Nice Resort

Very clean rooms and public areas. Grounds keepers were always busy and quick to great you on the way by. Most of the bartenders were there to entertain you,except for the one grumpy one in the lobby bar who barely thanked you for a tip. Overall the staff was very friendly and efficient.

Beautiful resort

Our room was clean (no bugs). Beds were hard but they always are. Newer resort with friendly staff, beautiful grounds and nice beach. Shopping wasnt great. Great vacation spot. No complaints. Recommended.

Fair

We (a group of 6) stayed at the Pestana Cayo Coco from March 26 to April 2. We all got rooms in the same building and floor so that was very convenient. The rooms are nice. Bed are not the most comfortable though. Was disappointed to discover that the hotel does not provide refreshments (sodas and beer) in the mini fridge in the rooms. We ended up buying these at the mini market on site as they only have no-name soda and draft beer at the bars. The food was actually not bad but buffet food was o [... read more]ften cold (especially breakfast) and they kept running out of everything. For example, out of burgers for 4 days at the snack bar and no lasagna at the Italian a la carte! Also, public washrooms never seemed to have toilet paper.... The beach was nice and they always had staff helping with finding and setting up chairs for guests. The currency exchange was a big disappointment. We paid 40% at the hotel...

Great resort

We had a room that was close to poolside and snack bar. Fantastic cause there were times we forgot our hats or suntan lotion and didn't have to go far. My daughter spent a lot of time in pool so really convenient to get a snack while watching her. Brought our own towels made for a great trip no waiting in line!

Awesome destination.

I really enjoyed our stay at Pestana. I enjoyed the food, the staff, and the beach was the best out of the resorts around us. We wore Keen sandals as there was some reef you had to walk over but not much. We had a couple of room issues but nothing trip altering. Skip the market. You can get all the same items at the cayo coco airport. We did get some chips there though. No diet coke (name brand). Pilar Beach is a must whether you do the excursion (Pilar Plus with the lunch and the speed boats wa [... read more]s a great deal) or take the bus that runs through out the day. Go early though. People really start to show up around lunch time so go early to get a spot. The trip to Moron was interesting although I would have liked to hear about the history behind some of the buildings. It was expensive though in comparison to Pilar Plus. I enjoyed the ala cartes. Some people complained. The food was different but awesome. I mean what do you want? If you want what you have at home then stay home. I really enjoyed the Italian al a carte. I hope I spell their names right-Yamilka, Juan, Manual, Getter, Lisbet do a great job. I had the fish and loved it but it was something I had never had or seen before. The deep fried battered fish on the beach was awesome. The hamburgs are not your regular burgers we have in Canada but edible. Our Transat rep was around al the time. The cappuccino's were an awesome way to start the morning. We didn't hang around the pool because well there was a beautiful beach to enjoy with a great amount of shade available. Catarmorans were included. What a beautiful ride. We strolled the beach in both directions. Once past the other resorts the beaches had sand bars and shallow areas. Pack some water and snacks but watch for the tide coming in. This was our first trip to an all inclusive and to the south but I was very happy with it. I would definitely recommend it.

Up and coming resort

Our travel party have stayed at 2 other resorts on Cayo Coco/Guillermo and we were pleased with this new resort. This resort certainly has the potential to mature into a top quality resort. The grounds I am sure will be impressive and the beach is by far the best in the area.

Great resort

The pestana resort in cayo coco was a wonderful experience. The grounds,pool and the rooms were great,food was good,people and staff were very nice.I would recommend this resort to all my family and friends. Thankyou.

Very good vacation

Good resort for the $$$$$

Resort was very nice for the price. The pool and the beach were amazing, pool having a swim up bar. Only problem that should be fixed, but it happens at all resorts is people that get up at 6 in the morning to put there towels out on chairs. The seafood was good if you stood in line for it to be grilled, buffet was good, lunch grill good lots of fruits was nice. Short bus ride from airport was a bonus.

Amazing beach....

The Pestana has an amazing beach, no coral just soft sand and lots of tropical fish to see in the clear, aqua water. The staff are pleasant, courteous and rooms are clean with nice decor. The food is ok. The buffet was good with lots of variety, a la cartes were average. Did not like the Italian restaurant. The grounds are beautiful and clean. The weather was amazing when we were there last week of March, 2015,.nothing but sun. On the down side, the beds are hard and pillows soft and thin. Good resort for the value !

