Memories Jibacoa: Great resort and great staff

I thought the resort was nice. Its been around for a while but the rooms were nice, clean and bed was comfortable. I liked that it was an adult only resort and it was not huge so there weren't thousands of people. It was my first trip to Cuba and prior to going everyone told me the food in Cuba sucks so I had zero expectations for the food. I found the food was quite good, there was lots of variety including fresh fruit and seafood. I thought the beach area was nice as well. The only qualm I had was that the water in the pool was cold. Once you got in and moved around it wasn't so bad, but I asked other people that have been to other resorts and they commented that the water cold as well.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Great Resort

If you like small resorts, this one was very nice and clean. Staff was always friendly and food was great. A La Carte's every night, no reservations, you can keep going to the ones you prefer. Mine was the Italian, although the Steak house was very good also. Beach is not the best, lots of rocks and can't go far, gets deep fast. It was great to go in town, lots of vendors and lots of stores to shop at. First time went with a tour guide, second trip, went by ourselves with a bunch of friends!

Memories Jibacoa: Quite, pretty, beach resort

Small, quite location right on the beach. Clean rooms. A great place for retired travellers who don't want to party. Also great for those who want to lose weight. Food wasn't great! My husband was sick for 5 days out of 7. Most that I spoke with there, were sick as well. Main topic at the resort was, the condition of their bowels!

Hotel Bella Costa: Lovely beach

The hotel has a number of issues typical of some of the older hotels in varadero and the food leaves much to be desired, but the space is great, the beach is amazing and the staff are helpful. If you have the stomach to deal with Cuban buffets and don't mind the odd leaky roof here and there, this Hotel will provide you a great starting point for a Cuban vacation. Explore the peninsula and visit Havana for a more complete experience. Vinales is supposed to be well worth the trip. Jewel Runaway Bay Resort: Perfect family vacation

This resort was everything I wanted in our vacation. The staff were all amazing, food was delicious, pools were great and the waterpark was perfect. The resort is a perfect size so that my daughters could go off on their own to the tween club and easily find us even if we had changed pools. it rained 80% of our time there but it didn't make a difference. We sat in the cabanas or by the bar while the kids played in the tween club, pool or waterpark. They never complained until it was time to go.  [... read more]They want to stay for 3 weeks next time. The staff really made the difference here. We felt well taken care of and safe at all times. Can't wait to go back to the Jewel at Runaway Bay!

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Good

The people were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. The food was amazing, with plenty of restaurant to go around and no reservations. Small beach but beautiful. The rooms are something else, clean but service was horrible to say the least. They would take their tip but not leave towels or soaps

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Great holiday at Sunscape Resort Curacao

Just had a great one week all inclusive vacation at Sunscape. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Washrooms adequate for the amount of time we spent in the rooms, however an update could be in order. We had a ground floor suite so the Garden View patio came in useful several times. It had a slight view to the ocean. Food - lots to choose from and easy to get into restaurants. Lots of bars with friendly staff. Beach and pools were great with lots of areas to lounge for everyone. Beach was always  [... read more]clean. Only problem was the room was next to the staff lounge, so we lost a little sleep from some of the noise they would make late evening and early morning. There was always a gentle breeze at the resort so mosquitos didn't seem to be a huge issue.

Memories Jibacoa: Outstanding & relaxing experience!

The wife and I found this resort to be absolutely beautiful. Incredible scenery of the surrounding hillsides and the gorgeous reef just off the beach - water shoes are a must for those going into the water and bring a snorkel to see the fish & reef. As the reviews all say, the plastic cups from the bar are very tiny which is why we brought large thermoses. The beer was fantastic, and because so, it was all I cared to drink. ;) The wife would ask bartenders to make her a random fruity drink until she eventually found the perfect combination, and she would return strictly to that bar and bartender because she said he made it just right! Lol One time he wasn't there so she had to attempt to explain what the drink combination was, but she wasn't sure so it turned out different. The next time he returned she asked him what magic combination he was putting into the drink just in case he wasn't around again. ;) Our ground floor room was just off the pool and we would conveniently walk back and forth from pool to room via the patio door. The day we decided to hike up the mountain the tour was cancelled due to a bit of rain from the previous night, but we made our own choice to risk it and venture up the very slippery slope. The view was worth the risk and effort! Seeing the resort and ocean was something out of a postcard. Unbelievable view. It was so amazing we took a hike up the mountain 2 days later, guiding another couple. :) The reviews talked about a beach BBQ so I half expected to see a grill setup on the beach where you grab a fish and go. But it turned out to be an amazing outdoor covered restaurant with great unbelievable food! Every lunch we ate here and both ordered a fish each and every time. Overall fantastic experience and we will definitely return! Only true complaint we had was that we waited 5 hours for our room on the first day. We knew our poolside room wasn't going to be ready immediately as we arrived - which the online brochure had informed us. But with only 1 hour of sleep that night prior to arrival we we started passing out in the lobby. If they had a better estimate of when the room was going to be tended, it would have dramatically improved our first day. The initial 2 hour estimate eventually became a full 5 hours, with a constant reply of "come back in an hour" or "come back in 30 min". If we would have known this then, we would have changed into swim suits and slept & relaxed at the pool chairs. Also don't expect "local" cigar prices if you take the resort offered tour into Havana. The cigar shop they drive you to in Havana was charging well over double as they were charging at the resort's cigar shop. Definitely the "tourist" prices with $7.50 for a single cigar! I was very disappointed. The tour guide was the one behind the counter dictating prices to the group, not the actual cigar shop worker/owner - so you're well aware that the guide and resorts have their hands in the pie as they significantly overcharge. Other than that disappointment the tour itself was very enjoyable and they take you to a nice restaurant and the marketplace. If my wife hadn't wanted to take the bus tour, I would have preferred to have taken a taxi into the city where you're free to browse and sightsee as long as you'd like.

