Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Wonderful resort

Front desk staff very helpful grounds staff very polite house keeping we couldnt of asked for anything better Now for the people that say the food in cuba is bland have not stayed at memories flemenco food was very tasteful and a wide variety. Although there were plumbing issues ,maybe people should not use 3 lbs of toilet paper and the issues will go away. But all in all we would very much recommend this resort

Melia Jardines del Rey: Great Value

This hotel was very clean & well kept. The food was decent with quite a bit of variety. The pools and beaches were beautiful and very nicely kept. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Great entertainment every night before and after supper! The running water in the rooms was a little lacking, but all in all a great resort!

Hotel Vigia: Diamond in the Rough...!!!

Stayed at Sol Cayo Guillermo from January 7-14, 2018, and had a very pleasant experience overall! BEACH was INCREDIBLE !! Bit on the windy side, but it was 27 degrees and sunny every day, so absolutely beach weather by day, and sweater weather by night. Initial impression was positive (staff, main entrance lobby, pool and bars), lots of improvements with their amenities since Irma - updated facilities and rustic/sheek design. Downside was that our original room was very far from everyth [... read more]ing and did not have working AC. They thankfully switched our rooms the following day to a lovely beach front villa with AC. From that point forward, we had an amazingly relaxing and romantic vacation! Villa was lofty and cosy with a great ocean view, and very clean. The down side of the view, is that since Irma hit, all the surrounding landscape has suffered. Less trees, and shrubs, which can make it seem a bit baron, but it will come back, and once it does, this resort will be sure to impress! Beach was huge, clean, shallow waters, with plenty of chairs and room for privacy! Played Beach Volley ball in the late afternoons, and amazing sunset strolls!!! Food was mediocre, but surpassed our expectation for Cuba, and be sure to book your a-la-carte reservations asap! Calamari and mussels/clams were our fav! We indulged in a Dolphin excursion, as our original plan to take their catamaran out for a snorkel, back-fired due to high winds ( so the hotel gifted us the Dolphin swim which was surreal) !!! We also went horse back riding on the beach which was so much fun, and equally as beautiful. Very affordable. Staff were very helpful, and always went out of their way to accommodate us! Thank you Julie ;). Entertainment staff were lovely, but they could use a different DJ in their disco ! Overall great experience with or without kids!!! We definitely recommend this resort if your looking for a more peaceful and relaxing vacation. We will be sure to return.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: An excellent all inclusive value resort