This resort is 1&1/2 years old, clean and great access to the beautiful beach. We took the dolphin excursion with Pilar Beach, a must to take. The pool was lovely, the food, well its Cuba. The staff got friendlier as week went on. Weather was amazing and the drinks were cold !

Great R n R !!!!!

Hotel and grounds were very clean close to airport Service was average- however- in buffet- Orleans- was awesome!!!!! a real sweetie he was! the only down part was in order to get a lounger in the shade at the pool and ocean- set your clock for 6am- it is disappointing when many people hoarded chairs at both the pool and ocean and did not utilize them properly!!!! - food in buffet- there were no warmers to keep food hot nor ice for items that should be kept cold

Awesome Experience

We were very happy with our resort experience. The Pestana was a beautiful, medium sized resort with all the amenities. The hotel room was clean, spacious and we loved the large balcony especially for sitting out on when kids were still sleeping. The food was good with a large selection. Book a la cart restaurants as soon as you get there as reservations go quickly (6:30 or 8:30 seatings). All three were good but Cuban and Portuguese were preferred over the Italian. The beach was beautiful. We s [... read more]tayed there from 9:30 until 4 everyday and then stayed by the pool. Our sons enjoyed pool volleyball, water polo, billards and ping pong. Bring a couple of your own towels from home to claims lounge chairs. Shady ones go quickly. Overall, a wonderful time.

Not quite as expected but still ok

This resort was billed as brand new in late '13...it is NOT a new resort; it is a newly renovated older resort. The pluses; reasonably clean and maintained (for Cuba). It is small, which makes getting from place to place comfortable and quick. The beach is gorgeous with miles of beach available for walking and the water in the sheltered bay was very warm in early March. The food was reasonable; surprisingly the vegetables were not overcooked and there was a good variety of 'cooked while you wait [... read more]' dishes. The beds were comfortable. The resort is only a few minutes from the airport. The 'not so nice'; the rooms are small, simply a basic hotel room, with inexpensive furnishings and quirky bathroom fixtures. The beach is quite rocky at the shore, one needs water shoes to get to the sandy area beyond. There was not much shade available on the beach or at the pool. The evening show theater is right in the lobby area which made it a noisy place to be in the evening and there was no alternative place to relax in the evening. We were unable to book any a la carte as they were all booked up when we arrived, I think due to lack of spaces enough to accommodate a full resort. We found the service (coffee, juice, wine etc.) in the buffet to be overly slow, and a severe shortage of utensils especially spoons; and most of the staff was certainly not as friendly and eager as we have experienced at other resorts, although civil enough. Overall we had a pleasant enough holiday; it's hard to beat the warm sunshine and relaxed atmosphere of not having to do anything but try not to get too sunburned :)

Amazing resoprt

beautiful place resort was amazing , beach was beautiful over all very happy with everything in this resort. I recommend this place to everyone .. make sure you go to Moron city and explore the natural beauty..

Nice resort

The resort itself was very nice. The grounds need to be manicured more. The public washrooms could use a lot more light and a much bigger supply of toilet paper. The dining rooms were spacious and the variety of food was great. I have no complaints about the food at all. I thought it was delicious. Our room was beautiful, spacious and clean. The pool was beautiful and the walks along the ocean were amazing. Great time by all.

Incredible Vacation

The hotel was separated by trees from the beach, which enabled us to find shade at the beach each day. Beach and water were wonderful. You could snorkel from the beach to see fish in short weeds. Lots of waterfront toys, enjoyed the hobby cat and kayaks. Close to the airport, which is small and easily navigated.

