I found the staff very conscientious and happy. The rooms were quite nice and kept very clean. As per usual the beach was beautiful and the pools very clean. My disappointment was with the food. It wasn’t that there was a lack of variety but that it was poorly prepared. To see so much food being thrown away because of lack of knowledge in the proper preparation was sad. The International restaurant seemed to do the best job and the grill stations were also good. Roast pork leg at the Beach gri[... read more]ll was excellent. The smoked salmon and fresh papaya at breakfast was also very nice. They have a different way of checking in which went really fast for everyone. When you get off the bus you leave your luggage and go into a big room, then they take your passports to verify. They call your name to come and pick up your package with keys etc. And you are shuttled to your room all very quickly. Over all I would go back. It would be nice if they took a few lessons from Jamie Oliver’s five ingredient meals😜😜😜

Melia Jardines del Rey: ups and downs and a few tips
This review is my opinion only....getting our keys on arrival was a breeze and our room was already done (depending on your arrival time ) I had asked for a closer unit as for my mobility and they honoured it with the first unit near the lobby...the complex is fairly large Our room was great and cleaned nicely everyday ( shower only no tub )Replenishing the fridge was a constant hassle ( Dear MANAGER there are many reviews with this problem can you not fix it ? ) after a few nights we just didn'[... read more]t bother with it anymore.Since we upgraded we had our beach towels in the room and there is a problem with exchanging them as they run out quickly. The chair game is always there so you need to play it.The food is up and down line ups are huge (TIP ) breakfast go upon opening lunch and supper go at least a half an hour later to avoid the rush i found that cooking stations are the best bet .Pool are good no complaints The beach ( Wow ) walk right 1/4 mile and your in heaven we loved it when it was not windy but unfortunately we had a terrible week weather wise Bring bug spray as the mosquitos are out dusk and dawn like the vampires ;-) and for you ladies wear covering clothes as they are aggressive I found drinks are better made in the little alcove bar with the lights around it The entertainment is good and the staff is great didn't have any problems . Money changing is no problem There is a small market there or you can take a trolley to a small mall for goods.I bought all mine at the airport Overall i would rate this hotel a 3.9 Would i go back Maybe

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Not a 5 star
After having to change rooms due to a bad knee had a nice room looking a little tired...some of the staff were wonderful but others just worked if you tipped...the food was the worst...cheap alcohol & each bar had different drinks definately not consistent....this resort should not be rated as a5 star....I think the pics were deceiving....to end this vacation never going back to Cuba

Hotel Playa Coco: January Getaway
We went to this hotel January 25. No air conditioning for three days. Then no hot water. At this point we spoke to our Air Canada rep who was amazing and sent us that day to another hotel on Cayo Coco. Thank God for Air Canada Reps Manuel and Jose both excellent at what they do! Still construction going on at the beach eye sore for sure. Newly painted and decorated rooms are okay if you get one where everything works! Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Great resort
Had a great time at this resort. Staff and hotel were nice.
Only problem I had was a hamburger at the Snack Bar ( next to the pool). It was cooked on the outside and raw in the middle. Was sick for a full day . Heard from 3 other people who got sick for the same reason , same Snack Bar.
Maybe someone should let them know.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: mixed reviews
I have given this resort 2 stars...and I struggled to find enough positives to outweigh the massive negative.
We stayed at Memories Caribe for a week. This was a birthday gift to me from my wife. We have stayed in Cuba a couple of times, but closer to Varadaro. This was our first time to Cayo Coco. Considering that the resort was still recovering from hurricane Irma, the grounds were in pretty good condition. Our room was fine, the bed comfortable - but I really do not like the no bathroo[... read more]m door idea.
I have traveled extensively, and I have never slammed a resort for for the food it offers. I do not expect North American 5 star food in Cuba, and in our trips their we have never been disappointed with the food....until now. The food offered was horrible. It was made worse by the complete disregard for basic food safety - I asked for a burger one night from the hot line, where the cook had burgers, chicken and some other meats. The burger was burnt on the outside and blue rare on the inside, but the fact that he used the tongs from the raw chicken to pick up the bun was a bit much. Every morning there were scrambled eggs that could be eaten with a straw. The freshly made french toast was uncooked in the center, so you were eating raw egg and bread. And...when a large percentage of your guests are Canadian, why no bacon for 6 of the 7 days? By the 3rd day we were basically living on fresh fruit and pastries. We did take a chance on the snack bar at the pool and were pleasantly surprised by how good it was. However, that does not make up for the lack of proper meals.
The staff must be complimented. We had a young lady look after us at the buffet - her name started with a "d" and I cannot remember her full name ! She was amazing, super friendly, always smiling and efficient. The grounds keepers were probably the friendliest of the staff - always saying hello, always smiling.
I asked at the front desk for the General Manager's business card or email address, and was told that the GM had no cards and they didn't have an email address for him / her. I would love to talk to the GM about the issues we faced.
Overall, I would not recommend this resort due to the lack of food safety. It's just not worth spending the money to get sick because of cross contamination and improperly cooked products.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Relaxing resort on a beautiful, undeveloped beach.
I would recommend this resort to anyone wanting a quiet getaway. It's a relatively new construction so all structures - buildings, pools etc - are in good repair. Since the hurricane, some rooms have brand new balcony roofs while others, ours included, had none. No big deal. No room issues; bed, television with movie channels, coffee machine, fridge, clean and functional bathroom (we had no hot water 1 morning out of 12 days), fresh towels, good a/c. Food and drinks were plentiful; managed to ov[... read more]ercome no champagne for 2 days. Lots of bars and serving stations per person, an occasional lineup (fresh breakfast omelet and pizza) but mostly avoidable. Service was very good; from rooms, to food, bars and beach. Something not always seen in Cuba, they even tell line cutters where to go (politely). They return politeness ten fold. Lots of beach chairs, beach towels, fun evening shows. The beach is fantastic and not overdeveloped. Three resorts on a stretch that would have 12 or more in Varadero. Except for Lennie's Lobster Shack (exceptional, highly recommended), the cigar store (good variety and prices) at the small tourist market, there isn't much to offer other than horse rides, mopeds and boat rentals, so this relaxing resort is not for someone looking for a wild time.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Pretty good resort
Our second trip. The things most liked are the beach and the walk in pool. My wife needs a walker, so my wife needs easy access to all amenities. The room (704) is very poor, broken furniture, and the bathroom is very poor, chipped bath and all. The beds were ok.All rooms should have a walk in shower, my wife could no climb into the bath.
The most horrible thing was the stagnant water by the walkway to the resteraunt. We were assured on our last visit that would be fixed, but it is still the sa[... read more]me.Forthis reason, we will not be recommending your resort to anyone.

