Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Not a luxury, not 5 stars ...I wouldn't recommend it, I think you can do better in this price range
Just came back from our holiday .... I start with the positive notes, excellent service at all restaurants, good guest service, good job on cleaning. We enjoyed our food at the buffet and la carte restaurants. Booking la carte was very easy. However, hotel rooms are in serious need for update. The room condition doesn't correspond with five star rating, I would give it 3 stars at the best. We had the most uncomfortable matrass we have ever slept on during our entire life. Matrass and bedding qu[... read more]ality was obviously not in line with the hotel rating. We spoke with many guests and have heard many complains towards the same matrass problem. The washroom needs update too, it was very outdated. Ridiculous problem with shortage of beach towels. I find it rather strange when 5 star hotel post a sign "One beach towel per day" , simple and easy to fix solution, buy more towels. Imagine on a rainy day when we cover ourselves from rain with a towel and had it totally wet, we were refused towel exchange based on the hotel one towel per day policy! Beach disappointed us too. For us beach is main attraction for Dominican holiday ... Not only water was very murky, it has a color of a swamp. Moreover, there is bee or wasp ( I am not sure I could distinguished these insects) infestation at the hotel beach and to our surprise hotel management does nothing to manage the situation. For people who are allergic to these insects, please be warned. On top of that loud music from the pool where party never stops was really annoying. Practically no equipment to enjoy water sports, 1 catamaran for 2 big hotels, second one was broken, we hadn't have a chance to book it once. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this hotel and won't be back to it. If you already bought a trip, try to make the best out of it. There is another beach 300 meters away from the hotel, we spent all our days there. Much cleaner ocean over there but you have to bring your water or other drinks with you, no service there. I should mention that perhaps water in the ocean next to the hotel is clean, but the color of it makes it unattractive. Some people were writing that water stinks, I haven't felt it. I must admit that I ended up at this location by accident, just booked a wrong Bachia hotel on line. It was not my place, but I would like to thank all service team again for good service. Overall we tried to make the best out of this experience. We took a trip to Saona Island and didn't enjoy it either. It was badly organized, too much loud music and too many drunk half naked tourists really spoiled this experience for us. Again it might be different experience for you.

Tropical Deluxe Princess: Amazing resort
Our family of 4 (2 adults, 11 year old and 16 year old ) spent one week at the Tropical Deluxe Princess for March Break. We had an amazing week! We highly recommend this resort to anyone travelling as a family. The resort is newly renovated and super clean. The staff are always cleaning. The beach was incredible....plenty of lounge chairs, volleyball, soccer and seaweed was not an issue when we were there. The sand was amazing and no sand flies. The a La Carte dinners can be booked every night ([... read more]there is no limit) and they were delicious. The buffet had many options available and was good. The staff at the resort are the best!!!!! Always so helpful, happy and really nice people. A huge shout out to the best animation team. A special thanks to Julio and Adonis - we always had fun at the beach and pool activities. Big round of applause to all of you on the team. We will definitely return to this resort again.

Playabachata Hotel: Not for us. We won’t return.
The rooms we had were near a street and we heard motorcycles all night long. The balcony door wouldn’t close all the way. We didn’t get much sleep. Lots of ants in the bathroom. Pillows were very lumpy. Pics of the rooms on the website are nothing like the ones we had.
Food wasn’t bad. A lot of the same thing every day. There was one beach lunch paella that was delicious. Loved the omelet station.
Beach was nice. Some broken chairs but we didn’t have too much trouble finding somethin[... read more]g to lay on. I didn’t expect it to be so windy every day.
Most of the staff were nice. You do get what you pay for and this was no 5 star hotel. We knew it wouldn’t be exceptional. Best part about the resort was the resort doctor, Dr. Carlos.

