Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great time at Azul

6 of us stayed here first week of April. Shuttle to the resort was on time and took around 40mins. The resort check in was very fast with no issues. Our first room had no safe , we were assigned a new one right away. We were in the ground floor room 12116 sliding doors opened out to one of the several pools next to a bar/restaurant serving drinks and a small menu from 10am to 430pm daily. Very good service. Pool was awesome...clean ...tables and chairs around the pool were always available. We d [... read more]id 3 restaurants Cuba/Italian/Japanese. Japanese being the best. Breakfast /lunch and dinner were very good always a very large selection of food. Several bars around d the resort drinks were not an issue. Internet is sold by the hour with 1cuc per card with username and password.. day trips are available at extra cost... We just hired a car and went I to town to the markets...cost us 20 peso for 4 of us. Cheap!...I would forsure go back here...it's Cuba not the Hilton Toronto!

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Nice resort but over rated in our opinion.

We enjoyed our stay but... no doors on the closets, tub drain was plugged, no tub drain so no bath, no shower stall so we had to "climb" into the tub that was 2 1/2 feet high. The shower head was not hooked to the wall so we had to hold the wand. The door wouldn't close without overriding the lock. There was a 1 inch step up into our room that we kept tripping over. The resort is large so there were lots of people around causing congestion in the main buffet area. We had trouble finding shade anywhere unless we were willing to get up before daylight to put towels on a lounger. The pool area attendants made sure we had mats to put on the lounger. That was "comfort" :) The beach was very nice with lots of huts and loungers. The beach was very clean. We didn't stay up to see any of the entertainment but we heard it was a nice. Internet was fast without any problems.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: great resort

was a large place lots walking, food was good but bathrooms needed lots work and ran out of water one night.1/2 hour o so.beaches were a mess too much sea weed washed up and was there all week.stunk of sea weed.

Iberostar Origin Playa Alameda: Ok resort typical Cuban resort

We booked this hotel three months in advance . We requested a king size bed that we didn’t get . The room was big enough and short walk to the beach . Very standard room with a view of a road nothing special . This is my 6th visit to Cuba and I’ve stayed at six different resorts . I won’t complain about the food because we never went hungry but it is what it is . Would I visit this resort again ? No , but that goes for all the others as well . The younger generation don’t pay the same attention to the guests as the older ones do . I always had to ask for more water or more wine or more of what ever I was drinking . Most don’t even make eye contact in order to avoid being asked for anything . I want expecting five star service but I was expecting a smile and some gratitude after all the whole island is dependent on the tourism dollar . Anyway we live Cuba for the most part the people are amazing considering their situation . I will visit Cuba again and again but I will try a different resort each time . Footnote , there is a great lack of beach chairs , there were many people wondering the beach up and down looking for chairs so I suggest bringing a beach blanket just in case .

Hotel Los Cactus: Been to worse and been to better

The buffet was what I expected in Cuba so no surprise no complaint, the room ( 402 ) was tired very poor location but the maid did a good job ( I did kill 3 cockroaches during the week ) the service was good except at the lobby bar the two female bartenders would almost ignore you unless you had a tip in your hand! Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Incredible Vacation with Amazing Service

From booking the vacation with Martine in St. Catherines, to when we arrived, 100% satisfaction. We arrived at the Iberostar Laguna Azul and were met by the friendliest hotel front desk attendants I have ever met. As we were checking in, a very nice lady brought us a citrus juice drink right there at the front desk, and it was amazing. This was the first impression and let me tell you, you felt like royalty! Next up was the bellman who took our baggage to our room, all along the way  [... read more]he was providing us detailed information on the hotel, the activities and the night life at the hotel. He explained how to also get around off the resort on the double deck bus service.....all day for $5.00! We got to our room to find a king size bed fit for a queen and the most spacious room I have stayed in. Our room was very clean, plenty of pillows and clean crisp sheets and towels. The shower was huge and LOTS of hot water! The pools at this resort were awe inspiring, clean, cool and plenty of room for everyone! You had a choice of 7 different pools from very active with lots of people, to quiet and private type pools if you want privacy. The beach....oh the beach...was so clean and water sooooo clear! The food was incredibly tasty and plentiful! The head chef of all the food services can be seen walking around ALL of the restaurants on the resort at EVERY meal! The Japanese Restaurant was my favourite, the chef we had was comical, but he made the food with incredible precision and with such a fun way to include his guests with cooking and the atmosphere! Now to the best part, the STAFF. The staff, whether it was the bar staff, waitresses or the room cleaners...were AMAZING! They really know how to treat you as a special guest and not just a tourist. Our waiter Jonkey in the buffet diner (not sure if it was spelt right) was truly passionate at his job and he made everyone feel welcomed by the way he treated our wives at dinner and gave the guys a rose made from paper to give to our wives.....we invited him back to Canada! He was so amazing. Israel our WestJet guide at the resort was very helpful and accommodating while booking excursions! He is a true testament to hospitality! This first trip to Cuba will be one of many we will take. We all said (6 of us) we would definitely be going back to Cuba and we also said this resort will be top of the list to return to! Grand Memories Varadero: Waste of time and money!

It was waste of time and money to stay in Grand Memories Varadero hotel. The hotel was very old and rooms were dirty. Even beach was dirty. I would never go back to that hotel or any Memories hotels in Cuba.

Starfish Varadero: Love this resort, 3rd visit..

