Hotel Camino del Mar: Best resort in cuba

I loved this place..food was fantastic which you cant always say for cuba. The beach was amazing and the rooms were new and modern. I would go back in a heartbeat. The weather did not cooperate but everything else made up for it

Hotel Playa Paraiso: Great Place

Had a wonderful vacation here the staff were awesome. Food was fantastic and beautiful beach. I would definitely stay at this location again. Really enjoyed my vacation. The rooms were very clean and up to date.

Hotel Mojito: Very nice resort

Amazing how much work has gone into restoring this hotel after Sept hurricane. It’s Very pretty the staff were great and always kept the guests entertained. I thought the food was very good. I would visit this resort again.

Hotel Playa Paraiso: At best a two star resort, and not the 4/5 star it's perported to be.

My wife and I stayed at the Pestana Cayo Coco resort from January 10 - 17/18, and had an ocean view suite consisting of a large livingroom, bedroom, and extensive bathroom facilites. Furniture was somewhat tired and quite uncomfortable. Bathroom being a standard loo, spacious glassed in rain shower, large jacuzzi tub, and a large two sink vanity with full mirror.. You could catch the occasional glimpse of the ocean, which was abo [... read more]ut 100 meters away, through small trees and scrub brush which still showed the ravages of last Fall's hurricane. We understand this resort was quite damaged then and the owners are to commended in the extensive repairs to date. Our suite was to have an included mini bar, resplenished daily, however when we first arrived we opened the small fridge and it was totally empty. When we went back to the front desk, we told them that, and they said we had to pay extra for the minibar. I explained we had, and they said they could give us a bottle of water for now, but to take it up with Customer Service. Also when I told them there was no lounge chairs on the balcony as advertised, we were told they only came with a suite. I tried to explain that we did have a suite, but the young man insisted we did not and were not entitled to lounge chairs, and to also take that up with Customer Service. We spoke to their Customer Service Rep, who said that yes, we were entitled to the daily minibar, and to the lounge chairs, and he would look after it. The next day someone came and brought us 1 bottle of water, 2 cans cola and 2 cans beer. That was it, and they would replenish whatever we used the following day. Two days later, a couple of men came with lounge chairs from the pool area to put on our balcony. They told us that the hurricane had destroyed the original chairs for our suite. Now then, the weather was poor with the entire week being cool overcast rainy and extremely windy every day, but that's the chance you take this time of year and doesn't reflect in this review at all. But it did give us time to take a long hard look at just where we were. We were on an island, no villages. All employees are bused from the mainland across a causeway - so there's no shopping. There's a small tuck shop which is the poorest we've ever seen on a resort - anywhere, bar none. There were a few large chocolate bars, booze, and some cigarettes, a collection of a dozen pieces of clothing - and that's about it. Oh yes, there's a soda pop cooler. Pricing examples, they take apart a package of 8 kleenex pocket packs to sell individually for 3.9 peso's, about $5.00. So if you have a cold, better bring your own supply. A large resort on a rather undullating topography the main walkways are extremely poorly lit at night, and the secondary walkways between building, not at all. So bring your own flashlights. If you have mobility issues at all you'll have problems here as there are no benches or seats along any of the walkways anywhere on this entire resort. Better bring a walker. Now the food was entirely something else. Mystery meat to no end. Sure, names were there, but.... A fairly long buffet but not when you realized it repeated itself. Quite disappointing really. But the wait staff are attentive and helpful, and try hard to please, especially when given a peso or two. The resort was really busy, lots of children, and there were lineups for everything, from the buffet, and the bars. I understand that under normal conditions, with nice weather, it is impossible to secure a lounge chair at the pool or at the beach, however, for an extra $14 per day you can get a "premium" room which includes a reserved lounger at those locations. Overall, we were VERY disappointed with this resort, and we do not recommend this place, nor will we ever return to it.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Adequate Resort

When we stayed there mid January Tryp was still undergoing a lot of repair work and rebuilding. The lobby felt quite bare as there were mostly metal chairs to sit on. They had some comfortable seating too but there weren't enough of these for everyone. The beach is beautiful to walk along as you can enjoy the entire stretch when the tide is out. They have replaced most of the overhead shade areas now and have added wheel chair ramps to each boardwalk. There was no foot rinse station yet so on [... read more]e had to rinse off in the pool after going to the beach. The buffet food was fresh and tasty even if not especially varied. I found the best meals were the ones made fresh for you at the various stations. The buffet room itself was very functional with white tables and plastic place mats. Our room looked out over the ocean with a balcony so I didn't care that the TV didn't work and there was no hot water for a couple of days. The room was cleaned well every day and restocked with towels and water. The staff were absolutely phenomenal!! Friendly, hard working, and quick to help you with whatever you needed.

