Amazing experience

This resort had everything we wanted , good food , good drinks , very friendly staff . I will suggest this resort to anyone who wants to experience Cuba and have a stress free stay .Good location and very clean .

Melia Cayo Coco

We stayed one week in this lovely, small resort. The food was very good, as was the service. One thing we really enjoyed was the live music every night in the main lobby area. The beach was the only slight negative, as it isn't the white, wide beach you generally associate with a Caribbean vacation. But, all in all, we had great time, and would recommend this small, adults only, resort to people looking for a quiet, restful vacation.

Would go back for sure!

Everyone was so friendly and always had a smile. The rooms were clean and they all seem to be centrally located to all activities. The grounds, pool and beach were very clean and safe. The meals were amazing, I think I gained 10lbs:)

Outstanding Resort

This was our 2nd time to this wonderful resort. There was not one negative thing we could say about this resort. Outstanding service. The staff made this trip, so accommodating. We loved the entertainment. A wonderful variety of food. Our room was lovely and always clean, maids worked very hard. Planning to return next year. Thank you Melia Cayo Coco.

(Dec. 20th to Dec. 27th) and had one of the best experiences of my life. I am a seasoned traveler, a woman of size, have refined tastes and have an eye for detail. Booking and Price: We booked mid No [... read more]vember and got a decent price through the internet with Tripcentral. I would have paid more for the vacation we received. Two weeks before we left though, Can Jet offered the trip for $80 less, with the premium lagoon upgrade. We called to see if they could offer the same to us, even with out the lesser price but they wouldn't. This has nothing to do with Melia Cayo Coco but with Can Jet who clearly don't appreciate their customers. Flight and Transfers: Very good flight from Can Jet that arrived on time and left on time. Adult beverages, full cans of soda, a meal was served and (more than one adult beverage available) One movie was shown with free head sets distributed. Hard working attendants. When we arrived we cleared customs and our bags came off quickly. In Cayo Coco Jardins de la Ray we found our bus easily and boarded. Beer was $5/2 and Canadian $ was accepted at par. We were at our resort in 10 minutes. Arrival and Check in:This was the only frustration in our trip. There was a large group from our flight arriving about a half hour earlier than expected and I think we caught everyone at the Melia off guard. Check in is technically at 4:00 p.m. but they started to accommodate us at 12:30 p.m. We waited in line and were tired and hot. When we got to the counter there were forms to fill out that could easily have been given to us on the bus or while waiting. There was no organization to the line. After about a 40 minute wait ( we were served sparkling wine while we waited) we were given a room and our bags were added to a porter card. Before we left to our room we discovered that we had a duplicate room to those who were sharing the porter cart with. We went back to the desk, again, gave the other couple and their father the room and we were told we had to wait for our room for a few hours, We just went to the pool as jumped in had a few drinks and relaxed. It was not too much of a hardship as we had emergency swimsuits in our carry ons. We returned to the desk by 2:30 and had our room. We did not have a king size bed as requested and they apologized but gave us a great room location and apologized for the lack of efficiency. We then waited about 15 minutes for a porter and then gave up, taking our bags to our room ourselves. To many this may be unacceptable but considering check in time is 4:00 p.m. we did have our room early and it really was very close. Departure flight: Smooth and on time. Bus driver on the way to the airport, however, sent everyone into a panic when he told them all medication was not allowed in your carry on. I went into the airport when we arrived and was told prescription medicine was fine for your carry on Room: Location was excellent- 9521. 2 minutes to beach one way - 2 minutes to the main lobby/ buffet and pool if that. . Our room was a standard second floor and one of 3 in the bulding. They had pushed 2 double beds together to make the king bed, which was great, romantic canopy above the bed, desk writing station, fridge stocked daily, rocking chair, bed lamps and built in bed lighting, huge closet with large shelves and above shelves full bath (tub, removable shower head, bidet, toilet, sink, makeup mirror, hair dyer, soap, body gel, lotion and shampoo ( no conditioner- bring yours) lots of towels in room and beach towels when you arrive. Hair dryer was fine for me it had 2 speeds but someone with thick hair may want their own. Lots of lighting throughout, and SUPER CLEAN. The safe is easy to use and has a light in it! So handy! Flat screen tv with various channels. Air conditioner worked really well There is a coffee maker in room, 2 mugs 2, glasses and 2 refrigerated glasses.There is also a stocked mini fringe that was filled with anything we wanted... we left Brenda our maid notes... we liked water and beer... they also had soda available...everything was exceptional. These rooms are to be upgraded but I found them just fine... oh and they had a balcony too! Beach: I loved the