person easily a 5 star.
Drinks were good. Lots of brand name liquor for various drinks.
Amazing entertainment. And easy access to all the other attached Bahia resorts.
Gym at the akumal was lacking but the Coba resort which was a short trolly ride away had a much better gym including a bench press and smith machine.
All in all a great vacation would gladly go back to Mexico.

When they say 'Luxury Bahia Principe' they are not lying! Everything was perfect!! We lived by the Infinity Pool all day long; bar service provided by the greatest bar team (Rocio and Isaisis) delicious Corales Buffet directly beside pool, and a beautiful ocean breeze! The alá cartes were really nice, the French was our favorite (dress code in effect). Be sure to book early if u don't want to eat at the buffet all week. Rooms and grounds were spacious and clean. The best experience so far in my life!
The hotel was phenomenal. My girlfriend and I had a great stay as it was her first all inclusive experience. The grounds were extremely clean and the staff were super friendly and helpful.
We had a few issues with our minibar but we didn't care, as the staff tried fixing it and replacing it several times. It was the effort that mattered.
One of the best parts by far was the Bahia Principe App I downloaded on my phone. It had EVERYTHING and made the stay way more enjoyable to navigate and reque[... read more]st services such as room service, room maintenance, booking a la cartes, or just getting around.
The staff were extremely friendly and useful, whenever I had an issue or a question they were right on top of it. It's rare you see such great customer service anymore.
The best part was our view from our hotel room, being conveniently located next to the infinity pool, the bar, the ocean and the outdoor restaurant, we didn't need to go far!
The food was fantastic as there was a little bit of everything.
Our representative and everyone we dealt with was professional and precise on their services provided. We will definitely be booking with tripcentral again.
Thank you so much!

Huge resort!
We just got back from this resort yesterday. It's not our first time to Rivera maya. We stayed at the royalton last year which was a wonderful resort and it's only 15 mins away from the airport :) we absolutely loved our stay at the royalton. We were gonna go back this year but we have a four month old and there was a few cases of hand foot and moth disease going around so we had to choose a different resort so we were recommended luxury Bahia principe Akumal. This is a beautiful resort. The roo[... read more]ms are really big and nicely kept. It's a massive resort. U literally have to take a shuttle bus everywhere. There's two other resorts that are contacted with the Akumal resort. We didn't really explore the other resorts as we had a little one travelling with us. So I can't really say anything about them. I know the Cabo resort had a kids pool section. We checked it out quickly. It was nice. Lots to do for the kids but just not our little one yet. I know tulum the other resort had one shopping huts. Which was nice if ur looking for some keep sakes.
The bus ride from the airport to the resort was an hour and a half. So it was a little bit always but not too bad. I like to look out the window so the time went by fairly quickly.
When we got to the resort check in was a long process. It took us awhile to check in. Than when we finally were checked in we had to take a shuttle bus to our room without our luggage. They said they would bring our luggage to our room in a few mins. We got to our room n waited for our luggage to come. It was taking awhile. Our little one was hungry and needed a bum change n nap time. We had to call the front desk a few times to get our luggage to us. That was a disappointment. But not a big deal. We finally received our luggage.
Our room was really nice n we were able to get a play pen for our daughter to sleep in ;)
We had a stroller with us for our daughter and the villa that we stayed in which was by the ocean was not wheel chair or stroller friendly. There wasn't a ramp for us to go up n down we had to keep picking up the stroller to get in n out of our villa. Which was annoying but yet again not a big deal. I'm assuming they would have wheel chair assessable rooms. But I'm not sure. I also found that the resort isn't really wheel chair or stroller friendly. Some specialty resorts did not have ramps to get in. We went to the Italian and French restaurant. The Italian restaurant did not have a ramp and there was a lots stairs that we had to take the stroller up. The Italian restaurant is connected to the seafood restaurant which does have a ramp just not sure if u can get to the Italian restaurant thro the seafood restaurant. Also the French restaurant which also had alota steps did not have a ramp. But we did discover that u can go thro the buffet to the main lobby to use a ramp. What I'm trying to say is if u have a stroller or wheel chair u literally have to take the long way around to get anywhere. For us it wasn't a big deal just more annoying.
The food at the French restaurant was really good. The Italian one was okay. And we went to the seafood restaurant which was good. The French restaurant was so good we went back twice lol.... There are 16 specialty restaurants within the three resorts.
We liked the beach. It wasn't ur typical beach but we liked how there was no seaweed n that there wasn't waves. They had a section blocked off. It was perfect for our little one but the water didn't get really deep so if u like the typical ocean swimming than this beach isn't for u.
Everything bout our stay was good. The room service throughout our stay was good. When we needed water they always brought it to our room. The drinks where also good.
The nightly entertainment was good. You had ur choices of wat u would like to watch between the three resorts. The Michael Jackson was our favourite show to watch along with the opra show.
The maids would do a good job cleaning our room. We would always leave a tip for them. On our last day two of my daughters drinking bottles dissappeared. Not sure if they got thrown out (don't know how u would mistaken a bottle from garbage ) or they got taken. We even tipped the maid 5 bucks that day since it was our last day. We were greatly disappointed as we had a whole day of travelling the next day. And we were gonna run outta formula for my daughter. We did report the incident but there was nothing they could do. They couldn't even replace our bottles since they didn't have any on the resort. So on our way home we had to buy water to wash our daughters bottles at the airport in the bathroom. I was not happy bout that. We always travel to luxury resorts n this is the first time anything like this has happened. Therefore we will not be returning to this resort instead we will travel back to the royalton . Although it was a nice stay the last day kinda ruined it.

Simply Awesome!
Stayed at the Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal from May 5th to May 12th. We had a fabulous time. From arrival to departure, this resort exceeded our expectations. The grounds, restaurants, bathrooms and rooms are CLEAN. The food is very good, and there is a nice variety in the buffets. As for the a la cartes, WOW - Try the Japanese, and the Italian. I also heard the French as wonderful, but did not try it myself. As a side note, this place is BIG, not that it's a problem, but there is just so much t[... read more]o do. Excellent Resort
Grounds were great. Pools were well maintained. Food was excellent. Room needed a little work. Bugs in room. The service was very good. Staff was helpfull catered to whatever you needed. Check-in was a little disapointing because the flight was early and the room wasn't ready.
