Grand Riviera Princess: Big Resort :)
The hotel/ resort was very large in size and I did enjoy that. There were so many different pools and amenities that you could really go anywhere on the resort and do anything. I found the rooms to be clean and proper. We lost power in the room for 3 hours one of the days and there was zero water for a few hours the other morning. There was plenty of buffets and à la carte restaurants to choose from so there is no shortage of food or drinks. There were shows each night in the lobby that were co[... read more]ol for all ages. This place had a good gym set up with plenty of equipment in good working condition. I had a chance to get a massage and that was great too. Everything seemed very clean and the staff was always working hard for everyone. With the new smoking laws in Mexico they have created “smoking areas†in the resorts for those to have cigarettes or enjoy a cigar. That “area†is just a patch of gravel with an ashtray + sign. Waiting in lines for food or drinks was not bad at all and the quality was great. There was a foam party on the beach and it was a blast for everyone. The disco on the resort was a nice one and well air conditioned. There was plenty of seaweed along the shore but that can’t be held against them, that’s the entire coast. I will say that the hotel was going to amazing lengths to remove it so that’s great! I would definitely recommend this hotel but I would caution those who may have distance issues but let me not leave out the fact! That they have golf cart shuttles everywhere and elevators if needed. One complaint I have is that the staff to seem to have a 5 second rule (not sure) where if they knock and you don’t make it in time or respond fast enough they just let themselves in the room. This happened 3 times while I stayed there. Once was for spraying for insects (which obviously was working because I saw none in the rooms) and the other were hotel staff at the wrong rooms. This did not diminish the vacation. Great place, fun time and I would go back.
The staff are great, the a la cartes fabulous. Reduced buffet due to renos - not nearly as good as past visits. The room was in a state of disrepair, lights not working ripped door screen, etc. Renos are underway, but basics should still be kept up in the meantime. Booked 6 months ahead, but we were not told of renos until shortly before departure. All bars ran out of tequila, only cheap no-name white tequila was available, or sometimes no tequila at all. No tequila in Mexico? Ran out of other [... read more]liquors as well. Groundskeeping and cleanliness were good. Have been going to Bahia Akumal since 2002, but we were disappointed this time

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: Bahia coba
The resort is fairly large but easy to navigate...staff were exceptional...pool layouts made it somewhat difficult to find shaded areas.....access to beach was by trolly but only 5 min trip...buffet and ala cartes were really good ...all in all our experience went well ...only change we would like to see is quicker trolley times as some waits were almost 20 mins

Loved the resort. Very big. Only downfall was the main Buffet building was under renovations. It’s a pain having to take the trolley to Tulum or Coba for grand buffet meals. Stayed in the adults only section. The beach there is small and every day the workers spent hours cleaning up the seaweed.

Catalonia Royal Tulum: Interesting Hotel
this hotel is built around and to some extent, over, a cenote, of which there are lots in the area [we particularly recommend cenote minotaur], though swimming in this one is not permitted. the a la carte restaurants are situated between the hotel lobby and the cenote, one on the banks of it. beyond them and over the bridge the road is a model of a mayan highway, with neatly arranged limestone slabs. off this to either side are the rooms, hidden by the preserved jungle [with wildlife], ensuring [... read more]privacy. it's quite a step then to the mangrove swamp, crossed by a wooden walkway, until you reach solid ground at the pool area. here you have the buffet restaurant [breakfast and lunch only] with friendly staff [kudos to Quetzabel] on the other side of the pool are other facilities including a good bar for espresso coffee before 10 a.m. [after that time they are allowed to serve booze as well]. directly beyond the pool is the beach area - plenty of seating under coconut palms before the beach proper and the sea.
food was generally good, but evening entertainment did not impress.

