Club Karey: Plain and simple

Everything was ok,especially the people. Soup was black bean soup everyday.Safe was broken. Public washrooms need attention,toilet paper and soap.toilet seats needed in public washrooms and doors.Same food everyday.No fish to eat.The price is right.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Not the four star hotel we were expecting.

The grounds were beautiful while the rooms were sadly neglected and badly in need of repair. Two of our three rooms had leaks. One bathroom door was very difficult to open/close. Our first room had a strong smell of mould! Some of the staff were very helpful while others were not. The buffet food was good while the Cuban and Italian restaurants were very poor. The Japanese restaurant was a treat as both the food and the service was wonderful and we all enjoyed our warm welcome by the staff. Unli [... read more]ke our reception in the Italian restaurants! This was a three family celebration and as the person who organized it I was very sorry that the hotel did not live up to my expectations. After paying $1600 for one person I felt very disappointed in the resort and recommendation of our travel agent.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: Great Resort

Been their 3 times & would go again. We've been to Cuba 7 times & this one is our favorite. The music is fantastic. Just don't fly with Sunwing. We did once but never again. The seats have about 6" less knee room than TransAt so we were pleased with TransAt. With Sunwing my knees are about 1" longer than the room in front. The resort rates more than a 5 star.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Not recommended

The grounds are very well kept and attractive. The beach offers a long stretch for walking. That's the good part. The staff spoke poor English. Generally the room were not serviced until 3 or 4 o'clock in the afternoon - the staff seem very slow. Food - while there is lots of choice the hot food was often cold - ie. a pan of french fries might be brought out and put on a hot plate but they were cold. Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Property needs upgrades

Just arrived I had requested a king size bed above floor non smoking. They give me a room with 3 double bed looked horrible went back at front desk to complain she said if I want something better I need to pay 40$ per day? I refused she give me a main floor with a king bed but the room is beat up and no place to put my clothes I guess I must leave them in my suitcase. This is only a few hours here and I want out of here I will contact my agency tomorrow morning and will meet my rep at 10:00 will [... read more] see the outcome. After the 3 room it was better however the grounds and rooms are in need of upgrade. As per the staff they are doing their best and meals are acceptable. This resort claim that they are a 5 star in my book they are not!

Hotel Villa Cuba: Great atmosphere

The resort was clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was pretty good as well. I have been to Cuba a couple times and I am happy with my experience at this resort. Only downfall was only 1 main pool and not as much entertainment as other places.

Playa Caleta: Amazing Vacation!!

Reading the reviews on this resort had me very very worried about my decision to book a vacation at it but all my worries were put to rest once I was there. We stayed in the Puntarena building and the first two floors are lobbies with varying levels of sitting areas, coffee bar, bar, disco, buffet, a la carte restaurant, wifi cafe and front desk. You have full access to both buildings and both resorts during your stay. Our room was dated but clean, and there was a/c in our room with our own temp [... read more]erature control. All of the staff are absolutely wonderful, very willing to help and generally happy. There were some issues with the elevators but there was always at least one that worked, so the inconvenience was minor and only consisted of waiting a little longer than usual. The beach is gorgeous, with lots of cabanas and beach chairs provided.

Melia Marina Varadero: Warm atmosphere

My husband and l chose this resort for my bday. Prior to getting there we sent an email with a special request in order to make our stay memorable. We were told at the front desk they will try to honour our request however the room we were given overlooked an area of the resort where there was this loud music blaring at 2am when we checked in! The food was not the best but you wont go hungry if you are not too picky. The cappuccino was excellent in the lobby! Very warm staff!

Resonance Blu Varadero: Cuban Retreat

This was our second trip to Cuba with the kids (11 & 9). Her are our thoughts: Room: * We were surprised by bunk beds, but they were great! Gave a small room a lot more space. * The room itself was in need of a little repair and love, but really it was only a place to change and sleep. The bed was horrible, lumpy and springs left me tired in the morning, but nothing a lazy morning poolside or at the beach couldn't fix. * We had trouble with the AC. The deck door had to be closed just so  [... read more]in order to activate the AC. It took us 3 days to realize it, and it was REALLY sensitive. I couldn't get it to work ever. Hubby had more luck. It'd get bumped, then we'd have to start again. Food: * The buffet was fine. The fish was amazing. Noone goes to Cuba expecting amazing food, but we were happy. * My daughter has Celiac. We brought our own bread, muffins and snacks for her. It was hard to get an answer as to whether food had wheat or not. We got by, she did ok on rice, chicken, veggies and fruit. * We didn't go to the a la cartes, but heard nothing but excellent reviews! Beach: * Beautiful. Always a beach chair. Nothing bad to say! Pools: * The girls loved the pools. We discovered the Quiet pool later in our stay, it was GREAT! No loud music, dancing, aerobics, or anything,,, just a huge pool with lots of seating. * The pools did get murky. Spilled drinks, plastic cups, etc. We saw them trying to clean it up, but seemed a lost cause. There was a dead bird one day. That was the last day we went in the activity pool. Ew. I mentioned it to staff, but it was a little kid was the one who took it out. Again, ew. * We never had problems with swapping out our towels for the pool or the beach. Staff: * We asked for help with the AC, and they sent someone over within 10 minutes at 9pm to help. * Rooms were always done up early. with fresh towels, the housekeeper was sweet. * All staff were friendly and ready to help. When I thought I'd lost my camera and had a near panic attack, the girl cleaning the floors and one lady selling at a little stall with postcards both came running to help. (I found it, thank goodness!!) * The Lobby Bar knew my coffee order every morning, and it was PERFECT! * Bartenders got to know our drinks, and always had a smile! Al in all a great value for the money.