beach. The water was clear and turquoise. There was no need for sand shoes. The sand is not as soft as Punta Cana the water is far more beautiful here. The ocean can get rough so watch the flags. There is the "towel game" that is very accepted here (as it is in Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican and every where else) There was, however no early rising for beach seats as there were plenty for everyone. If you want a pool for seat that is another story. Ask for a 6:45 wake up call...toddle to the pool side to get your favourite spot and either sit for a bit and watch the sun rise or go back to bed... or fall asleep...all is accepted .... no on will take your spot... it was fine even though there are signs posted not to do it. It is part of going to an all inclusive. There are men on the beach to help you get your chairs and towels down. The beach was unbelievable....it is not wide so getting to the water is easy. I saw a sea horse, an eel, pelicans, storks, schools of fishes and loved every second there. Suffered no sand fleas. Food: It is Cuba. They have supply issues. Food will not be like food where you are from but they do a darn good job at making it excellent. . I loved what I ate. Breakfast had anything you would find in Canada- eggs and omelets cooked to order, bacon, potatoes, hash browns, bread and toasts, crepe stations, various meats and cheeses, fresh juices, coffee, fresh fruit and some really odd things too. Take what you think you'll eat and try it... Lunch had many choices- buffet, snack bar or beach restaurant- grilled meats, calamari, pizza, fries, burgers, ice cream- loved the coconut, pastas, salads, Tons of choice...and some weird things too but choose what you want. Dinner: Buffet was great again...a carved meat and a huge selection of grilled meats and fishes, various pasta, a huge wheel of parmigiana to great fresh lots of choice... the shrimp was not what I was used and had heads attached to so I avoided it but others liked it...a matter of taste..There were also headless shrimps too! There was a vegetarian section each meal at the buffet as well. Each night had a station for a different international night (Asian, Mexican, Caribbean, Cuban, etc.) We had a good time at the Italian, Caribbean and the International a la cart restaurants.Service and food were great along with great presentation. I would consider some of the dishes served gourmet ( grilled rapinni and a ham and arugula puree comes to mind that was delicious). They also went to great lengths to prepare a wonderful Christmas eve meal for everyone on the 24th with the main being surf and turf. ( lobster and Filet Mignon) I also have to commend you on your enforcing the dress code at a la carte restaurants. Trousers were to be warn by men... even jeans if they have no proper long pants. This was enforced and adhered to. I appreciated when men who ignored the request were sent away to change. This makes the experience a more " special" event. Thank you. Drinks: anything you want any time... beer at 8:00 a.m. no problem... margarita on the beach at 3...served to you...4 shots of rum in a thimble of punch at midnight...not a blink of an eye and it is yours. The resort was full for our stay and we never had to wait for anything for more than 2 minutes... I loved the Crystal on Draft, the mojitos and the "Melia Cayo Coco" or what I like to call the blue drink... my guy loved them and the red and white wine too... he was into the scotch as well. They had frozen drinks and coconuts with rum added to them all included. They would also fill up your Bubba mug or plastic cup any where any time. Entertainment: Outstanding. I don't go to these places for the shows. My job involves teaching theatre and dance performance and tech to teens every day so I am quite cynical when it comes to this kind of thing. Because this is Cuba and everyone is payed the same the artists performing are all trained for at least 4 years in "show school" after high school and then apprentice for a year they are top notch. Magician clowns in the bar, first rate musicians in restaurants and on stage. Amazing singers... exquisite dancing in various styles...even ballet...performed on a real stage with lighting. Excellent costuming as well. It shows what you can do when you appreciate the arts. On Tuesday we were treated to the Aqua Ballet and this was outstanding. They were all from the Cuban national ballet. It was really amazing. On Christmas eve they had an amazing live nativity scene of tableaux actors in terracotta makeup and clothing... living statues... Service: The people who work here were amazing. They were so friendly, polite and happy wamazing.friendly, polite and happy we just loved being with them all the time. Shout outs in no particular order: Lester for my 2 eggs over easy! Arley our amazing bartender in the lounge. Brenda our maid and towel artist! Jordan in the Snack bar and Orlando too! Manual and Orlando on the beach for their knowledge and friendship There is a spa on site and you can get a massage but it is not like a fancy "spa" at other resorts. I did not go but they had a great special on for $44 pesos, 1/ hr massage. facial and reflexology. It was booked up. Excursions: There are a lot offered. We did take the 1. 5 open air At night there are various after show events. Lounge music, one night disco another, Karaoke another night. Lots of fun. There is love music all around the resort. So much nicer than pre recorded repeated piped in music.

