Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Exceptional Hotel
Our stay from August 20-27, was wonderful. We celebrated our 25th Anniversary while there. The hotel sent champagne and strawberries to our room that day. That night at dinner the sample was covered in rose petals and more champagne. Above and beyond.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso del Mar: Amazing experience
We were stoned by the size of the pools and generally the hotels, you feel like in a small city, no need to go outside; plenty of things for kids to do; people extremely nice everywhere at the hotel. Great food.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Stunning
Initially they sent us to another persons room, so they upgraded us to junior suite. Weather was perfect. It was the furthest hotel from the airport, but very worth it. It was only about 50 minutes. Very new. The food was better than other hotels. The beach isn't very nice but the water was, so that didn't matter. Crystal clear water. They weren't any hotels on either sides, so that was nice. The staff were fast friendly. Staying here again for sure.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Iberostar Daiquiri
The hotel is by no means a 4 star even at Cuban standards. The quote "updated rooms" are by no means 4 star but they suffice. the beach and grounds themselves excellent and worthy of 4 star rating for sure. We are not pool people but we did venture in a few times and ever though the pool is small it was not crowded even during the foam party which was a lot of fun.
There was an issue the first 3 days we were there with beach towels. It finally took a visit to the ola sun rep Juan and a trip t[... read more]o customer service to get our first beach towels, After that there were towels every day no problem. They explained that all laundry is done off site on the mainland and that there was an issue with the company doing the laundry.
The general hygiene of the the buffet is poor however. we were welcomed with dirty table clothes that continued to be there for the week without being changed. As per the beach towel issue above the laundry is done off site, however this is not an excuse. The chairs are due for a replacement but the tables as actually OK. They would be much better of removing the cloths completely. They use the black mesh things on the table put your plate on however these harbour germs and bacteria and the waiters and waitresses don't seem to be provided with any cleaning products to wipe them down after each use. This is just general hygiene that needs to be addressed and is letting the hotel slip in standards.
Most of the reviews I have read said that the food was good. I don't know if my standards are different but it was not good. It was better than 12 years ago but the smell of burnt food was the first thing that hit you as you walked into the buffet area. Most times the pasta was edible and the burgers were hit or miss but stay away from the beef. There were 2 toasters and i learned after the 2nd day to place bread in the 2nd one 4 times alternating sides each pass and it toasts. The 2nd did not even warm bread and neither had working controls. there was burnt pork chop, burnt beef and chicken all cooking on the same grill so I was very concerned over cross contamination. There was a separate fish grill which always had cat fish. the salad bar was made up of cucumber, sometimes tomato and purple cabbage. We did not see any form of lettuce for the week.
We ate at the Mexican which was a bit of a joke but cleaner than the buffet at the front of the house anyway. The Italian was no better as we ended up at the buffet after eating there and we were told by other guests not to go the the Cuban. At the pool snack bar during the day they did cook some very good food. The burgers were not burnt and they cooked "chicken parts" which were pieces of chicken cut up into small wing type bites which were coated and deep fried. They were excellent.
Enough with the bad. We went for beach and relaxing and did not expect top notch food and that's exactly what we got.The shows and the entertainment team are top notch and although the venue for shows is small and the AC does not seem to work well they put on some pretty fun entertainment.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great Time
Hotel grounds are well maintained. The seaweed on the beach was never cleared the whole week we were there. The beach in front of the hotel is full of seaweed. Service was okay. Food was good. A couple of times I had to wait for food to replenish. There was one guy managing two different food sections. He had to run back and forth between the two sections to replenish the food what I found was a little bit weird. They should have at least onee guy per station.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Very Good Amenities, and Frienly Staff
We enjoyed our stay in this hotel it has excellent amenities, such as the Pools, beaches, and Activities. The Food at the buffet was surprisingly good for Cuba, although, we wished that they had Lobster. The Staff are very friendly, although there were a couple of Front desk staff who were a bit snappy, luckily you do not have to interact with these individuals a lot. The staff that you do interact with are very friendly.
The one short fall that I have to mention was the condition of the rooms[... read more]. The rooms could use some updating and fixing. The sliding door to the patio in our room was hard to open, as a matter of fact you could hear which guests were opening the Patio doors. The sheets had stains, the Furniture in the room had stains, and numerous other deficiencies. One has to accept the fact that the room is there to sleep, bathe, and change in, and not there for one to stay in all the time. This is Cuba, and one has to realize that they do not have access to the same resources/materials and standards that we are accustomed to here in Canada. Get past this point, and this is a very good Hotel/resort.
My suggestion to anyone thinking of going to Cuba is to leave Canada with an open mind, and do not be too critical and remember where they are. Do your research with the currency and culture, remember that the CUC is pegged to the US Dollar, so if the Canadian Dollar is low, you will suffer with the exchange rate.
The Cuban people are genuinely friendly, and lead simple lives. Cuba is a very safe country to visit, I would not hesitate to go back to Cuba with my family again.

