Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Sandos Caracol Eco Resort Spa

The Hotel was Fantastic for the whole family espescially the kids, with all the animals or Flora nad Fauna throughout the whole resort. We always travel as a large family group yearly. The age range this year was from 5 to 90 years old. The children had a ball running and becoming very independent here. For the Seniors however, although the resort is beautiful, it can be quit hard to navigate for them. It is very dark at night and uneven walks, so this limited them as to where and when they wo [... read more]uld go out even to eat The distance and then no elevators was an obsticle for them sometimes, so we had to work really hard to get 1 ground floor level for the one couple or they would have been room bound much of the time. ( I had originally requested for all 4 of our rooms to be together and ground floor which did not happen, and for 30,000 dollars should have!!!!) The one thing that saved this group was to get a wheel chair from the resort. Please understand this resort is great, but you need to be a little more forthcmoing on how the elderly will have a tuffer time with mobility here. The Staff here are wonderful and kind and helpful, which it seems a lot of other people take advantage of this and was hard to ignore. Please be kind to them and other visitors. Oh and the beach is VERY rocky and hard to enter the water. There are much nicer beaches around.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Awesome time

We stayed in the Adult Select section. This entitled us to many perks including ala carte breakfasts, lunches and adult only sections. We loved the jungle vibe of the resort including all the animals and the Eco activities. We enjoyed a romantic boat ride with Jesus who truly is a gem. This is the first time we were not ready to go home after a week and the first resort that we identified that we want to return to. Everyone was friendly from staff to other staying at the resort. Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: good family resort

We enjoyed our stay at the Sandos Coracol eco Resort. There were many included activities : swimming in the cenote, tennis, biking, soccer, kayaking, snorkeling. .. much wildlife to be seen on resort: monkeys, iguanas, turtles, coaties, peacocks,parrots etc.... This resort did not seem over-crowded, we were usually able to find lounge chairs on the beach or by the pool. The food was good, the a la carte restaurants were great and did not require a reservation except for the Japanese restaur [... read more]ant that you must book early in your holiday. Service everywhere was fine, staff are friendly. Our room was good and clean and comfortable. Our room was in the elite section close to the beach and the main pool and had a great view from the balcony ,was worth the extra fee. The beach is not great, the bottom is rocky, though we knew that before going, we brought our beach shoes and made the most of it. We still had fun in the water. Great family resort, the kids loved it!

The Hotel, staff, property, everything was excellent. The beach was a little Rocky but about a five minute walk down was nicer. There was a lot of wild life & plenty to do. My only problem was that a week wasn't enough time!

Sandos Cancun: Stunning

A perfect example of a smaller Luxury Resort. I continue to read a few negative reviews about this resort, I am not sure what could possibly make those people happy. This is an adult orientated resort, you can take kids but there is no entertainment provided for them. Average age of people staying here I would say is 30-60. Check in was quick, rooms are beautiful and bathrooms have a tub and shower. Standard rooms do not have a balcony but the windows open right up. Wine can be ordered through Room Service and is brought up quickly to the room. Food is exceptional from the Breakfast Buffet, Lunch at St Trops overlooking the Ocean and then Supper any place you choose. You only need to make reservations at the Japanese restaurant, which is fantastic, we went twice. The Steakhouse was the only time we waited for a table and it was less than 15 minutes. Resort does not feel over crowded even when completely full. Pools are very pretty in the Sun but as you will read on every review the sun disappears quickly behind the monstrous hotel built right next door. No problem just move down to the beach. We would spend our morning on the beach, move up up the pool and back to the beach when the sun disappeared. Cancun is windy and the water always has plenty of waves to play in. There is no swim up bar, but 2 bars are located either side of the lower pool and staff come by frequently to refresh your drinks. Being a smaller resort helps you become friends with members of staff as well as other guests. Guests come from Brazil, Argentina, USA and Canada to name a few. Entertainment is provided every afternoon around the pool and every evening at one of the bars. These are acts brought in from outside not members of staff. Volleyball on the beach and in the pool daily along with aqua gym and trivia games in the afternoon. A very nice place to spend a week in paradise. This is not a cheap resort but you can still look out for great deals. Well worth the time and effort

