Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Good value for my money!

What I liked most about this resort was that it was very compact. Didn't take longer than 5 minutes to get anywhere (rooms - pool - restaurants - lobby - beach). I stayed in building 8 which was very convenient - room was lovely, very comfy bed. The buffet restaurant was not bad, breakfast was probably the best meal served there. I really enjoyed the snack bar for lunch. Missed having a swim up bar but loved that the pool bar stayed open until late!

Riu Merengue: Ok stay-boring for kids

This resort is good for a nice relaxing vacation, there wasn't alot for kids to do at this resort though. I have been to Dominican a few times now and I was a little disappointed in the lack of interaction with the animation team. In the past we got to know the people working on the resort during our stay and at this resort I can't even tell you their names. The food was great, probably the best food with all my stays in Dominican. The rooms were always kept very clean. The A/C didn't work prett [... read more]y much our entire stay but the rooms were sleepable with the ceiling fans. There were always chairs available on the beach and the pool with a group of 11 thats hard to find usually. Overall the resort was good but don't think I would return. Not for the price we paid.

Riu Merengue: Amazing all around!

The Riu Merengue was excellent!! The food was excellent, wide variety and something for everyone! The staff was great, big smiles all around! The resort was very clean and well kept! Loved the beach! Would recommend to anyone and can't wait to go back!!!

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Grew tired of hearing VIP only

The grounds were well- kept and beautiful. If is very hilly, so wouldn't recommend to guests with mobility issues. Our "garden view" was staring at a brick wall off our patio, which on the other side of it was a street. We've traveled a lot and have never seen such a "class" system. Tons of restaurants, bars, beaches and pools that we couldn't go to, because we weren't VIP. This is part of their timeshare that isn't a timeshare program. Makes you feel "less-than".

Paradise Playa Dorada: Absolute Paradise

A week in paradise.. all was great... the food was excellent.. good variety.. great drinks selection...the beach was super clean.. very welcoming staff...!!!! I will recommend this resort and will most likely go back again.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great value for just relaxing

There was no wow factor , but everything , room and the building it was in , food , beer , beach , pool etc etc was pretty good. Housekeeping staff were very good. We recommend somewhere around building 12 if you want some quiet time , and close to the beach but only a minute or two from the pool. Learn the walkways , two minutes anywhere on right walkway. We went beach to eat to pool and so on, ask about free extra cirriculars . Cautions , bring all you need for sunblocks etc., everything is re [... read more]ally expensive. , little mall nearby , got scammed , anything off the resort expect to be upset , eg. a free tour is one way , you pay to come back. Paradise Playa Dorada: Nice,clean,compact with a great beach!

This was our first time to puerto plata -we usually go to punta cana but wanted to try this area of D.R . This resort is 15 min from airport, it is small but easy walk to pool, beach and restaurants. The rooms were renovated,pool was clean with brand new pool loungers,and the beach was great-always could find loungers at the beach with shade and the water was free of seed weed and clear enough to do snorkelling . I found the sand to be soft just like punta cana but just a shade darker,also a lot [... read more] less litter like cigarette butts I encountered in punta cana. This hotel had a lot of Canadians so English was the majority. The only thing this hotel lacks is nightly entertainment and food selection. The nightly entertainment was a kids mini disco and the stage was a 12x12 platform that was put up and down everyday so no big dancing shows on this stage. Now the food, it was fine-breakfast had the omlet station,reg. breakfast items . The buffet at lunch and dinner was ok but there was not enough selection of different items.we ate at the Eden at lunch time-it had the best chicken wings,fries and pizza and burgers.we definitely did not go hungry but if they put more effort into the food and entertainment at this resort,it could be a real gem.the best thing I liked about this resort was the placement of the eating areas-wherever you dined,you were looking out over the ocean and beach and could hear the waves crashing and could view all the mountains surrounding the resorts . I would recommend this resort if you are looking for a cheap vacation and just want to relax in the sun and could get it for 900$ taxes in.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Nice resort but could have been better

The resort is nice but seemed a bit dated. The showers were ridiculous, absolutely no water pressure and barely warm water. We travelled as a family age ranging 60yrs - 9 months. The staff were very attentive to the baby which was nice. I would have liked the buffet to be air conditioned as it is in other Gran Bahias, love this chain but found this one to fall short of our expectations. That being said for the right price we would return.

Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Great resort

Hotel grounds were fabulous. Pools very nice. VIP beach was nice with the sun beds. Buffet meals were ok but a la cartes were great. The rooms could use a little upgrading. The service was very good everybody was always willing to help.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Very clean, quiet resort

Small resort but beautifully landscaped grounds. The hotel is very well maintained. The hotel room was very clean. No bugs, AC worked phenomenally, the showers were always hot, we were in room 4007 near the relax pool. It was a quiet area farther from the bar and buffet. The food was OK. Variety in food was so/so, not many meat dishes. Mostly potatoes, pasta and pizza. The a la cart restaurants were very good. Although, there was only two to choose from- Italian and Mexican but it was easy to bo [... read more]ok and we got more than just 2. I didn't like that the main areas such as buffet and restaurants weren't air conditioned. The beach was beautiful, little to no seaweed and easy to find lounge chairs. The lobby had free wifi but was very slow due to everyone trying to log in. I highly suggest buying the hours for wifi. It worked great in our room and anywhere on the resort. I also didn't like that the main bar closed at 12 and you had to go down to the disco to get drinks because that one stayed open until 2am. The disco was air conditioned but nasty. Smelled like mold because it was in the basement. Very few people there aswell, everyone went to cabarete to party which is a 10 minute walk on the beach. I wouldn't walk in alone at night though. The shows aren't really my thing but the animation crew were really good at what they do. Front desk was Always very helpful. Location was great, very close to caberete where the nightlife is very live. I would reccomend this hotel only because of its location to caberete. Overall I had a good time.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Good trip with a few little bumps

Good clean resort and worth it if the price is right! Beautiful beach, nice pools, average food, clean rooms! Seems a little short staffed, but all in all if the price is right its a steal of a trip!!

Loved every minute will be back again 5th time . great food great staff excellent beach excellent excursions loved every minute. Can't wait too return year after year. Thank you it was a great vacation.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Great place to rest!!

Hotel is very family friendly. The staff is always with games to entertain the kids. Food wise there is a lot a variation and different restaurants to choose from. Overall the hotel is very clean and the staff is very kind with everyone. I'll give it a 3,5star :)

The hotel was good other than some loud banging of doors in middle of the night.friendly service good food lots of drinks.the beach not the best for kids water very rough pool was nice.overall we had fun.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Pretty good experience

The resort overall was nice. We experienced some minor issues with our room but had them resolved fairly quickly. Food was excellent in buffet as well as a la carte but snack area was only mediocre. Pool area was large and nice and beach area was large as well but was hit or miss with debris and seaweed in water/shoreline. Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Be Live Grand Marien.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: a solid 3 star resort with very friendly, staff

I stayed in the Catalina bldg. Comfortable king bed, hot water, fan, AC all worked properly. Any issue I had was remedied in good time. Bartenders, wait staff, front desk, house keeping, cooks, animation (Jenny my long time friend), security, Bel hops, hostesses were all very helpful and professional. Decent variety quantity and quality in the buffet restaurant, it was good enough so I only dined there. All in all a good value for your money in a very good location.

Paradise Playa Dorada: This resort is amazing

Thor resort is beautiful, grounds and garden were cleaned daily. Great service and very friendly and entertaining. Two beach sections very clean. Vendors are ok. Just buy one or two things and they leave you alone. Food was always good. Something always new. Just need more music and a closer bar at the beach.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Great Vacation

We were at this resort from April 10 to 17' 2015. We thought the staff were very good to work with. The grounds, pools and beaches were great! The rooms were adequate and the ala cartes were good. All and all it was really good value for the money!

Paradise Playa Dorada: Awesome and friendly!!!

been to the caribean many times, and we have never had such great staff. front desk staff were always friendly. Our rooms were very clean and comfortable. Always something good to eat. The Italian a la carte was fantastic in all ways. Best snorkeling and swimming beach area in Playa Dorada. Can' t say anything bad about the resort, only the beach vendors trying to make a living. And the resort has no say about it there. The time share people can be a bit pushy too, since they work on commission. [... read more] But AWESOME overall!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: 5 star at a 3 star price

Beautiful beach, clean, secure, no beach hustlers, great food, and peace and quiet! The infrastructure is a bit tired in places, but the staff and their service is top notch! The buffets are above average to other resorts, and all 3 restaurants were terrific!