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Beautiful resort
The grounds were beautifully kept. All the common areas were clean and well maintained.
Food was excellent with a wide variety and plentiful.
Staff was very friendly.
We were coerced into a "welcome breakfast" where we were forced to listen to the "benefits" of being a Privileged Member and to belong to the Catalonia brand of resorts. It was a waste of a beautiful morning and very very annoying.
The internet did not work in our room but it was tended to within the hour of us reportin[... read more]g it. It was fixed the next day.
The beach was clean and there were lots of shaded spots to stay out of the direct sun. We always found chairs so no need to try to save a seat. Around the pool was different. No chairs to be had in the shade. Lots of "reserved by towel" chairs.
The room was clean but well worn so could use some updating. Too few outlets, some of which were linked to the switches. We had a leak in the ceiling but again, it was tended to within the hour of us reporting it and it was immediately fixed. There was mold on the curtains and my pillow as stained yellow beneath the pillowcase. The appearance of our room was the most disappointing part of our stay.

Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana: Great Resort!
I went to Jewel Punta Cana in early April and I have a quick summary of the resort below:
The bus ride from the airport was about 45 minutes. The resort didn't feel full, I think it was under capacity so it was very relaxing and chill.
The buffet is repetitive at lunch and breakfast (but I eat repetitive at home) but the food was great! For lunch you could also get food off the grill by the pool bar and there was a outdoor pizza oven that was great as well.
For dinner, only the a la carte[... read more]s were open when I went and I enjoyed all 3 restaurants. First time I have been able to order a steak in Punta Cana and they cooked it properly to my request.
The beach did have sargassum some days but I could easily walk over it. The water was warm, I was expecting it to be more rough than Bavaro beach but I found it the same or less rough. The ocean is rough first thing in the morning but by 9am it was much calmer. It was much quieter than Bavaro beach there were some vendors but they were not pushy. The pool is large but narrow, more of a relax and float pool until you get to the swim up bar.
I found the staff very friendly and the service was excellent.
The rooms were a little dated but it didn't matter to me as I didn't spend much time inside.

El Beso Adults Only at Ocean El Faro: 5 Plus except for the beach
This resort was amazing. The food the service was excellent. We enjoyed the Brazilian restaurant the most. The only negative would be the beach. Not a typical Dominican beach. A lot of rocky areas . There is a small cove next to the resort that was calm and sandy. It is a vacant property that most people used but you were not allowed to bring your chairs. Other than the beach this resort deserves the 5 star rating.
Thanks to our agent Kevin Dupuis for helping us set this up

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: great resort for price
it was very clean ( hotel room floor, hallways, pool deck and dining floors ) and the staff were friendly
the food was excellent both in dining buffet and the three restaurants booked al la carte. excellent service at all. the price we paid was good for a four star resort - not five star or posh but clean and friendly.
what was not so good and keeps it at a 3 or 4 star resort ….
internet was spotty on pool deck ( where we spent majority of days )
the paint chips in lawn chairs in libby[... read more] of our our building and wioden doors on furniture snd closets aew very worn and the pool floor was chipping away ( daily picked up clusters of cement after stepping on them). the group from royal caribbean cruise ship on saturday took over pool bar and were loud and gross as one girl took rop off and danced - not what we wanted or young kids wanted to experience. but we understand its revenue for resort to offer excursions to cruisers.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Average resort
Resort is part of lifestyle group and location is nice however rooms and amenities are old and substandard, there was no hot water. Also being on a hill it could be a problem for seniors and disabled people walking up and down the steps. there is a shuttle available from 6 am to 11 pm. I did like their gym facilities.
Worse thing I found was they wanted $21 US for safety deposit box/locker in the room, it should be part of all inclusive, also internet was limited to an hour a day which I did n[... read more]ot care but some people may have to pay for internet use over an hour.
Beach was not as good, very filthy and it get deep very quickly, need to be careful with kids.

