Beautiful resort

The resort was beautiful. The apartments are a bit far from the beach but had its own little pool and bar which was nice. We had ants in room but a beautiful marina view. Food was bland as to be expected. We felt bad for the people of Cuba and wish we brought more gifts like medicine, toiletries, baby items.

Not impressed

This hotel was a bit tired and the rooms were in need of updates. The stairs down to the pool were very dark and the chandelier needed to be replaced. This resort is not in the beach. The chairs in the main lounge were so heavy you needed two people to move them.

The level of this resort should not be a 5 Star

The staff were great and very helpful for the most part and the exception was the front desk personnel - very standoffish and not too helpful at times. The food was good and what one would expect. However, our room was not too clean and we had to be moved because of infestation of Bugs!!! Not commenting on the kind they were.

Great Hotel

Great resort, all rooms have sea view, lovely staff, food is not wow but better than other hotels. If you like seeing old cars, this is the place you must visit. the whole country is like a museum for old Chevrolet and ford card which are maintained in an immaculate state.

Had a good time, but could be better...

The resort is generally welcoming and we did have a good time, however there were a few things that could be improved. When we first arrived, we found out that the lock to our room was not working, and we had to wait for the technician to fix it although we were super hungry. The room was not very well maintained, the garbage can in the room was broken, and the window over the bath tub doesn't close completely and had a slit in between. What's even worse is that there is no shower curtain at the [... read more] shower so I could see the shower area clearly through the slits from the room. Although this might not be a concern for couples travelling together, I went with my parents and this caused us a lot of inconvenience. The pool and beach were all right, not quite comparable to Mexico, but they served their purpose. The food was generally salty and not of very high quality, especially compared to other common vacation sites like Mexico. The water melons are literally unripe and white in color but still got served. One last thing is while we were there, the coffee bar didn't offer decaffeinated coffee even though it was listed on the menu. This was kind of disappointing to us as my family is quite sensitive to caffeine. The resort staff were all very friendly and helpful, so thumbs up for that. Overall, this is okay resort (although not worth 5 star definitely), but I would probably go somewhere else if I return to Cuba.

Very nice and modern resort with Marina

Elegant amenities all over the resort, clean, quiet, perfect for vacation and relax. I only wish, beautiful pools area have umbrellas for a little of shade. To me, resort is very different what we saw for years in Cuba, but excellent!

Paradise in Cuba

This hotel was first class. Good food, great beach for swimming, adequate pools and pool bars. Service was first class. I highly recommend the upgrade to "The Level" the upgrade includes an extra a la carte restaurant and concierge services.

Great resort and vacation!

The hotel was nice, the grounds were beautiful. Although the resort is fairly new the room looked pretty worn already. But you don't spend a lot of time in the room. The food was good you will always find something you like. The drinks were fabulous! Soooo much choice. The staff were incredible! Tips weren't expected and actually they seemed pretty surprised when you did tip. It's on the Marina so the resort is like a little town with lots to see and you are able to walk around. Wonderful resort!

I don't recommend any resort less than 5 stars, because we visited different resorts by the bus from airport to resort, those 3-4 stars looked so old and low quality. Melia Marina is one of the best resort in Varadero. Facility, service and food are reasonable. But don't expect too much on food. Overall the trip was smooth. Don't forget to buy some alcohol back in the airport, it was so cheap while the same thing is sold 5-6 times more expensive in Canada.

Good resort

Excellent and professional services, good location, nice hotel beach, good pool, a lot of entertainment and shows, different types of restaurants, clean rooms, a very good memory. We will stay in this hotel again, and certainly recommend to our friends

Great time, best vacation ever!

Everything is amazing: staff, rooms, pools, beach, restaurants, entertainment, bars... Our room was so clean all the time, excellent staff, they are so friendly and happy, smiling all the time, very honest people, this resort is one of the best I ever seen!

