Roc Lagunas del Mar: WONDERFUL, ATTRACTIVE, FANTASTIC RESORT
I traveled Jan 17-24 2017 with my husband and two kids ages 5 & 8. Our flight to Cuba was great. Checking into the resort was a breeze.
We enjoyed this resort very much. The staff were friendly and always there to help you with whatever you needed. The resort is massive, but there are always carts driving around the resort grounds to assist you if need be. Its so spacious and the grounds are gorgeous. The gardeners are always out as soon as the sun rises keeping the grounds looking fresh a[... read more]nd radiant.
The food was amazing. I heard the food in Cuba isn't the greatest but with this resort you won't be disappointed at all. We ate well. The chicken, beef, and pork were nice and thick, grilled fresh right in front of you. Each station had a chef to cook your food fresh. Breskfast, lunch and dinner. The food was amazing. My favourite was the pasta stations. My chef Alexander was so good. He added all the ingredients I wanted with a little extra Vino Blanco.
My son is a picky eater but he loved the seafood station as he enjoyed the white fish they grilled for him just the way he liked it. They do not disappoint at this buffet.
They have 4 restaurants to make reservations for. All of them were really good and very tasty.
We booked a tour with the Sunwing representative on site and chose to do the catamaran. We got to do snorkeling, a dolphin show with some interaction and lunch at the restaurant. The catamaran also served drinks unlimited. You can swim with the dolphin for $10.00 pesos which is what I did with my daughter. Well worth it. The entire tour was amazing. We started at 8am and got back to our hotel at about 5pm so it was a nice day out of the resort.
Our hotel room was on the ground floor of our building. Our building had some plumbing issues with the shower drains on the ground floor but they were promt in fixing the problem. The showers were so soothing. The rainfall showerhead and handheld shower did the job. Felt so relaxed. The rooms were well maintained by the cleaning lady and the rooms are beautiful and modern up to date. The resort is about 2 yrs old.
The 24hr snack bar was also good. The pizza was the best item on the menu. My personal favourite. My kids and husband enjoyed everything else at the snack bar.
The pool was so big with different sections to swim in. The pool bar was nice and Luis and Armando were awesome bartenders. They brought life to the pool bar. Funny guys.
The beach bars were great as well. Once you enter the beach you have somebody there to help you find a spot and grab your beach chairs. The servers on the beach were quick to serve you too. The watersport activities were part of the resort so you could use the waterbikes, kayaks, and they had smaller catamarans for a small tip fee. $2.00 pesos.
The kids club! My kids loved it! I loved the women who worked there. Amaya was by far our most memorable as she accompanied us to lunch at the request of my kids. She was amazing, and so friendly. We won't forget her or Kenia and the others.
The nightly entertainment was fun to watch. The dancers performed for the crowd and looked amazing. Towards the end of the show they danced with the crowd or brought us up on stage to do a little slasa.
This resort always has a themed night or event going on. Your never bored at this resort. 24 hr drinks and snacks helped curb your hunger and thirsts. Lots to do here.
There is a market area just 10 minutes from the resort. There are 3 of them and even have restaurants and bars as well as a night club. The prices for souvenirs were great. We bought a bongo engraved with our names for $12.00pesos. And we also grabbed some other items.
The workers are so friendly and pleasent and make you feel so welcome. All the Cuban people were a joy and pleasure to meet.
Our bus ride to and from the resort lasts about 1.5 hrs. It was a comfy ride and the causeway was pretty cool. Seeing the local cities was a good sight to see as you get a glimpse of how the locals live.
Overall, our experience at the Warwick Cayo Santa Maria was superb!!!!!!
GOING BACK IN DECEMBER FOR CHRISTMAS!!!

Valentin Perla Blanca Paraiso: first time in cuba and not the last
I was very impressed with this resort. Even with all the bad things people say about Cuba and the food etc. I had no issues with food options and I'm a very picky eater. The room was clean and basic but nice. The back patio door did not lock so we had laid the ironing board along the bottom to keep it shut and told the front desk and they fixed it within a couple hours. Again impressed. The glass separating the bathroom and the beds is very see through so I made sure to bring a shower curtain to[... read more] hang for privacy. Everything was always stocked. The pools were great. Great and friendly wait staff. All the travellers seemed to be from Canada which was nice. Poolside entertainment should change up their morning dance and exercise routines and songs. Its the same thing everyday. The synchro swimming show was great. Magic show was very cool also. I loved the French and Italian restaurants. The French was very quick for service and food. I did find that alot of the lounge chairs were broken. That should really be taken care of in my opinion. Drinks were great. Beach was beautiful. Could have been groomed a bit more but not a huge deal. Grounds workers were alwats out making sure everything looked great. All in all I had a great experience in Cuba and can't wait to return.