Sunscape Coco Punta Cana: AVOID AT ALL COST
I had read the reviews and it's truly worst than what I had read online. I went first week of April 2023.
This is a 2.5 stars, not a 5 stars. When I told them that they said it was a 5 star and it's my opinion. I paid 1650$ and it was worth 800$ MAX.
The place is falling apart- not at all as the picture. If you are not in the adult only section you cannot go to most of the pictures advertised, they will treat you like a second class citizen and you only have one buffet to eat breakfast, lun[... read more]ch and dinner. Staff only serves you when/if you tip, they sometimes dont even serve you coffee or pick up your plates.
BEACH:
So the pros is that the sea is nice. But there's NOT enough chairs. If you love being harassed this is the place for you. Literally 20-30 people will come up to you within a day and NOT leave, you will have to interact with them because they are very persistent. They are selling stuff, but mostly are drug dealers trying to sell weed or cocaine. I don't do any of that so it was very upsetting to constantly being asked for this. I'm a woman, when I put sunscreen they literally sit in front of me and compliment me, they refuse to leave. There's one guard with a dog pretending to be security, but he chills with the drug dealers so not sure what that's about. The life guard NEVER look towards the water, always on their phone and chilling with locals. Overall, its exhausting and frankly so so soo unacceptable.
POOLS:
Everyone pees in the pool, its slimy and visually dirty. There's not enough chairs literally less than 50 for the pools for hundred of people. People wake up as early as 5am to go reserve them by placing a towel and proceed to go about their day. The chairs are mostly broken. Its just disgusting, so I would go to the beach, but then would get harassed and come back to the pool.
ROOM:
The room is moldy, things are broken. No safe, No place to store your clothes I had to leave it all in my suitcase. Its humid and all my clothes still smell like mildew. The housekeepers are the nicest ladies of the resort, they truly do the best with what they got. But there's literally shit on the walls in the hotel hallways, water on the floor everywhere. There's not even a holder for the soap, there's rust everywhere it's really reallly messed up not gonna lie.
ACTIVITIES:
Nothing is fun, they play the same 5 songs on repeat for the whole week, everyday it's the same thing. Overall, the most boring place I've been and ive been to Punta Cana before, Cuba several times, Mexico a few times, Hawaii a few times and Jamaice. This was the absolute worst hotel ive ever been in my life.
STAFF:
The front desk staff would literally talk shit about me in front of me, the most disrespectful people I have met. They didn't know I spoke spanish. They are the least helpful, they just redirect you elsewhere, and when you go see the others, they redirect you to the front desk, basically no one ever helps you. The staff in restaurant and bars, some were very nice, some were very bad. The bad ones would just not serve you, not give coffee even when u ask. I would ask them to come and they would stay far away and scream what ? They wouldn't pick up the empty plates, wouldnt smile ever. It was just a really bad experience that makes u feel like shit all the time.
FOOD:
The food tasted good, the only reason why i survived this none sense. But it was advertised as thought theres lots of bars and lots of buffer - That's a lie. One buffet, most bar you cant go if u arent VIP (the nice ones that u see in the pictures), the a-la-carte restaurants were good, you are allowed to 3 in one week. Just the food was good, that's the only thing positive i have to say.
Basically, avoid at all cost. i wouldnt go back even if they paid me, the way they make you feel and being constantly harassed isnt worth it. And the place is falling apart because they are closing the hotel soon and another hotel will open. So don't go.

Ocean El Faro: Very large resort !
Grounds were very well maintained, room was nice, drinks were good, food average. Loved the lazy river. Was very surprised how busy the resort was and how many kids, the “quiet†preferred pool was full of kids playing, throwing balls etc could not relax in pool. Beach area was nice view but beach not walkable or able to swim in ocean. Service was slow. Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Resort: Great family resort
The grounds were kept in great shape. The hotel staff very pleasant and felt safe during my stay. The food was quite good. I was nervous around reviews of certain rooms but made myself quite clear upon arrival that I expected a decent room and did. Lack of lounge chairs problematic. As a smoker couldn't stand you were only allowed to sit in a very small area in lobby. I would t recommend this resort for those that want quiet. Way too many children. However fantastic place for those that do. Att[... read more]ention needs to be placed on some of the activities for safety reasons. Covid rules non existent which is the norm for now.

An older
Resort with many upgrades in rooms and public areas. The dining experience was terrific - My daughter has a severe Gluten allergy, and she had no issues with anything she ate; the serving staff were very friendly and knowledgeable when it came to explaining which foods she could and could not eat - plenty of variety too. Good fun at the pool(s), beach with decent entertainment.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Great resort
This resort has many positive notes:
Airport transfer was easy
Grounds and rooms were great
Food was hit and miss, while there was the usual buffet for breakfast and lunch the food teperature was below where it should have been and was borderline cold