Arrival: Our sunwing flight arrived late in the night and we had the quickest check-in ever (our 6th time to Cuba). Resort map given at check-in made it easy to find the bars, our room and the 24 hr snack bar where we were able to get a quick meal at 3:00 in the morning. Previous complaints about lack of lighting seemed unfounded to us as we were able to find everything between 2 and 4 am when there was a new moon. We had no problem exchanging money (either at the bank, or at the front desk). T [... read more]he exchange rate was always the same ($40 cdn = $28 cuc... result was we didn't sweat when we changed out our money -- I liked that). Our experience with the front desk was very positive (best in our experience in Cuba), each rep had a smile and helped right away (whether it was for directions to a la cartes, breaking 10 cucs for tips or to find out how to store our luggage when we checked out). I appreciated that we were able to use all resort services after our noon check-out (including courtesy room for shower and holding towels for longer after check-out) Food: The buffet was well laid out so that the line ups for omelets, meat cooking, past bar and churro making did not disrupt the overall flow of traffic and you were able to get other foods in hot and cold buffet stations easily. Since this is a family resort, the management also set up an area at the front of the buffet for children (at kid's height) with popular food for the little ones... what a smart idea, the result was less children at the back near hot foods... it worked well. The menu at the buffet was varied, the lamb, rabbit and chicken in the steamers were so yummy, the salad bar was usually well stocked with small bowls of dressing constantly refilled (less worries about the dressing going bad) and fruits were usually plentiful (last day was a little lean). The line ups for display cooking were very manageable, so sometimes I even got fresh made food at the buffet (normally I would not wait in lines, but Flamenco's lines were not too long). We never had to wait for a table (lots of seating even though the resort was full). Buffet was not air conditioned so lunch and dinner meals were sometimes hot for us. The a la cartes were air conditioned and food and service excellent (went to Italian, Mediterranean and Cuban). Room: Best room cleaning attention we have experienced. Yareli (and her helper) were responsive (they left extra water for us upon request, and when they saw we drank some beer from the fridge one day they replaced the beer the next day with extra). The room cleaning was thorough and creative (great towel art) and they also adapted to our schedule for room cleaning. The room had excellent air conditioning but toilet had a valve issue... once we learned to jiggle the button, we had no further problems. Water pressure was excellent, temp was cooler if you showered around the busy time 5:00 - 6:00 pm, but at least not ice cold, and all other times showers were pleasantly warm. We were impressed that we never saw any ants or other bugs in the room even though we were on the ground floor. Also, although we read that there were a lot of mosquitoes/sand flies, we did not experience any problems and did not need to use bug dope. We were in block 6 which was an excellent location close to everything, but not too noisy at night. General Areas: If management is looking for a welcome addition to the resort, I suggest an ice cream parlor... it would relieve some of the ice cream line up at the buffet, and could become a fun part of your daily routine while at the resort. I was surprised that a family resort of this size did not have one. The only real complaint we had was the frequent malfunctions of public toilets. Sometimes it was impossible to find a functioning ladies toilet (got worse as the day progressed) and we had to return to our room to pee... with the location of our room this was tolerable but if you were in say, block 10, I would have been frustrated with this. It did become a problem upon check-out since we had 7.5 more hours at the resort before our bus left... we solved this by going bowling at the nearby Puebla... toilets were in great shape and their service was excellent. Beach/Pool: The beach was amazing, we walked for miles, but it was windy each day so we were not able to see if snorkelling was possible from the beach (did not look promising). We were able to select the same 6 loungers each day near the beach bar and by the end of the week the lounge chair assistant was joking with us and making sure our spots were set up (on the last day we switched our spot because there was only the two of us coming down and he came over right away to make sure we were okay with our new spot). My husband and I are not pool people, although others in our group did visit the pool swim up bar and take a dip. There seemed to be plenty of loungers available at the pool. With the pool being multi level, in some areas there was no wind (we discovered this at one point upon visiting the pool bar in mid afternoon, we had been comfortable all day at the beach because of the breeze, but suddenly realized how hot is was at the pool bar...) I guess this could have advantages if you have some cooler days at the resort (we did not -- it was 27 oC and sunny each day). Bars: The bar service was generally excellent and many servers would smile at us when we tried to order in Spanish. Special shout outs go to Mandi at the lobby bar ("oh Mandi, we came and you made us mojitos") and Pino at the sports bar (best brandy alexanders on the resort, you have to try them) and the whole crew at the snack bar who made the start to our day so easy with cappuccinos and "tres dedos ron oscuro". The lobby bar had a nice atmosphere, and the sports bar was wonderfully cool. The beach bar was well staffed, so that you did not have to wait long for a top up at the beach... when we walked past the long line ups at the other resorts along the beach we were thankful for the number of bar tenders at our beach bar. Also, with the snack bar just 100 m up the way from the beach, a stop there for lunch and another drink was easy (although I did not enjoy the snack bar food as much as the buffet). Overall Impression: There were several thoughtful touches to the resort... flowers often left in the room, sangria/cocktail table on entrance to buffet so that you could easily get a drink without burdening table servers, mimosa table set up for breakfast at the buffet, the display Spanish coffee making at the lobby bar, and the cameo dancing from the entertainers to the buffet area to let you know what was going on at the theater that night. I believe the management is doing an excellent job catering to a full crowd and it does not surprise me that there are many repeat customers.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Would not return

The hotel was sub par at best the main building/area where the buffet was had a water way that probably at one point was a water feature or looked nice but now was sewage and smelled just as that raw sewage. The wifi was $3 for an hour and only in the lobby.. we were on the third floor our toilet hardly ever worked and the first night we had a crab in our room we had to catch and get rid of. The beach was lovely but it didn’t really make up for the rest.

