The atmosphere was great, the people were nice and I guess depending on the time you go will depend on what other age groups will be there. It was party central first week of May and then turned into an older crowed by may 10th.
Quality of the resort compared to the last 2 resorts I went too was a 6/10 if that... the toilet in our room rarely ever flushed even though we asked for it to be fixed twice, the buffet hours don't make sense and some night it's not even open. The grill is only open f[... read more]or 3 hours at lunch and it was the best place for food so that was unfortunate. The 24 hour bar and grill is actually a 12 hour bar because it is only open after dusk. If I wasn't there with the intentions to drunk and party I would be very upset with the quality of the rooms and food. And not that it's the resorts fault but the mosquitos were so bad we came back with welts.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Great Family Vacation!
We arrived at the Melia Cayo Santa Maria April 29 2017 7 of us in total. Let me start by saying the bus ride is really long so be prepared.
Check In
Went pretty quick with friendly reception. I had sent an email requesting that the 4 rooms we had booked be close together and they did that which was excellent.
Rooms
They are clean, pretty but dated, the beds are hard. I think they could use an update.
Pools and beach
The pools are big lots of chairs and shade. The BEACH is amazing [... read more]but its Cuba and beaches are always good.
The people are so friendly and cannot do enough for you.
Food
The buffet was awful, no change usually the same everyday.
The restaurants where very good so we stuck to those for lunch and supper.
All in all we will not be returning to this area as the distance from the air port is to long and one has to think what does Cayo Santa Maria have that other areas of Cuba that are closer to the airport have? In my opinion nothing.
If they build an airport closer I would definitely come back.
Thanks for a great family vacation filled with great memories Cuba!

Hotel Camino del Mar: Great Resort/Excellent Value
The buffet was very good. Big selection...fruits, vegetables, fish, roasted chicken, beef, ham ,fajitas made to order one evening, grilled lobster and pasta to name just a few. Service was excellent in the dining room.
The beach is beautiful. There are sand flees and they do bother me, so we moved onto the pier. The section between the pool and the beach is also very nice and I was not bothered by the sand flees.
Beach was not busy. The didn't have any tonic the week we were there, not a b[... read more]ig deal I found another drink I liked.
The rooms were a bit tired, but we don't spend a lot of time there.
Wifi worked for us. Buy a card 1.5 CUC.
Took the double decker bus to Melia Cayo Coco for 5 CUC's each (return) and spent the day. Beautiful resort.
We just like to relax, so a perfect place to go.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Awesome beach!
The room was cleaned well.
We were up graded to a king room with oceanview!
I had not rquested anything but first room had 2 double bed and we asked it a king was available.
Main walk way was under construction. This was dangerous in the dark. Also it was not a good job. It would be more impressive if the main walkway was redone completely.
Fresh omelets at breakfast and
grilled tilapia were great!
I ate so much fresh mango and papayas....love that!

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beautiful Resort
The hotel was extremely clean. Rooms were big and spacious. The beach was long and beautiful to walk on. It seemed they may have been a little understaffed because there season was coming to an end but not sure on that. We were there from April 29-May 6th/2017. The food was good. The first few days we were skeptical about the buffet but it turned out fine. When it came to restocking the fridge they only did it once for the seven days we were there. Not a big deal but annoying when they [... read more]say the fridge is stocked everyday. We did call three times but didn't make a difference. We always had plenty of towels except for one day when they only supplied us with one The sand fleas were out in droves so make sure you bring lots of repellent. My husband had a bad reaction to them which required a needle at the medics. That all being said we would definitely go back to this resort.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Enjoyed our stay!
Great beach. Nice pool. Plenty of lounge chairs on beach and pool. Staff was friendly and nice. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The food was fine - not fantastic but good for Cuba. The Japanese restaurant was excellent.
Bring bug spray if you go in May - the mosquitoes were plentiful.

Melia Cayo Coco: Nice Resort
Resort was okay. Really needs updating. Food was very good. Service was average, I often felt like we were bothering them. Maybe they were understaffed. Beach was spectacular, always got a shaded area. Never seen so many mosquitoes, even in the morning. People were running to their rooms to avoid them. Bring heavy duty bug spray. I got tons of bites.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Amazing
Trip was April 28 - may 5 and was crowded full of people in their 20s. Solid party resort if you go at end of university/college season. Food was great. Resort was exceptional. Room was exceptional. Staff were exceptional. Swamp by the 24hr bar smells shitty they should just clear the swamp tbh. Aside from that amazing. 4.7/5