Really amazing and Friendly

There are little to no complaints about this resort. The only issue we had in our room was the plumbing. But we were just unlucky with our room. Otherwise it was fantastic, place was clean and people were helpful. Horseback riding was excellent as it was our first time. We didn't do all the excursions, except the horseback riding and also a back massage which was great! We would definitely go back, and recommend everyone to go. For the price we paid, we were definitely happy and lucky

Wouldn't think of going anywhere else!!!

10th time there, as always we had a wonderful trip. Staff is amazing, service is great, always clean. Food is very good, our favorite is the beach restaurant. Giselle is one of the servicer, she always has a hug for us.

A Great Second Visit

We have just returned from our second trip to the Melia. We stayed Nov 29 – Dec 6 and again, had a fantastic time. The reason we came back to the Melia is the staff. They are truly the reason this resort is so popular. Their professionalism and friendliness match the best anywhere in the world. They are the true ambassadors of the Melia Cayo Coco. We had emailed Gippsy two weeks prior to our arrival, asking for a room in block 86 or 87 and sure enough we were assigned room 8724. Thank you Gip [... read more]psy. However, there was a problem and the room wouldn’t be ready for quite some time so we were asked if a room in block 89 would be ok. Bonus. Just as good. There were a couple of minor problems that were very quickly taken care of but they never could get the fan speed on the air-conditioned turned down. It was stuck on high which was noisy but luckily it cooled off in the evenings so we really didn’t need it on. We were in 8611 last year and this room, 8913, was pretty much the same except it had been freshly painted, had a flat screen TV, a canopy bed and updated bedspread and curtains. Furniture and bathroom were the same. Very clean and well taken care of each day. My kudo’s to the housekeeping staff. The buffet had the same high standards as it did last year. Lots of choices every day. Fresh omelets in the morning were a favorite and the pasta bar and the evening ‘Theme” meals were delicious. Lots of salad selections and the same fantastic deserts. Osvaldo and Yennifer took great care of us all week. Lunch at the beach BBQ was equally good. Grilled chicken, pork and ribs, as well as fresh fish and kabobs that the chef will cook for you. We only went to the Italian a la carte this trip and it was very good. All the bars have great service. We hung around the lobby bar the most. It was so nice to meet up with Yeni again. She is such a sweet heart and took great care of us. As did Aldo, Livan and Arley. Excellent service. The beach has lots of palapas and loungers, and it’s never a problem getting shade. When the tide comes in it gets quite narrow but there is still room to walk. Not really a problem. . We are not really pool people, but it was pretty windy at the beginning of the week and we found getting a lounger there was impossible. We would go through the pool area on our way to the lobby at around 7:30 and every lounger was taken by a towel. And almost half of them remained empty until late afternoon. This changed on the Wednesday and we didn’t have a problem after that, but there were still many that were claimed by towels all day long, but no one ever used them. As always, we took mosquito repellent but never used it. We didn't see a bug the whole time we were there. It was pretty breezy the whole week so I guess that is what kept them away. We had a great second visit and from the moment we arrived, the staff and management at the Melia were so helpful and friendly they couldn't do enough for us. It was sad to leave. Amazing Resort