Hotel Tuxpan: Be Live Tuxpan

This is our second trip to Tuxpan, the first one being 5 years ago. We loved the people then and still do , they are why people keep going back. We did see changes this time that made it both more appealing and also frustrating. The grounds are very well kept and the beach bar facility as well as the pools bars are much better. The elevator that wasn't working 5 years ago is still not working and it made me wonder why people kept going back when there is no effort to fix them. But the most distr [... read more]essing thing was the cooks.Alexis is the morning breakfast cook and he is nothing short of fabulous but the cooks at lunch and supper are in real need of training. The cooks at the grills DO NOT cook the food, they throw hamburgers , pork and fish on the grill, flip it and serve it. We took ours back and explained to them to press down the hamburger and leave it on long enough to cook...timed them from throwing on , flipping and serving.. 1.5 minutes. You can't even cook fish in that length or time. I wondered if anyone was going to ask how the service was. I am not trying to be rude but instead helpful, they need to be trained on the proper way to work food because people were taking it back or not taking it at all. We are not looking for a major or big elaborate resort, we like the size and the people and we feel you would be as good a five star if you simply took care to train and monitor your cooks. By the way, the outdoor BBQ's were the same.. throw it on 2 minutes, turn it over and throw it on a plate. Sol Palmeras: Excellent value! Fabulous service!

The mature grounds are beautiful to look at and very clean. The staff are knowledgeable and willing to provide great service. The entertainment is talented, but there is not enough of it. There is 24 hour alcohol,,but unfortunately there isn’t 24 hour food service which is more important.

Roc Barlovento: Amazing staff

The room we had was exactly as requested, ground floor with 2 beds. I must say it was adequate for our needs except for the bathroom. The bathtub was difficult to access as it was so high, the bottom of the tub was very slippery and there was no grab bar or anything to hold on to if you slipped. Also the spray shower head should be updated and the towels were very small. There was a lot of storage which was certainly appreciated. That being said, I have to comment on the wonderful staff  [... read more]there from the lobby bar, to the buffet (especially Iris), the wonderful girl responsible for the games and bingo, the bar and barbeque staff, the cleaning staff and the doctor I had to visit. I felt safe and very welcome here and Roc Barlovento should be very proud of their hotel and staff.

Starfish Jibacoa: Simple with the best staff

The grounds are kept immaculate, and all staff at the resort do their best with the limited resources they have. This is not party central, but more a quiet, relaxing resort with wonderful snorkeling, and is located ideally half way between varadero and Havana. The rooms are dated, but cleaned daily, and the food is simple fare, but with a realistic expectation of a 3 star in cuba, you will never go hungry. The Spanish Coffee is their signature drink and is to die for

Grand Memories Varadero: so so

Hotel was " dated" rooms were very poor, need up grading. Service in general was poor, some of the employees were actually rude which I have never found in Cuba before. Main eating area was below average. entertainment was good, lots of seats. Washroom in one bar had no toilet paper Beach was nice but too congested , Sanctuary area did not look any better. Been to Cuba now 6 times, this was my least favourite. Exchange bank although had extended hours was very poor , never en [... read more]ough change so we could use for tips.Many people complained about this, and very slow.

Muthu Playa Varadero: Terrific Resort

Had an amazing time last week. Took my wife and 10 year old grand daughter here and really enjoyed ourselves. The beach was beautiful as was the resort. It was clean and well maintained. Staff are so friendly and helpful . Bartenders are generous with the drinks and most staff speak English quite well.The pools were well kept as well were the grounds.Entertainment was available evenings with local bands in lobby area and excellent shows on main stage nightly. Food was good for Cuban with the hi [... read more]gh points for the breads and pastries and typical for beef or pork. Lots of variety with food also available at 24 hour snack bar and beach bar. The resort is not that large so everything is close and intimate. Always found chairs and shade at beach or pool. The best thing here are the wonderful staff. Hope to return soon.