Sandos Cancun: Beautiful with minor disappointments

I chose this resort because through email they said that they could accommodate my vegan daughters diet... they really didn't understand the difference between vegan and vegetarian... otherwise, clean, beautiful , relaxing ... more like a 4 star. We didn't get the reception with a rose , cool cloth and drink as others have said... maybe because we didn't check in until 8 pm.... sewer smell in room that they promptly attended to but wasn't fixed until 2nd day... very little alcohol in drinks.. we [... read more] wondered if they were virgin... people reported that plenty of beds at beach but all were saved with early morning towel placements yet most empty for most of the day...smaller resort has its appeal but also means less selection at restaurants.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great Resort

Grounds of the hotel are very natural. The rooms are ok they could be updated. The food was good not great but good. The drinks were great. The service was awesome all the staff was very polite and eager to help. The pools and the water slides were great. The shows were very elaborate. We loved the cenotes and the bird sanctuary. The resident dogs and cats were all very friendly. Many different things to do right in the resort.

Beautiful grounds, beach was very rocky, food was good, resort catered to children. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is not the place. If you are bringing kids, its perfect. We were not even able to use the main pool with swim up bar. Definitely a kid paradise.

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Sandos Playacar was beautiful. My wife and I had a wonderful time.

The grounds from the beautiful sand beach and turquoise ocean to the well designed and pruned gardens surrounding the properties were incredible. Pathways were beautifully lit in the evening and Cozumel sparkled, across the ocean, in the dark night sky. The staff were very attentive and helpful, from arrival to departure. The dining staff were very professional and attentive. Thank you to our waitress at the Asian ala carte for recommending a dessert......heavenly!!!! Thank you to maintenanc [... read more]e, (there were a few small problems with our room), all was taken care of promptly and effectively. We made use of many of the different food venues and found all to be excellent. Coming from Nova Scotia and being a lover of seafood, I must say....I could live there forever and eat nothing but the seafood...it was amazingly prepared by your chefs. Did not always recognize the type of fish but was never disappointed...soooo delicious. Memories: Happy children everywhere. Amazing beach. Fantastic shows Delicious food. Romantic evenings. Whether you are a couple or a family, this resort has it all. We had a great time, and would recommend Sandos Playacar to others.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great hotel

Wonderful place with lots to do. Rooms were spacious & clean. Quite a few kids there though. Food was great at the buffet & a la cartes. Michael Jackson show was great. Staff in the buffet were very hard working and quick. On a negative note, upon checking in, timeshare people waiting behind you. They have Sandoz Caracol shirts on with name tags so you don't realize they are timeshare people until you sit down with them. Another plus would have been to have a mariachi band play somewhere on the [... read more] grounds as we were in Mexico after all. The beach was very rocky so swim shoes were needed. All in all, we were pleased with the resort.

Sandos Cancun: A splendid spot

This resort had a good variety of food (restaurants), great entertainment and very nice hospitality from the staff, not to mention the beautiful pool area and the tourquoise waters on the beach! Also lots to do outside this resort with shopping and nightly entertainment very close by to this resort!

Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Disappointed!!