This hotel has upgraded the facilities every year. Cuba day on Friday is a good celebration and the beach party is so much fun.The staff could not be any nicer. We did enjoy the coffee bar a few years ago but that is gone. The towel service was down when we were there because the machines were broken.Only two a la carte restaurans were open not three.The new beach bar should be finished soon.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Loved the small resort vibe !

Airport : Santa Clara : The airport seemed to be too small to accommodate the volume of people. There was a bit of confusion regarding the bus we were to board and the bank exchange at the airport would not exchange my husbands two 50 dollar bills into cuban CUC's ( tourist money ) Fortunately we were able to get money exchanged at the resort. ( Which we used for tipping ) Resort: The room was a little worn was showing its age but was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The walk in closet [... read more] was a nice feature as was the outdoor shower which we just "loved". Food: Breakfast and lunch was very good and there was variety... the best lunch served was the "Cuban" lunch it was one of the best meals I had at the resort. There was also a wood burning oven near the pool that served excellent pizza, along with burgers and hotdogs. Dinner was a bit of a challenge with only 2 a la carte restaurants ...but Leidi and Yanislei were very accommodating at the Los Canibes Restaurant. Cafe: We would gather in evening for the entertainment which was very good. Yamisela at the cafe was very friendly and eager to please. Beach: The resort has 3 beaches which were amazing... the Sunset beach the water was very calm ... the middle beach had waves was swimmable and you can also get snorkelling equipment for the ocean water life. The third beach was long and was great for our morning walks. Overall it was our first time at an all adults resort... we loved the small resort vibe...all the staff were very pleasant and eager to please. We would defiantly go back !

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Amazing staff

The cafe and changes to a la carte restaurants are a plus. Hot Food in the buffet tends to be cold. A la carte food is hot and a good varied menu. Staff are what keep us coming back. All are friendly and helpful but a few stand out - Cheylin,Alfredo, Carlos, Alex, Mileasia, Ileana, Nadia, Leonadus. Resort and rooms are clean.

Hotel Bella Costa: Beautiful resort

We have been to this resort 3 times. À lot of upgrades where made and it looks great. Iberostar bought Bella Costa and the staff said it is better to work with the new owners. We love that resort because of the staff we know. Also it's not far from Varadero. On a scale of 10 this resort is a 7. There is still more work to be done but they are working on it. We love the atmosphere of the lobby bar. We love the Cuban music players that plays at the bar. We enjoy the Xaxaphone and guitar player t [... read more]hat plays at this resort. The food for us is great, no complaints. The beaches in Cuba are the best. We will go again to this resort for sure.

Playa Caleta: at least no rain

grounds were fairly clean, food choices were limited, some issues were resolved, beach was nice, russians were rude, arrogant, and a lot of them were drunks, a lot of them travelled here. we will never come back here.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Pick another resort

I only stayed one night at this resort and thankfully Sunwing quickly move me at my request that is because the night we landed the mosquitoes swarmed us in the lobby luckily I was still in my Canadian clothes. The next morning at breakfast the coffee was literally just coloured water there was no coffee flavour left so they had run it through several times the same coffee grounds The resort looks beautiful seem to be a lot of walking it’s too far up on the peninsula and is costly by cab to g [... read more]o into Varadero needless to say I will not be back thank you again Sunwing and Joe for moving us promptly to the Bella Costa where we had a much better week and I didn’t have to use bug spray once.

Grand Memories Varadero: I won’t be back!!

I was in building 21, toilet seat was off toilet, shower was wrapped around tub faucets, wouldn’t stay on wall, small bugs in bathroom, walls were dirty, bed skirt filthy, main washrooms were dirty. Don’t recommend anyone going there. I booked Diamond Club package and got no extra treatment like I was supposed too. Bars were too crowded, always running out of orange juice, pizza, fries and even expected us to purchase wine at one of the all le carts. Save your money book somewhere else. Muthu Playa Varadero: resort as a look and as a location was good

i think the staff was very nice and friendly , the entertainment personal was great as well , food was sucks as usual..snack bar was very poor..the beach bar and restaurant was awful..they were frying only sardines.

Barcelo Solymar: Sun and fun

Have been to Cuba 13x love the people and country. This hotel was nicer then some i have stayed in clean well laid out. Was surprised to be able to use facilities at hotel next door but was not as impressed with that hotel felt mine was better. Location to town was great. Beach was well kept I was very happy with everything at this hotel and would definitely return here again Thanks for a great vacation

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Great Resort

We had a lot of fun! The rooms were very clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The food was as expected. There were lots of activities going on throughout the day at the main pool and beach. There were also two quiet pools if in need of a break. We would definitely go back.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Beautiful Resort

The grounds were beautiful & the rooms were also nice. The resort is large so be prepared for some walking. We stayed in a renovated room close to the beach. The lack of variety in the buffet restaurant was disappointing. Food was okay. The staff were very friendly. Our waitresses in the buffet restaurant were more than amazing. So friendly & always greeting you with a big smile. They were genuinely glad to see us. We made such a connection with them. Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa: Could be great but inconsistent

Overall trip was barely average. Drinks, coffee, food and service great in some areas of the resort, and horrible in others. Sunwing/Tui own this hotel so they should be able to do better. But every single resort employee made you feel welcome.

Hotel Los Cactus: Our favourite place to stay

We love los cactus. We first visited this resort in 99 when it was superclub breezes varadero. Since that time we have island hopped all over the Caribbean but Every few years we are drawn back to this resort. The staff are wonderful and many are still the ones we may on our first trip in 99. Every time we return it’s like old home week. Why go anywhere else.
