Riu Ocho Rios: we have seen better

This our third time staying at a Riu Resort but was NOT the best, from the start there was no one to welcome our group of 12 at 10 pm, we had to look for the restaurant ourselves, room was smelly we had to change the next morning, sheets and towels didn't smell fresh, Food all through the week was repeated every single day. I was looking for information for my daughter's destination wedding next year and all I got was a brochure an [... read more]d online Riu site to get information.. we have stayed at Riu Bambu and Riu Palace Bavaro in Punta Cana.. we paid less for much more better service than this one. we stayed in building 1 and 2 the closest restaurant was open close to building 3 so we had to walk a long way to get a snack during the morning.. I addressed all the issues with the manger and didn't get the feel that he cares. As there was not enough guests in the resort to open another restaurant. I suggested only opening one fridge with some sandwiches and fruits that's all. other than the amazing beach, everything else was not as I was expecting. I would give it a 2 stars experience, will not go there again..

Riu Palace Antillas: Riu Palace Antillas

Not a 5 star resort. The hallway was very dingy, and the rooms bathroom in the room was quite dirty. The room itself was OK, but outdated. The restaurants were great, the lobby and main areas were very nice. We were honeymooners and were promised a welcome gift which we never did receive.

Riu Palace Peninsula: Wonderful!

The Riu Palace Peninsula was a lovely hotel. Excellent service, delicious variety of food, several pools to choose from, the beach was lovely with soft sand, premium liquors. Our jacuzzi suite was just beautiful with an incredible ocean view and was always kept spotless. Overall, a lovely relaxing honeymoon and just what we would would expect from a Riu Palace!

Riu Tequila: Great Resort

This resort was one of the better Riu resorts that I have been to. My main complaint with most resorts is the food but I have no complaints just praises for the Tequila. I am a very fussy eater with a sensitive tummy but I had no trouble finding foods that I not only liked but enjoyed. We did go to the beach everyday because the pool water was like a warm bath & not refreshing at all. The beach was beautiful & the walk or short ride was not a problem. This needs to be addressed as it can be very annoying & that is not what vacations are all about. The rooms were dated & a bit musty smelling. There rooms & resort in general were well attended too & clean. Bed & pillows were comfortable. All in all a perfect spot.

Riu Santa Fe: First time, not the last!

Riu Los Cabos is one of the places ive been to where I could say I was treated as a royalty. From different areas such as their bars and restaurant to all the people behind the scenes in the resort whether it be a server or a housekeeper, it made me feel I was welcomed and they want me to stay. Ive seen a lot of smiles from the staff and the tourists as well. The Nexus group made my stay worthwhile as they told us almost eveything about Cabo. Riu Playa Blanca: Beautiful Resort

This was a well maintained resort with very good service and food. However, I felt that it was geared for accommodating families and children and not adults. Their guest communication requires some more work as activities and changes to their restaurant schedules were not well communicated with me. The entertainment requires also some work, as they used the same band and entertainers every night and it became boring after three nights.

Riu Palace Paradise Island: VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!

I am going to start off by saying our trip advisor Beth Mckinley did not do her job properly and we feel as if after we decided to pay for the trip and she was compensated she did not have any interest in making sure our trip went well or answering any questions, other than directing to links where I had to search for the information myself. I had asked her to apply the trip insurance multiple times and Beth kept saying she would contact me and never did and then said we can just go into the  [... read more]trip advisor place or call in ourselves to get the trip insurance added on, I ended up calling CAA to use them and was quite disturbed at the lack of customer service. On top of Beth not caring to help us out after we had paid for the trip she had forgot to mention that there would be a shuttle picking us up from the airport so we ended up taking a taxi that cost us $45 instead of a FREE shuttle ride, she also forgot to mention that the resort gourmet restaurants require you to wear long pants, this was a crucial detail that most trip advisors tell you about and because of this we had trouble going to those gourmet restaurants and had to wear workers pants that the hotel provided us with. We were also informed by our trip advisor that this place spoils you on your honeymoon and that she had called ahead of time to make sure they were aware that we would be going on our honeymoon, NOTHING happened through the entire trip we were treated like any other guest! We were also informed by our trip advisor that this place was brand new within 5 years and was a really nice hotel, which is also not true at all! On top of our trip advisor severely lacking customer service skills and showing that she cared at all for her clients, when we arrived at the hotel our first room we got smelled like disgusting routing mold and mildew! It smelled so bad that we started feeling sick from the smell and had to ask to be transferred to another room. Instead of the hotel being accommodating and giving us a better room we got a smaller room that still had a bit of smell but not as bad which was also very disapointing! This was just the beginning of our trip! After being told by a restaurant that I had to wear pants and because i did not bring any i had to wear their workers pants, we went to the Japenese restaurant there 2 nights after and saw another man wearing shorts. I did not think anything of it as I saw him leave and thought he was asked to get pants on and then he came back with shorts on. Then I proceeded to ask the doorman why he was allowed and I was not and was told that because they did not have the proper size pants (my pants were also 4 sizes too big), I was told by the doormen that it was up to him to use his discretion as to who is let into the restaurant. The worst part of all this is when we went and expressed our problems with the front desk very little was done to show their concern and make up for the lack of service, it was almost as if they did not care at all. Some of the staff was friendly but a lot of them seemed very miserable especially when asking for certain drinks that they don't like making like mojitos or long island ice teas, the drinks were also very inconsistent. The only things that I can say that were positive are the beaches being well kept and the food being good for the most part, a lot of nights the main buffet seemed to be the same, except the last night they had a Mexican theme that was very tasty. For what we paid it is definitely not worth the money, we would be interested in going back after they have completely finished the renovations at the riu so there is no longer any mold and mildew smell but we would not pay what we paid again as it is not worth the money. Atlantis is looking like the better option and we will be booking through another travel agency unless this is reconciled with proper compensation for the poor customer service and practically ruining our honeymoon!