The best thing about this resort was the people. They were so friendly and personable and is the main reason why we would return. With their humour they made the resort a fun place to be. You could join in with the many activities or sit by the pool and watch... both were fun. The food was excellent with lots to choose from at the buffet. Rooms were very clean, bed was comfortable, lots of hot water for showers, and the air conditioning worked very well. No complaints at all regarding the rooms. We took our universal plugins and our cell phones and iPads charged well. The blow dryer in the room worked well. Only wished a hair straightener could work there... will have to buy a European one maybe. The pool area and the pool were well maintained. Washrooms off the pool area were kept extremely clean with an attendance present at all times cleaning continuously. It was a pleasure to tip this person who, I'm sure, doesn't get many tips. :) Speaking of tips, a coin here and there is much appreciated. And those you tip will always remember you. Only one day were we inundated with mosquitos. It was a day of no breeze and lots of rain so that may account for some of it. Once they sprayed :( it was better. The lobby bar was the place to be when it rained as they had games to play if you wanted, or you could sit and drink and enjoy the company of others. We also enjoyed the variety of live entertainment in the lobby bar each evening until the nightly show began. We will definitely return to this resort and would highly recommend it. And it's so close to the airport... bonus! The Westjet Vacations people treated us very well and made sure we got to and from the resort.

Sunfilled getaway at Melia Cayo Coco

I was at Melia Cayo Coco nov 8 th for one week. I was with 5 others. The Melia is a clean, friendly resort. The Melia has excellent amenities such as a beach bar, daily activities at the beach and pool and a well equipped sports centre. If relaxation is more your stle, the beach is small but beautiful. There is a slight sea smell when walking towards the room, but there is no smell in the rooms or overthe lagoon. Finally, I would be remiss if I didnt mention the food. The buffet was excellent and comparable to any buffet restaurant in North America. Wide range of seafood plus fresh cook stations for made to order breakfasts and dinners. I am vegetarian and alwys had fresh, diverse food choices. I would recommend the Melia, the staff are genuinely friendly, funny and go out of their way to help the vacationers enjoy their holiday. I would definitely return to this resort which offers excellent value for the money.

Great adult only resort

Lovely mature resort. The live band every night in the lobby was fantastic. Rooms were nice and clean and lots of food to choose from in the buffet each day. The pool is well kept and there are lots of loungers to choose from in the sun or shade of palapa's.

Staff made the resort awesome

Really enjoyed this resort. This resort needs a bit of up grading as far as new tubs and faucets. Such a small thing to overlook when in paradise. Our room was a standard quit spacious, very clean. Beach was beautiful, tide was high first couple of days. By third day bit calmer and enough beach for a lounge chair, which were plentiful. If anyone were to complain about the food here they should stay at home. Dago and Yarima at the clubhouse bar always had time for a smile and friendly hola. The entertainment staff was a blast. Loved partcipating in their activities, dancing lessons by the pool, pumpkin carving on halloween. Emileidy, Yaneisy, Mave, PePe and Alex all awesome at their jobs of entertaining guests. Such great people, was lovely to talk to alot of the staff and get to know them. Live bands and entertainment everynight, was second to none top notch. Always something going on. Resort is 10mins from airport. You can exchange money at front desk 24/7 really convenient. Went to little flea market 10mins away, live entertainment. Good getaway with onsite scuba

