Grand Riviera Princess: Overall I give this a 4 Star review, however there were some issues thus please read my review!
Some things here were great and some not so great.
The resort is humongous. My wife has a bit of a bum knee thus couldn't walk to the beach or the far pool where most of the activities were every day. Thankfully they have a trolly that runs up and down the length of the resort that will give you a lift! It takes roughly a five minute wait for it to get to you, however the drivers of the trolly, they ROCK. I give them five stars all day long. Very nice people.
Upon entry to the resort afte[... read more]r check in however, they have someone bring you to a desk to explain about the resort. We were exhausted and just wanted to get to our room as it was early evening and was a very long day getting there. We figured we were going to be given just a bit of information, however the presentation at the desk was a bit lengthly and the main goal of it was for him to get you downstairs the following morning for their sales people to sell their time shares. We weren't fully aware of it at the time that that was the end goal, however the next AM we went down stairs and their sales people greeted us where we learned that they had a 1 1/2 to 2 hour presentation all about their hotel. If I want a time share, don't worry, I'll seek out a time share. This whole experience to us was VERY NEGATIVE and made me at the time never want to return. On this front, I give the hotel 0/5 stars. I was very unhappy about this. First impressions are so important and this was a very bad one.
Next issue I had was at check in for an "upsell" to premium. The Canadian dollar has depreciated against the Peso by about 20% in the last year. Going to Mexico was always fun as you could go to these resorts, get an awesome deal as it is "all inclusive" only to find that really now they have it set up as classifications. Have the main coloured bracelet and you get some drinks, or pay $19 US for premium to get 1st class treatment and all of the other alcohol. And they don't even give you a list as to what you can order thus for the first day I was almost thinking I could only get Corona. Turns out that the upsell is just for more expensive alcohol like "Grey Goose Vodka" and premium tequila's etc... All inclusive should be "all inclusive" and no upsell. I give this part of the resort 1 star.
For beer they only serve Corona... no Duseci beer or anything else. Personally I don't prefer Corona. I give the resort 2 stars for them having only the one beer.
Food in the buffet was always cold. Very bland and little taste. You would think their hot plates that they have the food over top of would keep the food hot. The pancakes, French toast and waffles... don't even touch them. Hardly any egg on the French toast and the food was there for hours and hours never being replenished. Nobody would barely touch them thus it just sat there. You know how if you go to McDonalds and the fries are sometimes cold? It is gross. McDonalds has a policy that they throw the fries if not eaten within a certain time period and usually they are good at that. But say for example the waffles/pancakes and French toast, it doesn't get eaten because they are disgusting. Throw it out and replenish for crying out loud. Don't make so much and have some fresh stuff. There are two grills there and you can get a hot omelette made... have a cook at the second grill cooking up the other stuff! I give the buffet one star.
The one restaurant "The Chill Out Bar" that is located at the beach. It isn't included in the "all inclusive". We heard good things about this place thus decided to give it a try. We had the best wine of our lives, AMAZING SERVICE as well as the best rib eye steak I have ever eaten in my life... granted the bill was hefty by the time we were done, however the food and the service plus amazing AMBIANCE made it worth every penny. I give this place a five star review all day long. Our waiters name was Rafael. Amazing waiter and they have a gem here. I give him 5 stars as well. We gave him a VERY generous tip.
The pools were amazing. We preferred the one closest to the beach. I give the bar tenders at this pool a five star review. They were awesome.
Each day at this pool they also had activities. The staff that did the activities were absolutely amazing. We played water polo, they had dance classes... the team that does this is superb and a blast to watch. I give this a five star review for them.
The service outside of the pool was almost non existent though... very seldom did they have someone come and take your order... occasionally but not very much. 2 star review for this.
The outside of the resort is spectacular. They keep the grounds well manicured and a full time team of staff keeping up the place. Beautiful. Five stars for that.
Rooms were kept up ok by the maid service each day. They weren't perfect, and not being critical but they did miss getting some stuff done once... nothing too bad though. I give them 4 stars.
The room itself though.... shower head leaked off of the top, and the hand held part that was an option leaked profusely. We were just glad to get wet though as it was super hot thus didn't complain... it did the job. The last day we were there though we noticed that the toilet seal must need replacing as water was leaking out from the bottom which was kinda gross when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Granted last day there we just left it as it was... but they could do a much better job at maintaining the rooms... at least that is how our room was. I give the room 3 stars overall.
My coffee pot wasn't working though... I had to complain 3 days in a row finally getting a bit upset the third day for them to bring a new coffee pot to my room. 1 star for that.
Next is the beach. They do a great job cleaning up the weed that is common for the area and I feel sorry for all of the resorts for this. Expect to pay a small fee that they charge upon check in that they have for environment. There is a LOT that they have to keep up on and by the end of the day the beach is covered again. Not the hotels fault and they do the best that they can. For us though, we've been to Cancun years prior. The beaches at Playa Del Carmen just aren't as good as they are up in Cancun due to Cozumel blocking the coast line. If we were to go back, we'd go back to Cancun and not Playa due to this reason. It is a bit more expensive in Cancun, however for the beach, personally I'd go to Puerta Vallarta over Playa Del Carmen to save a bit of money anyway as the beach here isn't all that nice in all honesty. Beach rating I give 2 stars but again, this isn't part of the hotel's fault as the location is the location thus just a heads up if you are reading this.
Service on the beach is about the same as around the pool. Occasionally someone would come by, but not very often. 2 stars for this.
If you do go to Playa Del Carmen though... some people say not to miss 5th Ave. 5th Ave is ok but we wouldn't go back there. Not worth the $50US taxi ride (total there and back). If you do want to go, there is a shuttle that is way less expensive. We didn't know about the shuttle until the day after of course. Make sure to go to the Xcaret excursion though. We saw Angel, he has a desk near the back pool and this dude rocks. 5 stars for him as he got us a decent deal. I had found a bit better of a price by searching discount codes, but decided to go through Angel anyway as he had so much information and was an awesome guy. Even gave me messages on WhatsApp to help me when having questions. For that event, get the "plus" package to get the meal. The buffet there was amazing and a lot more expensive if not purchased with the ticket. The package also comes with a locker for storing stuff and trust me, worth every penny.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Will definitely never return here again
Customer service at this hotel is horrible , there is absolutely no room service after 12 am at night after having drinks all night and we all know the drinks aren’t lightly served, majority of the employees are rude and do not want to help , they have carts that drive people around from one side to the other side of the resort but the never want to give you a ride , front desk service is horrible , my friend and I paid for two separate beds but the hotel insisted that we sleep together on a 7[... read more] day vacation as two grown woman! When we requested to get what we paid for all hell broke loose and the employees at the desk was very rude and argumentative! I love Cancun Mexico but I would never ever go to this resort again ever even if it was free !! The pools close at 7 no late night swims or food unbelievable!!