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Chill Vacation

We stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of March 2019. The hotel and the grounds are beautiful. The rooms are a good size and the king beds were very comfortable. The food was so-so although we always found something to eat at the buffet. The restaurant closest to the beach was our least favourite (food not very good and staff were not the most attentive), the other restaurants were ok but by far we found the Japanese the to be best food and staff. The beach was great and although busy  [... read more]at times we always found a spot to sunbathe. It was windy for a few days and that brought the jelly fish up on the beach so you did have to watch sometimes where you placed your foot when you were close to the water. The biggest let down we found for the hotel was the lobby bar which was understaffed and the staff at times were either inattentive or just did not want to serve you. Never stayed at an all inclusive that you had to stand in a long line up to wait to be served and then when you were served invaribly you were not given what you asked for (example would be asking for a rum & coke with dark rum and been given a rum & coke (with white rum) and a dark rum chaser or asking for 4 beers and getting 4 fantas. The waiters/waitresses would clear the tables but rarely asked if you wanted another drink. Overall it was a decent hotel and we enjoyed our vacation they just need to work on somethings to bring the hotel up to par with some of the other hotels in Varadero

Paradisus Varadero: Great Resort

Room was great nice location next to pool and 24 hour pool bar which had amazing chicken wings and excellent ice cream. Food in buffet could have alittle better selection and hot items were not too hot. Resturants we ok and the beach buffet was very nice with a good choice of barbque items. Beach and pool area had lots of palm trees and plenty of chairs. All in all we had a very pleasent vacation.

The good: - beach is beautiful - food in the main buffet restaurant was good; relatively good selection as well. - bottles of water, beer, etc., in the room fridge at no extra charge (with refills when needed) - the room maid was very nice and helpful - very good and helpful Sunwing representative in the hotel by the name of German - main evening shows were nice - good drinks in the main lobby bar - good food in the a la carte restaurants, good live music there as well  [... read more] - hotel is conveniently located close to the town of Varadero The bad: - the room was in disastrous condition; so many things broken: balcony door, AC control, closet door, falling off drawer front, falling off handle of another drawer, broken lamps, missing bulbs, completely broken alarm clock, damaged bathtub, TV did not working initially (the maid helped getting it fixed), closet hangers falling down, broken off makeup mirror, and so on... - lots of noise from the numerous "overly exited" guests, including at 4:00 am. - lots of smoking guests; smoking in the lobby and other places regardless whether smoking was permitted or not; the hotel stuff would not react to smoking in smoke-free areas. - lots of noise from cars, buses and tracks passing on the main road in the front of the hotel. - most (with a few exceptions) of the stuff appeared to be on an auto-pilot; very few smiles. Definitely the worst was the main reception service. On our last day we asked for the (promised to us a number of times) courtesy room to have a shower. In response we got a classical treatment combining everything between pretending that they did not understand us to telling us that there is nothing that they could do. It took them 30 minutes to get us 3 towels and telling us to use the falling apart showers in a gym with no lights and water flowing through everything but the shower head. Rodney, in the reception, was especially useless to the point where he would encourage me to write a negative review about his service... Rodney could not care less... :-( - evening live band would play for only a few minutes in the indoor venue used for evening shows, etc. The music was so painfully laud that you would not hear yourself. It was impossible to stay in the room when the band played. It looked as if it were done by design... blast the people out of the room and then quit as there would be no one to play for... When I got there there were only two people there: me and the barman. I run away from the noise and felt bad for the barman who had to stay in the bar... Too bad as we like a lot to listen and dance to Latin music and the band appeared to be good. - during times when the main restaurant was closed your only other food option were hamburgers and some cold salads that I was afraid to try. - sewage like smell in the main lobby for a couple of days.

Playa Caleta: Gran caribe Puntarenas playa caleta

Building needs full renovation. Bedrooms, comun areas, buffet, washrooms,etc. Outside resort minor repairs. Food at the buffet, cutrely and glasses should be covered to protect it from fliers. Make sure supplies exist all the time.

Palma Real: If the price is right

We arrived late at night and our room had no lights. We were told there were no rooms available until the next day and to come back then at 2pm. When we did it took nearly 1.5 hours to straighten everything out. Slightly frustrating at the time. Once that minor inconvenience was taken care of, I had no significant complaints for the rest of the week. The bartender Tactica at the pool bar is adorable and super friendly! The food is kind of "stereotypical" of what you hear about Cuba but by no means did we starve for the week. The location was great. Very close to downtown bars, restaurants and markets and the beach was very nice. If you want extravagance this is not the place for you. If you want a decent enough room, a good beach to swim, to walk outside the resort, cold drinks and nice people - you'll do just fine. High maintenance folks will likely not be happy.
