Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Amazing resort

My husband and I travel south two to three times a year and the Bahai Principe is definitely worth investigating for a trip south. The staff are friendly and the property is kept remarkably clean. Whether you are eating in the buffet or the a la carte, you will get a great meal with lots to choose from. It is slso nice to be able to leave from Hamilton. The experience from start to finish was great

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Great resort. Huge! Be prepared to walk.

The resort is beautiful.the food was good. We found check-in to be a pain though. We arrived by bus load and stood in line for 2 hours to check in. The bars didn't open at their proper times. Always late. Otherwise very nice resort.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Three Star Kite friendly!

Food is decent, resort is nice and rooms are ok. you can expect a small issue or two like no hot water but eventually this gets fixed. This is not an ideal place for non-kiters! Very windy and kites on the beach are dangerous to tanners and pedestrians.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: not bad resort

It wasn,t a four star but the rooms were clean and newly renovated, it was a large resort with lots of activities to do , the activation team was good, but the nightly entertainment sucked,there was really no shows unless drunks got on the stage, It rained for three days. the marble floors were so slippery two people I know of broke their legs,they should have used more signage.The food was ok but no variety it was the same for seven days if you were creative you didnt eat the same thing everyda [... read more]y. The a la cart were way better too bad you cant eat there every night,the beach sucked the kept it clean but the water was dark and the sand was a dirty brown, there were sand fleas and lots of people got bit.we booked a excursion but was cancelled three times not enough people so we went on the sat and it poured rain all day yet we still had fun

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Amazing resort

The place was amazing. The grounds were the nicest we have been too. The food was very good,plenty,a and a good variety. The staff was great. Very helpful and very friendly. There are 3 pools, 3 jacuzzis, 2 beaches. Lots of games during the day, good shows at night, and a good disco. A great place for friends and families. Very reasonable too!!!!!

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Great location!

I love this resort the most for the experience with the locals right on the strip of the town where all the fun bars are and the popular local beach! I have never had that on our yearly all inclusive vacations. Everything was walking distance and was nice when we could go and adventure around and feel safe on the town. We went into town dayly and even exchanged money with the locals on the strip which was much better rate than the hotel. One thing didn't like was the snack bar started at 12am wh [... read more]ile disco was going on and only went on for an hour. But we looked past that and just made sure we lined up at 12 while disco was on to fill up to soak the beverages up. Also I liked buying a case of water at the local grocery store since they don't stock up your water in your room dayly which was cheap. But they also have water fountains on your ground floor but we liked not hiking to refill all the time, unless you get a ground floor. But overall was so fun and so beautiful with the hot tubs which are cool tubs really:) over looking the pretty scenery which so so loved. You also need to get up really early to get a chair if not you won't get one.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Holiday

Found the staff friendly, enjoyed the meals. We had great dinners at the Brazilian restaurant, food was great and the staff very friendly, service excellent and we could not have asked for a better time. We ate there our last night and in speaking to the manager told him it made our final night there the best.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Awesome Time!

Had a wonderful time! If you want a five star resort, pay for a 5 star resort. If you want a lot of fun, decent hotel, not bad food, lots to do or just relax, this is a great place. Would go back again!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Good value for money

Travelled January 29-February 5, 2015. Resort had well kept grounds and nice pool areas with lots of lounge chairs and was never overly crowded. Had a large eating area and buffet was good with lots of choices. A la carte restaurants were good too. Nice and close to airport. Somehow got an upgraded room so we were happy with that. Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Resort needs a makeover!

We visited the Casa Marina Beach and Reef resort from January 29th to February 5, 2015. The resort grounds are nice but the rooms need a definite makeover. We were placed in a room that was very old. There are no fridges in the rooms, no hair dryers and in the room we were in there was not even a plug in the bathroom so you could shave or dry your hair. The bath tub was old, dirty and splattered with paint and mortar. We had one day of rain and we had a ceiling leak in our room over the bed. Upo [... read more]n reporting to the hotel they checked it out and advised there was no problem despite the bed being soaked. They simply moved the bed over and away from the leak. When the air conditioner was turned on the room smelled of mold. We requested another room and we were moved to a newer section of the resort where the room was very nice and up to date. Upon check in you are provided with two small bottles of water and then no more. You must refill your water bottles at the bars if you wanted more water. As mentioned the grounds are beautiful. The food was good and the staff were efficient. The water was very rough and there were only two days of seven that we were permitted in the water which was disappointing. The entertainment was ok but not exceptional and was not every night. We made the best of our vacation but would never visit this resort again.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: an OK resort but....

We travelled here with 3 other couples. We are all regular Canadian country boys and girls, 40 somethings who travel every year. We always travel last minute because we get the best deal that way. On the net this resort was rated 4+ and we payed $1050 so we did pretty good. I will give you the bad then the good. The Bad; Buffet. We all love to eat, the food here was mediocre at best. We had a basic room. It was clean but plain. No veiw. The tile floor was probably softer than the bed so my wife and i were fighting for pillows to sleep on. lol Definitly get the upgrade. One couple we were with did and their room and bed was much better. The beach. The beach itself was really nice and in all fairness really it was the weather that caused the problems but lots of seaweed and garbage.They cleaned it all up fairly quickly. When we arrived we had 3 days of rain so the waves were huge and the ocean was really stirred up so we never swam in the ocean once. The good; The staff here are great, the dominican people are great. Even the vendors on the beach were great. A simple no,gracias and they would leave you alone. The markets up the beach a ways were fun with many outgoing personalities to interact with. They had the coldest el presidenties around so we enjoyed quite a few there This is a very clean resort. The cleaning staff take pride in their work especially the washrooms at the bars so make sure to show them some financial appreciation. They truly appreciate the gesture more than maids and bartenders. The ala carte dinners were all really good with the mexican being our favourite. I dont know why but anywhere you eat chicken here it is fantastic. These people really know how to cook chicken. Roasted whole, breaded and deep fried different ways, wings, parts, it didnt matter it was always delicious. Same goes for their breads and buns. They were all fantastic with a great selection so now you know what i ate all week. lol. All in all we had a great week here. If you just want to relax, eat drink and be merry, you are 30+ and not a fussy eater you will enjoy yourself at this hotel. I know I sure did.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great little resort!