Roc Lagunas del Mar: Nice resort but needs improvement
I travelled with a group of 20. The grounds are beautiful and the pools are nice but the service could use some work and the washrooms need to be cleaned more often. We didn't expect great food as it is Cuba but the buffet could use more variety and the lines to get fresh meals were loooonnnggg, sometimes 45 minutes. We booked the A la carte restaurants but when we arrived to 2 of them we were told we didn't have a reservation even though we had confirmed earlier that day with the reservation[... read more] desk. A lot of the patio doors of the rooms do not lock. Bottles of water are not easily attainable. The bus ride from the airport to the resort is much further than I prefer. Next time. we will splurge and go back to Jamaica where the food is good and the service better.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Great Vacation!
The hotel was really good, great location and a really nice beach. The staff is amazing, always trying to make sure you're comfortable, 2 really big and nice pools, great entertainment and awesome drinks. The only downside was the food, but even then you can always find something descent and fresh to eat, especially on breakfast. We had an amazing time, would definitely come back next year, best value for the money we ever got.

Roc Lagunas del Mar: You get what you pay for vacation!!
As you walk into this resort you first thought is stunning!!!
Dont let it fool you!! Rooms are so so woth lots of little issues. Public washrooms are VERY nasty and Front desk and concierge are very difficult to get ahold of if needed. Grounds are very well kept but pool was freezing and not cleaned once the whole week. So by the end of the week it was mirky green colour. One of my families main issues was the buffet. Not vey kid friendly food and lack of heigiene. Cooks were undercooking chick[... read more]en serving it raw aswell as lots of cross contamination in the meat station. By weeks end we had resorted to eat cereal and toast all day long. Wait staff very friendly with children but not much entertainment for kids. I found them to be way understaffed in all areas and lots of lineups for food aswell as drinks at the bar. Dont let anybody fool you into thinking there is internet because there is absolutely nothing!!
If they were to clean up and improve some things I would recommend them but at this point definitely not!!!

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Pleasant stay!
A quick review to stay thank you for such a pleasant stay. I travelled solo over the Christmas holiday so it was nice to be at such a small and intimate style resort. Aside from a few hiccups, I'd rate my entire experience a 7.5/10. Thank you for everything!

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Great resort!
Grounds: beautiful and well kept
Public Areas: clean, tidy and well maintained
Entertainment: was okay, best night was International Dance night.
Rooms: were clean and well maintained. Our room did smell musty though.
Dining: Buffet - food was good, always found something to eat. The 24 hr snack bar had great chicken fingers, the a la cartes - Italian and Asian were really good. Ice cream bar has the best coconut ice cream & Nestle ice cream bars.
Service & Staff: were unbelievab[... read more]le. So friendly and everyone always said hi to you from the gardeners, maintenance staff, dining, front desk, bell boys, etc.
Beach: the beach has a climb down to get to it but is manageable and we had small kids with us. The beach is not a wide beach. However, the water is the cleanest I've seen with no rocks or coral or seaweed just white sand under your feet. We spent every day at the beach it was that great.

Playa Cayo Santa Maria: Nice Resort
The resort grounds was well kept. Rooms were clean and all the staff were really friendly. The food was really good but the buffet kind of got repetitious. Some of the night time shows were less than desirable but the taste drinks made up for it. One of the downsides of this resort was that where was no market or vendors on site.

Roc Lagunas del Mar: Excellent resort
Very much enjoyed my stay at Warwick Cayo Santa Maria. The facilities were clean and modern, the service professional and the beach spectacular.
Catamaran excursion was well worth the cost. It included two snorkeling sessions and some time with dolphins.
Food was plentiful but very mediocre.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Going back!
This hotel was great, easy to navigate and find restaurants, lobby, bars, pools etc.
Lobby - gorgeous, plenty of room for sitting, couches, lounge beds, chairs and tables. Mike's Coffee is off the Lobby and it is so wonderful, they have so many coffee options. Access to WIFI in the lobby (you buy cards 1.5 CUC for an hour). also, the lobby has an incredible view of the ocean, when we arrived it was breathtaking.
We went to the Japanese restaurant, it was very good. highly recommend visiting [... read more]this one. you don't make reservations you just go. we only waited 5 minutes in line to get in.
buffet had plenty of options for all meals, pasta station was the best I've had in Cuba. Pizza was good!
our room was by far the nicest I've been to in Cuba, bathroom was great, the shower was great - good pressure and temp. cleaning was great. we were in building 6 and I would request that building next time. its a perfect location.
beach is smaller than most I've been to, if you go to the left (off of the entrance near building 6) its really rocky, large rocks in the water (we were told this was because of a storm that washed away sand) but if you go to the right of the bar you can walk into the ocean fine. water is a perfect blue colour. there is a nice strip you can walk down!
pool was great, entertainment was lively! always something going on but also quiet times.
restaurant beside the pool was good for lunch. swim up bar was good.
The only downfall is that there is a 2 hour bus ride from the airport but I think the hotel is worth it. you get to drive an hour down a causeway which was an experience, and pass three towns. the bus had a washroom and they sold beer!
everything was good, I will be going back!

