Worth the money

The Grounds were beautiful, staff were very friendly. The food was ok but the Buffett had the same choice everyday. Not much variety. The rooms were dated and the beds could be larger and softer, very hard mattresses.

Great resort

First time in Cuba. Recommend the blau costa verte Great time beautiful beach. Lots to see and do very friendly staff. Rent a scooter for the day. And explore the county side you will not be dissaponted.

Pretty good, but not great.

Nice grounds, lots of trees around, beautiful beach with lots of palapas, snorkelling right there, tons of chairs. Same food every night, but I guess that's par for the course in Cuba. We upgraded to Plus to get beside my sister. We ended up having ants in the riom for three days, which were attracted to the sugar packets that were there for coffee.

Great resort!!

We Upgraded to the "Plus" aka deluxe package. Excellent rooms, access to VIP pool and VIP bar, great beach, food was awesome, shows were average, grounds were well maintained, always lots of loungers and shade on the beach, bars everywhere, 24 hr snacks- cheeseburgers, fries, hot dogs, club sandwiches, ham and cheese sammich. Main dining area always had fresh made to order- chicken breast, pork, beef, fish and pastas for supper and lunch. Breakfasts consisted of fresh made to order omelettes, ba [... read more]con, pancakes, some cereals, numerous other breakfast choices, Bread was good but ran out at breakfast on 2 occasions. Bring ketchup, relish, Splenda and tea bags WIFI is pay for use- about $7.20 cdn/ hr. No high speed, make sure you follow the directions posted on the computer room door (even if you use your own device on WIFI) for logging off. I wasn't told about it and lost 55 minutes as I was given my pass and told nothjng about how to log off and since I sat in the lobby knew nothing about going to a web site to log off. I was told that the manager would look into it and get back to me but he/she never did, lost $7.20.

Great value

We got the plus and felt it was well worth it. The pool is better, more a la cartes, and the VIP bar. But the best part was the medical staff. I felt poorly the third day and was seen by the nurse immediately. My blood pressure was very high and she called the Doctor. He came within 1/2 hour and gave me a checkup to make sure I hadn't had a stroke. He put me on medication and I was checked out everyday by the nurse to make sure my pressure was going down till I left. Nice resort for a great price

This resort was a great last minute deal for me. And it was exactly as I expected- nothing fancy, but a good clean friendly place. I stayed in the Plus side and liked being in a quieter building away from the busy main pool area. The room was clean and the bathroom big. The food was very good in the a la carte restaurants and I was able to find fresh fruit and yogurt in the buffet every other meal. Pizza at the Italian place for lunch was great. The only disappointment was the lobster dinner-  [... read more]which I had been really looking forward to. Not only was the staff not on their game that night, but the lobster was terrible. They want to do a special dinner, but really shouldn't even bother. On the weekend, they open up a second buffet for breakfast and dinner closer to the beach and this was a much nicer place to eat. Much less crowded and a nice open air space. The beach was a little rocky in places, but if you move away from the main part it was absolutely perfect- fine white sand and gorgeous sea. I could have done without the music they had playing, but again, I just moved away from the crowd (as you can probably tell, I wasn't there to party. Though many were.) Overall a nice resort with a good price.

Great Resort!

Had a great week. Excellent service, good food, nice beach. The beach was fairly small but had enough room. Beautiful white sand. Good snorkeling. The buffet food was the same every day, but had lots of choice. There were only 2 alacart options, the Cuban was good, the Italian excellent. Lots of activities during the day. Of the evening shows, the water ballet was by far the best. The rest were just ok. We would come back here again.

High class and just fine.

While I am used to booking 2* places and loving them, it is nice to find a place where keys always work, plumbing always works, no rust or peeling paint, no shouting by staff in the halls early in a.m. Excellent value and comfort.

Amazing Resort

We have been to this resort at least 12 times. We love the resort and the people. The Food is awesome. They have added a new part and we stayed in that part this time. It is close to a small town, so you can take a cab or bus.

Blau Costa Verde - great trip

The facilities are all very good. Staff are lovely. We stayed in the Plus area which is worth the extra if you prefer to be in a quiet area. Food was pretty good especially the Italian restaurant, which is open at lunch, but requires reservations for dinner.All the speciality restaurants require reservations and that involves lining up. Do it as soon as you arrive. (Common to most all-inclusives). Swimming, at the beach and the pools, is gorgeous; parts are rocky - take beach shoes. Great Resort!

This was my first time in Holguin, or in Cuba, or indeed anywhere in the Caribbean. And to top it off I went solo - so I really didn't know what to expect. After some investigation on the internet I decided that this one was the best value for the money but worried it may have too cheap. I needn't have - the hotel and country turned out great and exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend it.

Another excellent visit to the Blau!