We are in our 40s with two boys (7 and 4 ½ years old) and we travel at least once a year during the winter to the Caribbean to All Inclusive resorts. We stayed on room 8316 from Sunday Feb 5 to Sunday Feb 12. I would start with the positives: Some members of their team that made our trip more enjoyable - Jorge Ruiz from the Brazilian restaurant: Awesome customer service skills. It made our trip. - Alfonso [... read more], our server at the Brazilian restaurant: he worked with Jorge really hard to put together something different for us. - Monica, from Asiana: after a survey I completed with her she tried to improve our stay at the hotel; booked for us many restaurants and escalated my concerns and complaints to Ingrid (Manager of Guest Services). Thank you for looking after us. - Guadalupe: looked after our room and she was awesome and tried to solve all the issues we had in our room! - Luciano, from the Mexican restaurant: Again, great service and great recommendations - Raquel Avalos Arias, in the main buffet: she looked after us almost every day and her service and attitude toward us was always excellent - There was a pregnant lady (I don’t remember her name) at 8.00 am who was the only one that knew better how to prepare a good espresso at the Cupcake Café. Thank you for allowing me to have a least one good espresso every morning. Best restaurants (food and drinks): 1- Mexican 2- El Gaucho and Il Piemonte 3- La bambola (awesome creppes) 4- Chayita (awesome burritos) 4- El Agave Blue Bar (better service than in most other places) 5- Riviera Blue Worst restaurants (food and drinks): 1- Asiana 2- Le Gourmet 3- Fogo de Janeiro 4- Cupcake Café (coffee was terrible, I believe training was not provided to the baristas and they are the ones suffering the consequences with reviews like this one) 5- Iztapalapa (drinks have been in general the worst I ever had in any resort I have ever been to; watered down, with a lot of sugar or a sweet syrup, lemon juice, awful, even beer in many cases was warm. No complaints to the barman as he was almost the only one service 100 of customers a day, so Kuddos to him but Sandos should allocate more resources to this bar and team) Amenities: Spa and Gym I would consider good and within my expectations. Use the Gym early mornings 3 or 4 times and the spa during the pm 2 times. Kids club: It was good and our kids loved the Lite Teens Club. Nightly Entertainment / shows: We loved most of them and I thank you the entertainment team for all the hard work. Beach was nice with a lot of entertainment. The family pool beside the Riviera Blue was super clean but the one located beside the beach, overcrowded, slippery and not that clean. Rooms: We were on the family area and rooms are way overdue a renovation. The other issue and most important one is that their A/C system is gone and have to be replaced. They now this as they put dehumidifiers in many rooms guests complaint about a smelly and damp room. As a matter of fact, they were replacing A/C units in at last three or four rooms in the first floor of our area. My in laws were on the Adult’s only area and their room looked exactly like ours but worst because their A/C seemed to not work at all. Fridges don’t cool down and need to be replaced. Both my in laws and ours had the same issue. Iron didn’t work and needed to be replaced as well. Management: On the positive side, they reacted to any issue we had on the bad side, it seems to be that they react to problems instead of try to avoid them. The staff from the Members club were annoying, they called our room every day at 8.00 am asking how everything was going trying to sell us a membership to the point I needed to asked and the guest services office that we didn’t want to be bother; next morning, they called again… Finally, first and last impressions I believe matter. The best scotch they have available even in the members club bars were Johnnie Walker Red Label Scotch Whisky or Ballantines (first impression from the bars). We left Sunday evening and they gave us a courtesy room to shower and change in the Adults only area: the room was durty, with only two dry towels and all other towels wet on the batroom floor, really it looked disgusting. (last impression). Would I return? Well, I really feel bad for all the good people that work at the hotel but I believe I would not go back until they upgrade the rooms, and make some changes.

Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos: Did Not Disappoint!

Sandos Los Cabos did not disappoint! We were upgraded to a king room overlooking the harbour. The room was spacious, clean and more than what we expected! The only issue was the nightly entertainment. Our room was over the Cupcake deli and closeby the stage for nightly entertainment...volume was so loud with no indication of decrease that on the fourth night we talked to management. They were quick to respond and the following evening the music was somewhat quieter...Be aware if booking a marina [... read more] room that you will get traffic sounds (sirens) during Friday and Saturday nights and hungry sea lions in the evening hours (1pm and 4pm).Rooms in other areas would have avoided this however we enjoyed the lovely room and spectacular views. Perhaps the entertainment crew can temper the volume. It was unnecessary as the venue was small and intimate. By far the pluses were the staff! I have traveled to many resorts and the people at Sandos were by far the best!! They were warm, welcoming and made you feel valued and comfortable. Any issues were dealt with promptly and politely. Kudos to management! Although we read on line that it was a time share resort, we were not bothered, nor were we treated like "second class citizens". There were a few things we could not access but it was no big deal... Food was also very good....all in all this was a lovely property...even nicer than the room, the property, the amenities, was the staff!! They got it right!

