Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Great value for money

Beautiful hotel. Well maintained. Buffet food was good. A la carte restaurants were disgusting. Bars don't stay open late enough and not well located with respect to large pool. There weren't enough chairs at all. Great daily and nightly entertainment. Great location in the middle of the city.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Not a 4-Star Resort

They said the rooms were renovated, so you would think new fixtures, tubs, tiles furniture etc. But no. The only thing that was renovated was that a hole was made between rooms to make 2 rooms into a suite. Big gap under one of the doors let in a few critters. Salamanders we didn't mind, but the big hug bug that leaped out of the dresser drawer (looked like a cockroach) freaked us out! The food, some good, some bad. Had the leaf salads, not a good idea. Not washed with the bottled water, we all  [... read more]got sick. Once the inspectors had done their inspection, food and cleanliness went out the door! The service, was not top notch, nor 4-star. We did find the one guy in the buffet, Eddy, always happy and smiling and quick with service, he was great! The rest, even if you left a tip, you still didn't get good service. The cleaning ladies we had in our room were ok. But still didn't receive face clothes like we asked time and time again. Our room ceiling leaked, no help there either. Kept saying we will send someone. Never happened. The adult entertainment and children's entertainment was good. Loved Rosa! She was awesome with the kids! The beach was ok , not much seaweed, and that's good. The pool never looked like it was cleaned. Always had sand in it, even first thing in the morning. For the money, we rate it a 3-star.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Amazing people and resort

When we go on holidays we never go back to a place twice as there are so many out there we want to experience, BUT this one we will return to! Being adult only is the first plus and not too big a resort is good too. It was very clean all the time and if there was anything mechanical that went wrong, they were there almost immediately. It would have been nice to have crispy bacon, some shrimp and some pickles. The food at the a la cartes were very good! The beach, beds, staff and animation team were all great! The only thing we didn't like were the lounges by the pool, THEY were dangerous and uncomfortable. I saw many people topple over if they happened to sit on the end of the lounge. So sit carefully and in the middle, never on the end. All in all we had a GREAT holiday!

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Amazing resort

Food was amazing, Japanese, Mexican and Brazilian... Yummy! beach was beautiful. The entertainers work so hard and did a great job. Popeye, chocolate were awesome! The room were perfect, nice and clean and great view of the pool. Drinks were delicious! We would go back anytime!

Sunscape Puerto Plata: rundown

resort staff was rude food was bland rooms were rundown in my opinion far too many stairs for handicapped guests as all food was up or down stairs including buffet which had groundfloor access but was always locked even when requested to use locals run the place on weekends

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Excellent in everyway

Very clean rooms, nice location, beach cleaned everyday, great staff, Compact setup so you were close to everything, lots of space for relaxing in shade or sun, great activities, buffet different every night, Beach area cleanest I have seen in Puerta Plata

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Amazing Resort !!!!!

I travelled to this resort from Jan16-23 2015 Such Beautiful well groomed grounds. The entertainment staff were excellent always keeping you engaged. The Michael Jackson show and the Circus acrobatic show are the best. The food was always fresh and plenty to find to eat, the al la cartes were very delicious especially the Takara ( Asian ) The rooms are all renovated and the cleaning staff are very friendly. Only one thing to watch out for the sand fleas on the beach.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Enjoyed this resort

Intimate, well laid out, clean resort. The rooms are nothing special but had lots of hot water and great water pressure. The food is very good and the staff and entertainment are top notch. The grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. Loved the swim up bar pool. The vendors on the beach are annoying and the water a little dirty at the shoreline.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Good resort

The resort was beautiful and extremely clean. The room were very clean but could use some updating. The entertainment staff were great but the entertainment could be better. I found that after the evening show, there was nothing else to do on the resort. The food was good but there were periods of time during the day between meal times where no food was available. Also, you couldn't take food to the beach or by the pool. If you wanted to eat you had to go into the buffet restaurant or the Oceal  [... read more]grill. This was my first all inclusive so I don't have any other resort experience to compare it to but I enjoyed it and would definitely go back.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: beautiful location