Tryp Cayo Coco: Incredibly beautiful beach. Great staff. Rebuilding after hurricane damage.

As with almost every resort or hotel, and almost every review of TRYP itself, this review has positives and negatives. We just returned from a week Jan 10-17 with a group of three couples, and here are my observations. Some observations: There sure was a lot of damage from hurricane Irma and they are working very hard indeed to restore the resort. They must have been devastated. There are palm stumps all over the place, and I can only imagine how beautiful it was previously. We were in [... read more] Block 5 and it was really not fully restored yet. I think they opened it too soon as many of the other blocks looked totally restored, while ours looked like a bit of a dump. Our room had only tepid water or cold water for most of the stay. There was hot water only on the last day. The bathroom was worn out with a sagging shower curtain rod and plugged up shower head (that I fixed myself) and dirty woodwork around the desk. The TV was broken and the balcony door had no lock. It was OK I suppose, as we were only there to sleep, but a hot shower would have been nice. The lobby is exposed and breezy due to the loss of the covered front areas. The lobby seating is limited to a few hardware store plastic couches and chairs, plus some metal round lounge tables and chairs. The beach has few amenities - all was blown away in the storm, however it's a stunning, gorgeous beach! The best I have ever seen in my life. We just loved it even on the cooler and windy days. TRYP has nice rectangular sunshade structures all along the front of the property. Much better than the round umbrella style palm frond parasols. There were plenty of beach chaise lounges too. The Asian and European a la carte restaurants were pretty bad. Food was tasteless or in the Asian, some dishes were almost inedibly salty. I brought my own peanut sauce and Thai chilli sauce to make things interesting. The Italian place was terrific however. My preference was the main dining hall buffet. As a vegetarian, I was able to assemble large delicious meals (with my own sauces). Oddly, you need to wait for staff to bring a spoon if you are eating cereal. Throughout the resort the staff was exemplary. They really, really went out of their way to take care of the guests. The only exception was the barmaid at the a la carte restaurant martini bar who actually had the gall to mock me in front of my friends because I didn't want a drink. We enjoyed several excursions: The catamaran, the glass-bottom boat, the climbing thing down the road (and my favourite) the horseback riding, which was stunningly beautiful as the horses trotted through the surf. Tipping is at your discretion and no one ever pressures you to tip. WiFi is pretty bad... it seemed rare that it actually worked, and when it did the service just crawled along. The entertainment crew was just amazing... what a super talented bunch! We enjoyed every show they put on... very fun stuff. They have done a lot of work, but they still have a long way to go

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Good resort

It still has some evidence of hurricane damage, but in pretty good shape. Staff was great, entertainment was great. The room was not that good. No door on bathroom. No locks on exterior doors. I can't see how this hotel has a 4 star rating.

Sol Cayo Coco: Great holiday at Sol Cayo Coco!

This was our third time to Sol Cayo Coco. The atmosphere at the resort is what we like best! The beaches are amazing... food is good.... staff are great! We will be back and always recommend Sol to our friends!

Sol Cayo Coco: Spectacular Resort

We had a great holiday. The resort is exceptionally clean. The staff treat you like family. The food is not bad either. We’ll be going back for sure. We recommend this resort. We had a bit of a flood the first morning due to the heavy rain and Yasletti was there immediately to clean it up. Grounds staff are working hard to bring back the beautiful landscape. Hotel Camino del Mar: Great Resort

The resort was very clean and kid friendly. The staff was ready to help every step of the way. the food was ok, but thats everywhere in Cuba. Overall our experience with the resort was excellent. I will definitely go back

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Good resort for a budget

The resort it is ok for a budget vacation. The grounds are ok, nothing to impress. The room is fine, big and clean, for sure with a need for an update. The food is good, for a 4 star hotel, always something to eat, you will not starve. They have cooking stations and lots options with cooked food, rice, fries, baked potatoes....stews. Deserts they need some improvement. The beach is nice and wide, some windy days, some cloudy days. The people working at the resort are the best part. Melia Jardines del Rey: Great Family Resort

We loved our stay at the Jardines Del Rey. All of the facilities were upgraded and the rooms were in great condition. The food was tasty (smoked salmon every day for breakfast and lunch!). The entertainment staff was great and the daycare ladies were caring. The beach is simply stunning.