Grand Sirenis Riviera Maya: Perfect resort
This resort has everything you need, from amazing coffee, great food, spaced out pool areas with lots of shade to good shows and large rooms! We were so impressed with this resort and can’t wait to rebook. The only downfall was the rooms were on a programmed temperature so it was always too warm. We wish we would have be able to adjust it to the temperature we would have liked.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Okay, not great
The staff at the resort were fantastic, especially Benjamin in the Italian restaurant and Elias the concierge at Bonampak. We enjoyed the quiet pool as opposed to the main pool. The seaweed smell at the beach was unbearable. The food was mediocre including the a La carte restaurants. No fans or air conditioning in most of them. Black and white bar did not have snacks past dinner time. The room was clean and had the amenities you would expect. It was very noisy throughout the night even though th[... read more]e pools were supposed to close at 7pm, people were partying loudly outside all night. For some reason dogs were allowed on the resort and one person brought their dog into the pool (the staff asked them to leave the pool) . Time share salespeople bombard you as soon as you arrive

Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres: So much fun!
Hotel is great I’m not a review writer but I’ll say that the food was amazing - the service was amazing - the drinks were the best I’ve ever had at any resort - go see Kenny at the Tiki bar he runs the bar like a speakeasy it’s super quaint he loves making great drinks! The tiki bar needs a tv so you don’t have to go inside to watch a sports game that’s my only complaint

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Family friendly resort
Great beach location. We had an oceanfront room, which was well worth the upgrade. Friendly staff, and the facilities and grounds were well kept.
Horseback riding available all day on the beach, which was enjoyed by many.
Take your pick with a choice of massages all along the beach.
Borrow a bike for a quick ride into town. The 15 minute walk was also enjoyable for fresh oysters and ceviche.
All in all this is a nice family resort.

Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Great accessibility for reduced mobility
We just had a wonderful week at the privilege section of ocean coral turquesa puerto Morelos. We were traveling with our 93yr old mother in a wheelchair and it was an exceptional spot. Wheelchair accessible rooms and restaurants; a beautiful walkway along the beach and down to the beach chairs. All the staff in the privilege section were the most friendly and caring we have ever had in a resort. Special shout-out to the breakfast staff at the privilege restaurant and in particular Angel, who mad[... read more]e my mom’s birthday so special; Fermin who saved us from the only bad staff member we came across in the 7 days we were there; Yazmin and Susana “la jefas†that made sure we had everything we needed; and Chef Socorro that cooked the most delicious steak and octopus we’ve had in a long time. Privilege is worth every penny don’t hesitate to take it.
Pros, all the staff, the service, accessibility for reduced mobility, and the wonderful butler service (fantastic Alberto) who looked after us as if we were queens.
Cons most of the a la carte restaurants are not as good as the Privilege restaurant and the buffet was very very ordinary, the menus in the privilege section did not have not enough variety for 7 days, the privilege pool bar and beach drink service was just plain terrible (only came by twice a day at the beach, took for ever to get the drinks, the drinks are really inconsistent and watered down, always made with cheap liquor, premium bottles are refilled with the cheap stuff - we witnessed this first hand). If you want a well made drink with quality liquor bring your own mug to the privilege restaurant or the lobby bar. Last of the cons is the air transat hotel rep. He was the most condescending arrogant person we have run into in a long time (his first name is Hannibal). He outright refused to give us information unless we sat down and listened to his sale pitch and kept cutting us off to say « no no no ». He kept saying that if we didn’t hear his full pitch we would give him a bad review for not giving us all the info… and here we are. The best part about this hotel is their employees. They made the whole trip!

