Riu Merengue: Great R&R!!

Nice place for a weeks vacation in the DR. While it was not the Ritz it certainly was worth the price we paid. Generally : Clean and well kept Hotel although rooms could do with a little update and refinish. Water pressure is iffy and failed a few times but a call to reception got it reasonably fixed within a couple of hours - However be prepared for a testy person at the other end of the line when you call in to follow up. Food : Merengue has only 2 dining areas - The Steak House, which was o [... read more]nly open for dinner once during the week we visited, and the Italian Restaurant which was turned into the only daily Buffet place. Food though was reasonably good (pan fried Mahe mahe and grouper were the best), accept at the pool side snack bar which only served the same fare every day - overcooked burgers (perhaps justified), pasta, fried /baked chicken, salad and fries until 6.00pm! Only problem in the dining area was flies! netting at the open windows would probably have helped. The Bachata (sister hotel next door) where you can also enjoy lunch but not dinner as part of the deal, did not appear to have this problem. Pool: Didn't step into it even once as we were there to enjoy the beach and the ocean!! so no comment. Beach: Nice and clean, although, expect the water to be choppy as it's on the Atlantic side. No shortage of beach chairs. Towels may be a problem occasionally. Sea sports: Not much to choose from. Lousy to non-existent snorkeling sites in the vicinity and if you Scuba you'll be disappointed. Service: Staff are generally friendly although you may cross the odd exception.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: good times!

Had a great time at this resort been there before. It has changed a bit though was disappointed that they didn't remember my sisters birthday when we saw others they celebrated..our toilet did not flush well at all. Food wasn't bad but is the same all week got a little sick of that..but over all entertainment was good at the pool and place was kept clean. They work very hard and it shows!

Riu Reggae: Ok resort for the money we paid

Grounds very congested. Too many chairs in a small space. . Spent most of our time at Riu Montego Bay. Rooms were ok but followup from management re issues were not followed through i.e. 3 days to get blanket, mini bar filled once in 7 days . Some rooms made up some not at all. Food staff and bar staff were excellent. Food was ok buffet was as good as a la carts. Other than premium drinks at Reggea we enjoyed our time at Riu Montego Bay better as they had drink service around the pool and on th [... read more]e beach. Beautiful foyer and sitting area at Montego Bay as well as casino (small but fun) and excellent staff . Its new and hopefully they will work the bugs out.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Resort has gone downhill

This was our forth time at this resort. We will not return. The resort has gone downhill. From rats scurrying in the lobby to cockroaches on the buffet and large bugs in the room. We had a large bug lost in our room somewhere. We don't know what is was because it scurried out of a sandal too fast and climbed the curtains but it was quite large. The front desk offered to fumigate our room but I couldn't stay in the room knowing that was in there so we asked to change rooms which they accommodated [... read more]. They used to have something going on in the lobby each evening so you would have something to do after dinner but they have done away with that as well. :( We made the best of it and had a great time with our friends anyway. This used to be a great resort It's sad to see it go downhill like this.

Riu Santa Fe: Beautiful Resort, Great location to everything!

Resort was beautiful and a great location. The Service in the restaurants was not great, very disorganized, and rushed you out the door. The resort was very clean, but if you had a problem like we did our toilet did not work, it took them two days to fix it. This again was due to disorganization, in communication in this resort. Riu Palace Riviera Maya: Amazing resort

We absolutely loved this resort,its was beautiful and the seevice was top notch,only great things to say,we had a beautiful honeymoon,many thanks to our travel agent Amanda for recommending this resort:)

Riu Guanacaste: Typically Excellent Riu Resort.

My wife and I had a wonderful two-week vacation at the Hotel Riu Guanacaste resort in Costa Rica. The resort reached, or exceeded all our expectations with regard to location, accommodation, service, food, cleanliness, friendly staff, pools, beach, bars and entertainment. The evening entertainment was exceptionally professional. We cannot think of anything to complain about.