Just returned from trip Jan 15 th to 23 2015. I have been to a variety of Cuban locations and this was my second trip to DR, first trip was to La Romana. I found combination of beach and reef shoreline a beautiful contrast visually. Always a spot in the shade when needed up on the reef. No other place like it. The Surf rolls in with waves that are great fun for all to play in, or watch as others attempt to body surf. Staff work hard to please and always amiable. It appears the Casa is two resorts put together as one, no problem gives the resort a large footprint. Howevver the beach portion of rooms are a bit farther from ammenities, but possibly quieter. I paid the extra for a "superior ocean view" room which got me on the ground floor facing pool side and ocean view patio door opens on to our own deck, very handy was 200.00 extra. would be perhaps in the reef section. While very handy for teens, but very close to pool as well, toddlers not so great. These rooms can be facing pool activities, people and staff with trolleys going past your window, some would consider this a bit noisy. The Garden view rooms would not be for me, as some garden rooms simply face the next block of rooms with 100 foot grass and vegetation strips in between, but you do have a patio or balcony. .The room blocks are 4 stories high the stairs could be an issue if elderly or carrying toddlers back and forth. There are ways to request a certain type of room ask your travel agent. we went in high season the resort was full, but never a line up a meal time or excessive at the bars. If you stomach is sensitive walk into town and buy a supply of bottled water, this goes for any island resort, not just Sousua. Overall the trip was fun, if your 4 or more look into renting a car for the day and exploring on your own, flew on Sunwing they were great too.

We had a few issues with the room, but it was resolved and they were apologetic. However, my husband gave a ticket for a towel, to my sister, and the front desk manager was extremely rude to him and threatened him with a $25 fine. He should not be in the hospitality industry. However, the entertainment staff were wonderful and worked very hard to entertain us.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Better than expected

Very well maintained resort with nice friendly staff that were very accommodating. Rooms were clean and spacious as was the main pool. The beach was large and easily accessible yes there were lots of people selling stuff but all you have to do is say no and they go away. No big deal. The only thing I didn't like was the dress code for some of the alacarte restaurants no one wants to wear pants in +30 weather you can still look good in a collared shirt and dress shorts.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Great beach!

Our family of 8 vacationed at the Blue Bay last week. This resort was pretty nice. Its not a large resort so everything was pretty close to walk to. The resort is clean, the grounds are beautiful and well kept. The people who work here are very nice and always smiling! My parents were given a room on the third floor which was difficult for them to climb. Not a problem when we asked to have them moved. They managed to keep them in our same building and put them on the first floor the very next da [... read more]y. We were in building 5. The rooms are nothing fancy but our maid did a great job and the room was kept clean. The food was good. We always were able to get a bit of variety. Same with the A-la-cart dinners. The buffet wasn't huge but appropriate for the size of the resort. Usually the bigger the resort the bigger the buffet. The pool wasn't large but it was clean and has a swim up bar. The beach was excellent for taking long walks if you want some exercise. You can walk for hours and it was easy to walk on. The water wasn't clear due to the waves but it's a nice sand bottom and not rocky. The only real negative we encountered were the peddlers on the resort's beach area. They constantly bother you to buy, braid, massage etc. All day long. We had one guy put down his wares and take a nap right behind our chairs! This is all within 30 feet of the resort. My sisters and I think the resort must take a cut because although there is security at the beach, they don't seem to care how many peddlers there are or how often they bother you. It's very annoying and frustrating when you are relaxing, reading or having a conversation. I don't mind them doing their job but maybe the hotel should consider giving them a certain area to sell from and guests can choose to approach them instead. We never had a problem getting chairs or clean towels. We found if you go exchange them around 4 pm they were just delivered. I've been to the Dominican 6 times now. Every time a different resort and location. This wasn't my favourite but we did have a good time. The best part was that it was Adult Only and that was a big reason for choosing this resort! Our kids are all grown up and we thoroughly enjoyed not having the young ones around or the parents that don't keep any control, discipline or manners when taking their children on holidays!

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Met amazing new friends in the hot sun!

We came back from our stay at Cofresi on Thursday and had a great week. The weather was perfect, staff was friendly, and the VIP party on Sunday was a huge highlight! Looking forward to coming back to stay in a villa!

