Overall, the resort is nice Everything is easy accessible. However, the nightlife is lacking. The shows are not very good. The entertainment in the pools is almost nonexistent. However, the water aerobics is a lot of fun. The music is in one area so unless you take a speaker there’s nothing. This is not a resort for people with children or young adults. Just nothing for them. Was raining a fair bit the week we were there. The roofs were leaking in our rooms not nearly enough umbrellas!! . staye[... read more]d in the adult only building 6 beds are rock hard quite nice and presentation tho. With house coats and slippers.rooms hadGreat air conditioning.
Wifi is spotty unless you’re in the VIP lounge.
VIP lobby was amazing!!
Drinks were good in the VIP we definitely loved the coffee machine.
buffet was good Especially the pasta /omeletteguy . Bacon is only served every second day.
Did have a problem in snack bar with somebody cooking raw chicken beside other food and touching it with raw chicken fingers. So if you’re eating here be cautious just watch as their heating your food they do it right in front of you. We did all of the à la carts they were all good just took way too long. Two hours plus each sitting so if you wanna get into these make sure you’re there at a 6:10 or you’re not getting in. For 6:30 opening
In the sports lounge, it’s very hard to get tokens for pool tables. The machine is very finicky .
The beach is nice in front of the hotel, however, as soon as you walk 10 feet away. It’s all trash and lots of glass. Not very well maintained it had a fair bit of seaweed. Didn’t see anybody out maintaining it the whole week.
But for the value, it was good. I would suggest anybody going spend the money and go adults only. Or VIP.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Nice but needs improvement
Hotel areas are clean and well kept. Great service from staff. VIP is not worth it.
Rooms - are dated, missing amenities, not consistent house keeping services. No drawers to put your clothes. Coffee machines not cleaned, old and rusty. Only mirror was in the bathroom. Hard to get extra pillows and blankets, although part of VIP service, had to ask constantly before we received them. Mini bar was not filled daily. Only pop and beer.
VIP lounge - great bar staff and service. Nic[... read more]e area to relax and grab coffee every morning.
A al carte - reservations not needed , no special consideration for VIP. Everyone has to wait for a table, very long line ups. 3 a la cartes in total, however only 2 were open each day. Mediterranean restaurant was the best. The Mexican restaurant needs improvement.
Buffet - very good, great selection each day.
VIP beach area - not the best. Needs a lot of work and upgrades. Great bar service there for VIP.
Pools - very nice but no swim up bar. Very limited shaded areas. Not enough umbrellas. You had wake up by 430am to reserve a shaded area.
Grounds - very well kept
Shows - entertaining, great staff and enjoyed the variety of shows.
Overall, the hotel rooms need a major upgrade and Staff is amazing

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Horrible resort
We vacationed at the Cofresi Palm Beach Hotel in Puerto plata, Dominican Republic on April 4th to 11th. I had family meet my husband and I here there for a total of 7 people.
This hotel is definitely not for anyone however has a mobility issue. There is no
elevators and so many stairs. The hotel is in disrepair, with broken furniture and the bathrooms, for example, tubs with cracks and faucet pulled off.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Quite Resort
Hotel was very clean, staff absolutely amazing, super helpful and made you feel so welcome. Always had a smile and a wave hello. Made my husband's birthday special.
If you are looking for a quite resort for relaxing with not alot of activities. This is your resort. Music was top notch during the day during activities, but then very quite elevator music until 930.
There isn't anything to do if it's raining. It would of been nice if they opened the pool tables, or have indoor things to do. Fro[... read more]nt lobby very cute but feel the space could be more used if there was a lobby bar.
Room was nice and big. But our toilet leaked and bathroom door didn't close. The AC is super cool so bring a sweater to keep on in your room. No face cloths or extra towels.
(2 towels pre room) also no milk for your coffee either.
Netflix was hit or miss
Mexican and Italian food very yummy. Amazing omlet station at the buffet for breakfast. Lunch by the beach has the best pizza. We did get tried of the same food daily there wasn't much change to the menu.
Overall I would give it a 6 out of 10.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: A great solo holiday!
Viva Heavens is a nice resort. This was my second stay and again it was exactly as I expected. The food is good, the rooms and grounds are very well kept. The staff go out of their way to make your holiday as relaxing as possible. Compared to other resorts this one tends to be quieter and more relaxing. I would definitely go back . I was actually called in my room twice to make sure everything was OK snd I was happy. Now that's customer service. Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Marien family vacation
Nice enough resort. The rooms are a bit dated but clean. The pools are nice but not much for entertainment. No servers at the pool or beach. The food was average (better than Cuba) but plentiful. Lots of fresh fruit at every meal. The nightly shows were ok. The dancers were great. The beach had lots of seaweed but you could walk and find some clean spots. All staff were very friendly and accommodating. Overall it’s a good no frills value resort with an incredible mountain view.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Beautiful resort!
We booked this hotel fairly last minute based on some friends that had booked first. We have been to Punta Cana numerous times with mostly just “ok” experiences. We didn’t have high expectations going here but we were pleasantly surprised with this resort!
Grounds- beautiful! The scenery is amazing, beach and mountains surround this resort.
Rooms- only 3 buildings have been renovated. We started in a room that wasn’t reno’d and it was ok. No real issues except musty smell and the shower wa[... read more]s very dark and dingey. We upgraded to a newer room- still musty smelling but nothing Damp Away can’t help with. Shower was much nicer and open. however it did leak into the bedroom one time. Large room with big floor balcony.
Beach- mostly sandy but does get a bit rocky going into the water. Was very clean, barely any seaweed. Much wavier than our previous Punta Cana beaches so can’t go out too far.
