Ineresting resort

The resort was huge, staff for the most part were friendly. The food was acceptable. Made new friends. Rooms were clean and the washrooms through out the resort were clean. Had a great experience with the release of baby turtles, lucky to be there for this. Will probably go back to this resort All the pools on the resort were cold

Very clean and relaxed atmosphere

Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The grounds were nicely laid out. The pools were always cleaned and had great shapes. The beach and pool area always had room to lie down. The air conditioner always kept the clean room comfortable. Always good choice of food and the desserts looked and tasted great!

First Time at this resort

We really enjoyed the resort, we stayed ground floor in Blk 5 with the pool feet away from our patio door and steps away from the morning/lunch buffet (which turned into 2 evening a la cartes/and bar....very convenient :) we went to one show and we very entertained. There are 2 wifi zone but with the size of the resort they could use a couple more, but it is Mexico so we were pleased to even have 2

Great family friendly resort!

Long story short - this resort is definitely family friendly (lots of families with kids), very safe and very good location. There are 6 blocks on the resort. We stayed in block 6, very quiet, new, and bigger pools. I'd say this is the most family friendly block. Food was great. Would highly recommend to young families.

Solid Resort

You get what you pay for. Food is very good, beach is excellent, rooms are older but in good shape and maintained. The service from the staff in bars, restaurants and housekeeping is excellent. Could use more internet locations.

Wonderful resort

The food selection and quality were great. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The grounds were kept immaculate day and night. The rooms were clean and comfortable. There were also lots of activities available right onsite.

Good family resort

Colourful, and very clean. November, many local people which made meals being catered to Mexican, but salad bar was amazing. Booking specialty restaurants a nightmare..had to be done at 7:00 A.M. only for two consecutive nights, so if staying longer than a week meant going often in order to book a table..then not even a guarantee you were able to get one. Overall good value. Family pool Area noisy, evening shows were amazing.

Colors and friendly staff!

Airport arrival and departure were quick and very well handled, reception and getting your room upon arrival to the grounds was done quite fast despite the many people arriving at the same time. The grounds are kept spotless clean, the staff is super friendly and helpful, take your time communicating, they will bend over backwards to help. Many interes [... read more]ting vases and other features giving all sort of shapes and colors to add to the overall feel of the hotel, perfectly complimenting the wonderfully and equally colorful gardens. It is very easy to find one's way around the complex. The food, while alright was a little repetitive even after a few nights, rooms are basic, a little worn looking, the bed was comfortable, but who spends much time in the room anyhow. Hot water available most of the time. We felt very safe around the villa, never got any bad vibes. The system for reserving the a la cartes is annoying and rather poorly thought out. especially for late risers, fortunately we are up early, even at six AM people are lined up to wait for the seven AM opening to reserve, and you can only reserve for 2 a la cartes at a time. We did the Italian Piccolo which was very nice, enclosed and air conditioned. Try the octopus appetizer! It is great! We also did the Radizzo (Spelling?) which is the Brazillian, if you are a meatatarian then this is most certainly for you. Various meats are brought out to you, table by table, on long skewers by the cooks. There is chicken for the non-red meat eaters I am happy to say. There are many pools to choose from, some adult only. There are many bars to choose from too. Thursday nights are usually Mexican theme nights, so all except one restaurant serves only Mexican style food. Obviously this was spot on. The guacamole in any afternoon or evening buffet was superb! Regardless the only things that kept us from giving this five stars was the lack of real daily variety (let us see some shrimp and other seafood such as smoked salmon (lobster too??!!) on the buffet trays every now and then like we had at a 4-star in Cuba we frequent, and also some healthy desserts on the lunch and dinner buffets such as fruit, you are pretty much limited to sugary cakes and cookies which can sit pretty heavy in the stomachs of some people. Safes are small, must be rented, and there are no fridges in the room. Small niggling things yes, and not really enough to keep us from saying this hotel gives you a lot of bang for the buck! For the colors and warmth in many ways more then one this place gives, we would come back to it but we will probably try something else next year, there are so many other places to see in the world.

Sadly disapointed!