Iberostar Origin Playa Pilar: Wonderful Experience!

Iberostar Playa Pilar is a terrific resort that shines with its service!! The food and beverage options are wonderful and the staff is exceptionally friendly and accomodating. The seaside area is incredible with plenty of lounge chairs and awesome bar service. The view...breathtaking!

Melia Jardines del Rey: Large hotel

Great staff and services. Large place. Busy. Beautiful beach. Units close to the main building will be noisy at night from late nite entertainment... so if you like quiet stay further away from the main hotel lobby. Some infrastucture problems like low water preasure in shower or toilets. But overall a gd resort.

Melia Cayo Coco: Great staff, average resort

We stayed in a lagoon room. The view and terrace with lounge chairs was lovely but the room wasn't anything special. Food was plentiful and not bad. The beach was long and great for walking but would have liked to see it cleaned better. The weather wasn't great, so perhaps that was part of the reason? The staff at this hotel are excellent though and really go out of their way to make you feel special. I think we were expecting a Melia to be a bit higher quality compared to other hotels in C [... read more]uba but it was just "ok". The staff are what made it great.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Good value resort

A typical Cuban 4 stars hotel (actually probably 3 stars on a normal scale). Pluses: the room, the beach (not exactly in front of the hotel, but 500 m left or right), good service at the bars Minuses: the food (this would be the 11th time going to Cuba, it was on a low side for a Cuban hotel), the landscaping not that great, beach restaurant and pier not repaired after the hurricane (the other hotels did). Good value for the money.

Hotel Playa Coco: Awesome place

The hotel is very spacious the staff is super friendly. WiFi reaches almost everywhere but the rooms and the beach. There are many repeat visitors to this resort. The buffet is a little sub par, but the a la carts are excellent, especially the Japanese. Plan on going back in the coming years

Melia Jardines del Rey: Famulous resort - let me tell you why

Hotel staff superb, friendly can't do enough for you, clean rooms , hot showers, beaches likely best in Cuba, all the boating available, snorkeling paradise, great food & seafood especially. Short bus trip to resort & we loved there jazz & tenor singers, just before the diner hour. Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Another great time in Cuba

Considering this area was hit very hard by Hurricane Irma just a few months before our trip on December 19th, 2017, it was in remarkable shape and fully functional with the only noticeable damage being the amount of rooms that were still unavailable due to repairs. This was our first time in Cayo Coco and this was definitely the nicest resort we've stayed at in Cuba as we normally opt for a different travel experience than this, but it was a nice change to just sit back, relax and enjoy the a [... read more]mazing services of a nice resort. We've been all over Cuba, from Varadero to Holguin, for a total of about 6 times in the last 5 years and the main reason we had not done Cayo Coco before is the lack of local connection. There is no town or village to wander through and meet locals, its just completely isolated. You don't find many locals on the beach or at the shopping center ($5 CUC bus fair per person, return trip included), so its just tourists and resort staff. We love to spend our time making friends with Cubans, eating at the small family restaurants, and getting away from the resorts. But you won't get that here, unless you rent a car, or hire a taxi and spend a few hours traveling. The beach is typical of a Cuban beach, mind blowing beautiful. The hotel food was better than you expect for Cuba. As far as rooms go, its Cuba, so there are some issues, and my profession being in property inspection, I could tear it apart with an endless list of issues. But who goes on vacation for the room? You're in paradise, be happy and don't worry about the little things that don't matter! The staff as always were amazing, including at the kids club where we left our son at for a few hours each day, though most of the time he ended up being the only child, the staff were great at playing games and he would ask us to take him back! We checked out the nightly entertainment about 5/7 nights and it was good each time. For later night entertainment there is a disco / night club off the resort which you will have to pay for your own drinks, beers were $3 CUC and locals go too (which is great to us, we loved seeing one of the kids club staff there enjoying herself!) This was about our 10th time booking through Tripcentral.ca and about our 5th representative and once again, they made sure everything went smoothly and remain the only travel site, agency, etc., that I recommend!

Melia Jardines del Rey: I would not recommend this hotel

Not only did it take 4 hours to get our room; when we finally did there were NO towels and or pillow cases. This was the case with many guests who were staying at the resort the same week. It took several calls to the front desk to finally get them, there was no compassion on their end. New/clean beach towels were also a hassle to get, if you were lucky and patient enough to line up every morning before 9am. The resort kept running out of mint (for Mojitos), beer and various items in the a la c [... read more]arte restaurants. My only positive comment is that the food was decent in respect to Cuba standards.