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Great Family Vacation

Nice staff, property, entertainment, and activities. Our family of five had a great time. Kids are 5, 8, 9. Lots of food & beverages selection and restaurants, all was very good. Our air-conditioned room was a large suite for 5 people (one king bed, one comfy single cot, and one horrible double pull-out sofa bed. It was open-concept, including the washroom area so privacy wasn't great for 5 people! A toilet was behind a locked door.) Our room was the furthest from the beach area/main pool  [... read more]so we would walk about 10 minutes to and from 4 times per day (includes trip to change for dinner). Good exercise but our 5 yr old was running out of steam! A nice feature is a fully stocked mini-bar that includes whatever you want in it ie: juice,beer, chips, etc... If you plan on choosing this hotel for the water slides to have fun with your kids, please do your research first and be informed. The mini kids' slides are in a sunken pool so you cannot lounge while supervising your kids, you'll have to go down in the water pit to see them. The medium slides are for medium kids but no adults allowed. Our boys ages 8 & 9 were tall enough for these but not our 5 1/2 yr old. Sad. The large slides were for adults or very tall kids/teens! Meaning that we couldn't all be together in the slides to have fun together as we had originally anticipated. By the way, the largest slides looked dangerous; I was watching 5 descents and 4 of them knotted themselves on the side of the slides at high speed upon arrival at the bottom. In this water park, a self-served juice/pop machine and ice cream machine were available but no bartender and no alcohol service for anyone. No staff there for towel service and no entertainment either. All to say, we spent all of our time at the main pool where we could all be together; each of us having their own kind of beverage and enjoying the music, activities, and entertainment. Loved the nature and cultural aspect of this resort! Lots, lots of animal around of all kinds! Beautiful cenotes and Mayan ruins! The cultural Mayan shows were great! Secured Kids' Club with bracelet ID pick-up only. We barely used it (2 hrs total) but overall the kids were okay with it. The waters are very rocky for swimming and kept more natural with sea weeds coming onto shore. The beach sand was clean, white, and beautiful. We had a wonderful vacation.

This resort is great for families with young kids. There is a lot to do without doing off site excersion. The beach is rocky but the kids love to explore in and around the rock for fish life. The kids club is okay and the night entertainment is outstanding.

It was what we expected for an eco resort. You go to this place if you want the wildlife and plants. The beach was not the best if you want to swim, however a short cab ride to a sister resort where you are all inclusive as well solves that problem. There was no shortage of pools or water slides and I found them well maintained. Food was great although there seemed to be a bacon shortage going on. Check in/check out was probably the worst I've ever encountered on my travels. While the resort amenities are still available during this time, the "securely locked" area for your luggage remains open with non-staff walking in and out of it (or changing in it).

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: So very disappointed with Sandos Caracol Eco Resort and Spa

