Bahia Principe Explore Turquesa: Disappointed with Turquesa

Having stayed previously and been impressed with the quality of facilities and service in another Turquesa hotel in Cancun, we booked the Grand Bahia and Turquesa in our first visit to Punta Cana. From Day 1, we were disappointed with the level of service here. We were not allowed to reserve more than one Ala Carte hotel in our 5 nights stay there. No internet in the rooms unless paid! They insisted that was their policy- max 2 restaurant reservations allowed for a 5 night stay (even with 2 rooms), and they counted the Christmas-eve buffet dinner as one of the allowed two! And we had to pay for the wine there. The rooms itself were good and clean, and the beach was excellent. Overall Turquesa seemed like a poor cousin amongst the rest of the Grand Bahia properties!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Awesome place!

We really enjoyed all aspects of the resort. The facilities were great and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a family of four and the room was setup with two single beds and a king bed without having to make the request. We are already trying to plan our next visit.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Very Outdated

This was our first trip to Mexico and our first time at a Bahia resort. The resort is massive, we relied on shuttle service all the time because we were far from everything, a time waster and not ideal with a 6 year old as the walk would have taken forever with him. The buffet was huge and food was great here always, tonnes of variety. The 2 family pools were beyond freezing and my kids only went in once for 10 minutes, way too cold. The beach is nothing spectacular but the water here was warm.  [... read more]Staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, always working hard, etc. The rooms were a good size but beds were hard, bed sheets had stains on them, blanket was very old, shower bar was broken so we could only use the rain shower and pressure was mid range at best, iron didn’t work, and the phone in the room didn’t work, We requested not to be on the ground and this is what we got. I went to the Air Transat desk and the rep advocated for us to be moved, especially after I showed her the photos I took of dirty everything. After 1.5 hours she was successful and we moved. New building still far away but at least on a higher floor - room here was as dirty as the first and we sucked it up. I would go back to Mexico but would never risk staying at a Bahia again, nothing here was so good that I would tolerate sleeping in old dirty bedding again. Not sure how hotel ratings work but I would give this a 3.5 at absolute best.

Bahia Principe Escape Samana: Great place to relax

Stay November 2017 The good and the bad, the average. GOOD. Service was great, food had great presentation, drinks were great, the whole hotel was very clean, views were great, butler service and animation staff put forth a huge effort BAD, Nothing to do outside the hotel, only one pool at the hotel, and on our stay the weather was TERRIBLE. The horses did not look well, the falls were beautiful and refreshing, the lunch was great, cigar factory was educational, the zip-lining was the highlight of the tour, the team were funny and very helpful. Highly recommended.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Wonderful selections of fresh fruits and friendly hospitality

My wife and I stayed at Sian Ka'an over the new year period from Dec 29-Jan 5 '17. This chain of 4/5 resorts at Bahia Príncipe was enormous, likely over 1000 acres with miles of great beaches to walk/run. Ecological jungle at $5 to a guided tour. Different gourmet restaurants about 8 to choose from - The Alux and The Corales (Brazilian Steak House) stood out to be spectacular in quality, taste and presentation - we were spoiled for the whole week aside from the usual breakfast and lunch spot at [... read more] the buffet. Because this resort at Sian Ka'an was adult only, it was very quiet by the pools (4 or 5 separate ones), staff came by to serve drinks - afternoon activities ranged from Bingo to Bocce Ball, Darts, PingPong and Volleyball and various others. We had asked for a change of mattress one morning and a brand new one came before noon. This resort was so huge that commutes by trams or long golf carts were used between our resort to the beaches on the south side of the highway about a 7 minute ride which was quite pleasant as we got to see some exotic iguanas sunning in temps of 27-29C and other small Coati-Mundis - a hog-nosed coon indigenous in the tropics - very cute and harmless. The new year's party was amazing at The Hacienda with fireworks and casino action right after - we had loads of fun watching Elvis, magicians and dancers and acrobats strut their routines and show off their amazing muscular physiques and curvy figures - it was wonderful!! Overall we had a well deserved relaxing week of vacation filled with fun, great food and hot sun - what else can one ask?!?

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Best Choice For What We Wanted

Having been to DR several times, Cheryl and I were looking for a great resort in a different location with an awesome walking beach and great snorkelling. Our agent, O'Neil Graham made suggestions that exactly fit our bill. The hotel, food and especially the beach was amazing and we would definitely return. The resort is only missing two things: music of a latin flavour i.e. guitarists and a smoothie bar for breakfast meals.