Riu Palace Tropical Bay: Awesome Experience

Everything at the RIU Palace Tropical Bay Negril was fantastic. All services, maids, bartenders, servers, chefs, front desk Smiley...everybody was helpful and polite. We will definitely return to RIU. Food was excellent, beach was awesome.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Riu Palace Paradise Island

The stay at the Riu Paradise Island was good. The hotel rooms and the whole place including the pool need updating/renovating. The place was clean, did not see any type of a bug or any issues. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was great lot's of variety.. but it is not a 5 star old and out dated.. The beaches are great a little rough for my liking but beautiful.. The hotel should have a shuttle to the Atlantis as it is a 20 minute walk and if you do not want to walk it is a 20 [... read more] dollar cab ride a bit expensive 4 dollars a person. 5 of us was 20 dollars. We did have a great time with our friends, my friends liked everything about the resort and so did I but again it is very out dated. You should not have carpets in the rooms it should be tiles so it should not be too damp and musty smell.

Riu Reggae: Vacation at Riu Reggae- Jamaica Nov 24/16.

1) The resort is 5 minutes from airport. We were on Vacation and NO reason to sit on the bus for more than hour waiting to leave- there is need for better organizing. 2) Airplanes taking off low right over the hotel all day. 3) Hotel is nice, opened Nov 19/16 and still in finishing progress. The garden has palm trees and shrubs. They were just planted and it will need 1-2 years to look lavishing green. Lots of potential. 4) Check in and check out was fast, staff was very friendly, pleasan [... read more]t and attentive to our needs. 5) Rooms are nice, big, with big terrace. Fridge is replenished as needed. Bathrobes are very nice touch. Room service was very good. 6) Beach- small- if you like to walk this is not beach for you. First few feet in the water nice sand then unpleasant mud and water grass. 7) 2 Pools with pool bars. People sitting in the pool and drinking all day and you have to swim in it? I don't thing so. Does not feel appealing. Lots of loungers around the pool with canopy or umbrella, service offering refreshments. 8) We expected better food selection in five star hotel. However, what was offered was prepared well and tasty. 9) Something new at Riu Resorts. No more booking for restaurant. Did not like that. To get in you have to line up 1 hour before opening and at the end we did not get in. The Steak House food and service was the best. We were waiting just for a short time to get in but they already solved the waiting problem; they offered sparkling wine, chair and you did not have the feeling you are waiting. 10) All in all we had very good time, weather was perfect, staff very nice. We love Jamaica, next year we would like to try Riu Negril resort.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Amazing resort...

We were there for one week and I have to say it was one of the best vacations I have ever had. The staff was wonderful and so accommodating. The first night we arrived they were putting us on the 15th floor. That was a smoking floor and we asked to be moved and they moved us to another floor and upgraded us to a better room. We had an amazing view of the ocean from our balcony, we loved it. The food was the best I have had to date. The buffet was so good, the variety of food was amazing. The a l [... read more]a cart restaurants were wonderful. For an older resort it is well maintained and I loved that everything was close meaning the pool and the beach. The beach was beautiful. We were there Nov 27th to Dec 4th and the weather was great. I would recommend this resort in heart beat, I will certainly be going back there again.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Paradise

Stayed for a week at the Riu Palace in Paradise Island. Amazing Ocean view room. Food was great, lots of fresh vegetables, vegetarian options, lots of variety...something for everyone. The resort staff was welcoming and always quick to respond. I would definitely recommend this resort and return. Beach was amazing.

Riu Reggae: great time

Nice resort. New. Is not a 5 star if they don't have drink service to beach and pool area. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. House keeping is working through some issues. Made me wait until 5 to check in.

Riu Palace Jamaica: Lazy Vacation In The Sun

The Riu Palace Adults Only offers good value for the hard earned money you spendt on your vacation. The rooms are very clean, everything in it works, like plumbing (no plugged or slow draining drain), hot water (water is HOT), shower heads (not plugged by calcium) the bed is very comfortable and there are ample pillows available. The TV offers a many different channels and if you are into Soccer and Cricket you will never leave your room. Program wise there is something for everyone and channels [... read more] are available in most popular languages spoken in the Caribbean. The Hotel offers a wide variety of foods. Breakfast and Lunch, there is something for everyone. There are 5 different Restaurants open at night which offer Italian, Classical, Japanese, Steak House and Buffet Type meals. The Food is absolutely GREAT and TASTY. WARNING: bring dress pants, they won't let you in the Italian, Classical and Japanese establishments unless you wear dress-pants. Shorts are not allowed. I did NOT bring long pants, (for heavens sake am in Jamaica) and therefore did not visit the Classical and Japanese establishments. I did get to eat in the Italian Restaurant and the Osso Bucco was truly excellent. The bars, lobby bar, aqua bar and two pool bars where great. The Riu palace Hotel needs to be complimented in their decision to serve good and well known brands of liquor and liqueurs at their bars. But most of all, the employees made my stay a memorable one. I found the staff being very friendly and laughing comes east to them. I will be back, I had a very good time. Thank you.