Barcelo Gran Faro Los Cabos: Good hotel but where was the Premium??
We booked the most expensive room thinking we would have a nice balcony with a good sea view where we could lounge, read and tan (as we have experienced at similarly priced hotels) . Our room was the furthest from the sea with a view of the garden and pools. The balcony was small with two hardbacked dining style chairs and a small drinks table. The balcony of the floor above kept the balcony mostly in shade. We spent little time on the balcony as it was uncomfortable.
We understood that there w[... read more]ere four restaurants that one could book any evening for dinner. There were only two restaurants, a sushi "restaurant" (we were advised by another guest it was poor quality and personally I rate sushi fast food not restaurant food) and the main dining room which was a very good buffet but certainly not restaurant quality. The remaining two "restaurants" located side by side were open on alternate nights and shared the same staff. Neither was great (screw top low quality wine, dishes served resembled the menu name (particularly the Italian food). We ate at the restaurants a few times but were frustrated with having to line up each afternoon to book for that evening, we were advised by reception, upon arrival, to book early as the available restaurant space ran out early. We used restaurants outside the hotel at additional cost and bother.
Our room was very nice and well serviced however the air conditioning had a minimum setting of 18C, we generally sleep at a lower temperature so we had to keep the ceiling fan running and put up with the noise.
The bathroom had wardrobe style doors facing onto the main room which reduced privacy and did not limit noise at all.
I do not recommend spending the extra money for a premium room.

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun: Clean and Modern Resort with something for Everyone!
Overall, The Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun was wonderful. This resort is much bigger than what we typically book, however we had two teenagers with us, and we wanted to make sure there was plenty for them to do, and there sure was!! There are so many different things to do here that I don't think anyone gets a chance to do it all. While we were there, we used the lazy river and water slides, the scuba center, all the pools, the gym (which was amazing), the poolside games and activities (ping po[... read more]ng, Jenga, volleyball, water polo). We also went bowling twice and did the trampoline park. we did swim in the ocean, and although there was some seaweed on shore the ocean floor was sandy and soft and the water warm! We walked a long way down the beach, and I will say that this resort was doing by far the best on maintaining the seaweed cleanup. There was always something fun to do! For Dinner and Lunch we ate at the following restaurants (listed best to worst): Rio, Zen, Hunter Steakhouse, Smoke, Nibbles, Grazie, The Cave. The Cave was the only one that we really didn't enjoy- but I would say all of the food is great by all-inclusive standards, but nothing spectacular compared to our own cooking or restaurants at home. What we did love was the variety- which was much better than any other resort we have ever been to. The Buffet has an amazing selection of fresh foods, and the kids liked it the best! The cafe had wonderful coffee and pastries in the morning (but unfortunately, a pretty long line up). The coffee here was much better than at the buffet. we are early risers, so we joined the club of saving 2 or 3 loungers (for 4 of us) before 6AM each day. We did notice that you could always find a lounger or two, just maybe not in your preferred location. getting up early just ensured we picked our favorite spot. Another thing we did like about this resort is the layout. The resort is huge- but the layout makes almost everything convenient no matter your location. I don;t have much to complain about but the 2 things that put a bad taste in our mouth were 1) The wrist bands DO NOT stay on, our teenagers both lost one and had to pay $130 CAD to replace them. This is crazy, if you are going to use this system then get wrist bands that stay on while kids are doing the activities that your resort provides! we did end up melting the band strings which helped, but we had to continue to resecure them throughout the week. 2) The room layout with the see through glass shower and open concept bathroom was not ideal for us, our teenaged son and his friend. There was no privacy- I had to get dressed in the toilet room, and luckily after reading reviews I had brought a plastic shower curtain from home which we used to provide privacy for the shower. All in all, this is a great family resort that felt safe and secure and had fantastic service- I would highly recommend for families with older pre-teens or teenagers!

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Not expected
As a frequent visitor of Bahia Principe Akumal, I was surprised to see the decline in the villas (housekeeping, repairs, etc.) but I guess that would be attributed to the on-going renovations. I unfortunately was not prepared for this scenario. Several days I had to call for towels, bath gel, hand soap and tissues. As for the pool areas, it was equally disappointing as most of the umbrellas were broken or some other style very difficult to assemble, in any case there were not enough to go arou[... read more]nd, my husband and I took a lunch break only to return without an umbrella, someone had taken it off our stand. Las Palmas by the Sea: Great resort
The staff were all extremely friendly and happy. They went out of their way to remember names and make sure they greeted you with smiles. The food was good and no line ups. The weather was fantastic. The beach and pool areas were always cleaned as well as the hotel lobby and bathrooms