Large resort with good buffet. Restaurants are ok but we preferred buffet. Scuba available for 3 dives per day. Easy to get to dive sites. Boat is smaller than last visit but great visibility and coral sites. Pool is lacking of an in-pool bar as you have to walk to the resto-bar... It's tough being on vacation Stayed in lagoon suite... Malia Cayo Coco

Had a fabulous time at the Malia, and people were so friendly. The food was great and the staff was so helpful and would do anything for you. The ocean when we went on October 15th to the 25th, was warmer than the pool. The pool area was great with lots of lounges and cabana's to shade the sun. Got burnt the first day, so had to use sunscreen the remainder of my time. When we left for our dinner at the buffet, we went to the lobby for refreshments and the entertainment was really good. The crowd there were applauding and appreciative of the entertainment, and the waiters were right there to accomadate you in whatever you wanted to drink. The staff at the resort were the best I have ever seen. I have travelled to many places , but this place I will be returning for sure. I was one for awakening at 5 am and would go for a coffee at the pool bar where I met people from all over the world and they would chat it up on their experiences at different resorts and were impressed with the service at the Melia. The staff at the pool bar would just tell me to sit down as they would know what coffee I was drinking and would bring it to my table. We would sit there with other people talking for at least 2-3 hrs about our life styles and in general, family, homes, and health of course. We didn't have anything bad to say about the service and the way you were treated by the staff there at the Melia. I would highly recommend this resort to people that are interested in great service , food, and the most important thing to most people is cleanliness, as the rooms and washrooms were spotless, and maintained on a regular basis. I can't say enough on how we enjoyed our trip to the Melia.

Great Value / Great Hotel

The hotel facilities are older, but the staff, food and location more than make up for its' age! This resort has a huge following of loyal, repeat customers, so when you visit, it is not unusual to meet up with guests you saw on the previous visit. It's a little like having a cottage at the lake, everyone and everything is familiar! Get to know the staff, they make you feel at home.

The hotel is beautiful from every angle that you look. It is clean and very well cared for. The food and buffet was very well stocked and very good quality. We never went hungry. The chefs take pride in their work. Our room was huge, centrally located with a great air conditioner and kept perfectly clean. The beach was lovely with loads of chairs and cabanas available. Very nice resort clean ,service was good&average

nice resort if you like adult only. i enjoyed MELIA' family resorts much more.we stayed at melia varadero earlier and found it to be not as boring.it was our choice type of resort .I would not hesitate to book a melia resort again .but not adult only

Good hotel

Nice hotel but it is not a 5 or 4 star, run down and since we have been there 2 years ago the hotel reduced the food, eg.from lobster to lobster paella only and the hotel redused the staff as well, we paid same price but it is not the same any more as it was 2 years ago.

Best ever Cuban vacation

The hotel is a 5 star facility "ADULT ONLY", which was exactly what we were looking for. The service is great, the grounds are kept well and the food was outstanding. We will be back in the near future.

Nice stay

we like cuba , especially varadaro. we tried cayo coco 1st time and another adult melia resort again. loved the piano bar nightly entertainment, atmosphere . we found the buffet very good ( lobster on cuba night) and the 3 a la cartes were 3 for 3 in pleasure & atmosphere and found dishes that we liked in them all. we loved the beach, played in the water & walked for miles; though the yellow flag was up for the entire week and could not water sport. the rooms were nice; quite and clean. took a t [... read more]axi full day trip to camuguay; reasonable, because we have done the usual day trips before. on the down side, there are always a couple staff that need a little attitude upgrade. we heard Spanish comments about the health of Cuban teeth vs tourists. maybe too many tooth brushes for the above average income of many resort staff, or that a dollar is better than a tooth brush. and one bar tender. the rest of the staff were over the top, as were have found all over cuba. the pool was nice but really not for a swim. it seemed 50 % of the visitors were 50 plus so at in 50's were were fine with this mix.