Hotel Playa Coco: SO SO

Buffet restaurant has limited amount of food often cold. Fruit and vegetables were very limited. Air condition was not working. It was making so much noise hard to sleep. Complain four days in row about air condition nothing happen. People in the bars and restaurants were courteous.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Amazing resort

Everything was amazing from the resort to the service and beaches. The food, rooms, drinks and staff were great. My Agent from Trip central was awesome. She helped us pick the resort and was very helpful and friendly.

Melia Cayo Coco: Good job after Irma.

It was amazing to see how far the repairs of the resort had come after hurricane Irma almost destroyed this beautiful resort. There were still areas not yet completed when we arrived at the end of January. One al a carte restaurant, the entertainment area and a number of rooms both regular and on the lagoon were being worked on. The grounds of the resort once lush and green was ravished, large palm trees were gone as well as there was a scrub area that once was green vegetation. The gardeners we [... read more]re working hard to repair damage to the grounds. With the improvements a number of changes were made. All new furniture for the lobby. restaurants and bars as well as improvements to lobby, buffet and pool bar. The beach was still beautiful unfortunately it was very windy the 10 days we were there. The food was great as usual as well as the staff were friendly and fun. Entertainment was held in the lobby area. The resort had Wi Fi which could be accessed in your room for a peso per hour. This was a great surprize. We did have a good time at the Melia Cayo Coco in spite of the weather. Thankfully our friends we made from previous visits were safe and well. Kudos Cuba on the great recovery after Irma. Not as happy with Trip Central, Sunwing and Toronto airport. Sunwing made changes in our flight times which were changed from a convenient afternoon time to an early morning flight a month before we were to leave. Trip Central's communication around the why behind the change as well as they were not able to obtain any compensation from Sunwing on our behalf. The luggage retrieval once in Toronto airport took over 45 minutes.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Good and bad

Resort was beautiful and to our expectations; however we did not have hot water for 3 days. We did get upgraded to another room but it didn’t change the fact that we got the run around for 3 days saying hot water would be available “tomorrow”. Only to find out that the hotel had burst pipe.

Melia Cayo Coco: Very nice resort

We really like the hotel....we had stayed at the Melia twice before in Cayo Santa Maria and thought it was better but were newer. We would stay again at the Melia if we ever go back to Cayo Coco. They really need to figure out a way to stop people from tying up lawn carts and umbrellas all day by putting towels down very early in the morning and only using it minimally throughout the day. Very annoying to have to compete with this every day of a vacation.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: A very beautiful beach....

The resort was very beautiful and the staff were very friendly. The gardens were amazing and our room was recently redone and very clean with a new bed. However, our ground floor room was very moldy smelling, a common complaint heard among those of us in ground floor rooms. This could be a potential issue if you have allergy/asthma issues. The food was very blah...the buffet was the same thing everyday. However the Cuban meal and a dinner on the beach were lovely. We did enjoy the pizza on the b [... read more]each and the odd burger at the snack bar. Always seats available at the pool and beach. We enjoyed the walks on the beach daily....sand and beautiful blue ocean as far as you could see! If we return again I would request a second level room (they apparently were much less moldy smelling) and maybe bring some spices from home to zip up our meals :)

Melia Jardines del Rey: Amazing resort!

This hotel is great. The ocean and the beach are awesome...We walked and walked. Met a lot of french people. The Cubans are amazing people...We had brought clothes and toys and the smallest thing you give them is like a million bucks.... The only drawback is the long wait in line-ups for meals. There were 2100 people last week on the resort. So, needless to say, line-ups were long and some people are obnoxious and don't like to wait... But, overall, we are very satisfied and will definite [... read more]ly be going back. We made good friends and want to see them again.

