We we fortunate enough to stay in a bungalow which was nice but my sister, her husband and two young kids we on a second floor we asked to see if they could be moved beside us, which was an upgrade they said they were over booked, so we said fine there were two rooms to the left of us that NO ONE was in all week! We knew because there was a joining door that was left open and we could walk in all week. ( I guess the hotel didn't want the extra money) and was happier saying no then trying to accom[... read more]modate.
Cons :The rooms in the buildings never really had hot water ,the staff didn't seem to care about the do not disturb sign as they woke up my sisters kids a couple times while napping by knocking on the door for water. Water was like gold there you could only have one bottle at a time even if you asked for one more bottle it was a no. Beer you could never get extra, 1 was all you would get. The food in the buffet was not great and one had 1 day of an added option. (To be expected in a buffet) but the ala carts were good but they only let you book two nights out the 7 nights. So you are in the buffet ALOT.
Pros :the pool and beach were nice but you are fighting for chairs. We watched at least three fights over chairs. The pool for kids was great! Was just never cleaned. The beach if you walked over to the left was gorgeous! You just needed to walk a minute over if that. Most of the staff were nice and the entertainment for kids was great and they were probably the only ones that didn't expect tip.the resort is small but nice everything was close to walk to.
Overall it was ok, to be honest none of us would go back, just based on the overall experience.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Amazing resort
This was our 3rd time at the Paradisus Princesa Del Mar, every stay has been amazing. The beach is beautiful, grounds & rooms are very well maintained. The service was excellent from Betty & ladies at the pool to the front lobby bar ladies, Sumi was a sweetheart (not sure if I spelled her name right) & the restaurants. they went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. One example was the buffet had not orange juice one morning, our waitress went out of her way to go find some so that we h[... read more]ad OJ with our breakfast.
We have met some amazing people who work at this resort and from year to year they always remember us.
Already looking forward to next year, won't hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Beautiful resort
This is a lovely resort. It was my fourth visit, the past two stays being in the Royal section. The grounds are lush gardens which are a delight to walk around.
The staff are amazing, always smiling and eager to assist.
This is an adult only resort that is ( especially in the Royal Section) very peaceful. The main pool is much busier and has more activities but if you are looking for a night life, dancing etc. this is probably not the place for you.
The food is good and has improved over t[... read more]he past four visits. I dined on lobster several evenings which was delightful and the icecream is always special.
We will certainly be returning to this piece of paradise

Melia Jardines del Rey: MIND BLOWING VACATION
This was mine and my husbands first trip anywhere and it was absolutely amazing. This resort is very big so lots of walking but very clean and beautiful. The beach was amazing the food was ok but from what I heard Cuba isn't known for its food. But it was good enough for me and I'm very picky.
We arrived about 4 hours before check In so our room wasn't ready but that's not there fault. The room was always cleaned and fridge restocked. My friend even asked for like 10 extra beer and they [... read more]gave him 14 so it was perfect.
Highly recommend this resort. Had a wonderful time for our first trip. We already planned while there to go away again next year. We have officially gotten the travel bug. And I'm so excited.

Hotel Vigia: Just like home!
Sol Cayo Guillermo is an older resort, tired in some areas, but clean and comfortable. The people make this resort,,warm, friendly and helpful. The food is standard Cuban fare, lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and desserts. It is a smaller , quieter resort...not party central. The beach has been widened and there is plenty of room for all. They need some more lounge chairs, you have to claim one early in the day. Marieta , the Air Transat rep was helpful and reliable. We have been to this resor[... read more]t 6 times and after renovations to the resort next year, we would go back again.