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing Resort!
This hotel has lovely grounds, beautiful beach and great entertainment. Our stay was pleasant and although the sink overflowed and the toilet did not flush these discrepancies were corrected. Our bedsheets etc were changed without delay. Overall the stay was pleasant with the beach and the cappucinos being the highlight.

Hotel Roc Casa del Mar: Beautiful resort
Ocean casa del Mar is a beautiful resort. It is very new, clean with attention to details in both the architecture and service. Each day we were greeted with an animal creation made out of towels placed on our beds. The rooms were spacious with fantastic showers. The mattress was new but not overly comfortable. They have pretty standard mattresses without a pillow top. Customer service was excellent. Very lovely people who really didn't speak English very well. The pools, gym, activites were wo[... read more]nderful. I was told you don't go to Cuba for the food and I'd have to agree it wasn't great. The highlights were the stations were omelettes were made fish was fried, and pizzas created (I didn't try the pizza), and fried bananas were prepared especially for you. The buffet had a wonderful selection of food. The beef was very tough and the chicken was dry. I enjoyed the fish and pork and fried bananas with coconut ice cream. The restaurants opening in rotation every night and offered Italian Japanese and seafood specials. Some of the meals were quite lovely. Some were not. The evening entertainment was superb. Live bands great musicians and dancers. The beach was the highlight of the week. I learned the art of doing nothing and had a very relaxing stay. If you want to rest relax drink and enjoy the beautiful resort, ocean casa del Mar is perfect. The island of Santa Marie is dedicated to resorts and tourism. To experience and learn more about Cuban culture & history a different resort or location would be preferable. For us on this trip the resort was exactly what we were looking for. Thank you.

Melia Las Dunas: Amazing Beach!
This was our first time to The Melia Las Dunas. It is an hour and a half from the airport but the transfer went smoothly and learned some facts along the way. Our check in went smoothly and after travelling for a day and a half we were tired and hungry. We had a hard time finding somewhere to get something to eat at 4:30p.m. The buffets don't open until 7pm which I find late. We did find the beer garden where we could get a burger. I asked for a map of the resort with the restaurants and times t[... read more]hings are open but they don't have any. It is a large resort and that would've been nice to have to help find your way to things and find out what activities are being held each day and where. The rooms are very spacious. People in recent reviews had complained of no water and toilets not working. We had no issues with our toilet and had water everyday. It was never hot,hot but did the trick. They don't have face clothes so I suggest bringing your own if you use one. Our room was cleaned daily and the fridge was replenished daily as well. The beach is amazing!! White, flour like sand and beautiful turquoise water. It was quite windy by the water for 4 of our 7 days. The green flag was only up for 3 days we were there but we were still able to get in the ocean and it didn't stop us from relaxing by the ocean. Chairs were easy to get and you can easily get drinks. Unfortunately there isn't a bathroom close to the beach so you must trek a ways. Lots of the public washrooms are out of use. The last two days the ladies had to use the men's with the men by the theater. Food was pretty good for Cuban standards. Always had fresh grilled stations and plenty of food. The nightly entertainment was pretty much the same thing each night but it was good. We loved the live music and bands each night!! I would bring your own ketchup if you're picky with your ketchup as it is quite different from ours. A thermal travel mug is also good to keep your drinks cold and from having to refill as often. Wifi is 2 CUC for an hour but it tends to be down a lot. Very hit and miss. There's a bus that comes every hour that will take you to the shopping centre. It is 2 CUC return. Something different to do for part of a day. All in all it was a good trip! Missing the sunshine already....

Roc Lagunas del Mar: Beautiful Location
Warwick Cayo Santa Maria was a beautiful resort. The pools were stunning and the beach was long with plenty of space for everyone on soft sand. This was unfortunately offset by staff who, while extremely friendly, didn't understand food safety or other cleanliness practices. We repeatedly saw cooked food contaminated with juice from raw chicken along with a host of smaller things - on several occasions we had to abandon a plate and try again. Similarly, the rooms were beautiful with huge walk[... read more]-in showers and decor you'd expect at a high-end hotel in Canada or the USA. There was even a modern TV and stocked/included bar fridge. Unfortunately the mattresses were uncomfortable, the sheets badly stained, and the comforter didn't seem to have been cleaned at all. This resort has so much to offer, if the staff had just a little more training and it could be an outstanding place to vacation.

Melia Las Dunas: Beautiful Beaches, Great Staff
First comment is to remember that we are talking about Cuba. The Hotel itself is very pretty, but fairly large. Good for people who don't mind walking. The staff and especially Guest Services are wonderful to deal with. The food is OK by Cuban Standards, better if you have the time to wait for your food to be prepared in front of you rather than the items that are in the warming trays. Expect issues with water pressure and temperature if your unit is located away from the center of the resort.[... read more] Most days the water was only warm where we were. The pools are very nice and lots of activities by the family pool to keep the little ones happy. For the price and if you remember that no one goes to Cuba for the food, it is a good Hotel. We met many people/families who were returning customers. One thing to consider, it is at least 1 hr 45 min to the airport and most excursions mean that you are travelling a minimum of 2 hours each way.