Needs work

It's hard to review a hotel that excelled in some areas and failed miserably in others. To start off we needed a room change because we had requested a king size bed. Also the shower didn't have a proper connection in our room. We came to find out that a lot of the rooms had this problem. The room change took two days. The line ups for the buffet restaurant were horrendous! If you wanted to eat off of either grill station or the pasta station you had to be prepared for line up of up to 20 minute [... read more]s! If you were happy to eat already prepared food on the buffet you were okay. The food, once you got it, was excellent! I will say that this is the best food we've had in Cuba ever. The alacarte restuarants were very good as well, the best yet. The service in the buffet restaurant was horrible. You had to get your own drinks and it was hard to find a table set. All these issues at the buffet could have been solved with an extra grill station and more staff! The drinks at this resort were HORRIBLE!! If you like fancy drinks, pina colada, Miami Vice, margarita, etc, you will be very disappointed! The pina colada was made with a powder mix and was horrible. It also seemed that whenever the bartenders didn't know what a drink consisted of they just added grenadine. There were a lot of pink drinks floating around. A Miami Vice at the lobby bar was grenadine added to a pina colada. However the mojitos were fantastic! Also the service at the two lobby bars was terribly slow. This too could have been handled better with more staff. The cappuccinos were FANTASTIC! When it came to the issue of our room...The room was very nice and bright. However the house keeping was sadly lacking. The maid did not remove dirty drink glasses (we would bring drinks back to our room at night). After about 4 days we had to bring them down ourselves. We were there for 10 days and after about 6 days we realized that our floor wasn't being washed as evidence by spilled drops of coffee, drinks not being wiped. On about the 7th day my husband took a hand towel and cleaned every surface in our room himself. I was appalled by the filth of the towel. It was black! Clearly the dressers and tables were not being wiped on a regular basis. All of the issues I have mentioned could easily be resolved with hiring more staff and proper training. I've seen these issues mentioned before but obviously nothing is being done to rectify them. All of the issues did not ruin our holiday, however without them our stay would have been excellent. At this time I would not recommend this hotel.

Great Resort!

I have nothing negative to say about this resort. It is a small resort so all amenities are within a short walking distance to everything. Beach was great! Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and food selection was very plentiful. The evening entertainment was also very good, great performers!

Good value for the price

We just returned from this resort March 18, 2015. We paid 2400. dollars and this included Sunwing's cancellation/med. insurance of $80.pp. We had never been to Cuba but have many, many friends who have so we were anxious to check it out. This resort is in Cayo Cocoa, just 20 min. from the airport - a plus! You will see nothing on the bus trip to/from the resort as all employees are taxied/bused, etc into the resort. So bush or trees is the scenery. That was fine for us as we just wanted some sun [... read more] and a rest. We knew not to have high expectations of the food, the accommodations from what others had told us. The food was fine...we didn't loose weight but we didn't gain. It is flavorless but lots of it. The service is second to none. Bring lots of pesos -get some at the airport when you arrive, as they are more difficult to change at the bank on the resort. They change only 5 pesos at a time. The workers depend on those tips and are grateful for them. The lobbycommon area is the gathering place with music at night. There is a theatre for performances that start 9:30 -9:45 pm - a bit late for us. We caught one show the whole week. For night owls it's fine. The cushions in the lobby/common area are very dirty but we have heard, they are looking to replace them in April. Take face clothes. There are none. You may exchange your towel for the pool once a day. Don't loose it as the cost is 20 pesos. We were incredibly disappointed with the beach. We walked it one day but it is very dirty, not with litter, but some kind of charcoal--whether from the tree branches, or what not sure, but my feet were filthy. However, it is packed with people. Try the Tilapia (altho' deep fried-it's fresh). The pool is not heated but refreshing. It does need some tiles replaced and is slippery around so be careful. I think what caught me by surprise is the brown of the grass. We only saw a couple of grounds keepers (as compared to the Riviera Mayan where they are everywhere!). There are no sprinklers and beautiful gardens are nowhere to be seen. Try the fresh coconut (with rum $3.) My husband and others approved. The cuban restaurant was terrible. A chain saw could not have cut our lamb. The Italian was no diff. than eating pasta at the buffet. However, the beef at the Portugese rest. was excellent. We tipped all 3 each night 3 pesos for their efforts. The gym is very small but fills the bill for the week. |Room service makes the bed but I noticed the counters in the bathrooms were never wiped nor the floors scrubbed. I could rate this a 4 star resort but I have nothing Cuban wise to compare it to. We usually stay at a Grand B'hai resort so I'm basing my review on that. However, we pay a ton more for those resorts. We did meet others who have returned to this resort. If you like to indulge in drinks for the week, you will get your money's worth. If you want grand and luxurious, look elsewhere. If you just want clean and a rest, this is fine. Don't stay two weeks, there is not enough to do .