Ventus at Marina El Cid Spa and Beach Resort: Fantastic stay! Again
Wonderful place, Wonderful People, completely relax.
This is what a perfect vacation should be.
Perhaps next year the beach will be restored, you guys are making great progress.
Your greatest asset (besides the fantastic location) is your people. Again, Thomas at the Platinum Club sunshades - he made every day a great day. Extremely helpful and friendly. Luciano must be your Best Waiter. Hands down he is a winner of the Best Server category. Every time he goes the extra mile, and then some. B[... read more]eside him, on the #1 spot in the Server category is Javier - the King of Mercado de Dolores! Always smiling, always helpful and always making you smile. Then there are our butlers: Leopoldo, Allan and Tony (hope you had a great vacation, Tony and Leo - hope you battled your cold). The Three Amigos that made our stay truly worry-free.

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: New & spacious
Our stay was fantastic. I don’t know if it was the time of year (shoulder season) or what but we never had to wake up at the crack of dawn to reserve beach or pool chairs. This is the most annoying part of all inclusive resorts IMO, and this resort had plenty of lounge chairs at the five pools and all along the beach. To top it off you didn’t need to pay for shade in the several canopy areas. The beach was great for the kids as the waves were subtle and the water was clear.
The entire h[... read more]otel was modern & new, food was fantastic. The grounds keepers & cleaners were constantly working to keep the place top notch every day. Staff everywhere were very friendly. Highly recommend this for family vacation. The only complaint we had was the rooms with two beds were not queens but rather double beds. A little tight for a family of four but we made due. They do offer a cot style bed but we didn’t bother with it.

Krystal Grand Los Cabos: Good for kids
I want to start saying that the service is good, very friendly and always ready to help it you ask, opposite of that the hotel was outdated, you can't swim in the beach but neither in pools they are for kids even the one for "adults" food and drinks bad. I recommend to rent a car and explore Los Cabos towns and food, really good.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: First Timers
The hotel and the staff were very impressive in all aspects in our opinion. The rooms were spacious and the beds and bedding were comfortable and clean. The staff were constantly sweeping and cutting trees on the grounds to perfection. All the food and liquor choices were top shelf and well worth the value of our trip.
Give this resort a try and you will not be disappointed!