Hotel Bella Costa: Bella Costa Hotel Varadero Cuba

While this hotel is in need of some maintenance TLC the overall experience was great! It was clean and anything asked for was accommodated. The food was good with many dining choices. Every evening there was superb free entertainment at the hotel (rain or shine). As there are many stairs at the resort it is not very accessible for anyone with a disability.

Hotel Bella Costa: Wonderful resort,

We had a great experience at the hotel. The buffet meals were excellent, lots of selection. The hotel is showing its age, but the character of the hotel and the location of the hotel more than makes up for any shortcomings.

Memories Jibacoa: Clean and tidy

Grounds , rooms, public areas were all satisfactory. Would like to have had better wi-fi connection or even an English weather channel on TV. Very poor wi-fi and television reception. A site map of the resort handed out upon arrival would be helpful.

Hotel Bella Costa: we would go again

The resort is a nice size to get around and has all the features we would have expected. The staff were well organized and it was clear that there was good management running this resort. We found the food better than expected. The down side was when we arrived we had to change rooms because of no power or air conditioning in the first room. They did upgrade us and put us in a room with a balcony though and we were pleased with that room.

Memories Jibacoa: Beautiful, quiet, relaxing - off the beaten path

Wonderful property away from the major centers in Cuba. The staff are excellent, the grounds immaculate and rooms clean. The food is better than average for Cuba, but the staff make this resort special. Come here if you want a relaxing holiday with a more mature crowd. Do not come here if you are looking for the Varadero crowd. Is it an aging resort - the beds are getting old, the bathrooms need updating, but the staff is responsive and helpful and it was always clean and perfectly maintained. T [... read more]here is an amazing coral reef just off shore - incredible! I would not hesitate to return. It is very well run.

Hotel Bella Costa: fun place to holiday at

Grounds ,rooms, and public areas kept clean. good affordable family hotel,could do with some updating in some areas, Staff very friendly and helpful. Great value for your buck. Beach and ocean absolutely beautiful.

Sunscape Curacao Resort: Awesome views. Amazing beach.

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was decent. Rooms were larger than usual and most have an ocean view due to the layout (awesome!). Loved Curacao. Entertainment was also better than usual for the Caribbean. If you get a chance to see the beach night/fire show that was amazing.

Hotel Los Cactus: Beautiful Resort

The resort was nice not to big, the grounds were kept and the staff are wonderful they try to do everything they can for you. The garden view suites were huge with two rooms and they were very clean. The beach is absolutely amazing with white powdery sand and NO seaweed. The whole resort is dated a little paint would go a long way. The only thing I can fault is the food it was repetitive and just not good. Memories Jibacoa: Great trip

This was our second time to this resort and loved it just as much or more than the first time. We arrived on my birthday and when I mentioned to this to our waitress at the buffet I suddenly had champagne and a birthday treat to celebrate which was a really nice touch. We met Julie on the first day and she was just as accessible and friendly as all the reviews have said. We thoroughly enjoyed the piano bar every night after dinner, the spanish coffees are amazing. The staff at this resort are am [... read more]azing and were always helpful. The wine was a little better this time which is good because the first time the red wine was really not very good. My only complaint was the smell we would get from the bathroom sometimes in building 1, if you can look past these little things this resort will not disappoint.

Hotel Los Cactus: Beautiful people

Large, spacious condo type accommodations. Staff is amazing, so kind and helpful. Very clean, food was good. Location to beach only steps away, nice chaise lounges and sand groomed daily. Only drawback was that the hot tubs were not hot.

Hotel Bella Costa: Good People

Most of the staff were great. Food was above average, lots of variety and fresh. Resort needs some updating: paint, leaking roof, more seating in the lobby area and new cushions on the existing chairs. A big upgrade would be king size sheets..

Hotel Los Cactus: Not what I expected

Upon arriving to hotel we did not receive a warm welcome from front desk. We had friends meet us there and had been to their room. Informed us there were no coffee machine in room and beds were extremely hard, informed us to request a bed topper and a coffee machine. After 14 days we never receive the bed topper, coffee machine we were given didn't work. The room was clean, ocean view, the patio door was damaged with a piece of plywood in the glass section of door, by first week we had to call t [... read more]o have door fixed as it would not slide, a gentleman came up and put a silicone on but it really didn't work. We had a wonderful housekeeper, her name was Gloria. She spoke wonderful English, great personality and did a fantastic job. Every morning would go to buffet and stop and bar outside to get hot water and milk for team, depending who was working you could stand there for sometime to be waited on. But if Damarys was working always got a smile and quick service, buffet was awful with birds flying around and feeding off p,ages on tables or getting into dessert table or salad bar. I found that very disturbing.the food from week to week was repetitive. You could find something to eat but was usually cold. We ate lots of pasta as it was heated for you on the stop.cold cuts and cheese was left out not kept cool. Breads and buns were great. The beach was nice, but the weather was awful so we only walked it a few times. The bar by the gym was quiet and met some nice people and the bartender was exceptional. We did the Italian ala caret the most and the food and service was good. I know I sound like I am complaint but we travel every spring and this trip was my worst. Thank goodness our travel friends were there to help us through our two week stay.