We paid for Deluxe suite and got a Standard room first night. They would not give us a Deluxe until we showed them our paperwork. Thank God we took it with us. My husband got food poisoning the very first day. We had no hot water, and the toilets would not flush. Not great with food poisoning. Third day our new unit (we moved from Standard to Deluxe) flooded and we had to use towels to stop it from coming right through the unit. Fifth day flooding again, and asked for a room change. They [... read more] were going to move us to our sons building, but our son's unit flooded also and they had black mold coming down the wall. They took the unit we were to get. That unit turned out to have a spider invasion. One spider was the size of a bread plate and took ten minutes to kill. On the eighth day our grandson (1 and 1/2 years old) got really sick and was taken to the doctors. The buildings we stayed in should have been condemned and would have been if we were in Canada. The wood frames on the doors were rotted and covered with what looked like a plastic paint. The tiles were broken and peaces missing in both the rooms. When the kids moved out of their room because of mold, the painters came in and painted it and rented it out that evening. The food was not good and was the same every day. There was only two places worth eating at, and that was the Meditterean and Steak and sea food restaurant in the new area. Honestly this hotel should not be recommended for families. Yes, there are animals, but other than that you are putting them at risk of disease and health issues if you stay in the older area. The only area worth staying at was the Royal Elite, Time Share Area. Sandos is making a lot of money with tourism, surely they could shut the old area down and rebuild it. Highly do not recommend this resort .