Riu Naiboa: Wonderful experience.

Riu Naiboa is a beautiful place to plan a vacation. If you have a young family, there is an incredible water park. The rooms are very clean, housekeeping staff is always smiling. the buffet has a great selection of food. The A-la-cart is very tasty as well. The swimming pool could use a fresh coat of paint. the front desk staff are very fluent in multiple languages. I truly enjoyed my stay.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: Honest Review

This hotel is very good for people travelling without children. The food is really good and the beach is as nice as varadero cuba. The rooms are very nice and a bit old, but overall very good. The hotel staff are always friendly and asking if they can assist. Atlantis is next door and there is lots to do. The bad - the beach vendors are a bit annoying and the taxi drivers never have change. This has nothing to do with the hotel - but be prepared for this in Nassau. Riu Palace Costa Rica: Very nice resort

We found the staff very friendly and accommodating. The hotel was clean & well kept, the grounds were beautiful. Washrooms too far away from pool & beach area. The beach area should have a bar & a lunch area...a bit of a jaunt back to hotel We would choose Riu again.

Riu Merengue: The Beach and Bartenders are nice...that's it

The hotel is old. You will get any actual key to open your door if you go with a friend they only give you one until you ask for another. The room had roaches crawling from the drain. The bathtub is small. The wifi is only avail in the lobby. Almost like a happy jail. The food meats like chicken/beef is undercooked cause they rush it. I ended up eating only fries for lunch and that was undercooked at times. I looked forward to breakfast getting a freshly made omelette ,I'm now I'm sick of omele [... read more]ttes and won't be having eggs for awhile. Italian fresh pasta night was very good. Flies are everywhere but on the beach I guess because it's an open concept it was a turn off for me after day 1. If you aren't a smoker like me you won't enjoy the lobby for wifi or the entertainment centre people light up like chimneys. The beach was my sanctuary. The sea bed is bit rocky and a rough under current. However, The sun is great and unlimited. Some of the staff don't seem to not give you the best service unless you tip them. It's 10 / hr US if you want a later check out if you have a later flight. Check out is 12pm if you leave at 6 that's 60 bucks US. The room is cut off to give more patio space meh. They should've use the upgrade to fix the drains and mold in the rooms. If you sunbathe at the beach you will be out of touch with the activities happening on the resort. There's a lot of older people that go there Enjoy your naps on the beach that's what's truly free and unlimited. Bring a lot of $1...American. Whoever is in charge upgrade the rooms! Pay your staff more so they don't rely so much on TIPS. I won't be back lesson learned pay the extra for a comfortable stay. Don't ignore this review this is the truth take it with a grain of salt. I'm glad I'm back home.

Riu Reggae: Work to be done still

This hotel is in its early stages....They need to address the lack of seating @ the a la carts, first & foremost, in addition to the inability to walk the beach @ the Riu Palace in order to get over to the Riu Mo Bay. The entertainment was sketchy, with decent shows 3 out of the 7 nights. We had a great time as we were on vacation, but we've been to Jamaica multiple times and expected more from Riu as we are a fan & repeat customers of the chain. Food was hit & miss, and waiters need to be trained on how to address customers with food allergies, as there were limited options in some of the a la carts, to the point where we had to eat @ the buffet (salad / apps) prior to going to dinner. Chefs need to be a little flexible and sensitive..... There is NOTHING Jamaican about the Riu Reggae, the Ikea furniture and prints throughout the hotel where not for us....

Riu Palace Peninsula: Rui Palace Peninsula

We really enjoyed our stay at this great 5 star hotel. We bought it as a last minute trip but it was all the bells and whistles. Friendly staff, great food in the Buffett and other restaurants. The room was superb and terrific view of the ocean. Would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to go back soon.