Exceptional service What makes this resort so exceptional.....the staff. You cannot ask for better service any where else. Kary & Andres @ Cozumel every morning started my day looking after me before my husband arrived...Lunch @ KUKULCAN was just as great...thank you to Omar, Landy & Norma...you made us feel like family. Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Celebrating our 50th Wedding Anniversary in Grande Bahia Principe El Portillo Dec 23-30, 2017

I send our two page review to our excellent agent TERESA. The review points out the positive and negative points. Please ask her for the information. There were issues with the groupings of our three families for flight , seat assignments to and from Samana; confusion due to bookings for William the Sunquest rep with transfer to the Resort as well as problems with room location at the Resort. Upon her return from holidays, Teresa did call the Resort to confirm our requests. We still do not u [... read more]nderstand the confusion was it due to the agent replacing Teresa, Sunquest agent or the people at the Resort. In spite of the challenges faced, we did enjoy the holiday at this Resort celebrating our 50th, our daughter's 20 and our son's 15th wedding anniversaries. El Portillo is a good family type resort.

This was our second stay at Christmas at this picturesque little resort. Beach is beautiful, seating areas are the nicest I’ve ever been to in over 30+ years of travel. Highly recommend to families. Staff was wonderful and always willing to take extra care !

Cayo Levantado Resort: Simply wonderfull

This exotic Island has a feeling of euphoria . The vegetation and beautiful beach was tranquil and very relaxing. I would return anytime. It is unfortunate that they are going back to a family resort. The entire place screams ADULTS and I see no way they can profit from this decision. We booked through Trip Central and were very happy with the experience. Like I said , I will return ...but only if Adult Only.

Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay: Amazing Vacation

I love this resort you can stay on the luxury side or take advantage of the large resort its combined with. Easy to get around with the taxi carts.Service was amazing and staff was very friendly. Resort was clean, tonns of activities and entertainment and the food was exceptional. We will more than likely return. The hotel was fabulous. Beautiful room, great view, excellent food and wonderful staff. Would recommend to a friend. The beach was small and not that great but the pool was awesome. Our only complaint was traveling with Air Canada. Our flight to Toronto was to leave at 2:30 in the afternoon. Shortly after arriving at the airport, we were told that our flight had been delayed 6 hours which ended up being closer to 8 hours. After waiting in line for about an hour and a half to check in, I [... read more] asked the Air Canada clerk if there were any flights leaving for Montreal, he said yes, I asked if there were available seats, he said yes, the flight left at 4:30 - just two hours after our original flight. I asked to be switched to the Montreal flight, he said he couldn't do that, I asked to speak to a supervisor, he pointed him out two booths down and asked us to step aside, he did not let the supervisor know we were waiting for him and thus his boss kept taking other clients. Our original clerk finally got the "Flight Supervisor" to speak with us and she told us they could not rebook us and we would have to phone the 1-800 number, we asked for the number and she said they did not have it. We could have been home at our regular time, however, as a result of this terrible service, we spend the night, from 2:30 a.m. on in the Toronto airport and arrived home 12 hours late. Our original flight was cancelled because a pilot had taken ill and they had to send to Toronto for another pilot. Air Canada is the worst run business I have ever encountered and neither myself, my husband or the couple we were traveling with will ever fly with them again!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Fantastic Resort

Loved the resort, food delicious,drinks flowed only one issue. Our building 29 must be close to the sewage treatment facility as the smell was so bad in one of the rooms we requested to be moved. It took 2 days for the move to happen and not sure if anything was resolved as the room appeared to be occupied the next day by new tourists. The facility is kept clean and comfortable and the staff couldn't be more kind. Would recommend this resort and look forward to going back!!

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: BAHIA PRINCIPE COBA

My husband and I traveled to this resort for a 4 day stay. It was a beautiful place. Well maintained. Clean. Not a worry about bed bugs or cockroaches, which I throughly inspect upon arrival. Staff were friendly and service was very good. Food quality was good also. Clean dining rooms and buffet area. Clean snack bar. Many a la carte restaurants to chose from. Resort was huge! You have to get around by trolly. They stop often at designated posts. The only hard thing was to get to the beach. You  [... read more]couldn’t walk there way too far. And a lot of the trolly cars didn’t go there you would have to wait for 5 to go by before one would take you there. Sometimes we waited half hour at the station. Once at the beach they had a beautiful buffet and beverage station that you could access. This was one of the most beautiful resorts I’ve seen. Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Average Resort with a Dolphin Prison

First I want to say if I knew this resort had a Dolphins on site in a small prison pool I would have never gone there. For that I will not recommend this resort. As for the other details. Overall I would say this is an average resort that doesn't have one thing that stands out. The beach wasn't bad. The pool was ok. But I would say the food was poor especially the vegetarian options. The size of the pool for Dolphins is smaller then the main pool for people. Release the Dolphins! Just for this I would not recommend this resort. Coba resort pool very far from the actual beach. Had to shuttle if you wanted to switch locations. A few rooms in our group had water leaking from the air conditioning. The vegetarian options at the buffet and a la carte were extremely limited. Keeping vegetarian and meat food and utensils separate was always an issue. Food was NEVER hot (in temperature). The food labels did not always match what was in the tray. Far from Playa Del Carmen (40 min drive - I already knew this) It was unclear on where the entertainment was always taking place. And the crew didn't go up and down the beach to notify people as they do in other resorts. The night show schedule changed frequently.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Wonderful Getaway!