Hotel Vigia: Lovely Experience!
This resort has a lovely otherworld feeling ... the atmosphere was gracious and staff are kind & pleasant. The night time entertainment was 5 star for sure (except the disco ... terrible music & considering the age of the crowd rock 'n roll might b more suitable.) The two restaurants offer fine meals and a terrific atmosphere .... and the buffet was fine. The beach is spectacular & the beach staff work hard to clean it ... they start at 6am but I don't think guests tip them and treat them with [... read more]gifts as other staff ... if u r a tipper don't forget the beach guys! Melia Las Dunas: Great vacation :)
The Meila Las Dunas is a beautiful hotel with well kept grounds and lots of options for meals. The beach was gorgeous - although very windy while we were there. The beach chairs also fill up very quickly in the morning and although the resort says you are not allowed to save chairs - this isn't monitored. It was much easier to find chairs in the adult only section of the resort.
Our room was very clean when we first arrived, but as the week went on we found that house keeping wasn't doing as[... read more] good of a job. Even after we left little presents for them. We had a balcony which was nice to just sit and enjoy a drink before heading down for dinner or reading.
We were glad to find that we didn't need an adaptor at this resort to charge our phones.
WIFI is not great in the lobby and certain sites are blocked once you are connecting on their servers. I was not able to make a call out of the country with my cell phone, I was able to send a couple texts but that is about it.
One negative, the toilets... the plumbing isn't the best so you are not supposed to flush the toilet paper - gross yes but worse if the toilet gets clogged over it. We went to the disco that isn't on the resort but in the market next to it and the washrooms didn't provided toilet paper and a few times the water wasn't running so you couldn't flush the toilet or wash your hands. We brought our on toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
The restaurants have better food than I was expecting for all the negative reviews you read about the food. The pizza and sandwiches from the snack bars are great, fries are always good and they had these crispy shrimps at the beer garden which became a daily snack.
We went to 4 a la cart restaurants: The Seafood Restaurant was surprisingly delisious, the only place you didn't have to pay for lobster.
The Romantico was amazing, the beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection.
The Italian was a little disappointing, bland pasta to sum it up.
The Oriental was also really good.
The staff everywhere you went was amazing, very friendly and accommodating - language was sometimes a bit of an issues but to be expected.
The entertainment was different here than where I've been before, they didn't have a nightly show in the theatre but always provided some kind of entertainment in the evening, they had a rock band playing one night which I thought was pretty cool of them, a magic show, a typical dance show and then a theatrical show that they performed in different locations of the lobby.
Another negative was that we could not find pharmacy type items to buy, they do not sell Tylenol, Advil, Pepto, Bandaids, Aloe or Sunscreen - be sure to stock up on these items.
This is definitely a 4.5 star in Cuban standards and I would stay there again.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Great resort!
We stayed at this hotel during the week of March 19th and thoroughly enjoyed it. The rooms are outdated and are not fancy but they are very clean and all the staff are fabulous. A huge thank you to Daniel at the buffet who went out of his way to make us happy and made our last day at the resort a memorable one.

Sol Cayo Coco: Gem in the rough
The hotel is old but very clean, the staff was very good to resolve any issues. The first night our bed was very uncomfortable so they exchanged our mattress and the shower was very slow so they changed the shower head and all was good. The food at the hotel is very typical for Cuba but there was always something to eat, an egg is an egg wherever. They have a beautiful beach actually 2beaches, no problem for chairs at either. The pool has lots of chairs but if you want a hut earlier is best. The[... read more] weather was lovely. Not the Ritz but priced accordingly.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: maravillosas vacaciones en Cuba en Sol RÃo de Luna y Mares No Spanish required.
We loved it. And it really is all inclusive-nothing except whole lobster and specialty whisky has an extra cost . The beach is the most beautiful I have seen, with turquoise water (really), powder white sand, lots of shade areas and lots of sun to choose from. The beach is a long strip closed at each end with a rocky hilly spur going into the ocean, and shared by one other resort about a kilometer down. It is never crowded. Staff take you out on little sail boats, paddle boats are availabl[... read more]e, and more. The two bars on the beach are friendly, attendants are spaced every 150 meters to bring out beach loungers for guests, a towel exchange is handy, the water is soft and friendly. There are very friendly feral cats and kittens about in all hotel's extensive grounds, beautiful gardens, pitch and putt, pools, bars galore and lots of space. It is never crowded anywhere. The hotel itself has two centres, in Luna (our side) and Mares( our daughter's and her husbands). We both had stunning ocean views. Our room was on the top floor, airy, large, and comfortable. Only the extra pillows on the bed that weren't covered with a case were a bit strange-they seemed a bit too exposed for a bed. There are a few weird placements of plugs, some temperature changes in the shower water.... The food was really good. I was warned it was monotonous, and it wasn't at all. The buffet stations are plentiful, with freshly cooked chicken, beef, pork, seafood of all sorts to your taste. Pasta stations are delicious, and morning eggs-omelettes, poached, over easy are quick and yummy. There seemed a special changing station every evening, with Japanese Onigiri and tempura one night (yum), a roast pig another, a turkey another and so on. The fresh salads weren't as varied, but the fruit and juices were scrumptious. We loved the fried bananas flamed with rum. More yum. Small restaurants with servers are about-one close to the buffet area in Luna with a romantic sea view for breakfast, specialty ones to be booked (do it in the first few days ). We loved the Italian, and found the French mediocre. Perhaps the most outstanding features for me were the complete safety I felt in Cuba (this is in contrast to the unease I have sometimes felt in other countries) and the friendliness of the staff at the hotel and the people we encountered on our little outings . Staff remember your preferences for food and drink, clean the areas constantly (the hotel is spotless), and seem to like people. No tips are required or expected, though we left pesos for the room cleaner and our servers at meals and the odd bar drink, and many specialty coffees at the coffee bar. The coffee is, by the way, the best I have ever tasted.
There are lots of outings you can sign up for at the hotel, scooters you can rent, horse and buggy (or just horse rides) you can arrange. Money can be changed easily at the government bank station in the Luna side, the gift shops don't charge more than any other area we saw, and there is no persistent pressure to buy trinkets or wandering vendors. I like that a lot.
I will go again.

Melia Cayo Santa Maria: Awesome Resort!
The hotel itself is very nice. One of the better resorts I've stayed in in Cuba! The rooms were great, the grounds were very nice. The people there were amazing! Couldn't ask for better service. The beach was the best part, so beautiful. As well as the pools!