We have been to the Royal Decameron four times now. This last time there was a noticeable difference in the facility itself and the way things were done. Number one the paint colours had changed and not for the better. It was like the owners were trying to dull down the appearance. We also noticed that the grounds, pools and pool areas weren't as well kept. There was a huge change over in the staff, which included the managers. The old managers used to patrol the various areas of the hotel and y [... read more]ou could tell who they were by the colours of their uniforms, they wore red shirts. The old managers also used to join in on Mexican night, on Thursdays, by dressing up in traditional Mexican attire and dance with the staff throughout the restaurant area. I as a manager, I thought that was very professional of them as it shows that they are not better than any other staff and that they are not willing to make staff do something that they are not willing to do themselves. The staff seemed like they were on lock down, not as outgoing and friendly as they used to be. Also we noticed that instead of two cleaning staff for your rooms, there is only now one for the level. The only good thing that I can think to say is that the food was better. There were less choices, but much better choices. Over all I think we are done with the Royal Decameron in Bucerias...time for a change.

Worth the money in low season

Overall okay resort but noisy and busy, specially at night. Don't lose your hotel bracelet or you'll pay a $50 fine. Food and bar are descent. Night shows are generally entertaining. Bring shampoo or you'll have to purchase one.

Very good

Rooms were clean grounds clean food good staff very friendly.. We had a good relaxing time short walk into town to Mexican market not over selling you very friendly. We would go back.good deal for the price.

Great staff and good food

The hotel was very nicely kept but it was so spread out that it was almost inconvenient. The staff were amazing helping out with whatever they could and always smiling. The food throughout the different restaurants was good and the drinks were cold.

Lively and fun!

This is my third time to Decameron in Nuevo Vallarta in the past 13 years. It doesn't claim to be a five-star resort, but to me, that's what gives it its character. The resort is very clean, the grounds are impeccably maintained, the staff are beyond friendly... they really seem to love working there, and the whole vibe of the resort is welcoming and fun, rather than five-star stuffy. The rooms are a little dated and some are in need of minor repairs, but nothing that bothered me. How much time will you spend in your room anyway? We only slept there... too much to do elsewhere! The ocean was just steps from our ground-floor room, so we had some fabulous, dramatic night-time lightening storms over the waves, only to have the sun shine brightly the next day. Such a beautiful place. Take the effort to "escape" too... a short walk to the main highway and you can catch a cab, or if you're adventurous, go for public transportation for a fraction of the cost and loads more fun and head into town. The people there are gracious and hospitable. Love Mexico! Decameron is perfectly located.

Very Disappointing

I had read the negative reviews but I decided to not pay much attention to them as I have stayed at lovely places with negative reviews. I went very optimistically and was very disappointed. The food was very basic. Every pastry had a weird 'background' taste. So much sweet sauces and really not very healthy. Salads were tired, food was not kept cold enough to look and stay fresh. Just a seated meal where buffet food was brought to you with only a 5 dish option! The Thai one was quite funny. Ordered a Pad Thai which I thought shouldn't be too hard for them to make..menu said rice noodles. It was just packet pasta with a white sauce and a few peanuts! Was more italian and certainly NOT Thai! My daughter and I both had 2 very long days and nights where we were very ill from suspected food poisoning. There were flies in the buffet section and people were handling the food and kids were touching and breathing on it too. We have travelled extensively through Malaysia and Indonesia and Thailand and have never been so sick as we were at this resort. In other places I have eaten street food from tiny carts - there was something wrong here at this resort for us to be so ill. I did observe the bar staff rinsing the blenders in tap water when preparing drinks so was suspicious about that too. The beds and pillows were hard and uncomfortable. Our room was a very long way from the main areas and there was no information in our room about the activities on offer in the resort. There was no free shuttle bus to town. Had to buy a tour for $69USD if you wanted the shuttle. My daughter who is not yet 18 had a children's wrist band so she wasn't allowed in the adult pool or gym. She is an older, very quiet, mature teen who was alway accompanied by me. The other pools were full of screaming noisy kids and the adult pool was empty. We went in for a quiet swim and were told rudely to get out! The pools close while it is still light and hot. -at 6pm. Too may stupid rules -felt like we were in a concentration camp at times and we just wanted to go home. Pool water was too hot for me as the pools are shallow but that is a personal preference. Internet was only in public lobby and there were not many places to sit. They had 80s music throughout the resort for the entire week - THE SAME PLAYLIST@ I would hear the same songs 6+times a day - and could predict what was next - DROVE us crazy! Would have loved some live mexican music at some stage at dinner. I guess I expected an AI resort was like a cruise on land...it wasn't!!! I felt like we wasted our week of valuable vacation time. Would NEVER stay there again. Was too scared to complain in person as I witnessed several other people make complains and they were verbally attacked by a manager. I did not want to get further stressed by that and was feeling pretty exhausted and unwell. I have never written a negative review like this before and have more than 90 reviews on Trip Advisor. So much more negative I could talk about but Im over even thinking about it now. Our room maid was great though and we tipped her well,