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Loved staying at Gran Ventana

Great layout, loved both pools with lots of seating. The beach was clean & had enough shade & sun, lots of seating. Lots of good food at the buffet. Can't really comment on the evening entertainment but we did have a few night swims in the Beata pool. The 3000 building was pretty quite with very nice rooms.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Vacation

My daughter and I spent one week at the Be Live Collection Marien in Puerto Plata and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would rate this resort just under 5 stars probably a 4 1/2. I will review our holiday according to the following categories: 1. Flight: We flew with Canjet Airlines and overall we had a good flight. The only negative factor is that we flew to Punta Cana where some passengers departed and others boarded. We then flew to Puerto Plata which overall meant we arrived later than we [... read more] thought we would. Originally when we booked the flight it was to be a direct flight to Puerto Plata but Canjet changed the itinerary later. I can see their point since the plane was always half full and there probably was not enough for two direct flights to Punta Cana and Puerto Plata. 2. Room: We had a standard room with two double beds and a terrace view. The room had a mini bar, coffee maker, TV, shower and tub and A/C. The mini bar had a bottle of water, two cans of beer and two bottles of pop. After tipping the maid $5 she kept the mini bar well stocked throughout the week. The building we stayed in was next to the lobby and close to the pool. All of the buildings are well situated throughout the resort. It took us less than 5 minutes to walk anywhere in the resort. 3. Grounds: Exceptional. The outdoor landscaping was beautiful; very tropical. The whole resort was kept in excellent condition and was spotlessly clean. 4. Pool - A large pool divided into sections. Its not too deep which is nice. Lots of people around the pool each day and it was hard to find a palapa or chair if you waited too long in the morning. People would leave their towels on their chairs to make sure no one could take it. A sign pointed out this was not allowed but it wasn't enforced. We decided not to sit at the pool until late afternoon when it wasn't as busy and we had no problem finding a shady spot. 5. Beach - Very wide with no seaweed in front of our resort. My daughter and I walked a long way down the beach past some other resorts and I have to say the best beach area is in front of this resort. We usually had no problem finding a beach chair in the shade since we both don't like to sit in the direct sun for too long. There are beach vendors that will come up to you and try to get you to buy something. They will persist but a firm and polite "no thank you" is all that's needed. 6. Food: There is one buffet restaurant and three al a carte's. You have to make a reservation for the al a carte's. The Brazilian was my favourite. They will bring you long skewers of steak, chicken, pork etc and you can have as much as you want. The Mexican was very good as well. The Gourmet was nice and formal and the food is good there too. We ate breakfast and dinner as well at the Buffet and they offer a wide selection. I missed my Canadian bacon though for breakfast. They only served it one morning. Overall I would rate the food at this resort as very good. 7. Service: Staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs. You can tell that they work hard and take their jobs seriously. No problem conversing in English. 8. Weather: We were there from January 9th to 16th. The first three days it rained periodically throughout the day and the sun would come out for awhile and then it would rain again. After that for the last four days it was fantastic weather; beautiful and sunny all day with a nice breeze. Evenings were very comfortable. 9. Excursions: There are a number of excursions you can book at the resort. My daughter and I took the catamaran ride which provided a lunch and drinks while sailing along the coast. It makes a couple of stops where you can snorkel in the reefs and view the tropical fish. Also we took the tour of the city of Puerto Plata. They take you up a lift to the top of the 2nd highest mountain in the Dominican. You will have some breathtaking views of the city and the coast. You will also visit the rum factory (we bought some rum and it was incredibly inexpensive). You will also visit the Amber Museum and the old fort that used to guard the city as well as be able to do some shopping. We really had a wonderful vacation here. Would I go back to Puerto Plata? Yes. Would I choose another resort? Not very likely. This was a beautiful resort and I would return there for sure if I could.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Beautiful and friendly resort, very clean

Our first time at this resort and found it very clean in our room, public areas all eating areas. Wonderful friendly, helpful staff. We were a bit disappointed in the entertainment, except for the Dancers they were amazing, so was the activities around the pool.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Wonderful place, great valued holiday.

Loved the room plenty of storage, very clean wonderful maid service. Large pool, great for families. Loads of chairs at pool and beach. service at the bar wonderful, not cheap when it comes to pouring drinks. Very friendly staff, at the bars and restaurant, and service desk. I would go back there in a minute. Loved it.

Hotel is ok, our room is clean, right place to relax and unwind. You don't get bored, a lot of things to do. A lot of the staff don't speak English but they are so friendly. It is a 24 hour snack bar i like it..

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Large Resort

Too Large lots of walking to beach, pools, room, meals. Food is good, lots to choose from. Drinks are good so is the service. Did not have to wait too long for shuttels. We had a standard room which was kept clean a little out dated. Over all we enjoyed our stay.