Good resort

Beautiful resort, mostly friendly people, clean, hardworking staff, great bars, great pool, rooms starting to show a little wear and tear, invonsistent maid service, food was great variety but there was a lit of salt, meat and fried food. They fid the best they coukd with the resources the country has. Beautiful restaurants and food there. Shows need work- three were cancelled and a dj brought in which was disappointing. Great Resort

We arrived around midnight and our check-in was painfully slow because there was only one lady working at the counter at the time. This resort is beautiful and the room is average as we did not take the upgrade to level. We were given 6 rooms and some were facing the marina and some were facing the pool. Both have nice views and the property is clean. The marina is nice however there are too many garbage (empty plastic cups and bags) floating around. It would be nice if the managements have some [... read more]one to pick up the waste disposal in the marina. Our maid went an extra miles to make sure our room was comfortable and clean however the water boys only allowed one bottle of water daily and will not give extra even with a note asking for an extra one. We went as a group of 12 people, our ages are from 12 to 60 yr old. We wouldn't rate it as five stars but for sure 4.5 stars. We find the food salty however the fresh juices were excellent. Breakfast buffet was okay, food quality was average. There were only three À la carte restaurants opened at the time of our visit (July 11 to July 18/15). There were Casa Burguete, Bana and Don Ernesto. Snacks bar (Habana) opens 24 hours per day and they serve burgers, fries, sandwiches etc. If you like ketchup it is recommended that you bring your own (we did) as the ketchup over there taste very different. On the other hand our server Yesmany, he was excellent and friendly. He remembers our drinks and we enjoyed chatting with him. There were times we found it was very hard to communicate with hotel staffs due to language barrier. The only problem we had was one of the bartender in the 24 hours lounge. I would say he is Cuban and he will not serve you if you don't have any money in your hand. The others bartenders were friendly. The 24 hours lounge do have live music at every night before the entertaining shows. We did enjoy the entertaining shows and music. We would rate five stars for their entertainment programs. The only downfall was one of the older bartender in the 24 hours lounge will not serve you if you do not have money in your hand. He also told the younger bartender not to serve people without money in their hand in front of other customers. Overall, we had a good time. This resort is clean, safe and friendly (except the older bartender).

Clean & pleasant - Can't complain!

Jiovanni and jasmela in the main buffet gave excellent service (with their serving partners). We stayed in the apartments which was a nice amount of space for my family of 5. My parents stayed in the main hotel which was also a nice room - but possibly a mold smell from the dampness of the A/C. Service was nice in most places we went to on the resort. Latin and French a la carte restaurants were decent. The night shows were entertaining but run until 10:30 or 11pm each evening (late for the kids [... read more]). We would go back if given the chance.

Wonderful stay

Resort, clean comfortable, open airy spaces througout the property, the marina is beautiful, the pool enjoyable, the beach fantastic. Be sure to enjoy the spa. It is elegant inside and I took advantage of a wonderful massage during my stay. Food- fantastic! I'm a plant based eater and there was too much choice! I needed to pace myself each day because of the abundance of fresh foods. My children loved the daily buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also many other restaurant choices on site to [... read more] take advantage of. White glove service, friendly, prompt, mindful service. Staff. Gracious is the word that comes to mind. Safety- Felt completely safe in all areas of the resort. Amenities- pool, spa, restaurants, bars, activites at the beach and pool each day. Entertainment- You must enjoy the shows each night at 9:30 p.m. and the live music in the lobby bar each evening starting at 7 p.m. Check out time is noon and our departure to the airport was not until 6:30 p.m. We were encouraged to make full use of the resort until that time, and were provided a courtesy room for 30 minutes prior to our departure to shower and change after a day at the pool, beach and restaurants.

Excellent resort overall

Newer hotel / resort with very good facilities. The food could be better. Out of 3 restaurants, one is decent (South American) the other 2 (French/Asian) has the form but not the substance. The buffet is ok. Staff is helpful and overall very good

Amazing Resort and Nice people

Our stay at the Melia Marina Varadero was awesome ! I truly loved it ! We have gone to Varadero many times however it was our first time at this hotel and I have to say this place is great ! New hotel! Very good clean rooms. The food was not bad.

Okay

The resort itself is gorgeous. The staff are amazing! Very nice people, they make your stay as comfortable as possible. The only thing was the food wasn't great at all. We did get sick but the staff was amazing at helping us with remedies that helped with vomiting and stomach upset.

Very clean, friendly staff beautiful view

First time to Melia Marina but 10th time to Cuba.Enjoyed the resort very much.Staff were friendly and accomodating..Very clean resort,nice layout.Beautiful beach and pools.Our daughter enyoyed a small pool at marina side very much and ice cream shop.

Very nice

Grounds and facilities very nice. Food is ok. Beach and pools beautiful. Great hospitality. Not a five star but certainly 4 star in my view. No place beats Cuba. Will return for the right price, come and experience for yourself.