Melia Las Antillas: Average resort
The rooms are outdated. There were a few things that needed to be repaired: a switch light was broken in a bathroom, sink was leaking and there were stains in bathtub. Only switch light was fixed. Also, the mini fridge wasn't restocked every day. We had to call twice. Location is great: beach is amazing as the pool area. Very spacey. The food at the buffet is great with a lots of varieties. Everybody could find something for themselve: fish, seafood, meat, pasta, pizza, salads, pickles, vegetable[... read more]s, and fruits. Romantico Restaurant a la cart was the best. Service is not the best especially at the lobby bar. They not friendly and slow. They favoured guests who tipped the most. Of course there are some exeptions. The bartender at the pool and beach area are much nicer and faster.
Arrival: We were greeted with smiling faces and a fresh drink upon arrival. Check-in was very quick.
Rooms: The room we had overlooked the pool area which was quite nice. We could hear the music in the evening from the terrace. Our maid, Ines, did a great job keeping the room clean and refreshing our towels. When we would see her, she always made a point of asking if we needed anything. The beds were roomy and comfortable. Bar fridge was restocked daily. No issues with bugs or critter[... read more]s. There was never any issues with water. Always available and the right temperatures. The room could do with a little update especially the bathroom tub and ceiling
Food/Drink: We always found something to eat at the buffet. Selection was similar each day, but plenty to pick from. The pasta chef, Michel, went above and beyond trying to find a sauce spicy enough to satisfy a guest that was standing in front of me. Impressive! The ladies making the morning smoothies and cooking the omelette on the right side were very good and always greeted me with a smile and good morning. Smiles go a long way.
The Italian restaurant was very good with professional service. We, too, enjoyed the Cuban/Seafood a la carte. Did not try the Mediterranean a la carte. Guests have the option of trying all three a la carte. We did not have to wait long to book either of these restaurants.
The snack bar beside the pool bar was pretty good. They had a menu, offered small buffet and serviced burgers, fries and sandwiches. Occasionally they had calamari available which was pretty good. The Mojito drink is very good there. One of the servers' speciality (don't remember her name)
We were disappointed in the drink selection. Not many to select from at the beach bar nor at the pool bar. No menu available. So when asked for a particular kind they either didn't make it (ie. Banana Mama) or didn't know what it was. The last day couple days we did get one of the girls to make a concoction (Pina Colada slush and melon liquor). It was very good. Early in the day were the best slush drinks. By mid afternoon it was mostly melted and made drinks more liquid like. At other resorts, you can sometimes get a better drink from the lobby bar. Not at this resort. However, it was a nice place to sit and relax in the evening either inside by the bar or outside on the terrace listening the live entertainment.
The bbq at the beach bar was very good too. The chef was very friendly.
Grounds: The beach was beautiful. Perfect for a long walk or run from one end to the other. There were lots of chairs and shade available. Lots of fun playing volleyball, jumping the big waves or just relaxing. They didn't play the music too loud even when sitting beside the hut.
The down side of this beach was the pack of dogs that hung out further down the beach. The first morning on a run I was attacked by two of them. They came charging at me viciously. Screaming for help, I tried to keep them off me with a water bottle I was carrying. Eventually I backed into the water when they decided to back off. It wasn't until the dogs backed off and I started up the beach (in the water sneakers and all on) that a worker from that resort came down telling me the dogs would not hurt me. It was because I was running. It certainly didn't appear that way. Had it not been for the water bottle I think I would have been dealing with dog bites!
That same day we had a meeting with our Sunwing rep. I told her about the incident. She advised not to trust the dogs and it would be reported. Unfortunately that did not solve the issue of the dogs. I attempted to run on the beach two more mornings and saw the dogs on the beach again. Being aware of their existence, I would turn around and race back to the Melia Las Antillas before they had a chance to catch up with me.
Not only were the dogs on the beach in the morning, there was one of them that ran up and down the beach during the day doing it's business anywhere. So be careful where you step! One early evening we saw the pack of dogs on the beach. One evening there was a dog on our resort. Laying around on the chairs beside the pool and chasing the cats. It followed us back to the lobby. I reported this and told them about my incident with the two dogs. The lady at the desk said they would report it to security who would have someone come get the dogs. Obviously they didn't take the too far because we continued to see them. This incident alone has made my decision on not returning to this resort or any resort on the Tainos Beach.
I was very surprised by the service on the beach by some (not all) workers. Each morning there was a man on the beach sitting in a chair. Quite often I would get my own loungers. Drag or lift them through the sand to the hut. One morning one guy leaned against some loungers right beside the loungers I was lifting and dragging. It wasn't until one of my friends started to look for pieces to repair the chairs that he helped. He had not issue taking the tip that was given to him. However, there are a couple workers that are very helpful.
There is no bar service on the beach. Suggest you get a hut near the entrance up to the bar. And there is no bathroom facilities. You have to continue the walk pass the bar to the pool bathrooms.
The pool area is very nice and clean. Entertainment doesn't really start until later in the day. Nice and quite in the morning. There are lots of loungers available. Staying away from the swampy area would be suggested. Sometimes get the smell of sulphur from there. The hammocks are a very nice touch to this resort. It's a relaxing area in shade. We didn't try out the hot tub but it looks very nice.
Entertainment and Facilities: There was great entertainment on the terrace after dinner each night. Nice place to sit and listen to the live band while sipping an after-dinner beverage (or not) or even kick up your heels.
This was followed by a show over behind the pool bar. The shows were similar to shows at other resorts. One difference was the water show in the pool. That was a very nice change from other resorts and very entertaining! A WOW! Worth the watch.
If your evening wasn't over by then, you could head over to the disco beside the Italian a la carte.
The pool side entertainment daily is very good. The hosts are very enthusiastic (chow, chow Mickey Mouse). They are very good at remembering who you are if you get involved.
The gym has the general equipment. Although the hours on the door indicate 9:00-17:00. You can enter anytime using your room key. There is a switch box on the back wall beside the ladies washroom (where there is a sauna located). This box runs the lights and the air conditioner. This is something one of the other guests showed me on my first visit. It became very helpful on mornings when I was the first to arrive.
Overall: We had a wonderful time with our friends and fantastic weather. Unfortunately we do not plan on returning to this resort or dog infested beach.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Phenomenal resort!
This is our second visit to this resort in Cuba and did a 10 day all inclusive this time. The staff are so warm and friendly, the grounds beautifully landscaped and the beach is breathtaking. The food offers many options from the crepe bar in the buffet, the snack bar with great burgers and unique yummy pizza, the beach BBQ chicken and calamari is additive and succulent lobster in the French a la carte. Oh and I can't forget the "to die for ice cream."

