Hola Cuba

A good variety of facilities, activities and the entertainment was exceptional, helpful, friendly staff, very clean but a bit tired, great beach, beautiful grounds and swimming pools but the food was average and the internet service was poor.

The resort was OK

the buffet was repeatitive, always the same food morning,lunch and supper, very few choice, it was clean, but on the last day we found a coach roach in our room, not impressed, as for drinks often you had to go get your drinks cause they did not come around that often, will not be going back to that resort, it was not a 5 star hotel, maybe a 3 1/2 to 4

Needs better food and service

This hotel needs better service for the rooms ,better food yes I know that's Cuba for you but honestly it was repeat on the food .music by the pool was very bad slow songs all day long you are in Cuba. Need Cuban music to get yourself in the mood .But the grounds where beautiful .

Why did I pay for Royal Service

Got back Sat Dec 1st 2018. Resort was ok, but paid for Royal Service and there was no way to differentiate guests who paid from those who didn’t. Throughout stay several guests came over to our side, ate at our restaurant, used our bars and pool and beach, so question is why pay for upgrade when anyone can come over. Other issues I had were consistency. Main lobby bar was great, no matter what drink we ordered, it was great, but. Ran out of beer, coffee pods and vodka more than once... each was beautiful and water was warm, and soft sand no rocks.. Room was comfortable and clean. Most staff very friendly.

Very nice resort!

The ground were nice, rooms were okay but no air conditioning only a fan. The mens washroom at the pool was out of order all week. Beach was awesome but the men running the catamarans would not take anyone out unless you paid for the 2 hour 20 dollar trip even though it included 20 minutes per day. We bugged and bugged and finally the last day we got 20 minutes. The food was okay resterants were nice. Hated that everyone had their hands out for money. Spa was awesome had a great massage. Fan in bathroom did not work asked several times at the front desk but never fixed or even looked at once. Entertainment was lacking most nights just a band or DJ. Would rate it a 7 out of 10. 4 to 4.5 stars definately not a 5. Resort Playa Cayo Santa Maria blew this resort away.

Loved it!

Very much enjoyed our 7 night stay. Our room 6117 was close to everything. The pools are amazing. Improvement to the way the restaurants are booked are needed. Waited in line for over an hour. Very friendly staff! Thank you for a great vacation!

Wonderful to Relax & Explore

This Melia resort is one of my all time favourites! The layout is great because all room accommodations and villas are close to recreational amenities and restaurants. The beach is just a 2-5 min walk from anywhere on the resort and Varadero has one of the best beaches in all of the Caribbean. Excellent Vacation stay

We had an amazing 7 days in Cuba and cannot wait to go back! Our resort was fantastic with stunning views from our second floor balcony. Such friendly people that teated us like a good friend, we felt very welcomed and truly enjoyed our stay. We read a lot of reviews complaining about the food and I was expecting it to be much worse than it actually was, I found it to be quite acceptable for "buffet" style. Wonderful resort !

We really enjoyed ourselves at the Paradisus Princess Del Mar! Everything was great ! Great beaches, great restaurants, great staff ! We will definitely be coming back !

Management must be doing something right

First time at this resort, overall we had good time. We did not stay in Royal Service section. Beach was great, grounds well kept. Rooms are ageing, but kept clean. Air conditioning was quite weak, had to keep it on all the time. Food quality was above average for Cuban resorts. Positive staff attitude, turned the vacation into a success. Management must be doing something right.

Unbelievable

We really enjoyed our stay ! Our room was huge and clean but a bit dated. The beach was beautiful with great views and clean, the drinks were plentiful, service was good if you stayed near the bar ! Plenty of chairs and umbrellas but go early. The pool area was clean and spacious, always got a great spot with lounge chairs. Service was good around the pool , always got a drink when needed. The rock band was our favorite!, Some minor things that stood out was the lighting near our rooms it was to dark ! Some thing so simple to solve and is the biggest negative!! Mixed feellings

Very good beach and pool. Friendly but not always efficient staff. Even though the resort was nowhere near full, we were put into a ground floor room in spite of requesting a second floor. The room was so musty we asked to change and were shown another equally smelly ground floor room. Only then were we given a choice of acceptable second floor rooms. Another negative feature was the poor quality food in the restaurants. The meal in the so-called French restaurant (there was nothing remotely  [... read more]French about the menu) has to rank as one of the worst I have ever been served. Out of the restaurants, only the Japanese was any good.