The resort is beautiful! The rooms and balcony are a great size and very clean. I was scared at first because of all the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. I stayed at iberostar last time, and although I enjoyed it there too, this place was way better. The resort is massive, and we'll maintained overall. If you can't get over seeing a cracked tile and have the urge to give a bad review because of that, you shouldn't be going to a giant resort. We were never without a drink! The pool is much better down there, it's away from the entertainment area of the pool and there's decent music playing. We took wonderful pictures with the photography center, definitely worth it. This hotel is a great getaway and I would definitely go again! Take a private taxi and go to either sharkys or scotchys for dinner one night! There was tons of maintenance staff around ensuring the property was well maintained. I saw gardeners, painters, and everyone is very friendly. The cleaning staff were also very friendly, one day she didn't have towels to give us when she cleaned our room, so some were brought to us when they became available. Please tip the staff, an extra $100 total for your vacation will really make a big difference in your experience. They are not rude if you do not tip, but it's just like back home. It's all inclusive, but that's not inclusive of the service, so if you'd like that extra care, make sure you tip for it.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Truly Amazing Resort

We have been travelling to the Caribean for our winter vacations for the past 20 yrs and the Bahia Principe Bavaro is by far the best resort we have stayed at. It is an overall quality facility, comfortable suites, very clean, and beautifully landscaped, with a georgeous beach, several large pools and numerous eating areas serving excellent food. As seniors we took advantage of the transportation to and from all areas that was provided on a 5 min. daily schedule. Our Christmas and New Years 6 course dinners were truly amazing. The presentation and quality of food was excellent. Entertainment was different from other resorts as well. In a theatre style section we experienced a magic show, an overhead acrobatic performance, a rock singing night; etc; all superior acts. We just can,t say enough about this resort and we will definitely go back.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Good but not great.

This was our first experience at an all inclusive resort and we had seen several good reviews for this one. Our time at the resort was good but not enough for us to say we would definitely return. The beach was beautiful and the kids water park was fun for our kids. Most of the staff do not speak English so knowing a little Spanish helps. We found that tipping the staff did not make any difference in the level of service. The service was good at best, especially at the buffet and restaurants. [... read more] It seemed like they were understaffed at times and we waited a while to have water/coffee/wine/etc. served or refilled. There was a good variety in the food at the buffet and it was replenished quickly. The Italian and Mediterranean restaurants were very good, but the Brazilian one was a disappointment. This was the one with the best reviews so we picked it for a family celebration dinner. The service was terrible. Not enough servers so we waited a long time for food. They were however very prompt to bring us the bill for the champagne we ordered. All-in-all a good resort, almost great.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Wonderful Resort!

The Grand Bahia was the perfect Resort for our family. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with a lovely balcony. The food was delicious and the variety at the buffets was endless. We had an incredible waiter named Rishidi at our evening buffets. He had such a wonderful personality and was so accommodating with our family including an infant and child. The grounds were beautifully manicured and it was a pleasure walking around the resort. We dined at Don Pablo and the Steak Grill which were outstanding. We dined at the Japanese Restaurant, but we were somewhat disappointed with the meal. The lunch buffet by the water served amazing bbq chicken with jerk sauce. The evening entertainment for the kids was pretty good. The only suggestion I would make is that they light their hallways and staircases in the hotel. It was too dark and difficult to see. Overall I would rate this as a 4 out of 5 and would highly recommend for families.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Disgusting smell of sewer in the room when the air conditioning was on

There was a disgusting smell of sewer like poop coming from the air conditioning duct. We couldn't use the air conditioning. The washroom had no exhaust and smelled like poop all the time. We complained, the maintenance guy came to check the room and he said that he can't do anything. We paid $7,800 dollars for this vacation and we got the worst room ever. Many other people were complaining about their rooms. We will never go to another Bahia resort. This was our fifth time in Jamaica. The last  [... read more]four times in Jamaica we stayed at Riu and Iberostar resorts and the experience was great. Unfortunately, Grand Bahia Principe Jamaica was a waste of money. The food is very salty and the ingredients are cheap. There is no air conditioning at the buffet. They had no reservations available for restaurants so we don't know how was the food at the restaurants. The overall service is a 2 star because they don't have enough staff. The drinks are cheap and the entertainment is way too loud.