Good and clean, friendly staff and animation team. Some rooms could use a little updating, but otherwise fine. Unfortunately they were unable to accommodate us with a room in a quieter area, so the noise by the pool at night was a little loud.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Nice resort

I Thought the resort was really nice and things were easy to find. The service was great and specially at the bars. George at the pool bar was amazing! Always took time to come and talk and get to know his customers. Really nice man! Other then the 3 days of rain we had a fantastic time. Our trip to country world (zip lining, horse back riding and animals) was amazing everyone so nice and helpful. Great trip all around! Would go back to Be Live report

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: loved it!

Very clean resort. People were super friendly! We had been there before and would definitely go there again. Had recommend this resort to a coworker and he had his wedding there. On our way home my daughter asked if we could go there again next year!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great service, good food, so-so beach

Beautifully landscaped grounds are kept constantly manicured. Food is varied and for the most part tasty. Concern was that invariably it wasn't hot unless you got it right off the grill. Hot coffee in the morning was unattainable. Don't bother asking for DECAF. You'll get instant!! Surprised there were no "munchies" at the bar. It was good to a point but it became clear pretty quickly that we were being driven to various places where we would be enticed to spend $$ ...ex. the vanilla factory...charged us $5 for a bottle that we could have obtained for $1 - 2 back on the beach at one of the stalls. They get your heartstrings to buy stuff for the kids at the school you stop at....but they charge you prices for stuff that are 5X what you'd pay for at the Dollar STORE back home. Our "guide" didn't provide a whole lot of info. in comparison to some other people we heard about.. He seemed intent on stoppoing frequently so that we could get "liquored up". It's a long way from anything and taxi rides cost huge amounts of American dollars. Right now it's important for Canadians to realize that a $30 cab ride to San Juan is actually $36 Canadian dollars....a local bus is 100 pesos or about $3....but the hotel people don;t want you to use that....support the taxi lobby I guess

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great times at the Marien

From start to finish a great vacation-in spite of the weather. Sunwing was the only flight leaving Halifax that day due to the weather but was on time. Flight was good- food, wine & movie free. Arrival in DR smooth & efficient at the airport as well as checkin at the Marien. Norvin our Sunwing rep gave a great intro to the hotel & DR the first morning. The 3 a la cartes were amazing Our faves were the Mexican (beef fajitas & Chicken in poblano sauce) & Gourmet (fillet mignon that melts in your mouth). A friend we met at the resort recommends the Chateaubriand. Brazilian was a great experience with good food as well. We had lunch daily at the beach snack bar where they have a small but yummy buffet (esp chicken wings) or you can get hamburgers or hotdogs grilled for you. BEACH/POOL-Nice long beach for walking, you can walk right to the Orange market & Playa Dorada complex if you want ~30 min each way). Since we had some stormy days,the beach was full of debris that washed in. This was cleaned up in front each of the resorts but the vacant beachfront areas were quite dirty in places. Beach vendors were abundant but left you alone with a polite "no gracias". Fun swimming & jumping the waves but no water sports due to rough waters. POOL was always clean with activities going on if you wanted to join in. ROOM-We had a basic room which was cleaned to perfection daily by Rosa Maria. Our fridge wasn't working but was replaced very quickly once we notified the front desk. ENTERTAINMENT-This was where we felt improvements could be made by having more dancing/singing type shows by the talented Marien entertainment team. Another suggestion would be to have Dominican musicians (piano, guitar, violin) playing in the beautiful lobby for an hour or 2 each evening. Overall the resort was great with amazing, friendly staff.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: amazing trip

Hotel was super clean! Well kept, we stayed in the renovated building and our room was gorgeous! Food was delicious and staff were very accommodating! For the most part this experience was quite enjoyable I would recommend It to all couples looking to have fun and enjoy each others company.. If your looking to party like crazy I would suggest somewhere else, it quiets down quite a bit around 12 and there is no disco. :) loved it!

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Wonderful resort grounds are beautiful

Beautiful resort.The rooms need a up date.The food was good and very relaxing vacation.We would go back to this resort.The grounds are well kept.The maid who clean our room was great and helpful.The pool open until 9:00p.m. for a night swim.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Wow!!! We found our little bit of Heaven!

From gourmet dinning at specialty restaurants to the well manicured grounds this resort continues too awes us in paradise! Cleanliness of public areas and rooms (with spectacular views) were appreciated. Service was 5 star and genuine!!

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Rough start- Decent Finish!

Be Live is the equivalent of a 3 star resort in the US. It has parts that are great (pool, restaurants) and other areas are lacking. The customer service at the reception desk is minimal, some rooms are in dire need of renovations (in the newer buildings they are fine, but you pay to upgrade to these). The beach is just ok compared to the Iberostar next door. It is fairly dirty and has a lot of seaweed which is not raked raked daily. The pool is very nice, however there are not enough chairs in  [... read more]shaded areas and never a decent towel supply. For the price it was ok, but not as polished as Iberostar.