This hotel offers a variety of activities for all ages , great lobby , lots of music and talented musicians, pools for all ages, beautiful beach, the buffet seemed repetitive but I could always find something to eat.
Lots of walking but there is carts available if you want to ride, staff very nice, they work very hard to please people.
A la carte restaurants very good, internet available in the lobby and around the pools and snack bar.

Melia Jardines del Rey: Would not recommend
The first day we didn’t have towels. Anytime we wanted a bottle of water we had to ask 2-3 times, they said they would send the water to our room but it never came. The pool was very dirty. The last day our maid stole my apple headphones, and after spending most of our last morning in customer service they did nothing about it. I left the resort with over 30 mosquito bites. The rooms were overall nice and clean and 9/10 of the staff were amazing. Good night time entertainment, not much throug[... read more]h the day. Overall The resort was over priced

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Quiet Resort
The resort was popular among seniors, but going as young single females it was not the party scene we were looking for. Bars close at 11pm, and there is no disco even though the map and web site says it does. Alot of reconstruction and renovations due to the hurricane. Good points were the staff, they were extremely friendly and helpful. The beach was absolutely stunning and warm. It's a good resort for a quiet vacation but for those looking for a party, warn you to go elsewhere.
Beautiful spot, very friendly staff, clean, great food - we won’t bother with the priority upgrade when we go back because we didn’t get our welcome cocktail, or priority check-in, or a bottle of Havana club in our room, or ocean view, all as promised. Also the priority pool seats were too much in the shade, and the priority beach seats were along a treacherous stretch of rocky water - couldn’t even walk into the water without walking 75 feet down the beach first. However, these were all l[... read more]ittle thing we paid extra for, and now we know we can enjoy this lovely spot without having to bother with that.

Our stay at this hotel was amazing. We did have a few minor problems with our room when we arrived but once that was sorted out it was awesome. The staff were great and so much fun. The family gathered there from across Canada, we celebrated a birthday all while having a great time. If only they had a direct line to the sun :) I would certainly go back.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Surprisingly okay after hurricane
First let me say cuba had a hurricane hit only 3 months ago. They have done remarkable things to get open so quickly.
It was a typical Cuban vacation on the most part. Cuba always does things 90 percent when it comes to construction. Paint slopped over and grout not perfect etc but that just what makes cuba.
This resort had alot of water issues sometimes water pressure sometimes hot water. But they just had a hurricane pass and are trying to fix it as problems arise. It's not perfect but w[... read more]e always had a shower. The buildings may have issues in the future with mold due to quick work to fix things.
The washrooms needed severe help. Constant needed cleaning as people kept flushing paper and other products down the toilet clogging them and backing up.
The bright side food choices were good and never went hungry. The staff are always amazing and helpful with knowledge about the city of moron.
However everyone i know had diarrhea for several or more days. Not full on sick and throwing up from water but diarrhea.
I had An enjoyable vacation for the most part