Iberostar Selection Ensenachos: Amazing beach, Terrible food
Having been south of Florida between the Caribean and Central America more than 30 times my review has some experience behind it.I will start off by saying that the beach there is absolutely gorgeous unfortunately the resort is not so nice the food quality is terrible with recycled food every day, If it wasn't eaten on day 1 it was put back out day after day.I have never gotten food poisoning in all my travels except this place.Even the Ala carte restaurants were terrible so bad that we had to g[... read more]et up and walk away from our dinners. At the bars they were even washing out the cheapest .02 cent cups and not even doing a good job of that as I was having a drink and ended up with sand in my mouth. As for the rooms they were decent except for the beds that are in desperate need of replacement nothing like lieing in bed and feeling like your going to roll out bed because the spring are so shot.I will definitely not be going back to this resort.I forgot to mention the fact that the floor in our room got swept once the hole week we were there, bed made towels changed that's it and we left a good tip
every day.

Iberostar Waves Rose Hall Beach: Great hotel!
This was actually a great hotel to spend a week. Rooms were clean and food was amazing! Disco was good, music great! The beach is small but you can walk along to the other Iberistar properties. The only issue we had was with the check-in. It was incredibly disorganized and we had to wait 45 minutes.

Iberostar Selection Bavaro Suites: Funtastic Family Vacation
We spent a fantastic week at Iberostar Bavaro Suites from July 11th - 18th
Likes: room was big enough for 4
Pool, Beach, Staff, Entertainment, Golf, Gym, Amenitites
The pool area was fantastic. Lots of space. We didn't use the pool with the swim up bar. But the deep, zero entry, and kids pool were well used by our family. The bar near the pool was never crazy busy and there was always someone walking around to clear your cups and bring you another. There was plenty to be involved in at[... read more] the pool area. The entertainment staff did a great job.
The beach was beautiful. Lots of chairs. Lots of shade. The beach bar has a great vibe and they grill burgers and hotdogs to order. Best burgers on the resort. There was always a BBQ on the beach and more often than not, there was lobster involved. Do not miss the Paella Party! The water could be a little choppy but I found it not too bad. Sauble Beach or Grand Bend can be much more rough in my opinion. Seaweed comes in a little with the tide in the late afternoon but not all that bad.
The room is quite large. Tile floors so watch for slippery floors if you come in wet. Not at all noisy. Discovered when we left there were people above us. We did not hear them. Air conditioning functioned well but you do not control the temperature. Drying rack on the porch was handy. Bar was restocked daily but snacks dwindled at the end of the week.
Evening shows were fun. Do not miss the circus show! It is open air. The bar is close by and there is always someone taking orders.
The grounds are beautiful. My only regret was not spending more time exploring.
Water sports are run by Dressel Divers. We did kayak..was a great time! They are very professional and offer water based excursions. We went on the full day Snorkel to Saona Island. I highly recommend that.
Food. A La Carte meals were quite good. Although the service is a bit slower and so you should expect your meals to take about 1.5 hours. These meals are air conditioned. Except steak House.
The buffets are open air. Was warm but nice. Service was pretty good for drinks and plate clearing. The staff in the food area were lovely. We simply did not really like the food. Typically we are not buffet people and are a bit picky as I am excellent in the kitchen. Still there were some good items (ribs, churros, fresh juice bar, salad bar, taco night). We were able to find something. I found the pool buffet to be the best one for lunch. Always lots of fruit available. Passion fruit looks awful but served with a little bit of honey, was my new favorite.
The golf at Iberostate was good. It is worth it to bring your clubs and shoes. My husband golfed the course 4 times. Enjoyed it each time.
The gym is beautiful. Lots of classes and good equipment. If you workout regularly you will be happy there.
Kids club offers a good variety of activities. My kids were not interested in going. Definitely best suited to younger children (5-8 or so).
The staff that work with guests speak many languages. It is amazing how multilingual they are. Once they find out you are Canadian they do prefer to speak French. But will gladly speak English if your French is a little rough around the edges.
Overall- I would not hesitate to return, except we didn't like the buffets. For this reason only we will look elsewhere for next time.
I definitely recommend this resort to others.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Very enjoyable resort.
After reading lots of negative reviews, I was not sure what to expect.
I found this resort very clean, food very good, service great, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The beach was beautiful. Although we did find the loungers hard on the back.
I can see where some people had an issue with the room towels, bud I didn't let it spoil my vacation. The rooms were good size, a little bit tired, but had everything we needed. The maid did a great job with keeping it clean.
I'm not a first t[... read more]imer to Cuba, I've been many times to different star rated resorts, I find "most times" you get what you pay for. I found this resort good value for money.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: A bit disapointed
We stayed at Iberostar Daiquiri from July 22 to July 29 (4 adults and 2 children). When we arrived we were impressed with the place. We tough we made a good choice given the fact that we spent a lot of time in looking for a place that would be ideal for us traveling with small children. The rooms were ok (not the cleanest but we did not go for the rooms). Food for the first 2 days was ok - quality and quantity. After the 2nd day the hotel was invaded with Cuban families - either family or acquai[... read more]ntances of employees. The quality of food and quantity took a sharp decline and the service too (at this point most employees did not care about foreign tourists they were catering for their own families - it was so obvious - as an example: one morning we were looking for some yogurt for our children but they said they only have it every other day. Ok no problem. We waited another two days still no yogurt. When we left the buffet, on the hall, one employee was giving yogurts from a bag to another lady, supposedly her family member...).
The only consistently positive thing about the place is its beach. I would recommend this hotel from October to May when only tourist are allowed to stay.