Melia Buenavista: Best resort in Cuba!
Everything about Melia Buenavista is exceptional. It's a smaller luxury resort that has everything covered. No extra charges at all unless you buy extra spa treatments or a few other packages but they are very clear. The food is above par for Cuba and room service is amazing. Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Fantastic vacation!
The resort was absolutely gorgeous. Grounds were beautifully maintained by very hard working gardeners. Staff was courteous and helpful, especially Lily at the Royal beach bar and Annaraes at the Royal pool bar! Rooms in the royal section were modern and very clean. Bar fridge was stocked daily. Food at the a la carte restaurants was hit and miss but the buffet had lots of options. Japanese restaurant was a blast! New beach towels were available everyday (not my past experience in Cuba). 4th trip back here and many more to come. Great resort, great beach, good snorkeling, friendly staff. Stayed on the Luna side again as it is closer to the beach and quieter, Kattie the Sunwing rep. was very helpfull, the hotel is in the process of upgrading (painting, updating etc) but doesn't cause any inconvience, the grounds are beautifull and the food keeps getting better each year, can't wait to go back !!

Paradisus Varadero: Meh
If you are looking for a breathtakingly beautiful ocean and gorgeous beach, then..This is the place!
If you are looking for anything else? Like quick service, good food, ..not the place.
The room was nice. We stayed in family concierge.
But, we were eaten alive by mosquitos.
The food was pretty bad. Thank goodness we brought our own peanut butter, granola bars and other snacks!
We basically lived off of it and bread.
The people were very friendly, but, seemed to expect tips or gifts.
We[... read more] brought many gifts like toothpaste, toothbrush, toys, books, nail polish etc..
But, it was received kind of entitled.
We waited and waited for the golf cart to pick us up meant times to take us to another part of the resort. Don't bother! Just walk.
Jamaica time? That's speedy compared to Cuba time.
Not impressed.
Will go back to DR next year.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Melia Jardines Cayo Coco
Beach is amazing, White sand, aqua water. Resort is 20 minutes from airport which is a bonus. Staff seemed very courteous, friendly. Room was clean, a few ants around toilet. Shower and water pressure great. A few problems.....bars ran out of tonic and soda water for several days. A la carte restaurants were not good the nights I was there but other nights people seemed happy, so I guess things are hit and miss. The mosquitoes on couple of days were very bad, this was end of Ap[... read more]ril and all resorts in Cayo Coco had the same problem. Grounds were lovely, pools were kind of scummy but that was after huge parties occurred. Yes I would go back with more bug spray. Always take Kleenex with you as often washrooms ran out of toilet paper. If you want to take gifts things that are welcome are toothpaste, toothbrushes, feminine hygiene products, personal grooming items.

Melia Marina Varadero: Well worth it!
A few cons but mostly pros to this resort! First off, the food was better than i expected, with many options at the buffets, and great service from the restaurant staff, always asking if you need a drink. The staff everywhere was friendly, except at the front desk at times. The 24 hour snack bar also had great food and service, with a lot of variety. The maids did a wonderful job in the rooms, and didn't miss a day during our 8 day stay. The beach is a nice 5 minute walk from the resort, which w[... read more]as a little narrow and busy, but the water is beautiful. We went to three a la carte restaurantes: Casa burgette (french) which wasnt great. The food seemed to be the same quality as the buffet food but presented a little better. Next was Don Peperoni (italian) which was excellent! We had chicken, pasta and seafood all of which were delicious. Finally, we went to Bana (Oriental) where they serve a 5 course meal if i remember correctly. All the dishes were very good except the soup, but we left a little hungry as the portions were very small. The pool is where we spent most of our time which was amazing. The bar staff was outstanding. The only other complaints I have are: the wifi has poor connection, I saw no bowling/pool as advertised in the photos, and man at the rent-a-car place made it impossible for us to rent mopeds which we really wanted to do. All in all though great hotel, and would go back!