Just back from an excellent week (January 9 to 16) with a group of 8 family members. I had been here in April, had a great time, and decided to bring my family back to the Blau in Cuba, for it’s great beaches, wonderfully friendly people, hot, sunny weather, and the food. The food is better than any other Cuban resort I have stayed at. If you can't find something on the buffet, then you are just too picky. We enjoyed lunch three times at the Italian restaurant, which served excellent pizzas and pasta, made fresh to order. (The bolognese sauce on penne was my favourite!) Other group members raved about the margarita pizzas. There are several a la cartes to choose from(Cuban, Italian, Spanish & French) get the upgrade, it's worth it for the VIP bar alone. With the upgrade to VIP you get extra choices of restaurants too, and for returning guests, a lovely VIP dinner by the pool. Our group was in buildings 16 and 18 - a good central location, but there is lots of walking thoughout the resort. Very close to the VIP pool and beach. The beach is beautiful, and you can walk a long way in front of other resorts. Yes, the beach is a bit rocky, but you can navigate through the rocks easily. Two sand bars make hanging out lots of fun, jumping waves. Be sure to set up near where the paddle boats are and the catamarans. Easy to maneuver through there. There were lots of fish to see, even close to the shore without goggles! We met lots of great, fun minded Canadians who made our stay excellent along with a lovely lady from England. We had the pleasure of meeting Sam from Acton, and taking him out on the paddle boats several times as well. Most activities are on the beach during the morning, and the action switches to the main pool area in the afternoon. Leo the bartender at the swim up bar is the best! And Yannis at the beach bar - always a smile at the ready. At night he could be found in the disco too. The disco opens at 11:00 every night, and closes at 2 am. Be sure to make sure to request your favourites or make a play list – both DJ’s we met were very accomodating and put our songs on right away. By the third night we didn’t even have to ask for them. The staff at the 24 hour snack bar were wonderful! They were friendly, professional and happy in their jobs. Check in was easy and the front desk staff were very polite and professional. We also never had any problem exchanging money at the front desk. Wendy and Julie in Public Relations are both excellent at their jobs and Wendy went over and above when needed. I agree with a fellow passenger that any bad reviews you read are just bad attitudes. For the price and the staff alone, the Blau hits the mark right on. Service! Food! Amenities! Beach! We had a great time overall for sure. The only negative experience was no movie on the Cubana airlines flights. You may want to book another airline….

Nice spot.

The new pool was beautiful! The rooms were fairly new and housekeeping did an excellent job. The food for Cuba was especially good, both the buffett and al a carte restaurants. Beautiful beach with lots to do.

Beautiful Beach!

This was our first visit to Cuba, and we were not sure what to expect. The resort more than met our expectations. The rooms while dated were comfortable, the lobby area is very welcoming and a great place to have a cappuccino after dinner. We were warned about the quality of the food and lack of spices, but we were pleasantly surprised! There was a great selection of food and it was very tasty. The [... read more] beach is incredible, although a little rocky on the way in, the water is crystal clear and it's absolutely beautiful. We found all staff members to be super friendly and very courteous. We travelled as a family and on arriving found that our rooms were not adjoining but this was cleared up immediately with a call to the front desk. My only advice would be to update the bathrooms as they are looking very tired and not functioning very well.All in all we loved our vacation and will certainly be back!

Needs more staff.

The grounds are beautiful and very well kept, the garden staff work tirelessly. The hotel is understaffed, it was not at full capacity but what staff there are, are over worked and it shows they are stressed.

A 3 star at best

I’ll start with the positives…the food in the buffet and a la carte restaurants was acceptable and in a few cases, really quite good. If you upgrade to the PLUS side (recommended !!!) then I think this resort can be rated 3 stars. However, if you get stuck with a room in the standard (older) section you’ll have a 2 star or worse experience. We were in one of those rooms for one night and it was pretty bad. We upgraded to PLUS the next morning and were happier. The room is still very basic [... read more], nothing luxurious - just newer. The upgrade cost is 10 CUC per person, per night. The PLUS section is only a couple of years old. It has a much nicer pool and gives you access to 2 more a la carte restaurants, and a VIP bar which serves better selections of liquor. It’s a bit quieter as well. But if you can’t upgrade, beware- rooms in the older section are badly dated and worn down, have a musty smell, old mattresses and a run down look and feel. Many of the rooms in the older section overlook the entertainment stage with its huge speakers operating at full blast- not just the music at night but also the loud entertainment around the pool area in the day. (Even on the beach it was hard to get away from the loud music) One of the worst things about this place is maintenance and general cleanliness. Things here break and they don’t bother to fix things. Even on the PLUS side, the jacuzzzi at the pool was broken (and no efforts to get it working ) and in our room, certain things were broken as well. In the health club, the shower had only cold water and no shower head, nor soap. There just seems to be no effort or interest in maintaining and keeping the place clean. The beach - the resort is on Playa Pesquero. The beach is clean, but it’s not a long beach – you can walk end to end in 15 minutes or less. There are about 3 resorts on this beach, the Blau being at the far easterly end. There are a lot of rocks in her water in front of most of the resorts, and very few places where you can walk in and avoid them. Overall, The beach is poor compared to Varadero or Cayo Santa Maria standards. So if the beach is important, go there instead. So, if you don’t set your expectations too high and if you get a really good price, and you upgrade to PLUS, this can be an OK experience.

Very Nice!!

I would recommend this hotel to families as that is whom we saw the most (we went as a couple). The food was good, the trips were good and the facility was safe. Lots of guards surrounding the facility. One reason we went to this place was for the snorkelling off the beach and that was excellent.

Very good resort for the price

Very good beach, but lacks restrooms and service. Also lot of rocks, so need to take water shoes. Hotel service was very good, rooms were clean and well maintained. Food generally OK, ranging from really good to below average. Buffet used for most meals was generally quite good. Long, rough ride to and from Holguin airport. Grounds are beautiful. Staff were terrific.

Great staff

Overall the "plus" side of this hotel was very good. The cleaning staff and the grounds keepers kept the inside and outside in top shape. The bar and restaurant staff and especially the activities staff went above and beyond to make this stay very enjoyable.

Amazing resort

nice resort, very clean, super good food and entertainment.The beach is OK but a lot of rocks from beginning, no problem with chairs on beach. I loved "a la carta music" show every evening before main show. The best was water ballet. Like the tours the resort offered, very interesting to see country, catamaran tour was the best.The staff very friendly, always smileing with good English. I will go there again.
