Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Had a great time!

Let me start off by saying the restaurants were amazing. The Mexican, Brazilian, and Gourmet were all delicious. The grounds were kept clean. The rooms were average. The service was great. No swim up bar or lobby bar. It was difficult to get a hut around the pool unless you woke up very early. He disco was fun at night. Overall had a good time.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Best In Puerto Plata

Wow what a resort, from the bartenders, restaurant staff, cleaning staff, house keeping staff, bellmen and last but least the front desk, as far as I'm concerned this hotel is the prime example of what customer service should be. I had a Jr. suite with partial ocean view, it was huge 2 bathrooms, living room, and separate bedroom with a king size bed, 2 televisions, coffeemaker, ironing and board and a microwave. Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: utopica

This resort did every thing well. The service was excellent, all meals were excellent, the staff set the bar high. the rooms were clean with no issues, the internet worked, the beach was amazing, the gym was excellent, the pool was clean. Lots of lounge chairs at the pool and on the beach. Lots of shade on the beach if needed.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: It took awhile..but it got better!!

Resort is large and built on a hill plenty of steps.....grounds are very clean. Although a large resort never seems to be crowed. Stayed in NON VIP section thru AirTransat Vacations. Had problems with no warm/hot watyer for part of stay...never replenished bar fridge..noisey at times..not enough umbrella/tiki hut around upper pools.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Excellant Value

Great hotel. Beautiful beach and pool area with lots of shade. The Japanese and Brazilian theme restaurants were excellent. Did not try the Mexican since two separate people we met said they were disappointed with it. Food was good especially the fish and chicken. Beef and pork were adequate but not outstanding. Staff very friendly and not always soliciting tips.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Lovely Resort.

The hotel was very nice, the people were amazing always smiling trying to make our vacation great,they couldn't do enough for us. The only thing was it was so far away from anything.I would go back again and yes I would recommend it to my friends.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Subpar

Old but pretty, only one key per room, am have to wake at 7 to sign up for a la cartes, terrible beach & HORRIBLE customer service. Reception staff lied to us and were overall rude & lazy. Great pool.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Excellent Beach access and good food/service

This resort offers up excellent quality for the money. While the rooms are fairly basis they are clean and comfortable. The beachfront offers a $1M view and the staff service is always cheerful & timely

Sunscape Puerto Plata: GREAT RESORT WELL SETUP

It was a last minute decision to visit this resort. Grounds, pools, food, beach, staff, public places all awesome.for us, the rooms were dated but if you spend much time in them, you are not on vacation. sunshine :) Tks;Tripcentral

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Amazing Resort

Very clean, good food, staff were very nice. Loved my room view of the pool and ocean Specialty Restaurants awesome Octopus one was great. Would go back for sure. Mixed age group Good for families and older people. No disco so if your looking for night life after midnight not the place to go. Close to the airport so you don't have a long drive to get there after travelling.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: good resort!

Pretty good resort! Entertainment its great, food gets boring, restaurants are average. The beach seems to be nice. Lots of people and lots of chairs. Be sure to wake up early to get a spot at the pool, people tend to place there "towel" on chairs to save them as early as 6 am

Paradise Playa Dorada: Best Week Ever

I went with a bunch of friends (university students) for February reading week and it was a blast! It was a great place to go to meet other young people (though there were also families and retired individuals around as well). The food was delicious (especially the fried chicken)! The drinks were also well made and very strong. The beach was beautiful (I noticed walking down to other resorts they had more stuff washing up on their beach). The resort had a great atmosphere and I would definitely recommend it to university students looking for a fun place to go!

Paradise Playa Dorada: Fun Times

The resort is a great place for university students to go to. The food was great, drinks were strong, and there were a ton of other university students there during the February reading week. The workers at the hotel were all super friendly and made an effort to get to know your name and give you a high five when they saw you. They also went out of their way to provide great service. Overall, I had a blast with my group of friends and made a ton of new friends as well!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Good Value for the money

Nice gardens, similar to other Bahia Principe hotels I've stayed at. Nice long beach, due to the layout of the complex. Instead of the buildings running from the beach to deep inland, it is spread out widely along the shore with only 4 or 5 bungalows deep.The beach is longer than it is wide, with lounges spread from one end of the complex to the other. But the water is murky (probably due to the wave breakers they have in place). Food was great and the Mediterranean restaurant was amazing! Servi [... read more]ce can be a little slow if you are not sitting in the right area at the buffet. The only downer is the long ride to the airport. It is well over an hour to the Puerto Plata airport and about and hour and 45 minutes to the Samana airport.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Wonderful - IF you stay on the resort

Barcelo Puerto Plata was a beautifully clean, well managed resort. The rooms were clean and large. Mini bar really means pop and water, but if you wanted alcohol it was never very far away. Live entertainment every night was fun and entertaining. The 2 pools closed at 6:00 pm would have been nice to go for a evening dip but we understood about the safety factor. We were Never informed that the Barceló was on a "Public Beach" and the hotel security had no jurisdiction to chase them away. I suffered overwhelming panic attacks after the first 2 days of even venturing onto the beach in fear of being bombarded with requests to buy things. To please help them to feed their families. I would recommend the hotel to a friend but only after I warned them about the beach and the people there waiting for them.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Fabulous stay at Casa Marina Reef Resort!!!