A nice resort to stay for a week

Not really a five star resort as they say but comparable to the other ones we saw it is good. Staff are nice but expect to tip every time they help you with anything. Not that you shouldn’t tip but even if you ask a question, I feel like they expect for you to tip. Rooms are not exactly the same as pictures but nice and big enough. If you want to make a reservation, the Japanese restaurant was the best. Staff was amazing and food too! The activities was good in the beach area. Pool area is a bunch of annoying uni kids that are obnoxious!

Beautiful resort

The service was awesome. The pool bar staff were amazing in personality and in service. The lobby bar was peaceful, relaxing and the service was great. The beach was beautiful. Our room was spacious and we had an amazing ocean view; thanks to the wonderful check in staff. Everything was clean...very clean. The food was very good.

Good value for your money

Nice hotel. Clean, people are extremely friendly and hard working trying to please you. Are room was nice. We have gone to this resort two years in a row. We Obviously enjoyed the resort the first time... but I must say that the food at the buffet in the evenings sometimes this year was not very good. Was a bit disappointed with that. Never again

This resort is Not a 5 star , we are very disappointed. From the first day we arrived I was not happy. My daughter and I , we got there after 10pm , we had to wait for everyone to check in so that the bell boy would take us all together to the buildings . We where in building # 1 (good location) on the second floor, the bell boy left us in front of the building, no help from him , he didn’t help anyone. The food was not good, for a 5 star hotel was really bad. I go to Cuba almost every year, this was the worst ever. By the Beach no one came to ask you if would like a drink , There is a bar there but for 5 star they should come around and bring you drinks. By the pool area another upsetting thing. The beds are occupied by the workers with a book and towels until they get a good tip from someone. The pool chairs also have cushions but they want you to ask so that you can tip them . Not enough lights at night. I didn’t see a onion or tomato in one week, make sure you bring your ketchup , I only saw it two days. What you see on the menu most of the stuff they don’t have. The last day was also a big disappointment, we got a room to get ready and shower because our bus was for 6:30 pm. We got a room where the bathroom was disgusting, was dirty, no clean towels , dirty towels all over , the toilet was dirty with urine and stool. Just unbelievable, the manager apologized for that. Just a bad experience, the beach was beautiful.

Outstanding Resort

The resort facilities are beautiful. The beach is amazing with the beautiful ocean at its doorstep. The buffet restaurant has a good variety of food types but the a la carte restaurants on site are so much better quality of food and surroundings. Be sure to reserve for the a la carte restaurants well ahead of time though!! Overall I would recommend this resort to my friends and hope to return!!

Relaxing in the summer

This is Cuba, so come with expectations based on it being a country cut off from its closest geographic logical trading partner, the US. That said, most of the time everything was in pretty good supply, aside from one time they ran out of fries. But not their fault, that's just circumstances. Make sure you book your restaurants for the week as soon as you get in, as they will fill up and they are fantastic. Drinks at the bars are strong and delicious. I wish I could review them more in depth but the number I had made it harder to remember them individually. Excellent Pina Coladas and Lime Daiquiris. Service was okay, wearing a smile on our faces tended to show people we were easy going and they were kinder with us. Tipping is also important. Tip with your first drink when you arrive at a bar. Tip consistently for your room cleaners. Cushioned beds around the pool were claimed at around 6:45 am. So if you're not up at that point you're not really getting one. The pool doesn't get deeper than an adult can stand up in. That might be a safety standard for the swim up bar. But don't expect to be doing laps. My wife had a massage and absolutely loved it. The beach was absolutely fantastic, and the bartenders there were the friendliest we saw. There were drop in shows and activities scheduled throughout the week, and we were there in the slow time so it was lovely to see that was still being done. There was a bit of wear and tear around, but this is an older resort, and Cuba has a harder time with replacements for things like floor tiles. Made for a very pleasant honeymoon.

Great Resort!

The resort and all facilities included were incredible. Beautiful pools and beautiful beaches. Many of the staff were very friendly as well. Buffet food not great, but the a la carte food was amazing.