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Spectacular resort but less so re: service
The facilities and inter resort transport were great. Rooms were better that online pictures suggested. The 3 mandatories, good temperature control, comfortable bed and good temperature control were all big checks. We paid for a room with the private roof top patio and it was a great investment though the jacuzzi was no deeper than an inflatable kiddies pool. Other than Alux and Le Gourmet the other a la carte restaurants were far from 5 star. Service was were the breakdown was. For every [... read more]happy employee there was at least one who would likely have looked happier at a funeral. While there were numerous service shortfalls the worst was when we called for maintenance and were advised it be just a few minutes. 2 more calls and 75 minutes later they arrived. At that time we also pointed out that one of the room ACs was not working. The next day fix never happened.

Riu Palace Pacifico: Great resort
Beautiful Colonial structure on quaint beach front. Impressive main hall to welcome all guests.
Restaurants were had easy access on both sides of the semi circular building. Rooms were spacious and well kept. Main buffet was always well stocked and appealing. My wife and always ñ were celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary and we were disappointed by the measly dish with four very small pastries Management sent to the room. Not even a bottle of cheap champagne?

Riu Vallarta: Good resort
The resort was beautiful & most of the staff were excellent. There are a couple of problems. To many locals are being allowed on the resort. There management needs to improve. Also the Riu resorts do not take American dollars. Very upset. Will not return to that particular resort.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Stunning resort, but did have its issues
Our check-in process took 3+ hours, which meant we lost most of our first day. Premium Lounge definitely had its perks though (AC, snacks, bar etc.).
Resort was absolutely massive and staying at one gave you access to all of the different buffets, restaurants and things to see which was awesome. We took full advantage with a free pool scuba lesson, as well as paid excursions on a catamaran and jet skis, all lived up to expectations. The snorkeling on site was also great, got to see two sea tu[... read more]rtles and a lot of different fish.
We did deal with a homophobic incident on our first night and thought the staff could have done a lot better job handling the situation. They called to offer us a perk, but when we went to require it meant signing up for their Resort Club and sitting through a 30 minute presentation. We declined, to say the least.
Not sure if we'd return because of a few of these little things, but overall it was a good experience with great, friendly staff, reliable food and a variety of options so 7 days in the same area never got boring.

Viva Azteca by Wyndham: Nice Resort *3.5*
This is a 3.5 stars resort. Don't get me wrong, it was a nice place but missing the little extra to make it 4 stars.
On the plus side: Hotel was super clean, staff friendly and helpfull. It is a quiet resort with limited activities. Always a place at pool or beach. We had access to Viva Wyndham Maya, which was very nice. On the down side, bad music at the pool provided by the staff, always the same music, no seafood at all. Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Amazing Beach! Disappointed in the Service :(
We have stayed at the Sando Caracol previously and decided to try the Playacar! Hands down the beach here is so much better than the Caracol but we preferred the set up and service at the Caracol. We purchase the Select Club Adult only each time. The Playacar does not have the same service (bartenders did not have any drink consistency or service), bar is not situated well for access, our room was only cleaned twice in a week and if you had a black wrist band (Elite Club), the staff catered t[... read more]o you and ignored the gold Select Club. The Italian, French and Mexican A La Cartes were great! El Gaucho the Steak house, not so much as the steak was not cooked to specifications for either of us and you had a buffet salad bar and dessert bar. Morning buffet for Select Club had a great service! The Select Club and Elite section needed better signage as it was a direct path from the middle lobby and everyone walked through (families and children) when the main pool was off another branch of the path. The rooms were ok, they could do with some updates to the furniture but overall bed was comfortable and great storage. Our fridge didn't work when we arrived but our concierge Maria (over a 2 day period) was able to get it replaced. The beach and ocean were great for 4 days of our stay, the staff cleaned the weeds all day off the beach! The Wi-Fi was amazing outdoors but not in the rooms so it was sitting on the balcony if you wanted to connect. All in all, great weather and relaxing time but disappointed in service!

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: A good resort.
Good clean resort. Some buildings are older and some newer. Food isn't the best but it's ok. A la cartes are better. Four pools to choose from including an adult only pool. It is right on the beach and the ocean is fantastic to swim in. Mostly attended by Mexican families when we went in May. A lot of Canadians come here in late and earlier in the year. More restaurants bars etc. are open during this time of year. We have been here five times now and look forward to returning again.

Riu Palace Costa Mujeres: Amazing resort beautiful beach awesome food.
The 2 beds in the room were small twins. we were told double beds, so we needed a sofa bed to accommodate for 3 people in a room. Also needed a divider between the bathroom and the beds in front of the bathtub