Melia Jardines del Rey: A resort making improvements

The resort was good. The food was not great even for Cuba. The other Melias have way better food and options. The pools were great. There were enough huts at the ocean for everyone but you needed to get chairs by 9:30am. They are making more improvements to expand the beach amenities. A bar was being built during the week we were there. It should be operational now as the grills and water were in when we left. O am not sure I would go back to this resort. I would stay at other Melias though.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Tryp with tripcentral

Had a wonderful one week stay at the Tryp in February 2018. Had an issue with non-functional electrical outlets in the room but that was dealt with quickly with a temporary fix for the first night and a proper repair the next day. Rooms were clean. Food was good. Staff were very helpful and friendly. There was construction happening as they were still recuperating after the big storm last fall. There were several blocks of rooms still under renovations so the resort was not completely operat [... read more]ing at full capacity. I'm guessing that's why there was only one a la carte restaurant open? FYI, it was very breezy so we didn't get much chance to enjoy the beach. That breeze was a bit cool in the evening so I was very happy that I had packed a warm sweater. Overall, a lovely vacation but compared to my daughter's review from her stay here last year, I feel that we may have been short -changed as a result of that nasty storm last fall.

Melia Cayo Coco: Great relaxing time

Food - great! Some repetition at the buffet, but lots to choose from. A la carte restaurants were also well above our expectations. We recommend them. Staff - excellent - friendly - when our safe stopped working in the room, they had it fixed within 15 minutes Beach - very windy - we stayed by the pool Grounds - gardeners are working to plant new bushes, flowers, and palm trees. The destruction from hurricane Irma is still very evident. We would return to this resort. Just know  [... read more]it's for an older crowd - they had a disco but no one was in it. Considering that it is Cuba,I give this resort a 5 star (4 star when compared to Mexican resorts)

Hotel Vigia: Good resort

The grounds around the rooms were a little barren probably because of the hurricane in 2017 but was still decent. The rooms were nice but the housekeeping was non existent after day 3 of 7. The beach was very nice but there were a lot of small shells in the sand. Water was amazing and had very little seaweed. The food was decent but didn't have much variety. Omelettes in the morning and crepes were both good. Staff were very friendly and the entertainment crew was very involved and energetic. Th [... read more]e night time shows were good. 1 out of 2 a la carte restaurants were amazing (don guillermo) and the other lacked in service and variety. They kind of lacked in mixes for drinks like anything slush wasn't available. Coffee was good though. It had a nice lobby and decent pool area. Not a big resort so getting around wasn't hard. I would give it a 6.5 out of 10. I paid 769 dollars and am glad I paid no more than that as I don't think it would worth more than $800 for a week.

Melia Cayo Coco: Walkways require improvement

Although I understand the effects of the recent hurricane on the buildings and vegetation and trees there are some areas that require improvement and should be repaired or replaced right away because they are dangerous. I am referring to the sidewalks/patios. The concrete sidewalks and patios are crumbling. Some sidewalks are built with older pieces of concrete which can easily be tripped over. The wooden sidewalk around the pool has loose slats and the support beneath the slats is deteriora [... read more]ting. It is dangerous to walk on. Considering that most of your guests are senior citizens these areas are very dangerous.

Melia Cayo Coco: Hurricane Comeback!

Melia Cayo Coco is a gem of an adults only resort, with good food, great beaches and wonderful staff. Although this was our first visit, many we met have been coming back for years. The staff is working very hard to restore the grounds to their pre-hurricane beauty. They are doing more than that, they are upgrading as they go. The pool was busy all day. Hotel Playa Coco: Incredible beach.

I had heard from many that you don't go to Cuba for the food and they were correct. This stated I will say that the breakfasts were always amazing and the Japanese and Italian restaurants were ok. Lunch at the beach bar is a must with some great barbecued chicken and ribs. The room was very nice however hot water was not always available. Hotel Playa Coco: Simple and Lovely!

The hotel exceeded my expectations! I have been to Cuba 4 other times and this hotel was the cleanest, the rooms the most modern and the beach the nicest. Staff are friendly and helpful, food is typical Cuba-- this hotel is wonderful.size-- big enough to have a couple a la carte's and multiple pools, but small enough that it feels homey. Would highly recommends!