Riu Tequila: Great resort

The resort was very charming beautiful not too big not too small beautiful settings very nice resort The food was excellent and the service was nice the resort itself was very Mexican architecture which made the resort looks very nice compared to some of the resorts that we were visiting nearby they were newer but didn't have the Mexican so my reckoning mandation would be would go back excellent resort

Riu Palace Bavaro: Amazing beach holiday

The hotel is great, rooms are well kept and nightly entertainment is fantastic. Some nights restaurants were closed without explanation. There were no reservations of the restaurants that were open so you show up and take your chances. This is s very poor arrangement. As a long time RIU member I prefer reservations.

Riu Palace Antillas: Amazing Hotel

Hotel was amazing. Grounds was well kept Staff was amazing. Room size was great. but we didn't care for the view (overlooking parking lot, noisy) Food was good. Enjoyed the variety of restaurants. Good location

Riu Ocho Rios: Not impressed

The rooms were outdated, specifically the washrooms. The grounds were not well kept. For example; dirty dishes and glasses would be left on the pool deck for days with staff walking past it multiple times per day and not cleaning it. Bar and grounds staff were rude and would make fun of guests behind their backs after they left the bar. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. Some were rude and most seemed bothered when being asked for Something. Entertainment was cheesy and seemed thrown together without much effort. The worst part of it all was the food. Fresh fruit was extremely hard to come by. Most days, we found canned fruit such as pineapples and peaches, ant that was it. Which is unacceptable for the amount of money we paid to be at the resort. The "fine dining" restaurants were FAR from fine dining. Two of the 5 fine dining restaurants were buffets... Which is tacky and defeats the purpose of having to book a reservation. Not to mention that it took about 10-20 minutes to get a glass of water after having asked for it. There was NO room service, and we got yelled at by staff and embarrassed in front of many people for trying to bring food to our room. We found this extremely absurd considering they did not offer room service. Would have rather stayed home. Extremely upset that I wasted my money on this trip. Would absolutely not reccommend to anyone, and I hope that the resort management takes these comments into serious consideration.

Riu Ocho Rios: Resort needs TLC

the grounds were fairly clean. The pool need to be cleaned badly. The food was not very good and the fine dining was awful. The room were fair There was a shortage of towels. Water pressure was poor. Staff was not very hospitable There was a shortage of food on the day trip to Dunns river. Overall, we would NOT go back. NOT VERY would NOT WANT TO GO TO ANOTHER RIU. this is the second Bad experience with Riu Two years in a row. HAPPY!!! Riu Montego Bay: Paradise resort

Excellent hospitality from staff and fine dining , well kept room, view was excellent especially the ocean front security was excellent and friendly staff , the touring was excellent and remember to say yea man and no problem, also was very close to the airport !

Riu Flamingos: Never disappoints

This was my 3rd visit to the RIU Jalisco and I hope to go again. Fabulous drinks, food & service Great fun playing in the waves Beautiful beach with amazing scenery all around Always friendly staff and Beach Vendors

Riu Merengue: Good Resort for the value

The best part was the staff, the hotel itself needs some upgrades and the food could be better; however, our experience was fantastic, the beach and the pools were great!!! Very clean, organized and people really make an effort to serve you the best they can.

Riu Palace Aruba: Wonderful honeymoon

My husband and I loved this resort for our honeymoon! Spectacular scenery and incredible food. Buffet was always fully stocked with delicious fresh food. We had a great room that the cleaning service took excellent care of. The staff was very kind and helpful. We will definitely be coming back!

Riu Vallarta: Amazing Resort

Everything is perfect :) We got a free upgrade to Riu palace which was amazing. There was a lot of activities for the kids to do such as water polo, volley on the beach or in the pool and a sports bar with pool tables and air hockey. The rooms were nice and spacious with plenty of room to store your belongings with out getting in the way. The lobby is well designed and very beautiful looking with lots of tall palm trees and lush gardens. The beach was beautiful with the plenty of lounge chairs  [... read more]and nice sand that feels great on your feet. the only problem was that the water was too rough for you to relax and wade around in but my kids loved the big waves to boogie board on.the food was amazing with a wide variety to choose from and at night there is a wonderful show that varies from talented singers to funny acts.all in all the trip was amazing and i definitely would go again.

Riu Negril: Amazing resort

Everyone was friendly and helpful. The rooms were beauiful and spaceous. The public areas were clean at all times. The restaurants we delicious. Large resort but everything felt central. Felt right at home : ) Going back next year.

Riu Palace Pacifico: Fantastic resort, loved every aspect!!!

Best and quickest checking ever!!! - we got an orientation on the bus, got our Checkin envelopes, room and towel cards, maps etc at check...along with a drink. - gave our room number to the bell boy, who delivered our luggage in 15 mins...fast! Buffet food was extensive, tasty and very good. A la carts were very good also.