Great location, Great value!

We stayed for 1 week in July, so it was very hot in Mexico! Our stay at royal Decameron was better than expected. We were in block 5. It was quiet, the tropical scenery, birds and flowers just off our deck were beautiful, relaxing, and fragrant. The grounds were kept immaculate, with staff constantly cleaning, sweeping, washing, painting etc. It is an older resort, so there is a lot of maintenance to be done, but they work very hard. Fresh corn tortillas pressed and cooked just before you eat them, and the guacamole was the best! We didn't have luck with the ala cartes, especially the Mexican one and Jap Jap. We must have had higher expectations, as we were disappointed in the quality of food. The rooms were basic and clean, although the air conditioner worked really well, it was loud, even when we turned it off we could hear the other rooms ac units buzzing through the walls! I'd recommend taking ear plugs if you're a light sleeper, although I got used to it! There was a great line up of activities to participate in. The beach was beautiful and the people selling jewelry etc on the beach are part of the resort, they are not pushy, and are respectful when you say no. We would definitely go back, it's amazing value and has a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Resort was sufficient.

The resort appeared large at first; although, you got used to the walking around afterwards. The resort is on the beach and the staff upkeeps the grounds constantly. The food is amazing if you are willing to branch out and try new foods. The staff were kind and cheerful. Not that it is the resort's fault, but if you go on the beach there are Mexicans bombarding you to purchase items. I hear this is common all over Mexico. This resort is also a distance from the city. There are no signs, and they don't notify you and when we arrived we were swimming around 9pm in front of an open bar and a security came blasting his whistle. There is a pool or all ages and there is adult only pools as well. The daily activities were good and the nightly performances were amazing! The other thing I disliked was the security at night appeared to be on a power trip. One of the workers was chatting with us at night, and the security supervisor walked by and muffled under his breath telling the guy to move on. Apparently the locals are not allowed to talk with the tourists. Also at night my friend and I would go to the same bar to meet people. The security guard would come and sit at the bar and stare at me and the bartenders if it were only I and them at the bar at the time. Then in spanish he would throw accusations to the bartender which made me sad because they were nothing but kind and excellent bartenders. My friend started to intervene and he denied it. I was later informed that one of the workers got written up for talking with the tourists. This what bothered me the most. I am not a big drinker but loved staying at the bar meeting all kinds of people. This resort is not all that exciting and when I went in june it was all Canadians and Mexicans. Not a lot of people between the ages of 25-40 without children. Overall, I would go here again if I wanted to relax at a resort. For something more exciting, I would go elsewhere.

Location Location Location, Best in the Bay

Great set up with the location in the Bay. From beach to the well groomed grounds, the guests services will amaze you as they did I. I will be back to enjoy the Best bay in the Pacifico. So much to see never enough days to do it.....

Great vacations

My sister and I went to this resort at the end of May 2015. There's nothing fancy but it's a great resort if you want to enjoy the beach and relax. As the other reviews mentioned, it's REALLY clean. They are always taking care of the resort. The long chairs (and yes they are not that comfortable after a week on it), the pools and the beach are cleaned every night. The food is good, you always find something to eat, whatever your preferences and the staff is very friendly and courtly. Amazing getaway

From day one we had a fantastic time, no work, no thinking, just plain old relaxing and enjoying the resort and all its activities. Every one was extra friendly. The beach was clean and the food great.