Staff- can’t say enough good things about the staff at the resort from the cleaning personnel to the chefs, bartenders and housekeepers. Everyone was so friendly!
Food- no complaints which we were shocked about. Something could be found at every buffet night for dinner. Lots of breakfast selections. Only 2 a la carts between our 2 rooms which we wished we could have gotten more.
Only downside we could really comment on is that it is a hub spot for the cruise ships to dock and they block off a section of the beach along with many lounge chairs for the cruise visitors which kind of sucked for us trying to get a beach chair. They also made the pool and bars super busy when they were all there, so difficult to get drinks.
Otherwise we loved the Senator and would 100% come back.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Our home away from home
We've been here 13 times and love it. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The food is great as are the staff. There are different room options to suit ones budget. We take the standard room (unrenovated) and it's clean and everthing works, just outdated but we're not in our room much. Can't wait to go back again in November.
My only negative is that there are not enough parasols at the big pool. They brought 2 more in, so now there's 3 which is just not enough. Even getting up [... read more]at 6:30 am, I was too late to get one most of the time.

Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Good small resort
We had a great vacation at Emotion by hodelpa in Puerto Plata. It is a small relaxing resort and the staff is great.
We did have problems with our fridge (didn’t work) in our room and leaking sink which was never resolved even if we brought it up to reception. A repair man came over but even though he said he would be back, he never did. We really appreciated the live band and a la carte restaurants and espacially the mexican. We went twice.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: It was okay
Well organized pick up and transfer to the resort from airport. Fast check in too.
The junior suite room was exactly as we saw online. With one surprise, a view of the pool and beach! We were close to the pool, bar, snack area and beach(3 mins). Room was always done and mini fridge full with water, beer and pop.
AC worked amazing especially since it was soooo hot. Just what we needed.
One thing we didn't like and annoyed us to no end was the constant staff asking if we wanted massages. It wa[... read more]s non stop everyday right until we were about to leave to go back home. If we are interested we will find you. Stop the nagging!
Also, when getting a junior suite you may get a deal that includes some VIP privileges. We had that. We came out of the pool on day one, went out to our balcony and there was a staff member(man) saying "you are late come come. You get VIP tour."
Sweet! We figured we could see where everything was, like the bars and restaurants. Boy were we fooled. Totally not that at all. We were taken to a big white building that says "lifestyles vacation club". We were told to sit on these fancy couches and then someone came for us. We were told to come with him he was our tour guide. Ok. Off we went. 4 hrs later
..no lie, and 2 pissed off people(myself and my husband) the "tour" was done. They didn't show us the different pools, or stores, or restaurants or bars! No. They showed us all the options out there to become "vacation club" members. Not a "time share"(which is exactly what it is) after I finally stepped up and said "I'm getting angry. We are NOT doing it so stop trying" we were finally set free
...and no they didn't take us back to our resort which was a far walk in the heat. We caught a shuttle instead. Which is a great addition at the resort I might add. The shuttle runs every 15-25 mins. Tell them where you want to go and they take you! And seeing how it's a Stay at 1 Play at 3 Resort, it comes in handy and really appreciated!
The food was ok. Nothing fancy but we didn't starve and we ate healthy. Only issue is there isnt a restaurant open 24/7. So if you miss breakfast you wait again until it opens for lunch, same again with supper. But the staff there were great! They even befriend you and remember your faces.
Not alot of entertainment. We pretty much just hung with friends and drank and made our own fun. No bars open down by Cofresi resort (where we stayed) past 7pm. So we had to make our way up to others. When I say up, I mean all up hill...with many many sets of concrete unlevel steps. Not fun in the heat or when you are hungry or tipsy. But again thank god for the shuttle.
They aren't shy on the booze either. I actually had to ask for less alcohol in my drinks because they were so strong. But hey won't complain on that end! Great offering.
If you book a trip and get a later time to leave resort, make a plan. We had to check out of our room 1130am. Didn't leave til 720pm for airport. To stay in the room and extra 1 1/2 hrs it was $20.00 usd. After that it was $10.00hr usd per person up until 5pm! Ya no thanks. There is a locked room where they store your luggage and can have access to. That is when the Bellhop is there..
Don't fall for the "you can use hospitality room" crap either. Said you can go in to shower before you leave. What a joke
! We sat there infront of the desk for 2.5 hours waiting for our turn. We kept being told "check back in 30 mins" or "yes you are next what is your name". Joke. We asked 3 times and got "oh sorry someone is in there" then when we said " we have been here you said you could see us and will tell us when free and now it's not" we were pissed. We didn't get to shower after spending our last day there...so imagine what a comfy flight we had. They also don't include soap or shampoo in the hospitality room and 2 towels and apparently it was disgusting with a broken shower head. Guess we dodged a bullet.
Don't lose your bracelets. $200.00usd to replace. Don't lose your blue towels. $40.00 usd each for a new one. Also don't leave in your room at check out. Bring them to the front desk!
Bring cash
Don't use card
They seem to convert from Pesos to Usd then Canadian. We thought it was only USD to Canadian exchange when using CC. Nope. When we saw our online statement we near died!!
Book your excursions on resort only. Not with anyone on the beach.
Recommend the ATV 3 hour tour and party boat(booked at water sports store on the boardwalk at Cofresi) what a time!
We had Mexican A la Carte. It was ok. Atmosphere was nice and relaxing. Then we had Italian. It was very good. Atmosphere was not so good. So loud, lots of yelling. Couldn't have a conversation across the table. Didn't stay for dessert because of headache from the noise.
Overall, we had a great time and made the best of it. Met up with our friends who also came and met some new ones!
Just keep an eye and pay attention to the negatives mentioned above.
Hesitant on going again though because 5/6 of us got super sick the first few days home. We weren't on the same flights so had to be the resort.