I just got back on Thurs from Sosua, had an awesome time at the Casa Marina Resort. I would totally recommend this resort to others. It is definitely a 3.5 star and for the price its a great place to go and chill and catch some rays. Everyone was so friendly ....except a couple people I ran into but I guess that is everywhere you go. From Jose down at the bar to Lea the animation staff ....everyone made my vacation wonderful. I stayed on the reef side and I had thought I read that those were the updated rooms, but if they were updated then I'd hate to see how bad the rooms on the beach side are. Well it is in fact true these rooms need an update but they are livable and cleanish. I had emailed ahead and requested a fridge and to be on the second floor and I was pleasantly accommodated. I did have a hair dryer in my room but I heard some rooms didn't get one, I'm sure if you just ask they will gladly help you out with that. I also did have an issue with my door card working or not working with my air conditioner and lights, it would shut off randomly and then I could not get it too come back on for awhile. So for two days I showered by flashlight from my phone, haha I could have gone and talked to them but I really wasn't too concerned. Was kinda funny actually. If others have this problem, probably just go talk to them. The food was good, I am a picky eater at times but I always managed to find something to fill my tummy. No complaints there. Drinks...Goood. Beach/pool and the "not" tubs were great. Had no trouble finding a comfy place to chill. I mostly spent my time down at the last not tub overlooking the public beach. The grounds are well looked after and everything is quite beautiful. The resort is located right in Sosua so if you're one that likes to venture off and explore on your own then it's quite easy and safe. I went once but mostly stuck to the resort just because of my personal preference. The area is absolutely breathtaking and I managed to get many many beautiful pictures of the sunset. I would totally go back to this resort because for the cheap price and for what you get it's a great vacation. I think my only real complaint is the front desk. They were not very good at communicating what they wanted us to do. Also I think instead of charging our credit card....once for a lock and then once for the WIFI they should just ask if we are wanting a lock for the safe and WIFI and make it one transaction. When I checked in I could have sworn they charged my card for the WIFI but unfortunately I had no proof(may have misplaced my slip or I remembered wrong) so then at the end of my stay they charged me for what I thought was the second time for WIFI. Just poor communication is all. Well it is what it is and if that was my only issue for my one week stay I say that is great. Please everyone check out this resort! I can't say enough great things about it! If you want a 5 star ...go to a 5 star.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great getaway

My wife and I just returned from the Barcelo Puerto Plata resort. Buildings and grounds were kept up well. Plenty of restaurants and nice buffet. Didn't care too much for the Japanese restaurant but probably went expecting what we get in Toronto, which it wasn't. We upgraded to a Club Premium suite in building 16 which "made" the trip. Highly recommend the upgrade although probably wouldn't book the suite next time, just a Club Premium room -didn't use the extra rooms much. Sunscape Puerto Plata: beautiful resort

The place is beautiful,rooms are specious,furniture and bathroom are very old,need renovating . Small things were frustrating,like TV remote control and clock not working. Everywhere was very clean. Service in the restaurant was not very good. Sometimes you have to wait more than 15 min for coffee,or for the table to be set,despite of many weitres moving around. All in all it was OK for the price we paid.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Loved the beach

I had problems with the pool towels that made for difficulties as others grabbed any left on chairs. I did not like the schedules for dining. Food was satisfactory. Entertainment was amateur at best. I left for other activities

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Perfect winter getaway!

Grand Bahia Principe San Juan was the only resort for miles, which made for a nice quiet relaxing family vacation. Our family of five stayed in a "suite" which was basically two rooms with the wall cut out. We had 2 televisions, 2 full functioning washrooms (great with 3 children) and plenty of room for night time sleep arrangements. The resort was very secure and I had no fear of my children going around the resort on their own (girls aged 7 and 9). The beach was a little rough due to the high  [... read more]waves, but great for grabbing a good book and a lounge chair under a shaded palm tree. 3 pools offered activities at the main pool and 2 quieter pools for the quieter groups (infant was able to sleep on the lounge chairs for nap time). Staff were amazing friendly with the children and always willing to help with anything. Rooms and grounds were nice and clean. The a-la-carte restaurants were decent. Although the Asian food may have been a little off, 'causing a few of us to get stomach aches. Aside from that one restaurant, the food was superb. Great selection and prepared really nicely. Good variety of entertainment every night. And the range of day trips offered from the resort were awesome. Took a family day trip on the Lagoona Jeep Safari and was a great experience for our children (ages 2, 7, 9). I'd recommend this place for a fun family winter getaway. The weather is nice and predictably warm with high 20's, low 30's daily. When it did rain, it didn't rain for long and the sun was shining again. Flights were a bit of a different story. We had our return flight home changed several times and therefore had to leave resort earlier than anticipated. Communication to lobby for guests was not clear and had several of us awaiting 1.5 hours for ride to airport. Flight stopped over in Punta Cana which wasn't planned on original flight and made our flight longer by 2 hours. Not an easy task with three children and an infant that had problems with her ears.