As frequent travellers, we would not stay here again, nor recommend it. Sadly, this review is 90% negative. While we hate to sound so negative, we wished we knew this information before we booked this hotel. NO BEACH! NO COFFEE MACHINE. VERY WATERED DOWN DRINKS- NO CORONA. NO SMILES (nor eye contact) WITH MINIMUM SERVICE. NO RESERVATIONS FOR DINNER-but over 1 hour waits for any restaurant outside the average buffet. Only Japanese restaurant required reservations. Despite asking on our fir [... read more]st day, the JAPANESE restaurant was completely booked until 10pm on our departure evening. How can that be? Not great with children, nor when you head to the airport at 11pm. Despite ALL INCLUSIVE, some restaurants, such as the Italian charged EXTRA for wine. That`s not ALL INCLUSIVE!! Best features of this hotel were gazing at the wild and farm animals during short strolls. Wild monkeys would trek upon our balcony, delighting our youngsters. Peacocks would be grazing outside our door. Lots of roaming cats, which we hope have been sterilized and do not spread fleas. Lots of space in our hotel room, with 2 closets & room safe, walk-in shower with shampoo and bodywash, but NO coffee machine. Hair dryer has little heat and takes 1 hr to dry hair. We were not too sure what the `warm` water machine was for, as it did not produce cold water, nor were there any teas/coffees to make anything with it. There are no information booklets in the room (Yes, they aim to avoid waste, however a vinyl-bound directory would last for years) & the hotel channel showcased things that really don`t exist, such as tours in the mangrove, beach play. You needed to find someone who could speak English to explain to you that they had ONE tour in the week-but only for adults. We came to explore with our children. Kinda defeats the purpose. There was what looked, from the exterior, like a great playroom. Upon entry, there was only 1 girl and a ballpit. Some activities, such as pizza party were listed, but why would you wish to dump your child into such a boring environment. There was no party, nor festive atmosphere. We expect that a playroom has well-supervised children with many staff members to provide a safe environment. This did not appear to be the case. Definitely not a well-thought out children`s program. If there was an emergency, how could 1 person manage the situation safely? (Yes, I work with children, so these potential hazards are ingrained in my brain). Also, our room calls to the reception often went unanswered. There were no signs posted to tell newcomers what restaurant hours were. Also, staff at the restaurant desk could not speak English, nor answer questions about the restaurant services (such as which restaurants charge a supplement for wine!). Restaurants are advertised as NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED, however wait times could be over 1 hour long. With children, mosquitoes, and lots of rain with no place to actually wait for most restaurants. Twice, despite our being first in line, a Mexican family would walk up and be seated before us. At first, we thought that could not possibly be true, however when it happened again without justification, we felt very insulted. We would not treat others like that. A classy hotel should not do that either. There were some interesting holiday decorations up and about to appreciate, however the Santa that made his walk about (or race about) the pool was disheveled and did not interact at all with the children. We understand it's warm to wear a costume, but these children were expecting some quality time with Santa. They waited all year to see him, plus when they got to the top of the photo & gift line, Santa went on break. It was very sad to watch. The hotel grounds offered Mayan Ruins to explore, however an unkept pile of rocks down a walking path does not make a memorable trek. There were no staff members available to discuss what was there, although 1 walking tour was available during the week. More hours should have been available to accommodate clients on every day of the week. Travellers were wandering around looking for what was advertised and there really was nothing to see, except mosquitoes. One gentleman experienced a huge rash reaction to their offered mosquito repellent. He worked in the medical field and strongly recommended avoiding using the product, especially on our children. Hmm... We`ve been to all sorts of different hotels with different levels of accommodations. Even when there were not many amenities, a friendly service would more than accommodate our minimal expectations. However, service at this hotel was really UNDERWHELMING. Our bracelets fell off 3 times and we were told they were going to charge us 100$US for each for security reasons. Oh, no! Some firm words rectified that, however it almost happened! Guest Services has an area in the lobby with 3 staff members sitting at their desks. When approached for help, you are quickly told to go to the front desk, which results in a 1-hr wait-time to change a bracelet each day. No one smiled and welcomed us. No one smiled at the restaurants. Not a busboy. Not a waiter. No one. The shows were cramped and only 1 showing during supper hour. People would literally come and stand right in front of the young children and block their view. We cannot teach kindness and respect to all of the customers, however there were no staff members to control the crowds. An usher at the top of the stairs, as in most hotels and cruises, could politely escort customers to the best available viewing areas or control the crowd more efficiently. People were so pushy during a regular show that we truly thought if there was a sudden emergency, children would get trampled. Sad thought, but that`s the hotel`s responsibility to provide a safe environment all over. The only friendly staff were the photographers. Of course, at 20USD for one picture, you can imagine that this department brings in a lot of revenue for the hotel. They often walked around with mascots to take pictures or were available near the beach chairs to take pictures. Overall, the SunWing Tour operators were polite, but not very outgoing. Tours were super expensive, which is not the hotel`s fault. There were always additional costs for food, picture packages. For a family of 4, it was over 1000$ to have the basic dolphin tour with photos! Imagine, you are not allowed to bring your own cameras, so you want your kids to have a memory, but photo packages start at 250USD to 380USD. Shocking. Our tour operator told us that a normal day at Xcaret would see 2-3000 customers. During the Christmas week, they had between 12-13000!! Obviously, there were no safety quotas to follow and long lines to even get in. Yes, that calm snorkel through the caves that was advertised was literally a horror for our children who were being pushed under the water and against the cave walls by the shoulder to shoulder swimmers. It was a nightmare. Our 7-year old ended up clinging onto her father`s back. Forget using the automatic cameras that cost over 100USD, as the waves of people would just naturally force you out of the way. We skipped the other 2 routes because of this safety issue. We saw 1 lifeguard and no other staff members. Obviously, no safety quotas were respected. At 200USDpp (only 1 meal, no drinks), this was insane. Really disappointing, as this was the inspiration to book this trip. One family tried to cancel a tour, because their child had food poisoning and could not even leave the room. They were told to pay for a doctor to get a medical note or they could not refund NOR RESCHEDULE their tour. The poor mother was crying and there was no empathy whatsoever to accommodate this family. Most shocking was the absolute lack of any accessible beach. Sandbags provide little support to keep the algae off the beach. Their site explains that the beach is cleaned each day, which appeared highly unlikely. We did not see any improvements throughout the week. Only 1 person out of 4 braved putting their toes in the ocean. What did they see? More algae! We thought we could try to make the best of it at the waterslides. The children`s slides would close down from 12-pm and shut down for the night at 5pm, although still filled with kids. The bigger waterslides were only operational twice during our stay, with the motors not working. We always heard ...maybe tomorrow. When it was open, our daughter was not allowed to go, however smaller children continued to walk by and were allowed. Safety height measures are very flexible depending on who is working The children`s pool had dirty water. We could not see the bottom. This area was completely understaffed with only 1-2 lifeguards positioned at the top of the waterslides.
